They deserve to go from 4 to 5 stars! One of Connecticut's best vineyards! First, I barely like wine. (I go to a surprising amount of wineries but it's true...) Sunset Meadow literally has something for everyone because there are multiple wines there I enjoy, including a smooth one with a taste of maple. Most importantly, they treat their customers with respect. A third party event there cancelled, and Katelyn M made things right after the vendor ignored me for two months. They even apologized when clearly Sunset wasn't at fault! Definitely a great spot, and always a great experience.

The service was amazing! Our server Katelyn was so friendly and accommodating!! She even saved us from getting caught in the heavy rain while sitting outside! The dry rose is delicious! We also had the white wine slushy! So good!!! This was my first time here and will definitely be back!!

I came for the wine and stayed for the great staff! Katelyn & Karen were extremely friendly and were thorough in explaining each wine. I appreciate the time they took to speak to me and will definitely come back. With many vineyards to choose from this will always be my #1

Have been here twice so far. Both times were a good experience. The mango wine was a smash. Live music is always a plus

This is a beautiful vineyard and Charlotte was our bartender. We enjoyed a variety of wines and got some great pairing ideas.

This is such a gem of a place! The staff is very knowledgeable, friendly and pleasant, the atmosphere is fun and the wine is delicious! AND they are doggie friendly!!

Great tasting with picnic tables outside. It's a beautiful winery and reasonably priced. There's lots of seating both indoor and outdoor and our server was extremely knowledgeable.

It was…read moreopened by Bill and Judith Hopkins after they decided to transform their family dairy farm into a vineyard. The land itself (which overlooks the beautiful Lake Waramaug) was settled by Elijah Hopkins in 1787 after he returned from a tour of duty in the American Revolution. The land was chosen for its rich and fertile soil. Several crops were raised over the centuries, including: sheep, race horses, grain crops, tobacco, and finally dairy. After the first grape vines were planted on the farm in 1979, the Hopkins Family set out to convert their 19th-Century barn into a state-of-the-art winery and tasting room. Due to the vineyard's unique location, it is the only Connecticut vineyard with a micro-climate that is influenced by the nearby Lake Waramaug. This allows an extended growing season and a successful growing of grape varieties that ordinarily would not thrive in the harsh New England climate. My wife and I visited the Hopkins Vineyard this past weekend. To celebrate my wife's birthday, I took her for a drive in Western Connecticut to see the fall foliage and explore some wineries. This was our second visit to the vineyard and it was our second stop of the day. The view over Lake Waramaug is absolutely breathtaking! The interior of the barn is charming and inviting. We decided to order some wine flights so we could sample several of the winery's offerings. Between the two of us, we sampled their "Riesling", "Westwind", "Saperavi", "Lemburger", "Red Barn Red", "Sachem's Picnic", "Night Owl", and two different vintages of their "Ice Wine". We decided to purchase bottles of our two favorites (the "Night Owl" and the "Cabernet Franc Ice Wine") to take home. Hopkins Vineyard also has their own Charcuterie Bar where visitors can order a variety of delicious light food options. To accompany our wine flights, we decided to order the "CharBOOterie Board" which featured "Mozzarella Ghost Crostini", "Bloody Prosciutto Fingers", "Mimolette Pumpkins" and "Gummy Worms in Dirt". These delectable treats were as delicious as they were spooky. Before leaving, I also grabbed bottles of the "Elijah Hopkins 1787 Brandy" (collab with Litchfield Distillery) and Sono 1420's "Blaze Cinnamon Bourbon" to take home. Once again, we had an excellent experience at Hopkins Vineyard and we hope to return again and again!

Only thing I would change would be to have soap in the bathrooms (didn't have at beginning of visit) however they did put some out later and wished it was better than the dial offered. Pulling up was like driving into someone else's backyard at first. But don't let that sway you, this is a marvelous gem of a winery. Their Red Table wine is like a milder Cab with a clean finish, enough to eat with a meal or sipping. I'm not into white but the Gertrude wasn't sweet at all, in fact all of their wines are quite dry, even their Rose. We've been many CT wineries, with Hopkins and Stonington Vineyards being the best, the wine quality approaches what these more established places deliver. The venue is intimate, it's small, ie, 50-60 people would fill up most of the seating in the barn/deck, but there an outside seating area adjacent that peeps walk past and aren't aware of. There were maybe 25 people there and it was fine. Parking could be tight if busy, but I suspect very few people know of this place. Owners were very nice, and love talking about their wines. Jim especially. Note no food, other than a cheese box which was good, but you can bring your own... I'd give it 5 stars but felt the flight serving pour was a bit small. Def on our list to visit again.
