They really should call this little Art Store by the Sea the "Hodge-Podge-Garage Art Lodge!!!" It is a splendid little mess inside that store! Once you step inside, you will see an assortment of high-end paint knives, and paint brushes, then a wall of highly pigmented, high-end, high priced paints! Oils, acrylics, watercolors - oh my! They carry the best brands!!!! (Call the bank and take out a loan!) I had to buy an Ampersand 16 X 20 " flat gesso board today, and none of the other art stores carry this brand because it is very high-end. One friendly and helpful lady helped to locate the proper canvas for my art class that I'm taking, and they give art students 20% off. Just be sure to tell them you are an art student. I wandered around the store for a long time- ( mortals fall into a deep spell while shopping in this artsy-fartsy place) - and I found unexpected items strewn all over the place. (Is this where the Muse hangs out? I hear this is her secret hiding place!) It made me smile! If you are in need of a purse, or a fashionable necklace to bring to your art class, they have it here. Do you need a painting apron? They have many to choose from. If you need to brew a pot of tea, they have teapots. Do you need to store magic seeds in glass jars? They have a bevy of jars! No two are the same! If tonight is bowling night, they even have a bowling ball in there for you! (not joking!) If you need baskets, they have baskets. If you are in need of an easel, canvases, clay, embroidery thread, pencils, markers and framing - Laguna Art Supply has it all! Does your street need a new stop sign at the corner? They even have a stop sign in that store for sale! It's a kick and a giggle to shop there! Their prices are not low. So bring your piggy bank, and break the bank! This is a fun place to shop. They have the hard-to-find-art-supplies that Michael's and Hobby Lobby don't stock. I love Michael's and Hobby Lobby too, don't get me wrong. They totally ROCK! But for a fun time, drive into Laguna Village, pay the meter and shop until you drop at Laguna Art Supply!!! Peace/LOVE/Art! X O X O X O

My market paper had maggots in it. Four maggots. When I buy paper I don't want bugs in it....

A funky, well stocked little shop that largely caters to students from the local college. The staff was helpful and very nice.

The artist actually lives upstairs and actively paints and sells work downstairs. The space is always open during Laguna Beach Art Walk (first Thursday of each month) which is when I first discovered it. Michael Phillips is truly an Idiot Jenius just like his business card says. Michael is very approachable and happy to talk about his art. His paintings are hand drawn and painted, without the use of computer design aides, so his work is really unique. The best part is that each painting has a secret message! The paintings tell stories and usually have some social relevance. One of my favorites is Michael's take on a famous Norman Rockwell painting called "New Kids in the Neighborhood" that was about racism in the 1950's. The Durden version, "Moving Stars," has Starwars kids meeting up with Star Trek kids! Its a totally new take on how kids can play nice despite their differences ;) I also love the superhero clothesline piece. The secret words are the Batman theme song, "Dunna, dunna, dunna, dunna!" Its such a great idea to have the costumes hanging and make people test their trivia. There are several versions of the clotheslines, princesses, villains, female fashion icons, sports heroes, tough guys in movies and even a musicians version called "One Love." Michael doesn't do commission work any more since he's busy branching out into t-shirts and continuously making new work to keep up with his fans at the Sawdust Festival every Summer. So his original paintings sell really fast. The studio gallery has giclee reproductions for sale (he only makes 50 of each painting). You can also get paper prints ($25 or 2 for $40) both framed and unframed (5x7" frames are only $20). The greeting cards are hilarious! One of my favorites is the princess clothesline birthday card that reads: May your pumpkins always have wheels, your mice have GPS, your frogs be tall and handsome, and your watch remain forever at eleven Wishing you a bipity bobity birthday Happy Birthday Princess SO CREATIVE!!! But, the best find were the jigsaw puzzles!!! Such a great idea to take awesome colorful images and make them into something the whole family can enjoy. (99 pieces for $25 and 1000 pieces for $40) I think its remarkable that his prices are so reasonable especially for being an artist in Laguna Beach. Most of all, I love that he makes art for people of all ages. I'm going to love cartoons forever and his pop-art cartoon illustrations are just too good. You can see what's new from Durden Art on Facebook or Etsy but I think its so much more meaningful to meet and purchase from the artist in person.

Inside, the store had a bright, clean, and well-organized layout that made browsing through the aisles relaxing and inspiring. Some items had prices that were clearly marked and some didn't. It was hard finding a staff member to get items scanned so I had to put it in my shopping cart and get to the checkout line for a price check. I have been to other Hobby Lobby locations and it's quite large with lots of items to look at. I feel like all these stores are owned by a Christian family as I frequently hear Christian music as you walk around the store and it is quite peacful and relaxing even for non religious shoppers. Some of the standout items for sale included seasonal home décor whcih right now was clearance items from Valentines Day and new items for Easter holiday. There were also a large display of artificial floral arrangements, wall art, and a wide variety of craft supplies. I found a few paints supplies and scrapbooking materials for my niece to enjoy. The selection was impressive, and the quality of the products made it easy to find unique items for both home decorating and DIY projects. Overall, this Hobby Lobby location is a great place to shop if you have time to wander the entire store because you will leave with a cart full of creative supplies or stylish décor. Plenty of parking in the front and restrooms are nice and clean.

Absolutely terrible customer service--completely unprofessional!!!…read more My husband and I were both "victims" in this situation, as we did not feel welcomed at all in the store. For comfort, my husband decided to stand outside while I proceeded to look around the store. When I walked into the store, the manager and an associate were just standing there, completely engrossed in a personal conversation. There was absolutely no greeting, no eye contact, and zero effort made to welcome customers into the space. It felt as though the staff couldn't care less that people were walking through the door, treating their own personal chatter as the priority. To make matters worse, when I proactively tried to be polite and asked them, "How are you?", I was met with an incredibly pretentious, cold, and ignorant attitude. Instead of a standard, courteous professional response, they made me feel like an interruption to their personal conversation. This wasn't just isolated to me, either. I watched as they treated other customers who walked into the store the exact same way-ignoring them, refusing to welcome them, and continuing their personal conversation right in front of everyone. For a manager to actively participate in this behavior alongside a casual associate sets an incredibly poor standard for the entire store. The atmosphere here is deeply unwelcoming and elitist. I will not be spending my money at a business that treats basic courtesy with such arrogance. Management needs to seriously retrain this team on fundamental customer service. To top it all off, when I finally walked out, they completely ignored me again-no "thank you," no acknowledgment, nothing. Just completely dismissive from start to finish. Do NOT SHOP HERE!!!
