This was a new spot for us to try out. It is my 7th time camping this year. We found it returning from a camping spot in Idyllwild in September. Reservations are easy. The staff is helpful and friendly. The lake is very large, non contact, but you can rent boats and things to go out on the lake. There are ducks and other birds on the water. There are individual camp sites, group camp sites, RV camp sites. Quiet hours are 10 pm - 8 am. People were respectful and quiet after 10 pm, some of the birds not so much. There are basketball courts, volleyball courts, a walking path, and other things to do. You are nestled in the mountains providing a scenic backdrop. Check out my photos. Check your gear and the weather and be prepared for cold temperatures. Good spot to try for camping if you have not already.

I've been up to Lake Hemet numerous times for tent camping with the same group of families and friends back in the early 2000's and went countless times for the free shoreline fishing from my late teens years to up when I had kids of my own. This last weekend I booked the Woodlands #24 mobile home for two nights, wow! It had more than everything I needed, plus all the staff were amazing! From back when I first booked and needed to change dates (multiple times) the staff were not only able to do it but seemed delighted to. Thank you Lake Hemet staff

Caught this 3.1 pounder lighting trout on an orange mice tail !!

Got home yesterday after another GREAT weekend at lake Hemet ! Pretty sure this is now my favorite lake and can't wait to go back in the summer time. Had a great time and all staff were once again super cool and pleasant to interact with. Was super excited to see my favorite bird swoop down and pick a trout from the lake surface and fly back to its nest.

Lake Hemet in a man made lake in the San Jacinto Mountains close by Idyllwild...Very quiet camp ground/tent site. The lake itself is gorgeous and not crowded in time of our arrival...it was lil bit cold...You cant swim un the water but you can go for fishing. The road to get there was so beautiful. There was a family that came for a picnic but we were there for a short stop and enjoying the beautiful nature....So relaxing!

    Fun

Edd made our lake day easy and stress-free. The boat was clean and well-maintained, and he explained everything clearly before we headed out. We didn't catch any fish, but we made great family memories -- and that's what counts. Would absolutely book with him again. Thank you Edd

I'm generally a tent camper, but I'm getting older and I thought I'd splurge on a cabin. It was so nice. Clean and well maintained, dedicated bathroom and shower, and with a nice view of the lake. All the host staff were friendly and helpful. I spent my time enjoying myself, with far less set up and tear down. Definitely relaxing. Ted H.

It's was beautiful and very quiet. I did think our spot would have been all campers but we were in the middle of the full time residents which was fine. We rented a boat and it was so nice the staff were all very helpful and always smiling. The Market has the best ice cream and rootbeer float is a must have. Lots of shade and beautiful scenery! It was our first time and I'm sure we will be back.

The views are stunning. We tent camped two night in the middle of January. We typically desert camp, so this was a change. Woke up in 27* weather with everything frozen although the weather app showed low of 49*... so prepare for unexpected temps during your stay! I captured the most amazing photos of it all. We even drove down the road a bit to the Ramona Trail - beautiful hike! Will return again - but maybe this time in the spring when it's warmer ;) There is NO cell service - you can get WiFi at their market at the entrance ONLY.

Early AM and mid-day. Suicide Rock in Idyllwild.

Very clean, nice staff, well maintained. Go mid-week like we did. Weekend way too crowded. Great access to hiking and the town of Idyllwild. Only bummer is algae buildup which keeps people out of the water. Fishing can be pretty decent early morning and around sunset. I was pleasantly surprised.

I wish I could give more stars. We hosted my Father In Laws memorial here over the weekend, we cannot express our gratitude for Kaitlynn & Arianna who went over the moon to make access & enjoyment for our guests as easy as possible. We were overwhelmed by their kindness & could not have had a better time celebrating the life of my father in law. 1000000000000000000 stars.

Lake Hemet is a great campground. The lake was nice and clean and the fish were biting. The only thing I would say is if you're camping there in a RV and choose bear campground Make sure you check your hook ups. The dumps are really far in 332 and 333. We had to dump in another site that family members were using. 333 had its dump on a bad incline so dumping was just not possible it just ran back even while raising the hose just not practical for a full hook up site unfortunately. That was the only downside of the trip. 4.5 is the best I would give due to this issue. Staff were great and public restrooms were clean. 332 on the map shows empty on the side of it but there is a living quarters for someone there, so if that's an issue for you do not book that spot. I would definitely come back but unfortunately not to the spot I had. I loved it but the dump was a big inconvenience for a full hook up site. Ps get the Turkey Sandwich from the store you won't be disappointed!

