My initial impression was that from a structural standpoint the building is pleasant,easy on the eye and well maintained. There is a variety of plants, shrubs and flowers that adorn the grounds and the lawn is green and well kept. The manner as to how I got to HW of G was somewhat problematic and initially led me to be skeptical of the administration. This, I later came to understand was due to the way I had been treated by the nursing home I was coming from. However, after talking with the administration and with the addition of time I have come to appreciate that there is genuine caring taking place with most of the staff. Additionally, I have the opportunity to be in close contact with this current administration and find them eager to elicit feedback from residents in order to be more proactive in making changes to further enhance the quality of life at HW of G. Furthermore, I find the caring to be genuine and not merely a perfunctory process. In terms of the range of resident pool, there exist a wide gap: black, white, brown multi nationally and all coexist in harmony. The population is overwhelmingly Christian. There are some staff who are curious and seek to learn about other cultures. I, for instance, am a Jew. Gurnee provides little in the way of cultural support. So, If you are an observant Jew, Gurnee is not the place you want to be. HW of G has its own bus and there are multiple outing each month. Thus, you can go food shopping, eat out or perhaps go to a movie. Additionally, there are computers readily available for use 24hrs. a day. In summary, while HW of G would not have been my first choice of living arrangements, the time spent here has afforded me friendships I hold dear and memories I will not soon forget.

It has been hard with COVID not being able to see my mom. I had some concerns about her, I was…read moreable to call and have her looked at, the CNA took her vitals which were great. but she still was not well. When I had her sent to the hospital her CO2 level was high due to COPD. The vitals that they take cannot tell the CO2 levels. The head nurse has called several times to ensure that everyone is on the same page and to check on my mom while she was in the hospital. They will be doing weekly blood draws to ensure her levels do not get that high again. I gave the 4 stars. While they are very responsive after the fact, I did have some trouble getting them to send her to the hospital in the first place, as there is problem with their phones. I was leaving voicemails for a person that was on vacation and no one checked it. It was not until I asked to speak to someone directly did they get to hear my concerns.

When were referred to Shepherd Premier Senior Living in Gurnee we looked at their website and met via video conference (due to Covid) with the owners and nurse we thought it was too good to be true. It seemed like the perfect place for my mom with high staff to resident numbers and a home like environment. From the move in day on the staff has been incredible and kind, my mother is very happy there and the environment has helped her recover from her past bad experiences. I am thankful that Shepherd exists and had room for my mother at their facility. You can trust the people at Shepherd to take great care of a loved one.

The Sunrise staff truly excel at ensuring the well-being of their residents. They go above and beyond to meet the community's needs. The facility is well maintained, vibrant (even amidst challenging Covid conditions where they had to think creatively to offer group activities), and the management staff is active, visible, and engaged in the day-to-day community operations. After close to two years of frustration, numerous meetings and not seeing any changes I met with Sunrise. I decided to move my mom to sunrise even though we were in the middle of COVID. If was the best thing I ever did. Not just according to me but also according to my mom. Sunrise has it dialed in and all the things that used to frustrate me are gone. The CNA,s have spent time getting to know her. My mom says she feels like they really take an interest in getting to know her. My advise to anyone who is looking for assisted living in the area, don't be fooled by the shiny penny. It is the concern and care for the family member that is most important. As for the billing staff, I am being charged for what they call an "incontent" package. As they explained diapers which I never used. Also, they bill you to rent the wheelchairs. Terrible management. After 2 weeks they wanted me to leave because I was non weight bearing. I did not even live in the state of IL and Michelle basically said sorry we are not a hotel. You can come back when you are able to walk. They billed me over 12,000 for 4 weeks stay and are still trying to bill me for things I never used. She was under the care of Journey Hospice in the Victory Lakes rehabilitation building. The facilities are well run, very clean, and the grounds are beautiful. The staff that we worked with couldn't have been more accommodating and caring during our delicate situation. My family and I have nothing but positive things to say about The Village at Victory Lakes and Journey Hospice care.

The manager was very rude, just plain nasty. She kept saying things like, I'm running a business here and asking questions and getting mad when we did not have the answers she wanted to hear. The location at 3305 Sunset Ave, in Waukegan, IL has undergone major significant transformation…read more The new board of directors / Condo Association and live in onsite property manager, who has contributed greatly to every life-safety issue, and the building infrastructure has improved the everyday lives of the shared senior community. With the introduction to the new property Manager in 2021 The previous elevator issues are long gone, there has been upgraded maintenance as well as the replacement of the elevator maintenance company. My family and my parents feel very safe there. Snow and Ice removal has been greatly attended to. I must say, the current Condo Association with the new property manager has improved the building over the past two years greatly in more ways I care to mention. You just see and feel it. I like it there now. Especially with the summer emerging and the likely possibility of the restoration of the swimming pool. More residents actually engage in functions provided by the association and management. Most of them gather and talk in and around the building, at Bingo and or on the newly restored outdoor deck. Previous reviews, from past tenants; have moved away long ago. Nice place to visit and live.

Spoke to management about a week ago about flag etiquette. Five days later the flag was flying at full-mast. When ever I had a question Denise always called me right back. Any problems I had she took control and got them resolved. This is the BEST decision I have made in the care of my father. Give Denise or Tom and call, set up a tour and I know you will feel the same way I do. I can now rest knowing that my dad is in a NICE HAPPY place. I also gained two friends out of it.
