When he learned that I had been to over 100 of them but hadn't been to Green Lakes he urged me to check that one off the list pronto. And you know how that goes: when someone tells you how great something is, that place suddenly starts popping up more and more in your social feeds. Well, after seeing it featured on the socials for I Love NY and NYS Parks, I finally made the trip to Central New York outside of Syracuse (wait, I can call Syracuse "Central New York" on here, right? :) ), and I was not disappointed at all. My visit was early on an October Saturday, and lots of runners and walkers were around. And a fair amount of ducks too. A mostly level 2.5-mile loop around Green Lake and another mile-ish loop around practically adjacent Round Lake (which is also a Registered National Landmark) made for a wonderful morning stroll. I was just walking and taking pictures, but clearly this is a spot where runners meet and get in a workout together. The lakes are beautiful, and, yeah, have an emerald-green glow at times. I'm really glad I made the trip there, and will definitely revisit one day.

But it's a spectacular Park in Syracuse that is the highlight of the inner city SYR area. I like it even more than I like being Onondated by Dating prospects. This wonderful wooded park space is large and gorgeous much like my girlfriend. There are two sections, Upper and Lower, and both are lovely. Definitely the most relaxing place to hang out and people watch during the summer in the inner city area, and bettered only by Onondaga Lake Park (totally different) in the wider region.

There are very scenic outlooks over the lake and over the cliff. The trails are pretty well laid out. Even when it's busy the trails aren't too packed. The facility is nice, the path down to the river is great and the staff were mostly friendly, but the special regulations and a fisherman's inability to take certain species off property when just off property NYS regulations allow otherwise seems pretty ridiculous considering the price. I will say the fishing holes are marked well and the brochure map they provide is nice. The river itself is great! I know they deepened certain holes to encourage fish to linger on property longer, but this comes at a price as well. I encountered so many other fisherman, the water itself felt pressured and fish responded to the tourism. You can still have an amazing day here and everyone should visit at least once. What they have here is really special. My only real gripe is the price, which makes it unreasonable for me to return, when a quarter mile upstream is free public water.

Cooler among the trees still warm and periodic deer flies to annoy but a quiet fresh air walk we truly enjoyed. The return half of the trail follows the lake with several nice lookout spots some with benches and a nice breeze as well. About an hour later we emerged cleaned our shoes at the station to prevent transference of invasive species. Had we seen this before entering would have done the same before entering. We have been going here for many years and always enjoy.

Just did the Cortland Triathlon here at Little York Lake. It is a great place for a calm open water…read moreswim. The surrounding mountains and rolling hills made for a nice bike ride.
