I am so confused when I read these 1-star reviews, I have seen Dr. Daftary five times now and I have had nothing but amazing experiences each time I have been seen at Lakeforest Dental Associates. I Highly recommend Dr. Daftary and his practice to anyone looking for a compassionate, responsive, modern dentist with a patient first approach. As an adult in my early 50s, I have seen my fair share of Dentists over the years. I was impressed with how modern the technology used was, from a full (painless) 3D scan of my mouth, to the TVs over each chair for a welcome distraction, it is apparent that this office has the tools and resources to accommodate a variety of needs. Perhaps most important, the Dr. insisted on insuring my comfort despite my urging to proceed (I have a fast metabolism, as such I have gotten used to dentists just giving a shot and getting to work). Don't be distracted with the angry 1-star reviews some have left, they are not warranted in any way. I found Lakeforest Dental Associates on google and I have been blown away with how friendly and responsive the staff at Lakeforest Dental Associates is. They accommodated me on two different occasions for same day visits (I can remember prior dentists I have seen over the years not being able to accommodate unexpected / emergency visits until the following day(s), not here! Want a root canal when you don't actually need one? Just go to Lakeforest Dental Associates! Dr. Zaner will watch you from his office window to see what kind of car you drive. If you drive a luxury vehicle, you've just earned yourself a golden ticket for an over-priced crown with additional hidden expenses! Think I'm exaggerating? He admitted to it. By the way, the women who work in this office are terribly mistreated by Dr. Zaner. He yells at Maria (his assistant) and belittles her in front of patients and is extremely rude to Elizabeth (his hygienist). I love all the women who work in his office, but I have no idea why they tolerate his atrocious behavior. Dr. Dafferty's no walk in the park either. These two dentists deserve each other. read more

Went as a new patient. One of the most painful dental experiences I have ever had and their diagnosis of a cavity and possible need for a root canal was incorrect. The dental hygienist told me at least three times that I needed to use an electric toothbrush and floss every day. I floss two times a week and every dentist I've been to before this has said I have very little plaque build up. After the cleaning, Dr Daftari comes in and shows me my X-ray and says I have a small cavity and there is decay under one of my fillings, and because it is so deep it might need to be a root canal. I was taken aback by this so I decided to consult another dentist. They told me the exact opposite. No cavity and no need to replace the filling. The only upside is that they were able to schedule me in quickly and the receptionists were so helpful. read more

If you are looking for a trusthworthy dentist who will do an excellent job for you and will stand by his work, Dr. Zaner is your dentist. We have had zero complications with his work. His front desk staff, Clariza and Jasemine and others, are always sweet, friendly and positive. You feel taken care of from start to finish and they truly care about you. They are #1! I was talking to a good friend about Dr. Zaner, and it turned out she and her husband have been going to Dr. Zaner forever as well, but we have never run into each other there. We have been using this practice since it opened. I have had root canals, crowns and Invisilign. My boys grew up using the dentists here and both have beautiful teeth. Recently I lost two teeth on the bottom due to cancer treatments. Dr. Daftary suggested invisilgn to pull my other teeth together as much as possible, then he created a crown and added a tooth to it to fill the gap. It looks absolutely natural. I never would have believed this would have turned out as beautiful as it did. As someone that has been nervous about the dentist since I was 13, they take all the nerves away when I walk in. Everyone from the office staff, hygienist, dental assistants and the dentists makes you feel very comfortable and friendly. read more

