I tried Lake Steam Baths for the first time with my daughter, each part of the experience was phenomenal and affordable.

Finally got to use the whole steam sauna, pool etc. it was fantastic. Steam was a little too hot, but cleaned out the pores ! Facilities were clean and well maintained. My massage was with Mark who gave a very therapeutic massage and I left feeling refreshed and energized. Staff is friendly and helpful. I will go back as soon as I can. read more

The establishment has really been working on sprucing the place up since my last review posted in 2015. I have one and only new complaint - the cafeteria. Prices are pretty steep these days for an egg sandwich, and the kitchen's attitude has sealed the deal for me to eat before I come. Which is sad. I really liked my egg sandwiches. On another positive note, if you want to feel reborn, schedule a massage with Kendra or grab a scrub with Maya! I'm still trying to figure out what happened last night at Lake Steam Baths. I didn't know this was even a thing in this day and age. Expect to be NAKED and ONLY NAKED. Salt scrub will be given by another FULLY naked lady. (I was like, 'wait, what??!!) but my friend got one and said it rocked her world. We all went on a recommendation - no one had been before and I'm pleased to say, despite the 100% departure from today's reality and ANY expectation I may have had, we will definitely go back. I need to bring my mom, she's gonna freaking love it. We got a little "intro to the bath house" by a loyal 3x/week customer in her mid 70's. She Literally COULD NOT HAVE BEEN NICER. We immediately felt more comfortable stripping naked with only a bandage sized towel while she listed off the way things go at LSB. (1. Shower (there is more showering going on here than I have ever seen in any locker room) 2. Steam for as long as you can. Breathe. (Holy crap, this is no small feat) SHOWER -- cool down or you won't be able to do #3.-- Sauna stay as long as you can! Use cold water in buckets to help stay LONGER. SHOWER (AGAIN), then 4) Soak in hot tub. This can be done in a loop on repeat until you literally fall over from your body's newfound noodle-state. My only complaint was a not so subtle "massage" that was amidst several very noisy spa rooms --couldn't relax for that reason in addition to the fact that my therapist had zero intuition or skills for a good massage. She used her elbows and forearms (never her hands) and the pressure was so intense that relaxation was impossible. Most importantly, whatever modesty we may have felt got checked at the door. We didn't care and didn't feel like we were being checked out or that anyone cared. Yay. What's up with this place?? It's like hanging out in Eastern Europe without thought of presentation or modernity. Price point is VALUE VALUE VALUE. Don't expect "spa" -it has no resemblance to any spa I've ever used. I'm so glad I got to experience "Bath House" because in addition to feeling like I was on an adventure, I learned that bodies don't care about posh. Only about wet and dry heat. Rinse. Low key spa with great prices and a comfortable "homey" feel. We were visiting from out of town and needed a little relaxation after a rough conference. We spent several hours trying all their services and left in a much better mood with softer skin and relaxed muscles. The only problem was for a new person who has never experienced this kind of spa before, our tour didn't really explain the "how tos" of it all. We ended up having to ask other patrons who were all incredibly friendly and helpful. Having now experienced a Korean bath and Japanese bath I would say a Russian bath has it's own uniqueness too. I know I'm not the only one who has ventures down Colfax and had a spark of curiosity when passing Lake Steam Baths. I finally said, fuck it, I'm going to find out what this place is all about! LSB is an excellent place to unwind, detox, relax, meditate, just... be. They accommodate to men and women on separate days, so check the schedule online for a time that you will be able to go. You are definitely expected to be fully nude, they have a rule against going into the hot tub with a swimming suit on to control the PH levels. But, if you have any questions, call and speak to Sky, he is very accommodating and friendly, which is how I ended up here! This establishment is TRANS FRIENDLY! Pretty cool, right?! While you're there, I suggest you experience either a salt scrub (first come, first serve. There is a white board in the main bath to sign up), or a massage (schedule with front desk or ahead of time). I opted for an hour massage with Sergio and... holy shit... best valued massage in Denver, hands down! He was incredible, he massaged with intent and focus, and I was legitimately sore the next day (in the best way possible). Rates for massage: 1 hour = $38 1.5 hour = $57. I'd plan to spend half a day here to reap the full benefits. They have a dining area with a full menu to rejuvenate between soaks. read more

