There were several rooms set up like a museum with jerseys, medals, etc on display that were definitely cool to check out. That have a bobsled set up and a luge to check out as well. It's crazy to see how slim and narrow the bobsled is in real life-i can't believe they fit so many people in there! It was free to walk around and a nice way to spend some time on a rainy afternoon.

Open year round. Several walking trails over 25 miles and 3k acres. There's walking and hiking in the summer and snowshoes abs cross country skiing in the winter. Beautiful and peaceful! You have to walk over boards to get past some of the boggy areas, but those were pretty consistent in keeping you out of the water. Lots of deer flies this year, but also a lot of nature to see. Beautiful views from many places along the trail. Most of the hike was sun-dappled with some instances of bright sun, and once I got to the far side of the pond there was a nice breeze. Whoever put all the inclines at the end of the trail is a Sadist.

What is most impressive though is the employees seem genuinely proud to be here and happy to help. Troy delivered our room service from cottage (part of property but not in our building) came in 15 minutes and with a smile. April servicing the 6th floor housekeeping was available, attentive, and lovely. For those who dock their review over the 8% service charge #1 read your bill #2 these people are very good at what they do and deserve more than 8%. I constantly saw employees (non-invasively) cleaning and tidying; one time the elevator opened and one of the staff members in a black blazer was shining the interior elevator stainless steel features. Also impressive is how *every* team member from front desk, to spa, to pool technician, to house keeping, to managers, to wait staff, etc are all exceptional. Food: The View - restaurant attached to property was great for breakfast. Demir was also exceptional, and again seemed genuinely happy to be there. I appreciated how all members of the staff (maître d, owners, servers, busers) were equally present and eager to help. The Cottage - across the street, such a nice cozy spot out of the center of downtown, can really appreciate the view. Amenities: as I said to Tony in the pool/hottub I have no clue how they keep an indoor, warm, wet climate so clean. Zero mold. Zero rotting of the wood items. So impressive. Not a big indoor pool fan but as a mom, I appreciate the joy it brings to kids and families and what a great option to break up your day without needing to leave the property. Decor: the people reviewing negatively about the dated decor cracks me up. I agree there are some carpets and decor features that are dated and as someone who was here just for a wedding sure, not my favorite. But from my convos and observations the bulk of their clientele are repeat customers who adore the traditional and familiar decor. The really neat historic photos & memorabilia also clearly stamp that this IS the vibe they're going for. And nothing is "dated" that negatively impacts your experience; tv, windows, bathroom, kitchenettes, all updated. This place has so much history and families who value their traditions, I appreciate & respect that. And the lobby (here at Christmas time) is absolutely charming. One final note, I read reviews of this place before coming and the managers named 9000x to just tell them the feedback and they'll fix it. Then I checked in and there was a clear and easy to fill out review card. This place clearly wants to please and do right by their customers which I also really respect.

Dined across the street in the more casual dinner option and had breakfast in the Inn. Admired ALL the antiques, art, plants and sculptures. We're it not raining, we surely would have visited each outdoor fire pit. We still managed a walk around the Lake, a walk to the Olympic museum and a nearby hike at Mt. Jo. The walls are paper thin and you hear everything going on in the adjacent rooms. The staff is rather rude to deal with on the phone as well as in person. We come up to Long Lake every February as past of a large group (~100 people) for an extended weekend of Geocaching events around the area and there are only three real options for lodging this time of year in Long Lake ...Shamrock Motel, Adirondack Hotel, and the Quackenbush's Long View Wilderness Lodge (Hotel). We have stayed at all three and The Shamrock falls dead last of the three for us. They charge around the same as the Adirondack, more than the Quackenbush and you get the least amount of amenities of the three. Friends of ours stayed here again this year (this past weekend) and while we stayed at the Quackenbush, we visited our friends here and reconfirmed our decision of why we wouldn't stay here ourselves again. Our friends agreed. Some even changed reservations from here to the Quackenbush. If you have to stay here though, I'd recommend the cabins out back behind the motel. They are a little rough but at least you get some privacy and they have kitchenettes for cooking if you so desire. A bit pricey though for those and only a couple are winterized. There are more available in the Summer. They have free WiFi but signal is only good if you are in a room adjacent to the office or down in one of the cabins. If you are in a room at either end of the motel then signal is very week and prone to dropping off. There is no restaurant or bar onsite like at the other two options.