Don't go there! I want to click zero star. I had my root canal done by Dr. Zaner, and he put screw with a very sharp on the end into my root canal, and it stayed there. my root canal had been hurting for years and years. everytime i visited dentist (elizabeth), i told her that my root canal was hurting. she said oh i'm sorry. every visit I told her my root canal was hurting, she still said "oh I'm sorry." Dr. Zaner knew that and said that he couldn't find anything wrong with it. I moved to the west, and went to see Endondontic for treatment. He removed the screw!!! he cleaned the bacteria inside of my root canal two years ago. not only the problem with this screw, the problem with tooth that dr zaner got for me, it was TOO big! he sanded it to make it smaller to fit in my gum/root canal. There's a gap between the false tooth and gum that bacteria goes through into my root canal. Now I have to spend more than $3,000.00 to get the root canal fixed and clean the bacteria again!! damn you dr zaner! damn you Elizabeth!! FK hearing people! also, they refused to provide a sign language interpreter. if you're ASL user, don't go there. They don't give a sh*t about ADA law! I'm still very fking pissed!!!!!! The next root canal treatment would be the last time. If unsuccessful, I'm gone! Life is not worthy to have pain root canal 24/7 for years and years. Fk you!! I'm still very extremely angry! Avoid this dentist. Went as a new patient and won't be back. After looking in my Mouth for less than a minute the doctor told me I needed a crown to replace a poorly installed one. I've been to other dentists who never mentioned it and I've had no issues with that tooth. The receptionist was quick to tell me how much out of pocket I'd pay, clearly this is common practice. The hygienist spent the whole time telling me all the things I was doing wrong and told me I needed to get an electric toothbrush. I had a dental emergency. Woke up with the left side of my face swollen and pain so bad I could hardly see. My dentist has recently moved out of the area and I procrastinated as usual and didn't line up a new one. Well I called several places and was told either they didn't have an opening or only could do an exam and schedule work for later. I remember seeing a dentist office behind the fire station across from Lakeforest mall so I googled it and I found Lakeforest Dental and Dr. Daftary. I explained that I was in a lot of pain and was given an appointment immediately. I was told they were fitting me in so I might have to wait a little bit. I was just happy to be able to be seen at all. When I arrived at the office I was immediately greeted by the receptionist who remembered my name. I filled out a couple of pages of information and was sent right back. I was surprised to be seen so soon. The nurse took me back and I explained what I think happened and she took s couple of x rays and I waited about 10 mins for the dentist. He was very gentle and worked with me thru my nervousness. All in all I was in and out in less than an hour. Im so glad that I found Dr. Daftary and Lakeforest Dental. They are really great with customer service and I felt at home right away. I highly recommend them for all your dental needs. They see everyone from toddlers on up. read more

I went to see the doctor Neil Daftary here. His assistant pushed my chin very hard when giving me X-rays. I told her that you pushed my chin very hard and that it hurt but she not only ignored me, she put her palm to my face aka "speak to the hand." I told the doctor about this. The doctor actually said that she might be too tired at work and told me not to think so much. No matter what I say, the doctor has been guarding his assistant so I want to let everyone know. I've been coming to this dentist for years now I've had a couple teeth pulled I had a bridge made I've had deep cleaning had root canal I've had it all done and he did an awesome job! The ladies at the reception desk are very kind sweet and helpful. Now that all my dentist work has been completed at least all the hard Parts I just go regularly every 3 to 5 months and get my teeth cleaned. Elizabeth does an excellent job of cleaning your teeth as well as pointing out things that you are doing correct to manage your teeth care as well as things you can do better... Dr. Zaner is great! Highly recommend him... he points out what work needs to be done, but he is honest and does not push for work that is not necessary. His fees are reasonable, and he has a great sense of humor. Dr. Zaner saw me within 30 minutes of calling for an appointment to address a very painful tooth. He quickly discovered the problem and got me on the path to relief. He promised me that he could provide me a pain-free root canal, and HE DID!!!! That really REALLY impressed me, and I definitely appreciate that at each visit I was seen exactly at the time of my scheduled appointment time (no sitting and waiting), and the check-out is smooth and pleasant. I only wish I had found these folks years ago, and I can't recommend them enough, especially if you've put off going to a dentist because of fear of pain. I got a filling done courtesy of Dr. Dafthari. Despite being very efficient and getting me in and out in less than an hour, Dr. Dafthari needs to work on his bedside (chairside?) manner. Within a minute of examining my broken tooth, he insisted that I needed a crown rather than the filling that I originally made the appointment for. I told him that my insurance would not immediately cover such a procedure and that I would have to submit it to them in writing beforehand. He basically told me that a composite filling would be a waste of time since it would fall out as soon as I bit into a sandwich. His exact words. And as my filling was being worked on, Dr. Daftary basically had a conversation with his dental assistant regarding my previous dental work (some of it from 17 years ago and still going strong!) and how shitty he thought it was. I felt like a lab rat with cotton swabs stuffed into it's mouth. Dr. Daftary is Gregory House M.D. as a dentist. Same attitude. read more