Due to COVID.. they have changed hours and structure to gain access to the "bath house". That being said was able to rent the whole place for an hour and a half for Sauna, Steam room, Hot Tub, Cold water plunge and showers. For $100 this is a pretty good deal especially if you bring along 5 friends (6 people max per reservation). This time went by myself to detox and meditate. Compare to other spa's and saunas and it seems like a fair way to go due to the closures and new government regulations. Overall left feeling like it was enough time to satisfy the sauna fix. Facility is pretty clean although would bring flipflops as athletes foot can survive on public floors like these when enough people are barefoot. read more

I've been coming here for 25 years, and let me tell you, if you are looking for a high-end spa please do not come here. But if you are a busy urban woman on a budget who needs R&R at an old school bathhouse look no further! Entry is only $20 for all day/night soaking, eucalyptus sauna, dry sauna, and steamy chill zone, plus $38 hour-long massages! The women and the staff are low-key and easygoing. I've loved most of my massages, but some massage therapists are better than others. And, they even have a cafe that supposedly rocks some great green chili. First time visit during waiting flight to go back Chicago, I'm a big fan of Korean spa and hot tub but this place is dirty and very nasty. They need to renovate. The cleanliness is a big point. Great facility. Been going there 20, almost 25 years now. Must admit when I went that first time I had no idea what I was going into. Leaving after that first experience I knew it had become a lifetime place for me. Not much has changed since I first started going. They have tried to update the decor a bit. It's a bit homemade kitchy for my tastes, but hey it works for the vibe there. I've gotten to know the family that owns it, just a little, since I've been there so often. The same family still owns it that started it years before, just the next generation has taken over, and I hope that this process will continue into the next gen. They truly are one of the nicest, most down to earth people you can imagine. If you ever have any suggestions for the place, mention them, they are open to hearing ideas. They may not implement some, just because it may not be the direction they are going with the business. Turning it into some high-end spa with all the bells and whistles, isn't going to happen, and I'm glad for it. The old world charm is what makes the place. I'm not a hot tub person, so I can't comment on it much, other than the fact when I walk by I will put my hand in, it is always very hot. The other guy clients must like it though, since there is always one or more in it. The dry sauna is huge, probably handle 20-30 easily?? Lots of old wooden bleacher/benches. Various cold water taps in the room so you can dump a bucket of ice cold water over your head, if the mood strikes you. I understand that is very 'Russian bath' style behaviour and design. The steam room is fairly large, I've seen as many as 12 guys in there at once, but usually it's more like 3 or 4. When it is the large crowd, you will be sitting side by side but it's cool, everyone is in there just to relax and soak up the heat. You will sometimes get the guy who wants to chat, but if you tell them you'd rather just veg out, they are respectful and understand. The wet area with the showers and where the scrubs happen is great. I'll hang around in there for quite a while, just relaxing and soaking up all that moisture. The scrubs are a cross between a scrub and a massage. They've had several guys do these over the