Simple accommodations fitting to the area. (There are no Hiltons in Long Lake by any means!) Sand beach has lovely dock and swim area providing chairs, sand toys for the kids, rental kayaks, canoes, and motor boats. Beautiful view of mountains, including Owls Head, which proved a challenging hike! Head down to the beach before sunset to watch the sun drop behind the mountains. Cabins all have large decks, some views better than others. Good beds, efficient kitchen with everything we needed to cook a number of meals. Excellent TV with any channels we might want. We did laundry while there, next to a game room with ping pong. Attentive staff work tirelessly maintaining the grounds.

Our family loved the history, the cabin, the incredible scenic views, the Great Room and all the amenities WPC offers. We stayed in the larger Mrs. Coolidge's cabin, the same cabin Grace Coolidge stayed in the summer of 1926 when the camp served as the Summer White House for Calvin Coolidge. We took advantage of the huge living room fireplace and had a beautiful fire everyday for our week stay. The wood is well seasoned and burns nicely. It is charmingly rustic, clean and well appointed. The sofas are comfortable and the cabin had everything we needed. What it didn't have we asked in the office and Voila! they had it on hand. We needed a blender, a different bathtub plug and tape to fix a sled and every time they accommodated our needs. Worth noting: You can sometimes hear the next door neighbors in President's Cabin but it's only from the bedroom and it was nothing that the white noise machine that the camp provided wouldn't take care of. We didn't feel the need to use the machine since it was minimal. The beds were really comfortable and the kitchen well equipped. Complimentary toiletries greeted us in the bathroom and the cabin was always warm and toasty. Our bedroom also had a fireplace and it was quite special to fall asleep with the glow of the flames filling the room each night. The upstairs bedroom has two twin beds underneath ceiling windows that give view to the stars and tall trees above (which my twins LOVED). There is also a queen bed behind a folding screen for which my mother in law said was incredibly comfortable and a double bed behind a set of curtains which my son also slept soundly on. Both the upstairs bathroom and downstairs are full baths and have large, deep claw foot tubs with no lack of hot water for a good, long soak. The views from our cabin and from the grounds are absolutely breathtaking. This is a special spot and you can hear a pin drop almost anyplace you hike, walk or sit. We also spent time at nearby Paul Smiths College making use of the gym (passes provided by WPC allowed free access to the gym, pool, library and grounds) and also at the VIC at Paul Smiths for snowshoeing and hiking (again, free with passes) My kids enjoyed bowling in the antique bowling alley and playing pool while Mom, Dad & Grandma sat by the fire in yet another huge fireplace. They sledding everyday on the grounds behind the Great Room and had a blast. Afterwards, they went inside the Great Room and made themselves a hot cocca on the Kerig machine (overseen by Grandma), provided for guests (we bought the pods by mistake thinking they were pouches from Aldi in Saranac Lake but WPC provides coffee and tea for the Kerig for guests). We sat by yet another huge fireplace in the Great Room while reading and playing chess. Yes, there is internet but often sketchy at times since we were deep in the woods, which for us, was desirable. When my husband needed to catch up on work and needed a dependable internet connection, he just popped down the road to the Paul Smiths Library which he viewed as an adjunct office. The same as President Coolidge did in 1926 as I learned from reading a book by Howard Kirschenbaum from the cute, little gift shop just off the Great Room. This place is just pure magic. I've never been to a place more quiet and Tim, the innkeeper and the entire staff go above and beyond to maintain this sense of peace and quiet throughout the camp. Cars are parked nearby but not in the main camp and you barely can hear anyone else in camp during your stay. There was 2 foot of snow on the ground for our Thanksgiving stay week and it was delightful to be there in a winter like setting. It was cold but not windy at all and totally fine with layers. The air is clean and crisp and a perfect spots for viewing the stars. We have already booked a return stay for April 2019 for the school holiday week in the same cabin and cannot wait to return. Everything was simply perfect here.

What put this place over the top was the couple that run it. We got such great recommendations on hikes, we ended up doing the Tupper Lake Triad; food, Amado's was delish, and the Raquette River brewery. None of which we had planned on. We thought we would have to drive to Saranac Lake or Lake Placid to hike and eat and enjoy. Brian was a wealth of knowledge and quite proud of all that the Tupper Lake area could offer. Unsurprisingly an outdoor camp feel but well kept insides. The bathroom has 4 hand dryers. Wow for a rural area. Works great for last minute big groups. This center is near Lake Placid which has a USA Olympic Training Center. Another fully equipped rest area seems about 30 miles north. This explains a lot. Must be beautiful but isolating and serene here with the basics and minimal distractions. Also, not a lot of gas in mountainous Adirondacks and no gas at this rest area. I think I saw 1-3 stations on I-87 so far.
