First time Visionworks customer. I was treated so well from the moment I walked in!!!! I completely felt at ease and at home with all of the staff. I had a great experience with each member from checking in, to my insurance details, my pre exam tests final Dr exam. I was informed of every step along the way. Finally my eye exam was explained to me and I received a prescription for glasses and decided, with the help of Miley's sharp eye and beautiful voice on a new pair of glasses that fit my face, and made me feel polished and put together. It felt as if I was visiting with some friends when I was actually getting a thorough eye exam and tests to assure that my vision and my eyes are healthy and clear!!!! I didn't get my new BEST friend's first name but Miley, You know who You are!!!! Visionworks always seems to have many appointments open. After visiting I better understand why: the fees. My criticism is of the chain, not staff, as the staff were simply upholding the corporate policy of a separate fee for an eye glass exam, and another (quite large ~$120) fee for a contacts exam. I have VSP insurance, Visionworks is owned by VSP: one would assume the insurance company is leveraging their owned locations to be able to give clients the best deal. Not so. When I asked why, in decades of having VSP, no other optometrist had EVER charged me separately for the eye glass and contact exams, the response was "corporate policy." They acknowledged that other optometrist shops NOT owned by VSP combined the exams and only billed for one, but that practical approach doesn't matter to VSP. Bill for each as though they're not looking at your eyes at the same time! Utterly ridiculous and wildly alienating to your customer base. You simply drove me to a non-VSP optometrist. In-network so they take VSP insurance, but not billing me for two services when they can and should bill for one, as they are literally able to be performed simultaneously. read more

Every time I have placed an order for my contacts there has been an issue. There's no follow up on the order. You have to constantly call for updates and overall a really bad experience. I've waited a month for one order of contacts and there's no ownership or empathy from the staff. read more

Seems to me that this establishment needs some Customer Service help. My Daughter lost her contact lens. Mind you, i5 was her fault. She called to see if she might be able to get/ purchase another trial set so she could get by for a week until she can purchase her yearly amount, and they all of a sudden dont have anything to help her with. The Rep, Ryan was rude and quick to hang up with her. All this after a hiccup of NOT explaining how thickness of glasses can be adjusted. The Reps here, dont explain this. They have one job, to HELP the consumers pick the best options for the customer. At the very least explain all the options to us, not just what the Doctor recommends. Customers dont always know what's best and no one wants Coke bottoms for glasses when there are other options for us that allows for thinner glasses even if there is a charge for it. Lets get it together!!! Do better!!! read more

I found it really convenient to come to this location. It was also very easy to book an appointment online for an eye exam. They tell you how many appointments they have available for each day. When I walked in, I was greeted by the staff. They welcomed me to look at their eyeglass selection while awaiting my appointment. The staff were overall very friendly and helpful. The woman who did the initial eye exam was very informative in explaining which tests she was doing. I really appreciated that. She offered two types of retinal tests - one with the traditional dilation with those pesky eye drops (an additional $10) and the other was this new technology that can take pictures (an additional $39). They recommended the new technology and I was a bit hesitant at first, because I wasn't super sure if the added cost was really justified. It does take time to fire up that machine, so if you're in a time crunch and have things to do the rest of the day, I would recommend going with that option instead of the eye drops. After the initial exam, Dr. Lam performed the rest of the evaluation. She was very professional and friendly. She explained that retina machine thing in that the benefit is you will have actual pictures saved of your retina to compare over time, whereas with the drops, only the optometrist can see. Once I had that exam completed, she reviewed the images with me and explained what she was seeing. After that, she mentioned if I was interested in contacts (which I was), she said I just had to set up some time to get oriented with using them since it would be my first time using contacts. I would just have to get it completed within 6 months of my eye exam so that I didn't have to have it repeated. Overall, I was happy with my experience with Visionworks and would recommend them. read more

