Servers super nice very attentive. I think I may have order the wrong food The lobster ramen noddles for 35 dollars had a huge lobster shell, if I got a few pieces was a lot. Grilled oysters, those are full of brown matter, not good at all. Filet tenderloins, $12 overcooked steak and very small tapas. Drinks are so so. The noodles had good flavor don't get me wrong. Fireeee! My friend from out of town invited me to Lai Rai and we just allowed the waitress to order for us. She sent us a little bit of everything; oysters, two types of garlic escargot, bone marroe and the most perfect chicken wings, beef with vegetables etc. everything was perfect. They are authentic Vietnamese with lots of seafood and street food. I ordered a Vietnamese beer that paired well with the meal. You sit in low colorful stools, and the place was packed but they were able to accommodate everyone. By the end of the night, they brought out desserts from the Vietnamese bakery next door and allowed us to take some home on the house, what a thoughtful thing to do. Came here with my partner many times before when it was still Mama Tofu, I'm glad that its still a vietnamese street food place (we really miss the bun rieu noodle dish though )! Small restaurant but still plenty of seating and is cozy inside. Our server was very helpful and gave suggestions on their new specials. This is a new place. Opened just 3 months ago and it seemed like a very fun and hip place. With little plastic stools to mimic the street food eateries in Vietnam and the paintings on the wall to create fake door and windows and the baskets used as lamp shades for the over head light bulbs, it created a very nostalgic atmosphere in spite of tiny real estate. Yes, the place is really small but they made great use of indoor and outdoor space. The place already got good traction and for an early Saturday dinner, the place was almost full. Despite being busy, the staff is making sure they are paying attention to detail and ensuring regular check ins with the customers. I was attended to by Sophia and she was the sweetest girl. She was so patient with my order and repeatedly checked with the kitchen staff to ensure my customizations were done to the order. I was surprised to know that it was only her 4th door and she had no prior experience in restaurant service but she delivered well. Even the other staff members came over to the table periodically and ensured I was doing well and that food met my expectation. I had Fried oysters for app and chicken noodles for entree. Next to 545 Bánh Mì Café and Pho 79, Lai Rai is doing something very different from the usual Broward Vietnamese lineup. This is not a pho shop. It's Vietnamese tapas and seafood culture -- skewers, shellfish, beer food, and a full escargot section on the menu. What we actually ordered: * Lemongrass clams -- Easily the standout. Bright, aromatic broth with citrus and chili heat, clean shells, great balance. I could have eaten an entire bowl myself. This is the dish to order. * Canadian whelk in butter garlic -- The only snail we tried. Properly cooked, good garlic butter sauce, but whelk is inherently firm and dense. Glad I tried it, but the texture isn't my favorite. That's an ingredient preference more than execution. * Giant grilled prawn skewers -- Excellent caramelization, juicy, nicely seasoned. Probably the most visually impressive dish on the table. * Pork belly skewers -- Blistered, fatty, rendered correctly. Classic street-style energy. * Macaroni pasta with filet mignon -- Good quality beef, cooked properly, but overall a fairly plain tasting dish compared to everything else. It feels like a comfort option for less adventurous diners. We observed a lot of other snail preparations on the menu -- tamarind versions, coconut, grilled garlic, Hong Kong salt-and-pepper styles -- but didn't try them this time. Atmosphere-wise, it's colorful and casual. Low plastic stools (not built for lingering), patterned plates, open kitchen, red and blue hanging lamps. It feels like Saigon seafood beer culture dropped into a Davie strip plaza. The Chin-Su hot sauce on the table is legit Vietnamese heat -- sweeter and more layered than standard sriracha -- and you can grab a bottle at Mango Tree. This is a fun, slightly adventurous spot. Not just "good Thai," but creative, adventurous, and clearly made by people who love food. Just bursting with flavor. The service was helpful and top notch. They were always cleaning, serving, filling our drinks. We loved it. The setting is supposed to remind you of Vietnamese street food. I spent about a month traveling up and down Vietnam and totally understand the concept but I just don't think the food hit the mark. I was really excited to try this place given all the great reviews and wonder if I just had a bad day. Everything was fine, it just wasn't screaming delicious like Vietnamese food usually is. We had the grilled oysters, grilled scallops with quail eggs, chicken gizzard skewers, lemongrass tofu, welk in tamarind sauce, and the bone marrow. Of the things we ate, we enjoyed the bone marrow most, but it was a very shallow bone with hardly any marrow. The lemongrass tofu is deep fried with a ginger sauce I could've used more of. We were somewhat full from our late lunch so the tapas portions were actually perfect and allowed us to try 4 dishes that were all delicious. We had spotted escargot w/garlic butter sauce. It was chewy and buttery and came out of the shells easily with the provided wooden picks. Next was the lobster ramen in garlic butter sauce. Great presentation and we all loved this dish! You may sense our love of garlic butter sauce by now. Then came the roasted bone marrow with Vietnamese breadsticks.breads ticks. Love that the green onion sauce and fried shallots with a touch of spice kicked it up a level from other bone marrows. Last came the grilled oysters with scallion fish sauce. These were huge and the oyster meat was juicy and succulent under the yummy peanut toppings. We used to go to the restaurant that was there previously and loved it, unfortunately it shut down. Ended up finding out that this opened a couple months serving similar dishes and decided to give it a try. We ordered the Escargot in Coconut sauce, Spotted escargot in Garlic Butter, Crab Fried Rice, Pork belly skewers, Steamed Thai Clams, and a Kumquat tea. The two escargot dishes were good, nothing super mind blowing. If I were to order either again it'd have to be the coconut one. Crab fried rice had a good smoky flavor and some nice lumps of crab, however, the rice was very overcooked. Either too much water was used to cook it or the rice was too fresh. The fried rice ended up being a bit mushy. The skewers were very delicious. Nice thin charred pieces of pork belly with a sweet lemongrass glaze. My favorite was the Thai steamed clams. It was a tom yum inspired broth, good spice and a nice tartness. The kumquat tea was refreshing but I wasn't a fan of the aftertaste. Our server was very nice and the restaurant had a nice vibe. It's called Vietnamese street food but the flavors are as good as Tan Dinh in Paris. My husband and I were blown away.
