I stayed here for my 31st birthday at the end of April and had a blast. I arranged everything about 1.5 months before with Cathy, one of the rental ladies on-site who lives there part-time and she was very friendly and helpful. I'm from Roanoke originally so SML has always been a place I've loved. Bernard's Landing is nice and secluded but has a very nice on-site restaurant, the grounds are well-maintained, and the gym, sauna, racquetball courts and indoor pool are all very nice and well-kept. We rented a 1-bedroom condo but because they weren't busy we were upgraded to a larger one right on the water for my birthday which was nice. We stayed for 4 days and really just enjoyed the peaceful lake life - it was very relaxing and quiet. We had a nice dinner the night before my birthday at The Landing where I had some yummy seared Ahi Tuna and a large pear salad with house-made vinaigrette. Our service was excellent and their menu offered some very yummy options. We drove about 15 minutes to Bridgewater Marina for lunch one day and rented jet skis. They operate rentals from Bernard's landing but don't begin that until later in the season - around May 15th I believe they told me. Very nearby is a Mexican place called Crazy Horse I think.... we weren't expecting much but it was very nice with a water view off their outdoor patio and fresh food with excellent service. They're building up the neighborhoods surrounding Bernard's Landing with several nice developments so I suspect traffic will pick up considerably once they finish the 100-200 houses that might be going in. We will def. come back and might make it a birthday tradition.

This place is pretty laid back. Great place for a fishing trip or boating weekend. There is a boat dock right in front, along with some picnic tables and lounge chairs to enjoy the view. Rooms are cute and comfortably decorated. Mini frig and microwave. Bathroom was quite large, but vanity was way too small for any useful purpose than simply a sink. Also, beware of floor and shower area, as it can be quite slippery when wet. No hair dryers, so bring one if needed. The price was reasonable, but the view was priceless. Relaxing and cozy. We would stay here again if in the area.

The building is narrow, so the rooms open on to both sides, east and west. That meant a bright sunny room in the morning, which is great if you are there for early fishing. There's also water on 3 sides, so you get a great view of the lake. There is a microwave, frige, and coffee maker, which is helpful because the nearest anything is 2 miles away. This is also one of the very few places around the lake that isn't a condo or long-term rental.

Poor Management, Customer Service and Property upkeep We…read morestayed at this property for three nights 6/17/21-6/20/21 and paid in full $1,201 for a two-bedroom unit. The unit we were given (#214) had been poorly maintained with a refrigerator that would not cool on the lowest temperature setting, a bedroom mattress that would sink one foot as you sat on it and patio furniture that was coming apart. My 2-year-old boy got onto a patio chair and the cushion sank to the floor and the back gave out in pieces. We reported the problem to the front desk, but they charged us three days after the departure $156. When I called to resolve the problem with Matthew, the manager, he basically said he did not care what had happened and he was going to charge us anyways. In response, I said I will dispute the charges and will never have us or the group of 6 families we came with ever stay at this property again, he again ignored the plea to work with me. So, I am leaving this review for anyone who considers staying here and working with a management team who does not value their customer base. They should remove the name "Hospitality" from their name.

Since Rocky Mount is just a small Virginia town, there aren't any other hotels or motels to choose from other than a smattering of expensive bed & breakfasts, so I guess we were lucky to have found a place to sleep at all. But they all do require an additional payment, some of which definitely gets a bit pricey. But it is a stunningly beautiful area with lots do to. The tennis court, lazy river and pool was free with our visit so that was nice to try and explore. There are limited food options that are inexpensive without driving a bit (driving anywhere is a bit hard as the valet can sometimes take up to an hour to bring out the car for some reason at times and you are not allowed to park yourself). Overall, great stay, but do prepare that your wallet may be a bit damaged.

We enjoyed walking around and seeing the families making s'mores and kids rolling down the grass hill. * spectacular banquet facilities for amazing weddings. * fun front porch traditions. What wasn't as great * extra charges add up. Valet parking, daily resort fees, charge for hiking (guide required) and adult pool (but family pool free) * small bathroom, with only a shower. * limited accommodation for late checkout. Luckily, our select guest status allowed our request to be accommodated, but before I mentioned that, the request was denied with such quickness that it seemed routine to do so. If you are looking for a luxury family resort vacation is southwestern Virginia, or love historic properties, you'll likely love the Homestead. If you prefer a more modern experience without add on expenses, it may not be right.

Operated under the Hilton brand, the hotel is currently owned by Virginia Tech. The mammoth facility has a Conference Center suitable for hosting large conventions, including banquet rooms, meeting rooms and guest rooms. Hotel Roanoke was the site of a large convention that I was a part of for many years. Serving as Vice Convention Chair for several years, I found the staff extremely easy to work with in both the planning and the event itself. Serving as Convention Pianist prior to that I found the pianos well tuned and positioned as requested. Checking in was easy even with the large amount of arriving guests. A special check in desk was available for Hilton Honors members, along with the appropriate amenities provided. Guest rooms were comfortable and roomy. Banquet meals were excellent and as requested. Dining was also available in different areas for meals not in the Conference Center. Check out for large groups was handled well. The years that I served as State Treasurer, the Convention billing was detailed and handled with efficiency, allowing both myself and the Finance Chairman to assure its accuracy. Should you visit Roanoke either a stay or visit to Hotel Roanoke is a must.
