The rustic vibe inside is beautiful, and they did a great job of maintaining the charm of the former Whittemore estate. My cousin and I stopped by one Sunday a lil closer to closing. I don't think they have food but you can byoe (bring your own eats). Service was good it was our first time there so the woman that helped us out gave us the run down on how things work. In my opinion the Ambiance was fab, we sat on some nice chairs looking through floor to ceiling windows overlooking the vineyard though there isn't any grapes on the vines as yet but I'm interested to see how the vineyard looks midsummer. read more

Such a cute vineyard! Wish they were dog friendly but the interior is gorgeous and their outside looks even nicer when it's warm! The prices were good (about $15 for a tasting, $11-$15 for a glass) and the staff was so friendly and helpful! ORIGIN: Tranquillity Vineyard & Winery is situated on the former summer estate of John Whittemore, a nineteenth century industrialist who amassed significant wealth from local iron production. A 45 acre subdivision of the original 300 acre estate was recently purchased from the family heirs by local entrepreneurs, Dean and Linda Yimoyines, and their son Alexander. The vineyard opened for public events in 2023. LOCATION: The vineyard is positioned on a gently sloping hill that overlooks Lake Quassapaug. CONCEPT: Dr. Dean Yimoyines explained to me that he had committed to maintaining the estate as a peaceful oasis in the course of negotiating its purchase with Whittemore heirs. With this in mind, thousands of grape vines were planted. The vineyard lives up to its name, proving a space to appreciate the picturesque topography of Connecticut. SERVICE: The vineyard is an expansion of the Yimoyines family enterprise, which includes neighboring Vyne Restaurant and Brewbury Pub. Attentive care and active involvement of family can be anticipated. EXPERIENCE: I had learned about this estate during a history of American architecture class taught by Robert A.M. Stern, and was eager to see what remains of the shingle and colonial style structures restored AND accessible to the public! Ticketed events ($75 plus tax/tip) provide a "sneak peak" of what has been developed thus far. The team worked tirelessly this summer to prepare for the first preview on September 10th. Additional dates are planned this fall. Participants learn about and tasted a variety of wine types (red, white, rose, dessert) that are being made by winemaker, Frank Renaldi. Bites prepared by Vyne's Executive Chef, Phil Polzella, are selected and distributed to complement each of the wines presented. Let's be honest, CT is not the best place for growing grapes and while there are many gorgeous wineries in the state with spectacular view, very few make decent wine. Tranquility is a huge exception - they make fantastic wines with the same California-grown grapes that Cakebread and Caymus use. This place is fairly new but worth checking out. Best wine produced in CT that we've tried, hands down. They have outdoor firepits, tables and adirondack chairs and a decent-sized tasting room inside for colder days. They were in the process of building out the tasting room further when we last visited; I think they're making a 2nd mezzanine level in the tasting room. Will be back! read more

Lovely place to stop at while passing though. I highly recommend the cheese platter as you get more than what most places give you. Hope that doesn't change. The staff and the tasting room are very nice. Some wines taste a bit young (newer place) , can't wait to see the progress in a year. We will be back for sure. read more

This is a fairly new vineyard and winery, and while it's a beautiful venue, the setup is ridiculous, especially for wine tasting, and the wines are disappointing. If you want to order a flight to sample the wines or a bottle or snack, you have to fill out a checklist of what you want, then stand in line to tell the one person who fills the orders. You then have to carry your order to some seating area. It's like ordering at McDonald's. The wines were all slightly insipid, as if they hadn't been aged. And the price per flight (4 small glasses) was $22. Other wineries usually have a bar where you get one wine at a time along with a description of what you're drinking, and you often get to keep the glass with the winery's logo. I think Tranquility needs to look around and find a better model than McDonald's for serving its customers. read more

