Was able to get back up to Lake Steam Baths while in Denver this week. I've been coming here very sporadically over the last ten years or so. While I've never had any issues with the setting and the staff has always been excellent, I have to say the feel when I walked in this time was exceptional. While couldn't put my finger on any specific changes, all I can say is that there is a much more welcoming, pleasant feel. As always, all of the staff I talked to were great and friendly and everything I was spotlessly clean. I highly recommend Lake Steam Baths, the best Dry Sauna and Steam Room that I've ever experienced. Oh, almost forgot, I tried the dining area for the 1st time on this visit and had a great egg salad sandwich, using that as an indicator, definitely give the diner a try while you are there. read more

I love this place!! To be honest my Mum goes here all the time and for the longest time she kept trying to get me to go. I refused to be naked because I was insecure about my body but now I go and feel comfortable in my skin around women of various shapes and sizes. You can't beat 16 bucks for un-timed use of the vicinity, or a 10 dollar salt scrub that helps you detox even more when sitting in either one of the rooms. The 30 dollar hour massage has got to be the best in my opinion. The women are professional and really helpful, Pam is my favorite though she really got out every pain in my body due to my marathon training. I highly recommend her ^_^ The cafe is awesome as well! The salads are huge and totally worth what you pay for. You get to pick two different types of meat that you would like to have in your salad. There are also sandwiches, soda and beer which I do not recommend that you drink since it dehydrates you and going back into either of the rooms you could possibly get sick or pass out. So sticking with water or soda is best ;) The only thing I have left to say is if you are looking for a spa like the Brown Palace hotel don't go there then. To be honest I've been to the Brown Palace and the Ritz Carlton which are both well known renown spas and neither one compared to Lake Steam Bath. The high class hotel employees were all a little unfriendly and to the point of just business. Lake Steam Bath has a more personal feeling to it. Even though the interior design is old and worn it still holds a "Home Sweet Home" feeling when you walk in the door and the women ask how you are doing and genuinely actually want to know not just get a good tip. I visited Lake Steam on Saturday after 3 months or so of not going...What have I been thinking!? It is a great place to chill and relax. Peaceful and warm for a GREAT detox, even in the heat of this summer the body needs a good detox and this is the placed to do it. Normally my wife and I come together once a month for co-ed Sundays, and I do by myself on men's days in the winter to warm up the bones and forget the cold outside. My wife comes about twice per month in the winter. We love the people that work here, they do treat you like family. I bet anything they are handpicked by Amy, and she picks ONLY the best. The sauna room is REALLY hot and the steam room is great, not too roomy but I bet 10 people can sit in there at once. Last Saturday I sat for a good long time next to where the salt scrubs happen, and although I was already VERY relaxed, I was convinced to get a half hour scrub with Mauricio. Just by watching the dedication, attention and care he puts on every single one of his scrubs he got my attention. He works inexhaustibly, one scrub after the next, almost non-stop!! And let me tell you, it was AMAZING! A totally new experience. He is truly dedicated to making sure that the experience is unique and the ONLY thing I was sorry for was to have picked half an hour instead of an hour or more. After the scrub I didn't just feel relaxed and clean, but I felt energy flowing through me, a sensation that life is good and worth living for, if you haven't experienced that in a long time, it is time to do it!! This guy will scrub your stress and sorrows away haha The only thing I didn't like so much was that I couldn't order any food from the kitchen, it was closed this time. Other than that I sincerely believe that everyone needs to visit Lake Steam at least once a month, every month. Hands down, best place to relax, detox, and enjoy life! If you're looking for a place to relax and rejuvenate yourself: this place is not for you. Yes, it's cheap. Yes, the massage therapists are great and the prices are unbeatable. But I leave this place more stressed out than when I arrive. It's like a hen house full of clucking chickens. Of course it's the regulars and the staff who are in there gabbing like it's happy hour at the bar. What a drag to just want some quite, healing time at the spa and have to listen to everyone complaining (the seniors) or laughing out LOUD and full on conversing like it's a restaurant (the hipsters). Beyond rude for those of us who are paying for a little R&R from this loud, crazy world we live in. I've been going for years (due to location & price) & the owners are golden. Like I mentioned, the therapists are talented, but it's just too damn loud in there for me to ever want to go back. After tonight I remember why it's been so long since my last visit. They were very friendly to a first-timer as I just searched online for a last minute steam/massage day. They helped me feel very welcome and comfortable. I'm working on being comfortable with my body around others and everyone just let me be when I felt like using a towel at times, it's no big deal. I had a last minute massage with Vol, which I really enjoyed. It felt like an old-world experience which I prefer that actually. My only gripe would be the steam room is too small and by the second hour I was there, it was always full and I was unable to use it. Another whirlpool too as that was always full too, but I understand they have limits to their historic space. I loved my time there and will go back again soon. read more