years, and they have all been good. The locker area is nothing spectacular, but it's a locker room, clean and maintained. It works and that's all you need of it. There is a quiet room when you just want to space out and cool down for a while. There is also a dining area and they have a small kitchen to where they do some sandwiches, drinks, and I believe they even serve beer if you'd want it. The massage rooms are down each of the two hallways. The therapists are great. Talk to the schedule person when booking and be sure to give them a description for the type of massage you like or what you want to get out of it. They will recommend someone that will work for you. I personally think Mike (also manager and runs the front desk), Ruben, Phil, and Chad are some of the better ones. Vol and Sergio were decent as well. The only guys I didn't care for, at least for me, had been Dana and Denny. Though each of these guys had many clients who couldn't say enough about them, so they obviously had something going for them, just wasn't for me. All the therapists listen and will modify their work as you give them input. Don't be afraid to tell them to go deeper, or lighter if you need. They will also work specialty spots if necessary. I had my psoas worked by a couple of the guys before and it was intense but so worth it afterwards. The same goes for the men who handle the scrubs. Communication is key in any good massage or scrub. The clientele have changed a bit over the years, but it's usually just a good group of guys who are there to relax and soak or massage their aches and pains away. I did like it when 15+ years ago, you'd go in and see a crowd all sitting around the dining area and playing cards or chess. You don't get that easy camaraderie as much anymore, but I still meet new people there all the time. Not only have I met several good friends from the place, I've brought many of my existing friends there to enjoy it too. If they upgraded the kitchen to full service again, I think a crowd that hangs out and plays cards/chess could happen again. You will see a variety of ages go there. You can spot the newbie as they are usually trying to use the sheet or towel to cover every inch they can. Once they are there once or twice, they usually become more comfortable with the nudity. It becomes just hanging out with your buddies and having a good time and the fact you aren't covered up doesn't seem to register. You will always find some interesting people there as well. Some straight, some gay, married, single, and from all walks of life, and ethnic groups. Overall great place. Negatives - limited availability days. For me, steam and hot tub temperature too high. I loved my steam bath, salt scrub, massage experience! If Heaven approximates the stress less comfort of this amazing retreat, I hope I get in. Despite some initial embarrassment and the shock of being given a "cover up" roughly the size of a wash cloth, I soon immersed myself in the experience. Several spa "regulars" assured us that along with your clothes, this is the place to shed your cares, forget your troubles, and savor the joy of awakening senses. The building is old, and ( if its steamy walls could speak) might offer us a rather unconventional view of Denver's past, but I was content with the fragrant cleanliness of the place, a super friendly staff( my masseuse and"scrubber were wonderful!) , and an hour long retreat into the strictly legal pleasures of the flesh. My skin was literally singing by the time I left, and I was glad to go to bed early -- utterly refreshed and looking forward to a future Denver trip and another semi- religious experience on Colfax. read more

