We got a free upgrade to the next cabin up from the one we asked for. It fit the 4 of us perfectly. It was so nice there and the cottages all looked lovely. The prices for their cottages and boat rentals are perfectly reasonable. It is defiantly a place I will go again. In fact, the four of use are planning to go there this time next year.

The owner's cabin is about a quarter mile away so he be their if needed. The rooms and overall cabin is clean, though the cabin is not serviced daily. As it is in the forest, bugs can be an issue if they get into the cabin with an open door. The price is reasonable for the accommodations provided beating out many area lodgings for the price vs number of occupants. With this being a cabin the area is remote and getting to obtain groceries and services is about a 30 minute drive. As to amenities, my only issue is that the kitchen does not come with an exhaust fan so that will limit the foods that can be cooked.

We were with 2 other families and Wildcat couldn't accommodate us. There were several sites opened but refused to move us. Before the fireworks began on Saturday evening we decided to take the kids down to listen to the band and then stay to watch the fireworks. Big mistake! Up on the top of the hill they allow 4 wheelers, dirt bikers, RZR's and any other time of vehicle to park on the hillside with no barrier and right as it was getting dark a 15 year old got off her 4 wheeler on the top never put it in park and it rolled down the hill and slammed into my families RZR pushing it into our friends RZR. My daughter was hit in the chest lucky she is ok. My husband was in the driver seat and is fine. Her parents were both drunk. Her uncle was supposedly in charge. I called the police but they wouldn't come out because of it being on private property. The owner tried our family like we were trash and treated to kick us out. No apologies or nothing. Worst riding park ever! Will not be back. Damages to our RZR were treated as if they were no big deal. Not a family friendly park. The security/sherrif on site couldn't and wouldn't do anything about it.

Floors very dusty with foot prints throughout . As I was the first to go into shower I saw a long hair on the wall of shower. Rodent droppings under sink and in small flipping cabinet at sink usually store sponges ! They charge $70.00 to your bill for a cleaning fee when you check out but I think they just pocket it! The office staff is full of info and very friendly! The trails are nicely laid out. Plenty of easy or hard you can choose. We were here from 2p-1am. Night driving was awesome! Great crowd of people, a good mix of young, old, and families out riding. Bikes, ATVs, jeeps, razors, and saw a tracker. Some trails were closed or blocked off - i would assume due to danger? But there were so many you didnt miss one or two. Nice views from the wildcat dome. An old train tunnel, a lost boat, jurassic park trail... so much more.

None of the rooms had a ceiling fan; thankfully the AC was pumping otherwise it would've been extremely stuffy. The whole cabin was pretty nasty. I was very worried that we were going to get bed bugs or some other kind of vermin. The restaurant in the marina: Sorrento's, was not great. Not really what you'd expect for a marina restaurant. Kind of upscale and a weird blend of Hispanic and Italian food. The steak sandwich was not good. Very fatty and chewy. The facilities team at Lee's Ford was lovely. Other boaters were very rude. I can understand how locals are not huge fans of tourists, but we had run-ins with 2 local families who were particularly nasty. Overall, not a great experience. Do not recommend you to stay here. This was the second time that I've visited Holly Bay campground. It's located in Daniel Boone…read moreNational Forest and on Laurel Lake and just a few miles from Cumberland Falls. It's my favorite campground when I'm looking for seclusion. It seems like you're hours from the city, but it's just about an hour and a half from Lexington and 20 minutes or so from the interstate. The Grove is it's sister property, so if there isn't spots available here, there may be some at The Grove. Loops D & H are available via reservation, the other loops are walk up. This time we stayed in loop G area... G2 was our site and through the trees, you could see the lake. The paved pad was long and then there were steps that led to the huge graveled fire pit area. Perfect for tent camping. It wasn't considered a premium or double site, but compared to state resort park sites, it was at least twice as big. The shower house was decent. The water cold and the fact that the water on the shower was controlled by a button that you had to push every 30 seconds, was a bit annoying. I was thankful for hand soap and toilet paper though. The lady at check-in was a hot mess. She kept answering her cell phone and the landline phone instead of waiting on us. She didn't know which sites were lake side and wouldn't let us pay, look to choose a site, drop off and come back. She made us tow the camper down the narrow paths, choose a spot and then come back to pay with the camper in tow. Then it took her at least 10 minutes to write up the ticket, etc. After a 45 minute fiasco, we finally set up in the dark. Lesson learned... Remember what site # that you want, if you've not been there, study the map before you go. Things to consider are if you want to be by the lake, the shower house, or away from other sites. It's an American Land and Leisure run campground. I can't really figure out the ins and outs of the structurally run campgrounds... I've stayed at the Cor of Engineer, state park and KOA campgrounds. The American Land and Leisure campgrounds and sites seem to be the biggest and the most inexpensive.