I'm a little worried because Visionworks is a new company in Elk Grove. However, because Visionworks' parent company is VSP, I think I can trust them. I'm glad I did. All the employees are very kind, helpful, and professional. Dr. Lam is one of the best optometrists I have ever met. She is very patient, extremely knowledgeable, and very detailed. Another lady, I forgot to get her name, who does all the pre-tests for me. She is excellent, and she is an amiable lady too. I had Sinjita help me with the glasses after the exam. She is very nice and helpful. She explained how my insurance works and helped me pick my glasses frame. I had an excellent experience from the moment I walked into the store all the way through. Visionworks in Elk Grove has many excellent glass frame selections, and the most important thing is the fantastic employees who care. I messed up my glasses the night before, and where I ordered them from initially didn't do repairs, so I checked this place out to see what to do. Ryan assisted me, he said it would take 20-30 minutes to get to (it looked pretty busy in there). I got the call a bit later and was told they weren't fix-able by the lady on the phone (they were in bad shape). I returned not long after and Ryan had my glasses and said he might be able to fix them. Lo and behold, he actually did and even better than before they were broken. I asked what I owed and was told I don't owe anything, even though I didn't buy this pair from them. Ryan earned this place a customer for life and saved my weekend. Thank you! read more

The staff did a great job helping me get new glasses. I had a prescription from an outside provider that was incorrect. They caught the error and walked me through fixing it with my current provider. Including getting a hold on my insurance released. The pricing on VSP glasses was Amazing and the staff was very focused on helping me. I am going to switch my optometrist to vision works next year. I decided to try this place because they accept VSP insurance and it is at a convenient location for South Sacramento residents. My experience felt a lot less personalized than I am accustomed. The optician didn't really help with finding the right glasses to fit my face, as a matter of fact she gave no feedback on my choices. She performed the technical measurements like most opticians. I received my glasses back much sooner than expected (within a week) but upon fitting them they seemed to rely on me to tell them what's wrong. I ended up returning to get them refitted because the top of the frames kept falling to eye-level - something most opticians check before I leave, but each optician here is different with all 3 visits. They did process all the insurances properly, which was helpful, and I didn't have to wait much during the weekday. Jury is still out if I'll return. read more

All the staff were professional and really helpful. They took their time looking up all the insurance company I had to make sure what service gave me free frame or lens due to me having 3 different vision insurance from work and thru my husband work place as well. Huyen was very attentive and nice. Sinjita and Yasika helped me with picking out the right frame and my exam. Both were very nice and provided great customer service. Dr. Lam was great as well. Came by earlier to get my glasses adjusted. The ladies were helpful; however when I returned @ 6:15pm. The doors were locked and apparently, they are closed. Sign says close @ 6:30. I was disappointed because I was hoping I can get them adjusted. Now, they are too tight and hurts my ear. read more

This place is conveniently located in a plaza right next to Kohl's and one of my favorite stores Trader Joe's. My first visit here I was immediately greeted and smiles and all the staff was very friendly and complimentary. Huyen and Ryan helped me out that day as well as the assistant and doctor for my appointment. I did not have to wait long and it was a breeze from the beginning. It was very busy the day I can in and they were very professional and personable. I came back a second time since I had prior engagements and didn't have time to pick my glasses. I scheduled an eye exam appointment at VSP Visionworks Doctors of Optometry through the VSP website, expecting to use my VSP plan benefits. Upon arrival, I was surprised by an immediate attempt to upsell additional services. When I explained that I wanted only the standard eye exam I had scheduled--fully covered by my VSP plan--I was told I would either need to come back another day or pay an extra copay to be seen immediately, even though I was the only customer in the store. It was disappointing to have this kind of experience at a provider not only listed on the VSP network, but also operating under the VSP name. read more

