Sunset Meadow literally has something for everyone because there are multiple wines there I enjoy, including a smooth one with a taste of maple. Most importantly, they treat their customers with respect. A third party event there cancelled, and Katelyn M made things right after the vendor ignored me for two months. My husband and I visited the vineyard this past weekend while visiting the area and could not have been more pleased with not only the quality of wine, but the friendliness and knowledge both Charlotte and Katelyn shared. Their recommendations based on things we were saying led us to buy a few cases of wine, some of which I have never tried and probably would not have naturally picked on my own. The wine is from its original form, no extra sugars or parabens, which makes for a much cleaner taste. I would absolutely recommended this vineyard and their wine. read more

As you drive down the main road, there is a blue sign that indicates that this is the Connecticut Wine Trail. Turn into the modest driveway and the vista opens up to endless views of grape vines with a cute house in the front, which is the tasting room, and the main house behind it. I walked in, having never been to Sunset Meadows, and was immediately greeted by Lexi with a friendly hello and a warm smile. The room was filled with many bottles of wine of all different varietals. I told Lexi that I was interested in tasting some red wines, and she immediately set me up. She told me, much to my delight, that all of the wines were produced on the grounds and that there were no additives or sulfites. Now I am no wine expert, but I know when I like a wine. Enter Katelyn. Katelyn has been working at the vineyard for over 10 years and proudly shared with me that this year she actually helped in the blending of their Chardonnay. She was extremely knowledgeable about all of the wines and their compositions and preparation. I decided to purchase their Merlot and Cabernet Franc, both well balanced and smooth, if a bit fruity. I would recommend visiting this vineyard while visiting the North Central Connecticut area. They produce a tasty product and are very friendly. I thought that their prices were very good as well, especially compared to California contemporaries. read more

I've been here loads of times of the years and it's my favorite vineyard- and I've been to most in CT- and it's my favorite because the wine is that good (for a Connecticut bottle). It's very cute, has a fun little store inside and a great vibe. The only downfall is that they don't have a food menu so you can bring your own or buy some snacks from their food fridge. Also, they don't have a ton of seating, the inside seating area is small but cute, and outside they have way more tables but in the summer they fill up fast. You can sit on the grass though. Upon arriving on a cloudy somewhat rainy Saturday afternoon I was pleasantly surprised to find this place. Not knowing what I wanted, the Cayuga White was suggested by my server Charlotte. I was very impressed on my first visit. Katelyn, Charlotte, Kylie and Debbie were busy behind the bar, but always with a smile and friendly conversation. A great selection of wines on hand, both chilled and room temperature, ready to enjoy there or to take home. There are snack boards available for purchase to complement the wine. There are tables outside to relax and admire the view, or enjoy live music when they have it. They even allow well behaved pets, nothing better than enjoying a glass of wine with man's best friend. I believe you have to call and make a reservation if you want to visit the tasting room on the weekend. You cannot bring any outside food or beverages in. They only had one cheese/hummus plate and crackers. You have to buy food since it's a Covid regulation. The cheese plate was yummy but it would be nice if it had a list of what kinds of cheeses you were getting. The wines are very nice for a Connecticut winery. To do a tasting flight you choose 5 wines from about 9 white wines and 12 red wines. A wide range of dry to sweet options. I was surprised with the delicate clean taste of their Chardonnay which is made in French oak barrels. read more

Super cute vineyard. I remember coming here years ago - long before COVID made it's awful appearance! Post COVID, they have a large outdoor area with lots of tables and chairs and a covered tent area where the bar is. Now they don't let you go inside, but rather you order wine through a covered tent area. Their tastings are $15 and the bottle of wine I ordered was $17 or $18. I sat alone on a rocking chair on the outdoor porch and relaxed while reading a book, lovely afternoon. They had a tempting food truck on site, but people also brought their own food too. Sunset Meadow Vineyards does so much right! A beautiful setting, plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, delicious wine, frozen wine slushies, affordable prices, friendly staff. At most wineries you aren't even acknowledged when you walk into the door. We were acknowledged and told there wasn't a spot at the bar yet for a tasting but the wait wasn't long. Then a bunch more people came in and usually at these wineries it's a free for all to get a spot for tasting. Not here. The same staff member told us to get ready to step up to the bar because we were next. I loved that! Our wine server was funny and knowledgeable and kept saying 'don't rush'. Wow! Totally impressed me. At many wineries you are rushed through your tasting to get the next people up. We purchased our frozen peach bellini then enjoyed it outside. It was delicious! Even staff walking the grounds were so polite when correcting people kindly about the no water bottle policy. My friend came home with a case of wine. Drinks: We got a tasting flight of 5 wines that we were allowed to pick. I added on the port wine at an additional cost of $1.50. All the wines we had were amazing and we thought they were accessible to those who aren't necessarily into wine (like my partner lol). They had a few unique wines as well such as one that was rum barrel-aged, made with cold brew, and infused with maple syrup (one of our favorites). We ended up buying a few bottles and a can to-go. Experience: We went on a Saturday afternoon around 3 pm and tasting room was pretty busy when we got there - we were able to get taken care of within 10 min though. The person greeting was friendly and got us oriented to the space and process for tastings. Our host, Jen, was super knowledgable about the wines, bubbly, and made our tasting superb. I loved how we could choose our own wines because that really made the experience personal. We thought the vibe was welcoming and just a spot to bring family and friends so everyone could have a good time. There is a decent amount of outdoor seating and the property is pretty, especially with the fall colors! Def one of our favorite wineries we have been to.