Spa services here are a treat and their staff here are friendly and kind. Lower prices with a relaxing environment. It's a fairly large facility that has many areas to relax in. They supply you with one large massage sheet and a small/medium cotton twist towel. Bring a bath towel if you would like a better drying towel when your done. read more

I love this place! Today was my first time - a pre-birthday treat from me to me - and it was AMAZING! I had the works - hot bath, steam room, hot massage, reflexology, foot detox, salt scrub. Each was wonderful and SO affordable. And the people were all really friendly, both staff and customers. You don't have to be squeamish about being unclothed - the ladies come in all shapes, sizes and ages, and nobody cares how you look. I am so sad that we don't have something like this where I live in NC - I will just have to visit Denver more often. Why is it that I can tell men that I am going to a hot springs and it's a cool, manly kinda thing but when I say I am going to a "bath house" I get a COMPLETELY different reaction? I swear there isn't a sexy thing about this place, unless you are turned on by same-sex bodies that have generally seen a lot more time on this earth than yours (or even mine). It could be different on ladies days, but I have a hard time imagining it. I find this place to be very clean, well maintained, and a fantastic deal! For $15 you get all day use of the facilities, there is a cafe inside, that even serves beer if you should choose. I had the pastrami sandwich, and it was great..fresh and just what I needed after two hours of steaming, soaking or baking in the steam room, hot tub, or dry sauna. There are benches for reclining in the common bathing area, stools in the showers which I find nice, and more eye to eye contact than I've been around in some time. The fellow guests all were polite, and although I stayed to myself, I felt I could have joined any of the conversations that were happening around me. I heard stories of Russian boxers, an Armenian oil tanker captain, a wheat farmer from Ault, and a guy who is a bouncer at a down town club.. The thing I find great about places like this, was the fact that we were all there to find health. To soak away the pain of living, the stresses of the world beyond the walls holding all that blissful hot water. When I can't make it to the hills, to a hot spring, I will go to Lake Steam Baths. When I have a particularly sore back, it is my first choice as it is so convenient. I strongly recommend this for all who love to bathe. I decided to try out Lake Steam Baths after a friend recommended it. I'd never been to a bath house before, and well, it was interesting! I have to admit, at first, I was a little gun shy. I guess I just wasn't quite expecting to see so much nudity. I'm not modest by any means, but when I walked into the main room and saw nekkid women scrubbing down other nekkid women right out in the open, I was a little surprised (before you men let your imaginations run wild, trust me, this ain't the stuff fantasies are made of). After I got over the initial shock, it was actually really quite enjoyable. I steamed for a bit before my massage with Sherry, which was EXCELLENT, and at $32, you definitely can't beat the price. I didn't realize however, that the price of admission was $17...had I known that, I would have planned on staying a bit longer and steaming again, or soaking in the tub. Or hell, maybe even letting some nekkid woman exfoliate me from head to toe. Anyway, this is a NO FRILLS joint...if you're looking for the spa atmosphere, this might not be your place. If you are cool with a super laid back atmosphere and seeing lots of nekkid women of all ages, shapes and sizes strolling around without a care in the world, then, by all means, enjoy! read more

For anyone leaving negative reviews about people being naked, there's this thing called the internet, in which case you could have read about this being a traditional nude steam bath before you arrived. If you talk to the manager, you would also find out that this place is TRADITIONAL steam bath; it is not a fancy spa. This Russian couple built the place by hand early in the last century, laying all the stone and cement themselves! The decor is outdated and ugly, but everything is very clean. Be careful not to confuse ugly with dirty. :-) Non-Americans can more easily see a nude body as anatomy, rather than sexuality. This place is all about hanging out in your natural state with other people, detoxifying, relaxing, socailizing. I love the staff, the very inexpensive massage and salt rubs, but I gave it a 4 until they invest in an aesthetic makeover. It's very much frozen in the late 70s/early 80s motif. Nonetheless, I'll return again and again. This place kept me healthy all through last winter when everyone was getting sick for weeks on end. read more

Been in love with lake steam for years, but, only in the winter! Great place to thaw out, and relax in a hardcore way! I'm not sure what some other reviewers were expecting. It's exactly what it says it is: a bath house. They've got eucalyptus steam, dry sauna, cool showers, hot tub and a lounge. It's all nude and all ages (especially ages over 50). I'm young and I've traveled so the nudity doesn't surprise or offend me. Advice: bring your own towel for after and leave your modesty in your locker. No one there cares what you look like. read more