This was such an awesome family trip! We enjoyed every second here. It was our first time camping, and with 3 small children we were a little nervous. But this place is absolutely perfect for kids. The splash pad was excellent. The volleyball and basketball courts kept them busy, and the lake was beyond gorgeous. The staff were friendly and welcoming. We can't wait to visit again.

    Beautiful trees.

The lake is for fishing or overnight camping. Not really a day visit place. I stayed 30 minutes.

Ask the Community - Lake Hemet

When selecting my campsite, I would like to see a picture of it, I am not seeing that on the map of the campgrounds, only minimal detaiils, Is there a place to see the sites? We tried today to go in & look at them and were told it was $25 to enter.

Yikes!! We went there and never had to pay. I can tell you 325,326 or really any of the 300's are awesome most sites have enough trees for shade. We do use our Easy-up and only have stayed in that area with our trailer. All spaces are big we go with… Read more

Hello, Is there a bathroom and shower facilities?

Hello! Yes, there are bathrooms and showers available and the hot water is HOT! They clean and stock the bathrooms and showers regularly too.

Are there any Full or Premium hookup sites that would allow 1 tent also?

Thank you for your question! All of our RV sites with full hook-ups are NOT able to have tents on them because they have shallow, underground utilities. So sorry.

Does anyone know how to get ahold of someone at the site? I've been emailing, calling the general # and even calling other extensions to be transferred since Monday, but I've gotten no response to any of my messages :(

Difficult always to get an answer at Lake Hemet. Eventually some one will call back. Not a big fan of the new owners and management.

Is there any internet services in lake hemet?

The only phone carrier without cell service to our area is T-Mobile. There is no public WiFi at Lake Hemet so without cell coverage you would not have internet.

This campground has power outlet? And woods available for camp fire?? Or we need to bring it?

There are different rental options which include cabins which are equipped with power or a campsite which does not include any form of power. Either way, the campground offers various amenities to enhance your stay. As for the camp fire, we… Read more

Is there extra parking for people who go camping but take more than one car?

Yes! Guests are permitted to have one vehicle on their site for free. The second vehicle on their site is $25 per night. Any additional vehicles can be parked in our overflow parking lot for $15 per night.

Do the sites have a grill as well as a fire pit?

No, but our friends took a metal grill that was 32" long that fit across the fir pit and we used it to cook steaks. We took firewood with us as the market was closed for renovation.

Is there dumping spot onsite and are they free for RV's that dry camped?

Yes there is a dump spot once you enter. Yes it is included.

What if we have/need more than 2 tents per lot and more than 2 cars? Are there other spots where we can park our cars?

You will need to rent two spots or more.

Is there a table and a fire pit in every camp site?

Hi Paulina. Yes the campsites at Lake Hemet have a table and fire pit in the sites.

Are you allowed to use Stand Up Paddle board in the Lake?

Not sure but I have never seen them there. Only kayaks and boats

Where can I buy the year pass?

You can purchase an annual day use and launch pass at the kiosk gate entrance

Can you rent fishing poles? Can you pay to have your fish cleaned?

You can rent fishing poles at the marina but you can not pay to have your fish cleaned.

Besides the water park area, can you swim in the lake?

No, the lake is primarily a no body contact lake.

How many people do the cabins sleep?

The cabins sleep 6 people. There are 2 full size bunks in the back room sleeping quarters and the sofa bed pulls out to a queen size bed.

Has anyone stayed in the new "glamping" cabins? if so, how are the shared bathrooms? TIA!

I am representing Lake Hemet. Full-service bathrooms and showers exclusive for cabin renters are just a few steps away outside your cabin. There are other restrooms available for campers and RVers. Hope that helps and we hope to see you at Lake Hemet… Read more

Are there bears and/or mountain lions and coyotes?

Yes most likely there are mountain lions and coyotes in the surrounding mountains but we haven't seen one at or near Lake Hemet. If a mountain lion was spotted in the area, we'd post a notice about it at the entrance of the park. Hope that helps and… Read more

If you are going for the waterpark do you have to pay an entry fee beyond the 15/person? Do you have to pay the Day Use fee per car of $25 PLUS 15/person?

Yes. The day use fee is $25 per vehicle. If you want to use the water park and swim beach it's an additional $15 per person. Hope to see you soon!

Is there anywhere to rent jet skis? Or if it's even allowed on the lake?

I dont think they are allowed and i know they dont rent them.

