none of the other hospitals would take me in this week and told me that there would be at least a month in advance for an appointment. I called Ridgewood animal Hospital and they booked me right away. The receptionist was super sweet as well as the workers there. there is an area for cats that is a waiting room in an area for dogs so that is pretty nice. Very spacious as well. the workers as well as the people at the front desk were super sweet. i didn't have any problems. as well as the vet was very informative and helped me right away. gave me examples for my understanding. Out of touch. It took two visits, and $700 to get my dogs ear checked. The first time they "looked at it". The second time they finally did an actual exam. Tried to get his heartworm meds ordered ONLINE. They required a 24-hour waiting period, then I have to drive to the office and pick up a paper script to mail to an online pharmacy. This is 2022. Nobody uses paper like that anymore. Four times I've been to the place and only once was able to talk to a vet. The rest of the times I have to deal with uninformed assistants and desk personnel. I know they (the assistants) mean well, but for the high prices they charge it would be nice to actually meet the vet who is going to be treating your pet. Also, they never let you stay in the room when the exam is taking place. I have no idea if the vet actually does anything except hide in the back. All of the other vets I've taken my dog to let me be with him when he is sedated, and when he wakes up. If you disagree with any of them who work there they instantly treat you like an enemy. read more

Ridgewood did not reach out via phone (We have caller ID remember and your numbers and or voicemails would have been visible) second the profanity you lied about shows the lack of integrity you have trying to beef up your response. BTW shortly after you so-called treated my Cat, I took him to another vet, and you absolutely didn't do blood work, or you would have caught what was wrong with him. They have helped my bulldog Lucy with her little delicate self. She suffers from allergies and we move every year. So it's important we keep her treatment the same since we have found what works best for her. They are extremely kind and helpful and loving towards our baby. Very gentle and informative as well. There's a pain patch on my buddy, The #Dude. We pick up the prescriptions at Walgreens (and they were in contact with Dr. Lane to make sure they were giving the proper dose for a cat). Dr. Lane and his team (including Dr. Gallagher, Terri, Marcy, Daniel, and ZACH!) at Ridgewood Animal Hospital are our partners in treating our kitty for Stomatitis and then some. He's not out of the woods yet... likely another laser treatment and taking a sample for the right antibiotic to banish the deep-throat infection making it nearly impossible to eat anything shy of puree (even pate' has to be made softer!) The Dude's first vet visit was the week following his adoption on the Saturday after Thanksgiving (Nov 26). He snores lightly when his head is upside down, but it's magnified from some of his sleeping cubbies. #TooCute. Since then, Dr. Lane has been in touch with the NC vet who pulled the back teeth, researched the issues related to The Dude's symptoms, and lined us up with another local vet who could perform laser surgery to callous his gums and stop them from getting sore, oozing, and infected. The Dude is 10 years old but soft and grateful to my husband and I and the folks who are taking care of him. And I'm so grateful to the whole team for the little bit of Love and Comfort magnified by going through these health challenges together. After 8 months of taking my dog to multiple vets and specialists for an ongoing GI issue, a friend recommended Dr. Lane and the staff at Ridgewood, so I took my pup here for a second opinion. Everyone was very nice and patient, and the building is very clean and spacious (and easy to get to, with plenty of parking and a dog relief area which was great). The vet tech who assisted us was very sympathetic and shared with me her own struggles having an adult cat with a similar issue as my Yorkie (and how they've managed it- the tacit message being that a pet can still lead a full life despite the concerns). Dr. Lane himself was great- personable, patient, and candid. He didn't sugarcoat anything, but he also wasn't doom-and-gloom, and he answered all of my 'what if' questions about treatment. He was also very sweet with my pup, who was terrified to have a physical exam and not so sure about all the strangers there. I didn't feel rushed (such a nice change from doctor's visits!) and his calm demeanor and comprehensive explanation left me confident in next steps and braced for possible diagnoses (as a result of the next set of lab tests). The office visit was $75, which is on par with what I've paid for first-time visits at other vets in SW Virginia, and in my opinion well worth it. read more

I would not recommend Dr Ross at this practice. She was more concerned about lecturing and questioning me as a first time dog owner versus education. I felt her and her vet tech, Paige I believe her name was, were not respectful of what I tried to tell them about my dog who is very nervous at baseline and I perceived them to get easily frustrated. I could hear them speaking to and about my dog in a negative manner behind the door as well. My dog with a lot of anxiety was quite literally yanked from me by Paige within minutes of being at the office. Which my dog did not respond well to, and then I was told we would not be able to treat my dog that day. I was there for a repeat fecal smear and to have her stitches removed, neither were done and I had to remove her stitches myself at home after returning from the vet. I was not appreciative of their approach towards me or my dog and will not be returning to their office. If you have a nervous or anxious dog I would not recommend this office. read more

