I booked about a month in advance for rental on Saturday from 11am-7pm. My rental for a 12 seater was $484 after taxes and fees and then $13 for gas at the end. The boat was large with half shaded and half in the sun. There was ample storage space for coolers and personal items. There's also a Bluetooth speaker that worked perfectly that we used to play music all day. Be sure to bring a cooler, trash bags, and a phone charger. They came in handy! They also have half day rentals and lower fares during off season. Be sure to take the online safety course before you arrive so you can do a quick safety review and boat walk through(we videotaped ours) before heading out. The staff were very helpful for any questions or suggestions on where to go.

I was searching online for a good beginner sloop and fell in live with the Catalina 22. I came across this company's website in my search and saw that they had 4 or 5 ranging from $2500-$5800, which was perfect for my budget. The one I was most interested in had 87 pictures posted online with about every view imaginable (before cleanup and after). Since the lot was 60 miles from me, I was glad to get such a comprehensive look at the boat before making the trip. I emailed them and received a response the same day from Tiffany. We made a trip out there to walk around and look around. We got eaten alive by Mosquitos because of all the recent rain and all the cockpits that had standing water in them. Welcome to Georgia! Didn't make any decisions that day but got a good feel for what was available. A few days later, I noticed the price was reduced. I talked to Shane who told me they were going to pave the lot and wanted to clear some of the inventory. The price was perfect for the condition of the boat now. We put a 2% deposit down over the phone and made another trip out a few days later. On our second trip we came a bit more prepared with umbrellas, bug repellant and a pickup truck to tow. I spent hours looking at the photos and already knew the condition of the boat. Took a quick look around when we got there to make sure the hatches and pop top worked correctly, found the rudder down below and inspected the trailer to make sure she was ready for the highway. She was dirty, so we wiped her down in spots to see how stubborn the dirt would be and could see she was still a beauty underneath a light film. Brian (I think) even helped us make sure the mast was lashed well for transport and helped us hook her up to the truck. There were no surprises in check out, no sneaky fees, and everything about the boat matched the detailed online description. Off we went! When we got her to dry storage we did find a couple surprises though. We found out she had not only her mainsail and jib, but a genoa, a spinnaker and a wind scoop. Extra bonus! We also discover the trailer lights are fairly new and we got the extendable trailer which makes it easier to launch since she needs a lot of water to come off the trailer with a solid cast iron swing keel under her. The only disappointment we found was that her boom was missing, but we didn't feel this was the seller's fault since they gave us all the time we wanted to crawl around and check everything. They even held umbrellas over our heads as we climbed around and inspected. I'm new to sailing and just didn't notice it wasn't there in the mix of all the stuff stored down below. I've already located a couple used booms from parted out Catalina 22's or I can buy a brand new one for $350. Just not that big a deal for me. All in all, I would absolutely recommend Lanier Marine to someone looking for a project boat, or light work restoration. If you're new to boats, bring a marine surveyor or experienced boater with you to inspect the boat thoroughly. If your looking for a brand new shiny boat, though, this isn't the place for you. I think with the nearly ready to sail condition (minor work needed), extendable trailer, and extra sails, I got a fantastic deal based on similar condition and age of the same model I've seen from the Catalina 22 National Association. If I'm ever looking for another project after this one, I'll probably look here first. Note: I have 4 stars rather than 5 because of the gravel lot, which they intend to pave soon, and the Mosquitos. Our first trip there ended quickly once we hit our tolerance for mosquito bites. But bring a can of Off and you'll be fine.

We were invited to a weekend out on Lake Lanier on one of Lake Lanier's houseboats. OMG - what a…read moreHUGE DISAPPOINTMENT! Their website proudly professes a $50,000 renovation to each of their 14 houseboats but I can tell you that no matter how much money you spend, if you don't keep it cleaned up it will always look worth a lot less. The walls were covered in a very dark brown paneling that made the boat feel small and cramped. The two upstairs beds (no bedrooms, as the bed went from wall to wall) were on a raised platform with the bed pad sitting on top and the two bedrooms downstairs the bed pad was on the floor. Their were 2 bathrooms, only 1 shower - but it was big enough for two (dirty looking though, icky things on the floor and on the top) and the bathroom floor, you know, around the toilet bottom were guys tend to hit when they miss the actual commode, yellow, brown, slimy, icky icky icky!!! Everywhere I looked the place was scuffed up, dirty, and had so many spiderwebs that I thought they had just decorated early for Halloween! I don't believe these boats actually go through an actual stripped down cleaning!!! When paying $600 a day, you would expect to have the houseboat in the same if not better condition than if you were staying in a hotel room. Right?!!!! There were 6 people in our party and none of us will ever rent again from Lake Lanier Harbor Marina. On Saturday night, the generator went out, we had no lights, no a/c, nothing. We managed to get back to the Harbor expecting to find the "on-call" tech waiting for us as we had put the emergency call in 30 minutes prior to our arrival, but no luck. We must have made 6 phone calls and finally he arrived. I found out that the "on-call" guy lives over an hour away. Wow, great management decision on that one guys! So after a 3 1/2 hour wait, we finally got up and running again, just in time to go to bed as by then we were exhausted, cranky, tired, and hot! The hot tub had crud and dirt swirling around in the bottom of the seats and floor, we didn't want to risk catching anything so we opted not to use it. Based on the money spent, this was the worst weekend get-away ever. Here are their details: All houseboats are complete with sleeping accommodations for 10, full kitchen, living area with entertainment center, bath-and-a-half, central heat and air, gas grill and Jacuzzi and waterslide on the top deck. And they were such great hosts. I met a couple board members and they were very gracious. The view is outstanding from the point. Camping is encouraged and they have lots of room. Their club house if fantastic with an open floor plan, gigantic working fireplace, clean restrooms, and large screen TV that was very important on the day we were there. Football was on all day so between races(and sometimes during) we were able to keep up with out favorite games! I look forward to being there next year!

Lots of unusual junked out shacks in disrepair, next door to the isolated nice residence. I wondered if slip fees subsidised the junky hoarders that seem to abound there. Sad to see such a nice property being run down. Loads of junk boats, rusting metal scraps, and acres of poison ivy. No thanks. Would NOT consider letting our son go to the summer camp they sublet out to. Definitely get a tetanus shot prior to a visit.
