Lake Chautaqua offers more shade and, if you like, a paved walkway that runs along the road. There are also some well-established paths within the wooded area, which I really like. It tends to be cooler there and gives the dogs plenty to sniff. There are many places to toss your dog's waste, and most people adhere to cleaning up after their pets. A large parking lot toward the beginning of the park has water stations for adults, children, and dogs. There is also an available hose in a small fenced-in area. It's not overly crowded. It is peaceful and you get the feeling you are in nature, although you are surrounded by neighborhoods.

I took my pup and saw others w/theirs - some people do not abide by the leash rule FYI. My shelter dog gets easily scared by other dogs, so that was the only part I didn't like. Trash bags are provided for you to help maintain the trail, so be sure to pickup your dog's poop! This place is beautiful - it was baren despite going on the weekend and gives you a chance to really soak in the beauty. Of course, the oak trees & palms including many other plants/trees I couldn't identify are so pretty. There's a small pond (catch & release) surrounded by overgrown vines and trees & two small bridges. There's a dock that overlooks the lake - I somehow missed it and will def. return to check it out. No restrooms. Paved paths available if you prefer. Parking is plentiful.

She described each site and made a suggestion which I agreed too and boy was I happy with her recommendations when I arrived - the site map is accurate but it's difficult to visualize the amenities of each site without viewing it in person. Check in was easy especially during the Covid-19 protocols it was contactless, our packet was placed on a table clearly marked in alphabetical order in the office area - we were offered an escort to the site but the map provided enough information that it wasn't necessary. The back-in site provided plenty of room for the motor-coach leaving enough room to park the toad. The gravel site was level and very well landscaped and partially shaded. I loved that the sites were spaced far enough apart and offered some privacy, the three nights we were there was peaceful and quite. Of course there's always a few things that could be improved upon and sometimes it's difficult to understand why these issues exist even after major renovations have recently been completed and although it's obvious sometimes there's just no easy or inexpensive solutions. Electrical Service - my motor-coach requires 50 amps of electrical service and the two roof top air conditioning units can really draw on the parks infrastructure - multiple this by 100 and add in the extreme heat and humidity of the Florida summer and you can expect problem if the electrical service is not robust. We experienced (6) power outages during our stay fortunately we have a large and expensive surge protector and it provided adequate protection so we were able to protect our investment. The park's management was sympathetic and they understand the issues but it was still somewhat disappointing. Sewer Hookup - it's impossible to know how this part of the infrastructure performs until your dumping the tanks on the last day - the gray tank valves remained open during our entire stay and we never experienced any issues even with multiple showers per day and using the laundry inside the coach but that was before the torrential rains began. It seems the rain completely over-whelmed the sewer system and filled up the entire system to the point that it was impossible to dump the tanks - although we are completely self-contained we pay for full hookups and dumping and rinsing the gray and black water tanks is part of this. It's a beautiful and cozy little campground and we loved the location, the friendly staff and the surrounding campers made for a good experience outside the utility issues we loved it - it wasn't a deal breaker but a little disappointing for the price.

The capacity of Kiwanis Sprayground is 90 kids and kids under 3 must wear waterproof diapers to prevent unwanted accidents. The water park has staff that monitors the grounds for kids accidents and the staff is pretty prompt about temporarily closing the whole Waterpark down and cleaning up kids accidents, which is nice. The Water park features a dragon, a gator, flowers, a pirate ship slide, hoops, a mushroom waterfall, and a dolphin with water everywhere! Next we visited Highlander's Aquatic Center Pool with 2 slides that the kids loved. The pool was clean, had a lifeguard, and had friendly staff! The aquatic center has swimming classes and after school kids babysitting programs. Highlander Park's Kids playground is officially designed for kids 5-12, has 4 slides, a fish theme, a rock climbing wall, and swings. The kids playground is not covered from the sun is about medium in size. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here just for the playground but it's a nice addition to complement everything else kids can do at this park. Highlander Park occupies a whopping 70 acres and is Dunedin's second largest park. Highlander Park has a multi-use recreation area featuring the Dunedin Community Center, the Fine Art Center, 3 playgrounds, picnic tables, picnic pavilions, tennis courts, sand volleyball, baseball little league fields. Highlander park hosts many community events here including the annual Dunedin Celtic Festival which I had the pleasure of attending many moons ago. If you're in Westchase, Oldsmar, Dunedin, or Clearwater, I highly recommend making a short drive to Dunedin's Highlander Park to give your kids hours of fun!

The director came out and told everyone to move because it was a fire hazard which is understandable. She also mentioned that the pool was still open which is a lie because they legally can't be open if there is lightning within a 10 mile radius. Nobody moved so she called the police for assistance... again, understandable. Meanwhile, she had her staff in the pool with Lightning 3 miles away. By law, pools have to close if Lightning is within a 10 mile radius. This would be a form of negligence if anyone was struck and can result in prison time. This happened around 10:30AM on 9/27/25.

If I lived nearby I'd keep it that way because this Hillsborough county park was an unexpected find that I thought was a beaut. At first glance, a small parking lot, playground and pavilion isn't much. However, once on the hiking trail a nice boardwalk with benches goes over a large lake. I used a trail guide from a QR code that led me to a Hillsborough park website to help me navigate because most signs in the park are colored posts and colors on trees indicating the path the hiker is on. I didn't see any signs indicating where paths went or their distance once at the park When I visited Lake Dan Preserve, I went straight (over the bridge/boardwalk) and took the second left (the red trail) and a few feet down is a picturesque lake that would make a great back drop for photos or an amazing place to relax by a small pond. Turn right and go down the yellow trail and you can hike into neighbouring Lake Francis Preserve. I choose to vear off and hike the connecting blue trail. The blue trail goes down a gravel road into several large open pastures. I must've said this is gorgeous 15 times. A short time later the trail turns as the back side of Trinity starts to come into view in the distance. As the path continues, it leads to Lake Dan and a fishing pier. It's basically a shorter version of the park's entrance bridge looking out a vibrant and large lake. Birds, fish and some cows mooing in the distance makes the pier a nice place to relax. Although, I can't imagine hiking that distance to find it crowded. When I visited Lake Dan my car was the only one in the parking lot and I didn't see another person inside the park. I plan on visiting this preserve again as I thought some it's views we're nice enough to be back drops in movie scenes. It's wide open spaces and lack of people inside made it's trails an excellent place to enjoy a peaceful hike.