I want to start by saying I was very nervous before I went and debated going for the longest time just because I didn't really know what to expect.. And truthfully if you have never done it I don't know how to explain it to someone who hasn't experienced it. Basically it is life changing. The staff is over the top friendly. The facility.. Is dated way beyond my years Being 21 I was definitely younger than the vast majority but the woman who came in with me said she has been coming here for longer than I have been alive. I've been going to lake Steam for about a year. Since late autumn I have been almost every saturday. In fact since I missed last saturday for Xmas Eve, I am getting ready to head out today (wednesday) for a nice soak. I am shy, I didn't think I would feel comfortable going. I thought I might be ashamed or stared at. I was worried about the atmosphere. But I was so wrong. The staff and guests are so nice to you and each other. I have never felt anything but welcomed. After a few visits the desk clerk remembered my name. It has been a great experience. I honestly think that my health is better this winter for having been a regular customer. I have asthma and allergies and winter is usually very rough for me. But the steam and the heat seem to make me feel so much better. For $16 dollars its a great value. I had never had a massage before. But with a bad back, I decided to try one. All the same emotional baggage was involved: will I be nervous, will I feel odd about being naked? NOPE! Not at all. I have had several and I have had several of the guys work on me. They have been nothing but professional. Kind, courteous... I would recommend anyone them. But my favorite it Chris. R.. He is AMAZING! The work he does is AWESOME. Last week he did a 90 minutes deep tissue massage for me. I honestly felt like a new person. With the massage and the $16 I pay $6 more than what I pay my chiropractor. So it's well worth it for the amount. The scrubs are GREAT! So comfortable and and warm. You come, you sit, you soak, you chat. You soak some more. You take your time. You relax. Is it the newest, cleanest place? Nope. Is it fancy? Nope. Could there be more amenities? Yep. it's worth every penny you spend. With out a doubt. I always bring a little bag with me. Moisturizer, shampoo, soap. And I always bring a bigger towel so I can dry off at the end. They let you bring in bottled water and such. As long as it's in a plastic bottle. I highly recommend it. It's best to stay hydrated. I hope you have a great visit. I love Lake Steam Baths! I've been going for over 20 years. The place is not new or fancy, but I always feel comfortable, and it's the only place I prefer going to ALONE. I usually get a massage, and most of them have been out of this world great! The massage therapists have been there for ages too (lots of experience!). It continues to be super affordable, and I always have my husband buy me gift certificates. There is a dry heat room, and a steam room w/ Eucalyptus, and a hot tub, plus showers, and areas to relax. You'll need to get over any self conscious issues, because no one cares about seeing your body! :) There are women of all ages, shapes, colors, and sizes, and everyone is just happy to have this place as a retreat. In recent years it has been updated to look a little prettier inside (nice!) I've barely had the food. But I'm sure I could find something if I needed to... I made my first visit here today and have to give it 5 stars. I knew from the previous reviews that this isn't the newest, shiniest place, but it was quaint and authentic to its roots. The staff was amazingly friendly and helpful. I had reflexology that was exactly what I needed and a seaweed scrub that was the icing on the cake. Mix in the steam, sauna and hot tub and the afternoon was perfect. I'll definitely be making this a regular thing I do for myself! read more

I've been coming here for about 20 years. This place is part of my life. I htink it could be a little intimidating for a first timer but persevere and you'll be rewarded with a relaxing little oasis for your much needed me time. I've been to fancier spas, the korean spas in LA kill this one dead, but this is the one I call home. for under $90 you can gain admission to the baths, get a salt scrub, eat a light meal, have a 1 1/2 hour massage and tip well. I don't even know where to begin with how bad this experience was. First and foremost, The place is dirtier than any spa or even gym I've ever been to. The lady told me this place is 90 years old, and it really looks like it; The carpet is filthy and everything is covered in dust. I had to use the restroom, and the toilet was only hidden by a curtain in the hallway. In order to keep privacy between the locker room and the spa room, The glass was covered with tinfoil and duct tape. When we asked for a towel to use, they told us we use the bedsheet that they gave us to walk between rooms, from the massage room, a literal bed sheet. When sitting in the Jacuzzi looking up, the ceiling is filthy and covered in water droplets that continually drip on you while you're sitting there. Also while sitting in the Jacuzzi, we noticed in the other corner of the room all of the mopping and cleaning supplies and hoses were sitting there on the floor. Lastly, while we were checking out we noticed a sign at the front counter stating: "If you have old tiles sitting in your garage please donate them to us so we can fix up our spa room you'll be a part of this place forever". I wish we took pictures of all of this so you could laugh along with us... this place is the absolute definition of getting what you pay for only it's not worth anything we paid not even the $38 for a massage. I almost forgot to mention that we also thought we were getting a deal by renting out the spa room for $100 for 90 minutes, but we ended up leaving after 20 minutes because the place was so disgusting. How anyone has ever rated this place anything above a one star absolutely baffles me. read more

