Lake Forest Animal Hospital staff are Hero's!!!!!!!! Dr. Holly and Lake Forest Animal Hospital helped saved our 13 year old elderly family dog's life. They treat is like FAMILY. They were completely BOOKED but MADE ROOM for our dog to be seen very last minute. We had already been provided vet that told us to just give him chicken breast! They didn't help treat the issue or help with pain medication or nutrients. If Lake Forest hadnt worked him in, he would have been suffering and in pain! He would not have overcome without their help! I love this vet as they are very knowledgeabl, skilled, and understanding. They do not over charge by running a lot of tests. They know specifically what to do to treat the root cause issue. Thank you Susanne who answers the phones and helped get our dog in, Dr. Holly, and staff!! You are HERO's!!! I am so livid!! We just picked up our baby from 4 days of boarding. This was our second time boarding here but first time this long. Our pups towel that he sleeps with still smells like laundry deterrent (it obviously wasn't given to him), his dry food, wet food and treats were still in the bag we dropped off. We left specific feeding instructions and obviously not followed as he should have nothing left over after 4 days. We even called to check on him yesterday and asked if he was doing well, eating well. We were reassured that he was. We picked him up at 2:30 this afternoon and charged for another full day because "it was after 1PM". We were told we had to pick up by 5:00PM, no mention of extra charge if after 1PM. Instead, this experience left me shocked, heartbroken, and feeling completely abandoned during one of the most traumatic moments of my pet's life. My feelings and thoughts were valid and are valid. My panic, shock, and emotional pain are completely valid and heartbreaking. Teddy's situation is absolutely devastating: losing complete hearing in one ear, enduring constant pain despite multiple treatments, and now facing major surgery like Total Ear Canal Ablation (TECA) to remove the entire ear canal. After pouring thousands--around $4,000--into his care with no lasting relief, the prospect of another 3-5k bill feels like an impossible blow, especially when I'm already exhausted, burnt out, and emotionally strained. Teddy has suffered from painful, recurrent ear infections for a long time. I drove 3 hours from Raleigh, NC, through heavy traffic and slow-moving trucks, just to keep his appointment here. I called ahead to warn them I was running late due to unavoidable delays. When I arrived, the staff seemed frustrated and treated me like an inconvenience. They refused to clean his ears that day (even though another vet had managed it despite his pain and resistance), insisting I give him prednisone first and do the cleaning myself at home. I was terrified--I'm not a vet, I have no training, I was already overwhelmed and traumatized by his ongoing suffering, and I felt unequipped to handle a complex, painful infection safely. I brought him back a second time; they sedated him, cleaned his ears, and placed the monthly medication (the same one that had failed multiple times before and clogged his ears again). I had explicitly told them it hadn't worked previously, yet it was repeated. I emailed the office calmly expressing my disappointment and concern that Teddy wasn't improving, sent photos of his ear, that the same ineffective treatment was used again, and my worry about no oral antibiotics (as a non-vet, I feared the infection spreading). I have the emails as proof: I was never rude, never put down the vet or staff, never threatened anyone, never yelled, never cursed, and never did anything aggressive. They dismissed Teddy's pain response during handling as him being "dramatic." This is not how veterinary care should work. When a pet is in constant pain, losing hearing, and facing major surgery, owners need empathy, not abandonment. My concerns came from a place of love, fear, and trauma--not rudeness. I did not know at the time he needed his ear canal removed. I did not know why he wasn't getting better and I was SCARED. To be cut off without warning in the middle of a crisis feels punitive and unprofessional. These are animal healthcare providers; they should understand that pets are family and that owners panic when their loved one is suffering. I'm beyond disappointed and heartbroken. I would not recommend this practice to anyone facing a serious or chronic pet health issue. Seek a vet who communicates, shows compassion, and doesn't drop clients when they advocate for their animal during difficult times. Teddy deserves better. So did I. I am Thankful that my new vet is a lot more compassionate, empathetic, and communicative. His new vet also sent me home with pain meds which Dr. Holley did not and he yelped really loudly when I picked him up. I also told them he needed to go to the bathroom before sedation. They said he needed to be sedated soon for them to be able to do it. When I arrived, they gave me judgmental looks, and Teddy was barking a lot. It's because he was trying to tell them he needed to go to the bathroom. I took him to potty and he pottied a long time. He was taken beforehand but with the prednisone, he needed to have been taken out beforehand. read more

