The girls were understanding and talked me through if I wasn't able to take on the bridge. This is a guided tour about a mile long. The entrance is so beautiful. It is like walking into a secret garden. The river is gorgeous and the water sounds so soothing. When we got to the bridge it wasn't as bad as my mind was making it out to be. It is high but the darkness of the cave made it harder to see how high up you are. The bridge felt really stable and didn't shake as much as I was expecting. This is a beautiful cave. The tour was fantastic. My pup loved the tour and had a blast cave exploring.

For the last couple years my wife and I have taken to doing cave tours. We've done several in the…read morearea and only made it to Hidden River Cave & American Cave Museum recently. Unlike some cave attractions, you have to make a reservation to visit Hidden River. It's easy via their website. Once you arrive you can check in at the desk and then tour the museum and gift shop before your cave tour begins. The museum is self-guided and is two stories' worth of exhibits. There's a staircase that takes you down to the lower level where you'll find just as many exhibits as their is on the main floor. Everything is presented nicely, well lit, and informative. Shortly before your tour begins your tour guide will introduce himself, give you a brief overview of the cave, and then do a Q&A before heading to the cave entrance. This cave tour begins by descending some steps. A Lot of steps. The opening is very impressive, and as you ascend you can feel the temperature drop. A brief pause at the bottom of the steps and our tour guide pointed out some of the machinery left over from various uses of the cave in the past. Then it's into the cave. I love cave tours because it puts you in a place that's nothing but history. They're made by nature, often hidden for centuries, and, for all intents and purposes, somewhere that man isn't really intended to go...but we're Mankind and we do that kind of thing. Once inside the cave there are areas that are expansive and areas that are terrifically narrow. I love large, open spaces underground. Sometimes you have to remind yourself that your anywhere from 50 to over 100 feet below surface. In a fashion, it's a bit humbling. At the same time, you have to remind yourself that you're actually below a downtown area. The suspended bridge was definitely a highlight of this cave tour. Cleverly designed and installed, I'd almost consider an underground wonder. A little further along you come to the Sunset Dome, and the farther point of your tour. The Sunset Dome is a beautiful space. I just had to stop and listen to the silence. Nothing but silence, running was from an underground steam, and the occasional drop of water from above (a cave kiss). If only the others on our tour would have been to appreciate it more. After the Sunset Dome you hit rewind and head back along the same path you just took on the way in. Back cross the suspended bridge. Then back to the bottom of the staircase....which you now need to walk up. And there are A LOT of stairs. It was tough, I'm not going to lie. I'm in pretty good shape and I had to stop twice on the way up. Once you're up to the top you have a chance to visit the gift shop again and purchase a souvenir or two. I don't recall our tour guide's name, but he was pretty good. He did spent a fair amount of time patting himself on the back, stating at least 4 times that how long he'd been doing these tours and how he considered himself an expert. Weird flex, but ok. It was still a good tour and I'm glad we were finally able to get to Hidden River Cave.

The picture provided is the original itinerary I paid for and the second itinerary is what was given to us once we arrived in Seattle. The reason I signed up for the trip was because I was going to go to the space needle and pike place market in Seattle, Mt. Rainier National Park, Columbia River Gorge waterfall tour, stop in Cresent City for seafood, visit the Redwood forest, do a wine country tour in Santa Rosa, and spend the day in San Francisco. As shown in the original itinerary. The itinerary we got was not what we paid for. We left the airport and went to the space needle for a 10 minute photo take outside the space needle. We didn't even see Pike Place Market. We went to Denny's for lunch. We left Seattle and drove 35 miles east to Fall City to Snoqualmie Falls. Stopped for approximately 30 minutes. Then drove to Chehalis which took 2 hours and was checked in by 4:00. Absolutely nothing to do or see around there and very limited on places to eat. Day 2 we headed out to Mt. Rainier leaving at 9 am we got there around 11:00. Went to visitors center for lunch. No sit down dining. All grab and go and with outrageous prices for food like $7.00 for an egg salad sandwich so spent $11 on junk food for lunch. Drove back to the hotel which was a 2 hour trip. Back at the hotel by 4 pm. Ate dinner at the only restaurant that was nearby. Day 3 drove from Chehalis to Crater Lake a 6 1/2 hour drive stopping at DQ for lunch on the way. Spent maybe 30-45 minutes there then drove from Crater Lake to Grants Pass for another 2 hours. Ate dinner at a nearby Applebee's. Day 4 we've started our drive from Grants Pass to Santa Rosa a 7 hour trip. Stopped twice in the Redwood forest for 20 minutes each stop. Arrived at the most outer edge of Santa Rosa around 6pm with only McDonald's and Panera Bread to eat at and absolutely nothing else around to see or do. Day 5 we left the hotel at 9 am to drive 1 and 1/2 hours to walk across the Golden Gate Bridge each way and then return to the hotel only to get there to not be able to park the bus due to rally going on. So we were able to spend 2 hours at Fisherman's Wharf which lunch took up an hour of that. Back on the bus at 2 pm and and later back at the hotel in Santa Rosa at 4 pm. Then we got to get up at 2am to make the hour and half ride BACK to the San Francisco airport to fly out at 6 am.

Second time at the Kentucky Cooperage for a tour and it was as good as the first…read more The tour first starts at their welcome center. Make sure to take pics of everything there because photos are not allowed on the tours. After a short video, you climb into a bus and are shuttled over to the plant, where the tour officially begins. You first walk into the barrel raising room where the smell of fresh milled wood hits you. It's easy to see from the start that spirits get a ton of flavor from the barrels when you walk in and catch a whiff. After a short demonstration of raising, they walk you to what I consider the highlight of the tour, the char station. 6 barrels are loaded at a time, gas burners are inserted inside the barrel and for an undisclosed number of seconds, fire is applied to the inside. They are still on fire as they move to the next station where they are doused and put out. It's a spectacle I wish could be videoed because it's amazing. From there, a short demonstration on the art of cooperage and then outside for a photo stop. Overall a great tour with tons of knowledge about bourbon and spirits. If you are looking for something outside of distilleries, make a stop here. You won't be disappointed.