Love this place. Sure, a few gripes -- hours could be even better, a cold plunge would be nice, so would a dry sauna. But this is so much better than anywhere else in town, especially that horrible spot on South Havana where the steam room is actually cold! But the major criticism is that the Lake is not big enough to accommodate two sides at once, open at all times. And it's too bad this is not in one of the countries where mixed nude bathing is allowed. In Northern Germany such places are all over the Baltic Coast, kids to grandparents and three kinds of sauna. And that reminds me: what's with all of the reviewers squicking out at nudity, or making like it's a notable issue that doesn't really bother them? Very nice staff. Comfortable atmosphere once you get used to the nudity. Everyone is very nice and every service they offer is just to help detox. We were scrubbed down in front of each other with soap and salt. The sauna was amazing. Very large and cold buckets to pour over yourself when you get too hot. The steam room was very realizing and the eucalyptus oils in the room gave a nice relaxing and rejuvenating feeling. The massages were great and prices were wonderful! They have a bathing area to shower, steam, sauna, and whirlpool your worries away. After marinating my muscles, I got an excellent scrub down from Jessica and massage from Trinity! Once you get over the fact that yes, it's a bath house and yes, you're walking around naked with a bunch of other people (come on, folks, you can do it, there's no shame in it, I promise!!!), this place is really great. It absolutely shows its age, but that somehow adds to its charm, too. Coming here is always a special treat, especially so in the winter time - I can spend a couple hours hanging out in the sauna, the steam room, the hot tub, or just the main area relaxing and listening unabashedly to the interesting conversations going on around me. Every time I visit, I leave completely refreshed, feeling great, and sleep like a particularly tired rock that night. I typically go with friends, but I imagine it wouldn't be too bad going alone, either. MAKE SURE YOU BRING A WATER BOTTLE. You will be sweating just about the entire time there, so unless you want to make yourself sick, drinking is important! They also offer pretty cheap massage services. While I have not personally experienced them, I have friends that speak very highly of them (yes, I know it's hearsay, but it's something). read more

I went to Lake Steam for the first time today after months of hemming and hawing and chickening out at the last minute. I'm so glad I finally made it in the door. The building is old. That's a fact, and it's both a selling point and a downfall- you can tell where original fixtures were, and where they remain, and for a person like me, that's pretty cool. Think YMCA swimming pool crossed with a turn-of-the-century hot springs spa. If you're expecting an extremely modern facility, or Korean spa levels of shine, you won't find it here. I went right as they opened on a Monday, and the clientele was mostly seniors who all seemed to know each other. I was issued a very large sheet and a very small towel when I arrived- keep the sheet dry and sit on the towel in the bath area. The vibe of the place is so relaxed- it's family-owned and it feels like it, in the best way. The owners and staff were SO nice and so helpful- I told them it was my first visit and got a quick tour, had the rules explained, and someone even sat down and had a quick chat about halfway through my visit, when I was cooling off in the lounge area. Parking is free, and there's a small deli onsite serving delightfully bizarre deli food (the special the day I went was egg salad on rye, served with "seltzer.") that totally reminds me of my grandparents. One note- bring a water bottle! There's plastic cups available if you forget, but it's so much easier to have your own, and they're allowed back in the baths. Also, don't do what I did and forget to bring any hair appliances, styling products, or whatever you need to leave looking human. You may want to BYO bath towel, as well- you're only given one hand towel, and it'll be wet by the time you leave. The takeaway? A pretty thrifty (though admission does seem to increase every year or so) and extremely relaxing "spa" experience. Be comfortable with nudity, and ready for a no-frills environment. Yelp reviews seem to indicate that the environment can vary between men's and women's days- I can't vouch for the cruiseyness of men's days, but women's are as nonthreatening as can be. Used to be a big fan of this place. It seems like they can never update to look like other spas. They spoke about painting the ceiling to look like cloudscape in my mind I thought something like you'd see in Vegas or at Ameristar something realistic; still not complete and what is complete it's nursery cartoon clouds. I always make time for at least one trip to Lake Steam when I'm in Denver, which is often as my sister lives there. There is nothing like it anywhere else. You can also bring your lunch if you want and the massages and scrubs are exceptional. We spend the better part of a day there. I am no spring chicken (64), and my sister and I are worlds apart in body type, but we both enjoy the freedom and relaxation we experience there. Once we even brought our mother there. She was middle stage Alzheimers at the time and she enjoyed it as well (except in the sauna where she said she couldn't breathe and wanted to "get the hell out of here!") I just wish I could get there more often. I have to rely on memories of the last visit to tide me over until my next trip to Denver. read more