Like the other person questioning the bad reviews, my wife and I have been coming here for years with only the most professional and welcoming service. This service has been extended to 12 golden retrievers and three cats for 20 years. I have nothing but praise for the staff and Doctors over the years. I just don't understand those bad reviews. When waiting in the office for my turn to visit the Vets, I see the care provided to the other customers. It is equally as good. Those bad reviews don't make any sense. read more

Stay away from this vet practice if you value your pets. The front desk staff is rude. Our sweet 14 year old dog got sick the week of Christmas, was seen twice, then got worse and the staff was more concerned with their time off than our dog. When we called them upon their opening Christmas Eve to let them know that she was worse despite the meds and treatment, and then did not hear back, we stopped in and Amanda told us that the doctor, "may or may not get back to you." The vet that she saw during the week was a new vet to this practice, and did not see the warning signs that her symptoms and blood work showed. It was not until we ended up in the urgent care hospital that we got the expertise and clear diagnosis. Our precious one did not make it out of this illness, and this practice was far from kind and sympathetic. EDIT -we received a sympathy card two weeks after her death. We won't be back and would not recommend them. read more

I understand there is a shortage of vets, but stay away from this place. I had multiple negative interactions with this practice and I will be moving my dogs to another vet. Some of the problems are obviously related to the lack of professionalism displayed by the front desk staff, but that doesn't mitigate the lack of communication between staff and vet, nor does it overcome the inexperience of some of the newer vets. I have a dog with a congenital condition that is well known in the breed. I asked twice for the office staff to brief the "new" vet on this. When she came into the examining room, she had received no communication, nor did she seem to have much knowledge of the condition. She didn't even examine my dog for the condition. Bad, right, but the story gets worse. My second dog is quite elderly. He had developed an infection and I called on a Monday to make an appointment. Office staff would not schedule an appointment for more than a week out. His conditioned worsened and I called on a Thursday to try and get him in. Again, the staff told me it would be more than a week. I said, "He's old, and he's sick. What vet doesn't schedule appropriately for emergencies?" She refused to fit him in and said I could go on a waiting list if there were cancellations. I ended up taking this poor, sick, old dog to the critical car emergency vet. A few days later, they called and said, "Oh, we have a cancellation. Do you want to come in?" No inquiry about the condition of my dog. No concern expressed about his care, none whatsoever. They were only concerned about filling up their bookings so they could collect more money. So overbooked, they have no ability to see long standing clients who have emergencies. Stay away from such a place. This is not a practice that cares about your pets. read more

I came here well within business hours to pick up my pets prescription, after calling to let them know I was coming. After arriving and parking in a designated pick up spot, i spent about ten minutes attempting to call the number provided, but it went straight to voicemail every time. I put a face mask on and walked up to the window and finally someone came out, a staff member who was not wearing any sort of facial covering. I explained why I was there and they were very short with me and went back inside. While I was waiting I could see that no one inside was wearing facial coverings of any sort, including the 3-4 people sitting in the waiting room area. I'm appalled at both the rudeness of the staff interactions and their apparent lack of care for both human and animal patrons, neither of which are immune to Covid-19. I would not intrust my pets health to this facility. read more

I was not able to bring the dogs to this appt. in stead my 18 year old daughter brought the dogs. The lady at the front was so rude and asked my daughter to stand outside in the rain instead of placing her in a room. The receptionist whom she said was young and disheveled, rude and certainly not the kind of person you'd want representing a company. There is a lot of competition in Lynchburg with vets. This company needs to look at the service they provide in regards to quality. It's not about quantity. Customer service matters!! read more

All employees are kind and have the pets interest at heart! We have taken two dogs and a rabbit and all pets have been treated well. My dogs have had great care from Lake Forest over the years. The receptionist are very personable and I usually don't have to wait long. I love that the vets will get down on the floor with 'the boys' and they take extra care with our rescue dog who is a bit skittish. I've never felt rushed thru an exam. I highly recommend. read more

Dr. Holley is the Best.... I had a very angry Cat and she was able to take care of him and gave me two options. One being less expensive than the other. She suggested that we try the least expensive first and if there was no improvement then move on to the more invasive. She is the best. read more

I recently had a very poor experience here. Had to bring my dog in multiple times for the same issue and of course I was charged the full amount for each visit. The Vets did not seem that concerned with the health of my dog. When I spoke with the staff about my experience they did not seem concerned with retaining their customers.