I would give that place 0 stars if I could. I really hate to write bad reviews and this will be my first. I always try to support small businesses because they are important to our local economy. My son went to visionworks because they were a new business & he wanted to support their business. I checked his invoice & noticed he was charged $39 for retinal screening. He said the technician NEVER informed him there was an additional $39 fee. All she said was this is a new service and asked him if he wanted it? I called the office & the manager said her technician informed my son of the additional fee? She stood by her technician's word even though she wasn't present at the conversation? She said they are trained to inform customers about the additional $39 fee? Hmm.. sure.. My son said she never informed him of the additional fee because he would have declined it. The manager said she couldn't do anything for me? Sorry? That's it? Too bad too sad BS?! I am deeply disappointed with this establishment & requested to cancel his glasses. I would definitely stay away from this business. The technician is not properly trained to inform customers of additional hidden fees. read more

The place is really clean. Michelle was amazing and made the entire process for the family pain free. I can't remember the assistant's name who helped us with the exam before the doctor came in but she was awesome as well. The pre tests are never fun with the eye puff air thing. She did great with my kids and it was actually a fun experience. The Doctor was nice and fun as well. The people here are so nice and attentive. They do not proceed without making sure that the patient is well aware of the processes and what's going on. Sometimes, there's places that have doctors who just tell you to do this and that without explaining themselves. This place is open on Saturday which is great for people who work during the weekdays. My sister and I decided to try Visionworks for the first time this past summer. Neither of us had ever been to a chain to get glasses and we weren't sure what to expect. We were so pleasantly surprised! Friendly staff, great doctor and a good selection of reasonably priced frames. We both a bit a trouble with our Rx, but that was quickly fixed. And when I picked out a frame that ended up being too heavy, I was able to choose a new frame and get my glasses redone. Worst optometrist in the state. Booked for convenience since they are affiliated with VSP. First appointment was cancelled because although they advertise patients 3-5 years of age they do not have the capacity to see children of that age here. Today my appointment was cancelled again because my husband walked in with our other child at 5:47PM instead of 5:45PM so unfortunately we will not be seen again. I asked for district manager info and was given the name "Sam". Manager Guli said she has no power to do anything and they could refuse to see anyone ultimately. No courtesy text, call, reminder to notify that lunch and end of day appointments are cancelled immediately if even 1 minute late. The doctor walked out as soon as she saw us at door. The whole staff was unwilling to help please go anywhere else I am begging you. Avoid at all costs. Lots of misinformation and lack of empathy. My benefits cancel out today so there goes that. read more

I moved here from AZ a few months ago. I had gone to Visionworks while living there and was sad to see there weren't any locations here at first. I finally got to visit this location shortly after it opened and had the BEST experience. Gulie was absolutely wonderful!! She is so helpful and kind. She also asked if I'd be interested in a retinal screening which was so fascinating to me! I felt very comfortable while going through the first few examinations with her before she passed me along to the doctor who was also very patient and helped set me up with a new brand of contacts that I feel much better in. He also explained my retinal screening to me in detail - he did a great job educating me on that. I had an issue with my insurance when trying to order more contacts but since I had come in at the end of the day, Gulie wasn't able to call on my behalf but she committed to having the person who opened the next day reach out to my insurance first thing in the morning. I was delighted to get a call from that person with clarification the next morning - she was also friendly and I felt she genuinely cared about helping me solve that problem. My daughter was overdue for an eye exam, so I searched online for a convenient location that allows booking appointments online. Booked an appointment on a Sunday afternoon for a Tuesday evening exam. Easy peasy. Went in that Tuesday evening, and from start to finish, the staff were friendly and very helpful in conducting an exam, recommending frames, and ultimately ordering a pair of glasses for my daughter. The prescription glasses were ready for pick-up three days later on Friday. Went to pick up the glasses the following Monday, and the staff welcomed my daughter and I, even remembering our names from the week prior. After my daughter tried on her new glasses, a quick adjustment was made and we were out within 10 minutes. My daughter enjoyed her experience, noting that the staff were extremely friendly and had great personalities. So with that being said, kudos to this Visionworks for the positive experience! read more