Some tips they forgot to tell me: 1) You'll get a key going in which is your 'charge' card for your time there as well as open the 5' school locker. Too bad Ladies' Day is only 2 days a week - I really like this place and cant wait for the next time. Mostly quiet (except for the two ladies breaking the solitude around lunch hour) - all you need to do is focus on breathing (the eucalyptus steam), hyrdating (DRINK LOTS OF WATER!), dry-sauna-ing, whirlpooling, lounging and getting an affordable massage. Don't believe ANY of the Negative stuff, You want to pay 4x's as much for just about the same Experience, but with Enya music and snobby attitudes; head to a "spa." This is a Bath House. Having lived in Japan, where public baths are the norm, this was a welcome change form the Boulder-crunchie, high fallutin' snobbery of the modern day "spa." People smile, chat, they remember your name, your preferences. Is it dated? Sure. Is is clean? Absolutely! No creepiness at ALL, just melt into your car at the end of the day utter and total relaxation. Go whole hog if you do it. Let the little old lady scrub you down with the salt. I have, on occasion, fallen asleep as she has done her wonders. You finnish feeling like a new born babe. Get a massage after a marathon soak session, and feel the most relaxed you have EVER felt until now. Got introduced to this place by a couple of friends. They have been raving about it for years. First trip was on a co-ed night. We rotated between the cool down room, sauna, and steam room for about 2 hrs, and I left feeling like a newborn baby lamb! I was barely able to open my eyes I was so relaxed. Steam, Sauna, Soak...repeat This will be my new monthly "me" time place. You can't beat $17 all day admission...plus I received a great massage from Pam for only $32. My girlfriends got salt scrubs for $10 and they couldn't stop raving about them. Yeah, the place is old but so what...it's clean and that's what really should matter to anyone. And yes, women are naked but guess what...if you are a woman my bet is that you have the same body parts...so get over it. The point is not to look at anyone but focus on yourself and get some TLC. Yes, some of the fixtures are a bit out of date. That being said, all of the rest of everything made up for a few older tiles. Firstly, everyone is incredibly friendly. The woman running the front desk (I believe owner/co-owner?) was welcoming and gave me all the info I needed. I also love that their son makes his own jewelery and they sell it up front -- I bought some octopus earrings AND supported his college fund. So cool. They set me up with my towel, giant sheet (for wrapping to hang out in the lunch area, for massage, etc), and scheduled me with a massage therapist who was good at deep tissue. Inside, the facilities were fine - clean, but certainly nothing on the Havana Sauna in Aurora, which is my go to place. Here, there is a VERY hot tub, accessible by outside stairs (not as great for my joints as the type where the stair just go down and in), a cold shower, a moderate sized steam room, and a very large dry sauna with wooden bleachers that reminds me of a cross between a high school gym and something out of Hansel and Gretel. I missed the mid-level hot tub and the cold tub you find in Korean spas (the cold tub is especially great for icing/cooling my arthritis inflammation). That said, the amenities here are phenomenal. You can bring your own meals, or order food there -- even though all I got was a grilled cheese, I LOVED that they had three different rye options. It was delicious, and you just pay for everything on the way out -- they charge you based on your locker number. My massage was wonderful - healing, relaxing and incredibly affordable. The locker room was really nice and offered plenty of space). The price for the amenities was lower than Havana's amenities, while the price for the facilities was on par. It's a further drive for me, but definitely worth mixing it up once in a while for the relaxed and tasty food area, and the lower priced, high quality massage experience. My sister and I spent the morning here and LOVED IT. The steam room is the best I've ever been in, the sauna was hot, with buckets of cold water to spritz yourself with. The whirlpool was sparkling clean and I loved the cold shower at the end. We each had salt scrubs from Jessica and felt so clean and shiny. She was great! Our massages were fabulous - easily the best I've had, including those in four and five star resorts. Anne was so talented and really worked the spots I asked her to. The other patrons were sweet, we met a few ladies who've been coming for over 25 years! The front desk staff was helpful and quite lovely. My best friend comes from a Russian-Jewish family and whenever I'm at their house it's loud, full of stories told in broken english, and smells faintly of some kind of cleaner that isn't the Pine Sol or Murphy's soap my mom ever used. Lake Steam Baths totally reminds me of that, which I love! This place is great...for a certain kind of clientele. Very old school. No fake boobies or women who are organic, vegan, gluten free, pompous buttholes here. The facilities are nothing fancy and neither are the employees or clients. If you are looking for a fancy day spa experience, don't go to Lake Steam Baths. I could see a lady in the shower with a tampon string hanging out of her cooch....you can't be prissy or shy here. This is the place for a good, cheap massage ($30 an hour!) or a mud treatment, salt scrub or reflexology treatment. It's $15 to get into the bath, which is pretty much a big tiled room with naked ladies lounging about, sweating, showering and relaxing in the extremely hot but wonderful tub. There's also a dry sauna that was much more private, but it was too hot for me to stay in there long. If you want a unique experience in Denver, or a relaxing night, Lake Steam Baths is it. I'm definitely planning on returning often, especially when the weather is colder. read more