The camp sites looked nice and they have 2 restrooms, no showers though. Marion Mountain Trail to San Jacinto Peak hiked Sunday November 2, 2014 Parking: there is a dirt parking lot right across from the trail head. I drive a Mazda 6, so I was having some difficulty getting in and out of the lot. The ground is really uneven, I couldn't drive out the same way I drove in. My back tires were spinning out, so I had to go through another spot to get back to the pavement. The campground is only a quarter of a mile away and we used the restrooms before we hit the trail. Trail Head: There is a good sign stating the start of Marion Mountain Trail. You can also access this trail at the campgrounds because you have to swing that way to stay on the trail. We went up the trail head next to the dirt lot and came back down through the campground and took the paved road back to the car. The Trail: As stated before the trail first veers left towards the campground, you can spot a water tank thing to the left, you keep going up from there. As you keep going up, you pass a few things, a meadow of low plants, I'm not too sure what kind of plants they were but because it's fall they were a pretty yellow. Then you come across giant boulders on the left in which you get a clearing to see all the trees and the valley. Gorgeous views. The 1st trail Marion crisscrosses with is Seven Pines, just keep going straight. Next sign you will pass is the PCT aka Fuller Ridge Trail, go pass that as well. Next thing you will come upon is the Little Round Valley Campsite. They actually have a port-a-potty here. Definitely no toilet paper, but a cool area to look around. At Little Round Valley, a man told us it took him about an hour to get to the peak from there. We estimated it took us 1 hour and 40 min, we were slow hikers, especially with the snow and trail conditions. It says it's 1.3 miles to the peak from there. Next trail sign you cross is the 0.3 mile sign to the Peak. You know you're pretty much to the peak once you see the little house. If you have time take a look inside the house, it's pretty cool with 4 bunk beds, and extra food and water available for anyone to take left my previous hikers who brought too much supplies. From the house, you scale boulders and rocks to the peak, there's not a real direct trail or marked trail for that matter from the house. It took us 8 hours to reach the summit. Because we did this hike daylight savings weekend, and with the shorter days, we hiked the last 3 hours in the dark with head lamps. I would recommend doing this hike during the summer when days are longer. The views were definitely amazing though day after a storm with snow covered trails. Do your research before hitting the trails and be prepared! Everywhere online it says this trail is 12 miles round trip, we were at the peak the trail was 18 miles. I'm not too sure which is correct, it took us 13 hours to complete with lots of breaks in between. Loved this hike! It was absolutely beautiful!

I enjoyed four peaceful days there, and, surprisingly, there were never more than three campers present. The other visitors were all gray-haired, which contributed to the serenity--there were no barking dogs, loud generators, music, or screaming kids. I spoke with some long-time campers who advised against visiting during holiday weekends and summer; they warned that it can turn chaotic. Marion Mountain, built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s, exudes character and has a relaxed atmosphere that is not geared for partying, although some attempt to make it so. This campground strictly allows only tent camping and very small teardrop trailers or camper vans; RVs and fifth-wheelers are not permitted. The upper loop (sites 1-5) is great for van or tent camping, but parking is limited to one car/van per site, with no extra parking available. This restriction minimizes the flow of day hikers and keeps the campground tranquil. The inside loop features flatter ground for pitching tents, but it does come with close campsites, reducing privacy since the road rings around sites six through ten, which require a short walk to access. On the lower loop, the outside sites are sloped, and you also need to walk to them. The interior sites here are flat but closely packed, creating a cramped environment. I rated this campground one star for weekends and holidays, but it earns five stars on weekdays and in the shoulder seasons. I would absolutely return, but definitely not on weekends! If I want to hear screaming kids and barking dogs, I can just visit my grandkids. If you value a peaceful camping experience, choose your timing wisely!

It's literally two minutes from a gas station and less than 10 from a super cute village center with restaurants, cafes, hardware store, and a grocery store. I will say communication is different here than other thousand trails sites. Other sites we've been to send us updates via text but here is more word of mouth or calling in. The BEST thing about this site is the people who work here. They are so kind, informative, and friendly. We've been up here in the snow all week and the work and care the whole staff has taken to ensure everyone's safety has been clearly evident. We've been here late summer and felt the same way, very comfortable and peaceful. And on a note of the other reviews don't blame the park for disruptive people. There's those kinds of people EVERYWHERE, and for those of us who have worked in customer service we know sometimes there's only so much you can do. Second if you have a complaint about thousand trails as a COMPANY don't leave that review on a PARKS Yelp, they don't control the website or TT customer service lines. And lastly yes most spots are only electric and water, but that's why you have a map, and please why do you expect to park your RV on a MOUNTAIN and complain about level sites, that makes no sense. Come equipped with leveling blocks.