First time going to Tranquilty and I will definitely be back. The tasting room is quaint with a fireplace and comfy chairs. We tried 6 of the wines offered and all of them were great. Highly recommend trying the Sunset After Dark port wine, you won't be disappointed. Kendall works in the tasting room and is knowledgeable about the wines as well as the property and it's history. Will definitely make this a regular stop throughout the summer. read more

What a disappointment. The building is lovely, nice tables, comfortable seating, spectacular setting. Shared a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc. Rather nice. Then we had a sad little antipasto. It had the ingredients, albeit small in number, but was "served" in a plastic take-out container. No napkins, no cutlery, no bread or crackers, just a little pile of slices. Hardly the "exquisite" bites they advertise. These folks run an upscale restaurant and a brew pub and they present food in very un-eco friendly plastic? Rather tacky, frankly. Also surprisingly unfortunate was a group in for a paint class. Whatever ambience there might have been was spoiled by the instructor loudly telling her group what to do. OK for a pub or different kind of place, but very out of place and intrusive in this setting. They don't seem to know what they want to be. The decor, advertising and location suggest classy but comfortable, yet not snobby. It turned out to be just another place that doesn't know how to be or function and so disappoints. Very unfortunate . I truly hope they hire someone who knows how to run a nice wine tasting room. Otherwise, they may as well be selling beer. read more

What a special place! The wines are fantastic. There is a lot of thought and care put into each wine you can tell the passion Dean and Frank have for their winery. The reds were my personal favorite, and there were a really wonderful rose, muscat and port which are not varietals I like, but still really great for those that like them! This place has the best people working there. I walk in and feel like we are all friends. Sat down with the Apple Cider Sangria (which is spectacularly delicious and refreshing and perfectly suitable for the season) and a good book to decompress from a heck of a week at work. Then I switched to a wonderfully full bodied red when it was time to start the Sip & Paint. Robin led a very fun and lighthearted painting session. Last Saturday was a beautiful day out in Connecticut so a few friends and I decided to check out this new vineyard. We had a wonderful time as the ambience was outstanding. We sat outside and enjoyed to expansive view of the vineyard that looked out to Lake Quassapaug. We got the Rose' wine which I'm not normally a fan of, but it was dry, not sweet, and crisp. We all loved it. The service was commendable as well. We will definitely be going back to this location. I can't wait for the vineyard to get some live music there to make it absolutely perfect. I visited Tranquility Vineyard yesterday for a tasting. It was one of the best I've ever had. There was a fire in the fireplace making it very warm and cozy. Dean was an excellent host. He took time explaining about the wines and the plans for the vineyard. All the wines are excellent, but my favorite is the Merlot. It's so nice to have a winery close by that has excellent wines and a comfy atmosphere making you feel like family. I highly recommend trying this winery, you won't be disappointed. read more

Have you ever been to a vineyard where you're not "allowed" to walk the grounds ??? I came here once with my husband and thought it would be nice to bring my Mom for a tasting. The girl pouring the wines was not friendly or welcoming when we arrived & we preceded to pay for our tasting and bring them outside. There was barely anyone there & we found some adirondack chairs in a shady spot to sit. I also had my 3 year old with me and thought it would be nice to take a walk through the vineyard and to see if we could see the lake and he could burn off some energy. We walked through one lane close to the perimeter and saw the lake but the only access was through someone's yard. It was a beautiful walk & day & my son was amazed by all the interesting birds. We walked pretty far but about halfway through the vineyard- definitely not visible to the barn where you purchase wine. All of a sudden, we see the girl that works there yelling from the top of the hill but she was so far away we could barely hear her. We made out that "they please ask that we return to our seats and we are not allowed to walk in the vineyard." She turned around and walked away before we could even catch up to her. She had to walk a really far way just to say this to us & was also the only one working. I felt as though we had just been scolded. I have been to many wineries and have walked through many beautiful vineyards and never experienced anything like this. It put a really bad taste in my mouth & just the way she handled it was unnecessary and rude. Maybe place some signs warning guests not to walk through the vineyards. read more