You have to be completely comfortable being around a LOT of naked old ladies. I was shocked at how comfortable and indifferent they were to themselves and one another. The steam room is very small, as is the hot tub. Sauna is huge, so that was nice. Average age was close to 65....so at 25, I felt very out of place. Not that anyone cared, just my own insecurities. I didn't notice any bad smells or grime, and I was looking. I gave it three stars because I thought that the entrance fee was too high for also getting a massage. I guess I'd go back if it was $10... If you're comfortable walking around with all your junk out, and your grandmas best friends jiggling their junk too, then this is the place to be. Wow, this was an experience for me. Four stars only because our check in experience was a little rushed and the place seemed not super loving of new comers. Whoever posted a review before that basically said, no frills and lots of nudity, was spot on. Everyone is completely naked. There is no optional nakedness here. With that said, the facilities were clean and although I am normally a pretty modest person, I felt mostly comfortable with the nudity. I had a massage by Joceyln - lovely! This lady has worked there since the 80's and she made me feel very comfortable! They have showers, wet and dry sauna, and a hot tub. I also heard rumors of a scrub lady but we never came upon here. Overall, a very relaxing experience that for the right person could easily be added to their weekly or monthly routine. And the price is right! read more

This was a different experience than most places. I went to Lake Steam because i heard about it from a friend and it wasn't what I expected, but it was interesting. It is an old building with very little parking and the facility inside isn't exactly remodeled and new. I wanted to go because you could get a massage, sit in the hot tub, steam or sauna. That was all there and it was really exactly what I wanted and expected. I guess the surprising part was that there were probably 40 guys there and we were all just sitting around with not a stitch on. I don't mean in towels, I mean with nothing on. No big deal-- but I expected more of the "cover up with your towel" situation. When you check in they basically give you a wash cloth and send you on your way. Don't worry, though, after 5 minutes you get totally used to it and can just sit back and enjoy yourself. The massages are good and as well as the price. Everyone is super friendly and the experience was... life changing. There's a sauna room, a steam room, and a whirlpool I think it's called? There's also a place where you can buy food and they have different services, like massages and salt scrubs. I did all of the above. I started off with the steam room, and then the sauna, and the pool. JC was my massage person and she was AMAZING. She does like yoga/Thai massage and it was exactly what I needed. She listened to all of my concerns and knew exactly what to do. After that, I went back to the baths, and then for food!!!! The food was yummy and simple and the people there were sweet :) the patrons are also very friendly. If you wanna do a salt scrub, there's a whiteboard where you sign up. I stayed here for literally.... 5 hours just relaxing and talking and being scrubbed and massaged and I am so very thankful a place like this exists. I would 100% recommend. Lake Steam Baths is definitely a Denver fixture. It has been around since 1924 and I wish I could do a better review. I wanted so badly for this place to be awesome - but it isn't. I have been several times with the hope I would leave feeling relaxed, clean and rejuvenated. Sadly, the atmosphere is drab, not the cleanest place I have ever seen, could use a major overhaul. You wonder when you are there if you may, just catch a disease? I recommended my husband visit one night, when I was still trying to like it. He went on a Friday night and was hit on several times, and propositioned. We are not homophobic, but he wanted to go and have a relaxing experience. We didn't know that Friday night was where gay men go to hook up? So, yes, the 70's are still at play here and there is hanky panky happening, I assure you. We are cool if you want to hook up, but they should alert consumers ahead of time, that it might be a bit sexually explicit. Needless to say, we haven't been back. There are better places to go that are more serene, relaxing and you don't have to encounter sexual exploits while you are trying to take a steam bath. read more

I went here for the first time today and enjoyed it quite a bit! The decor is a bit dated, and it provides no unnecessary thrills. It's defenitly a "rustic" sort of place with a little 1970's kitsch thrown in for good measure. It provides an awesome value for your buck, however, and the steam room in particular was a great experience (it is infused with strong eucalyptus, perfect for stuffy noses and dried out vocal chords). The only thing I truely didn't like was if you get a massage, you have to pay the entrence fee as well. Not the ideal situation if you don't want to spend a lot of time in the steam room/sauna. I like this place but it's not for everyone. Definitely could be cleaner and definitely needs to at least FEEL cleaner. I never got a tour or shown the ropes yet employees didn't have a problem scolding me when I did something that wasn't allowed. Like using my own towel. The fact that nobody wears clothes, including bottoms, and all they give you is one tiny hand towel to sit on or use to wipe your sweaty face...because you don't get one for each so chose well...and then nobody schooled me on any part of anything else. Well...go knowing you might get grossed out by this. They didn't tell me I could pay for a second towel, which I would have HAPPILY done. I didn't even know where the rooms were. Just go knowing you may be thrown to the wolves and you may get grossed out. Other then that...it's nice to sweat. Especially if you have that second towel. read more

This is what my family calls the shvitz. I wish they'd spend some money and have someone come in and paint it and freshen the place up. My only other complaint was the massage therapist I had smelled like smoke and I wish there was a door on the room. read more