We've been taking our dogs to this vet for two years now. The bill is always EXTREME and they always try selling vaccines that aren't necessary and try putting all my animals on a million different medications. Dr. Lane is a nice man but sadly I think this vet is very driven by trying to charge astronomical prices and making you feel like your pet needs a bunch of stuff that isn't necessary for them to make money. They also do not like to admit when they are wrong. we brought my dog in last minute he couldn't eat or drink and we saw dr Ross which we never do. She seemed young and under qualified. We kept telling her we really think he swallows a foreign body but she kept assuring us it was a stomach bug. Sent us home with a bunch of meds and a $730 vet bill. Our dog ended up almost dying 3 days later from severe dehydration and thank god we didn't listen to her and decided to bring him to an emergency vet hospital. Sure enough, he had a foreign body stuck in his intestines. We are so lucky we brought him in because he had gone so long with no food or water he was in very bad shape. They removed part of his small intestines and thankfully he is doing better now. None of the doctors at ridgewood caught this and kept telling us it was a bug and then when I told them what happened and that we had to pay $2000 for the hospital to do the same tests they did they refused to give any of my money back and tried to shove it in my face that I wouldn't let my dog stay with them over night for observation. First of all, they don't even stay there. There is no one there at night so I left him there all day until they closed for "observation" they said he was feeling great after his IV (obviously) and we had nothing to worry about. Dr Lane can be very manipulative with the way he goes about things when something goes wrong. I would never trust them with any of my animals again and this is not the first time we've had a mishap with them! My animals are my babies and I could never leave them in the hands of the doctors that work at this practice. Reply to your comment: I was there at the emergency clinic with Biggie and that is a totally false statement. She saw something on the x ray she took immediately, she could not tell what it was so she took a second look. She saw something in there but did not know what it was and said he would need surgery right away and she would know once she got in there exactly what was stuck. She also mentioned before the surgery she may have to remove parts of his small intestines. Also, the x ray Dr Ross took at your vet was abnormal and further testing should have been done such as a barium exam. I did not know this at the time (or my MIL) because we aren't doctors and didn't see the x ray until after Biggie's surgery. The fact is you guys could have done more but didn't. You brushed it off as a stomach virus and at NO POINT did Dr Ross mention hospitalization at all, ever. I was on speaker talking to her as my MIL was in there and she never once mentioned that and continued to push that it was a stomach bug. As far as vaccines go, I've been pushed to vaccinate my 7 pound dog with 6 vaccines in one day and then you put him under anesthesia to neuter him. I expressed that made me very uncomfortable and you said it was mandatory. I contacted other vets offices who told me MOST of them were in fact not mandatory and one of them being a "flu shot" for dogs. read more

BEST VET IN LYH!!! Thankful to have stumbled upon Dr. Lane and his wonderful staff. We recently moved to the area and visited Ridgewood because it was close to our house, but WOW we are so happy we did. Dr. Lane and his staff go above and beyond every visit- he takes time to talk and answer questions, is knowledgeable and super supportive. During COVID we got a puppy and we're apprehensive because we couldn't go inside during our puppy's first visit, BUT Dr. Lane comes to your car and let's you know what is going on- he spends as much time with you as is needed, answers every single question and makes every visit worth it. Our pup is so excited every time we go and doesn't want to leave after his visit is over. I wish I could give more stars- if you live in Forest this vet is a must go to- if you live in a Lynchburg or Bedford it's worth the drive 100%. I absolutely love this clinic. I have been taking my cat here for two years, and have received nothing but the best service. The vets and vet technicians are SO nice, and really know how to handle animals with the gentlest care. My cat gets really anxious when she comes for a checkup, and they really know how to calm her down, while still thoroughly doing a head to toe exam. Dr. Jerry Lane and the whole staff at Ridgewood are just wonderful! My Weimaraner had an inflamed disc in her back and Dr. Lane was kind and patient enough to walk me and my husband through all the x-rays and blood work. These people are so genuine and caring. I called two other vets near me when my dog suddenly showed signs of a uti and both places couldn't help me and one of them was rude about it. When I called Ridgewood, the lady on phone was super empathetic and they were able to see me quickly. And while the availability was great, that doesn't make it a great place. What DOES make it a great place are the wonderful people that work there. They treat you like a repeat visitor, even if it's your first visit. They genuinely care about yourself and your pet. The vet provided me with multiple treatment options to pick that would suit my doggy well and was very informative with each choice. Absolutely fantastic! Everyone there loves animals which is great. We adopted a puppy from LHS and needed puppy shots. Dr. Lane diagnosed a few other problems which were easily treated. I have been trusting the care of my 3 pedigree cats (2 Ragdolls and a Siamese) and German Shepherd dog to Dr. Lane and the excellent staff at Ridgewood Animal Hospital since we moved to Forest 3 years ago and have only the highest praise for them. They handle my pets with the same gentleness and respect that I do and it's very easy to see that they love their work and honestly care about animals. I appreciate that Dr. Lane listens first to my description of any new issues and then provides me with his expert opinion on diagnoses and recommended treatment options. He also takes the time to fully answer my questions and discuss alternative treatments. And, I very much appreciate that appointments are scheduled so that time in the waiting room is minimal: it's rare that my cats have had to share the waiting room with dogs or even other cats.
