I've been going to Lake Tahoe Yoga for several months now, and I'm completely hooked. The Monday evening sound bath is absolutely amazing--something I look forward to every week. I'm very confused and disappointed. I'd hoped to find community at this studio, and signed up for an intriguing class. I arrived 15 minutes early to the address listed, and the door was locked. I emailed the studio to ask for help, and rather than simply assisting me, it took three emails to find out where the studio is actually located. It turns out it was another building nearby. I had no idea and legitimately could not find it. The studio said it was my error and refused to refund me, and certainly didn't offer to reschedule my class. I simply can't believe that this is the response I got from a yoga studio. read more

Love the space! We did indoor classes in the studio. The owner, who was our instructor, was very attentive to any injuries or limitations we had. She did an excellent job flowing through movements, giving us alternative movements to accommodate our injuries. We did the balance class using the balance boards. That class is challenging for all levels We haven't done beach yoga yet, but that will be our next adventure! read more

I came here on yet another lovely trip to Tahoe in search for some relaxation. Let me note I have worked out less than a handful of times since my triathlon in August and my muscles have since turned to mush. Fortunately, Jenay understood everyone needs to start somewhere and guided my friends and I through a very calming, beginning yoga session. This was my mother and I's favorite part of our vacation to lake tahoe. The class ended up being just us two and the instructor. Beautiful views of the mountains behind us while practicing. I had friends visiting from out of town and wanted to try something fun and new, so we signed up for the Stand Up Paddle-boarding yoga class. We got up bright and early and met at El Dorado beach. While on shore, we got a quick tutorial of how to maneuver the paddleboard. Once we got the basics down, we headed out into the beautiful blue waters of Lake Tahoe. We were pretty far out from shore, but the water was still shallow enough that it wasn't too intimidating. Our instructor, Jenay, lead us confidently into beginning yoga practice on a paddle board. She was very friendly, informative and stayed within our scope of abilities while giving the option to push ourselves further in practice if we felt comfortable. I fell a couple times into the cold waters, but it was still fun. After our yoga session, she was sweet enough to let us do a mini photoshoot to capture memories of our experience. I'm not much of a paddleboarder, but I love yoga and am glad I got to experience this not so crazy combination. I would gladly take this class again as well as recommend anyone else who is interested! read more

I've been paddle boarding before and I've done yoga numerous times, but put these two together and you get something uber amazing: Stand-Up Paddle Board Yoga!! (aka SUP Yoga) We were up bright & early Saturday morning (8:00am) to give this a go. We met up in El Dorado Beach and was greeted by our instructor, Jenay. It was just my group (party of 3) who showed up so it was really intimate & personable. Paddle boarding and yoga both require balance so adding the fact that you're on the lake (lake = Lake Tahoe) make things very interesting. I'm not a swimmer so I'm very aware of my water abilities. I wanted to be sure we were within shallow water (in case I fell in). Jenay was really sweet and reassured me that we'd be going about 5 ft deep. She's also a great instructor! Depending on each students' yoga/balance abilities, she'll tweek the "lesson plan" to what will work best for all. It also depends on the stillness of the water. If there's a lot of motion in the water (e.g. jet ski/boat driving by) it'll cause waves and make balancing an added challenge, so she'll see what the conditions are on the lake & go from there. We went through the major basic poses such as: - downward dog - upward facing dog - three legged downward facing dog - staff pose - fierce pose - warrior 1 - warrior 2 - open triangle - rotated triangle - half moon pose - standing hand to big toe - boat - child's pose - cobra pose - locust pose - camel pose - shoulder stand - plow pose - corpse pose I had a really great time & it boosted my confidence knowing I have a pretty good grasp of my body's center of balance (I didn't fall in the water!). This was an awesome experience & I would totally do it again!! read more

I planned an 8:30am group yoga sesh for our Tahoe trip for my girlfriends bday (7 of us). So many smiles leaving the beach, definitely hit a home run with the group, and we had such a wonderful weekend to follow...coincidence? Difficult to capture how beautiful it was doing yoga on the beach, first thing in the morning, on our first morning up in Tahoe, but here goes; we practiced at Nevada Beach (although Jenay would have met us anywhere), there was a warming sunrise at our backs, reflective and glassy Lake Tahoe 20 feet away, snow capped mountains in the backdrop, and 3 of our group members experienced inversions for the first time. Needless to say our 1 hour yoga session exceeded all expectations. Since returning from the trip I have told everyone, including my parents that they should try it. After all, yoga in Tahoe...tough to beat. Anyways, we are looking forward to trying paddle board yoga later in the Summer. Thanks Jenay! RECOMMENDED! read more

I have never been too much into yoga, but while on a fast my husband and I decided to go for a couple of classes to aid our detox. With Jenay I realized I've never been a big fan of yoga because I hadn't had such a good instructor. She is very knowledgeable and willing to share her knowledge, unlike some other classes I've been to, she took her time to gently correct each student for each pose. The best part is at the end, when she fixes your laying posture with a quick shoulder and neck massage and places a deliciously smelling eye pad on your head, after a few minutes of meditation she starts singing with a truly beautiful and relaxing voice. I wish I wasn't moving away, she is truly the best yoga instructor I've come across! read more

My husband and I just returned from an awesome vaca in South Lake Tahoe. Last Tuesday, we took a beach yoga class with Jenay from Svadhyaya. Jenay is a great instructor who combines yogic philosophy with asana biomechanics. I really enjoyed her class and found the setting on Nevada Beach (at sunset) to be truly inspiring. Nothing like sirsasana/headstand with an upside down view of the lake and the Sierras to blow your mind! If you go, look for the Tibetan Prayer flags on the north end of Nevada Beach. Bring a beach towel for your practice...and the $15 drop-in fee. (I had a little trouble locating these details on the studio website.) Jenay taught a Vinyasa-style class...maybe a Level 1-2. Svadhyaya is a wonderful little yoga studio with a warm, playful, genuine and welcoming spirit! I have had the privilege to practice with a few different teachers here, and have enjoyed many a class. Teachers give individual attention and make beginners feel welcome while challenging seasoned practitioners. The studio is clean, has a variety of props on the ready, and provides a great ambiance for your practice. They also do monthly community yoga classes and during the summer offer beach yoga and stand-up paddle-board yoga classes. You would be hard-pressed to find a more welcoming studio. read more

I took my very first yoga class here, while in Tahoe for work. Yoga had never appealed to me before because I've always been of the mentality that if I'm not sweaty and exhausted afterwards, I didn't get a good workout. Boy, was I wrong! My arms and back were sore for days afterwards, in a really fantastic way. The class was simultaneously challenging and relaxing. There were only six of us there at 7 AM, so it was a really intimate environment and the instructor made sure to offer modifications to each pose (which were basically entirely for me, since everyone else was about 100 times more flexible and better at balancing than I was). The class ended with meditation during which the instructor walked around and gave everyone a short shoulder massage, which was a really nice touch! I felt so energized and relaxed afterwards, I think I might just have become a yoga convert! read more

Jenay is a great instructor who really knows how to teach Yoga even to complete beginners. I feel completely relaxed just after few minutes of doing the first few poses. I really recommend the "How to Yoga" class for anyone who never tried Yoga before. read more