I have terrible anxiety about going to the dentist and he and his staff are always so patient and understanding even though I'm a grown adult and should "grow up" a bit. I went to Lakeforest Dental Assoc. in the first week of August for a root canal. They had received excellent reviews on Angie's List. I quickly received an appointment, and Dr. Daftary was very prompt. After reviewing x-rays it was determined that one tooth definitely needed a root canal; he implied that the 11-year-old root canal on the adjacent tooth hadn't been done properly & should be re-done. It sounded like a good course of action, so I gave my consent to both root canals During the drilling and filing i was in a great deal of pain in spite of novocaine. When i told him this, he dismissed it, saying "you have novocaine on board, it shouldn't hurt". well, it probably shouldn't have hurt, but it did - a lot. In addition, when the pain got too intense and I needed a momentary break i would raise my hand for him to stop. He didn't, and kept drilling away. At the end of the session he prescribed an anitbiotic. I had requested Zithromax for its efficacy and lack of side effects. I was told i didn't need that and was given something else. When the initial pain medication did not work well I asked if Percocet would be appropriate. I was told that he "rarely prescribed Percocet" and made me feel like I was a drug-seeker. I spoke with my regular dentist yesterday and related what has been going on for the last few weeks.He promptly got me an appointment today with an endodontist he partners with. Long story short, the new endodontist took his own x-rays and found one tooth that had been sealed by a temporary filling had debris trapped inside.There was also a broken piece of a metal file in the root chamber. I wound up being in the chair for over two hours while all of the Dr. Daftary's work was removed. I was given an emergency appointment with my dentist to have temporary crowns put on. The permanent crowns will be ready next Tuesday. I will be finished in one week flat, as opposed to the three weeks and counting Dr. Daftary was providing. I learned an interesting fact about Dr. Daftary: in spite of being on Angie's List under "endodontists", he isn't one. He is merely a General Dentist. I wouldn't have work performed by Dr. Daftary if you paid me to do it. He doesn't explain what he is doing during the process, he ignores your input and requests, and does very sub-par work. On the other hand, all kudos to Dr. Patrick Murray, my general dentist, and Dr.Ali Behnia, my new endodontist. read more

I went to Lakeforest Dental because of the many favorable reviews. I had a really terrible experience with Dr. Zaner. I needed a root canal and he failed to properly administer the anesthesia. When I complained about the pain he decided to "press on" despite my great discomfort. Can you imagine the agony of a root canal without anesthesia? When I made it apparent that I would not be using Lakeforest again they started "piling on" the charges. $900 for the root canal itself. $950 for the crown on top of the root canal. ALMOST $2000 for a simple root canal. O.K. everyone else loves this dentist. I think he's an overcharging butcher!!! read more

Do not go to this dentist. Between my wife and I we had 10 root canals and all failed, most within a year and none lasted over two. Dr. Zaner is bad news. All he ever recommends is a root canal. Save your money and do some research. This was just like throwing 10 grand down the drain. read more

I was desperate to find a dentist in a hurry due to my dental care, I felt very fortunate to have found Dr. Zaner, he was able to see me the very next day. Not only did he promptly take care of my immediate needs, but he and his staff got me back on a program of returning to proper dental health and care. Not only have I found Dr. Zaner and his staff to be professionals, but they treat their patients with the utmost respect and courtesy. I needed a new crown and root canal. I called Lakeforest Dental Associates and inquired about a consultation, They stated the consultations were free of charge so I scheduled a consultation appointment. As I do not have dental insurance, I asked for a comprehensive estimate for the procedure. Dr. Zaner quoted me a price on the crown and root canal and told me that he could not give me a discount on the crown as his prices are the lowest around. He told me to look around and see if I can find a price lower than his. I decided to proceed with the procedure. The 2nd visit was supposed to be for the root canal, after I was already numbed they told me that they didn't have all the material to complete the root canal that day. He told me to reschedule and sent me home. Needless to say I was frustrated. I had to wait two weeks to come back in and get the root canal. I paid partial payment on that 3rd visit after the root canal. I received the remainder of bill in the mail and noticed that I was charged for the $25 initial consultation visit (that was supposed to be free) and $125 for the visit that they were not prepared for! My 4th appointment was for fitting the new crown, I asked about the charges and they said they could take that $125 charge off only if I paid the rest of the bill in cash. I reluctantly obliged. Prior to my last final appointment, I received the bill for the crown. The bill included the crown price that he quoted me and an extra $250 charge for what was 'crown buildup'. I was never informed of this charge. He quotes a certain price, then adds on hidden costs AFTER the procedure!! On my final appointment, I paid for the complete bill excluding the $250 build up charge and disputed the $250 charge. Rather than trying to resolve the situation the receptionist called the police and I was told that they would send me to collections and they would sue me! Once the police officer arrived, they took the police to his office in the back without me. So when the police officer came back out to the reception area I asked to speak to the police officer to share my side. They would not let me talk to the police officer and told me talk to him outside. Stay away! They are very unprofessional and fraudulent. They are not honest and disappointing. They will do anything to make an extra buck!! read more

Wow, root canals are never fun especially when you think you've had one and Dr. Daftary says,"No Way" in that very blunt way of his. If you are uncomfortable with going to the dentist and want heavy handholding with lots of soft assurances, he isn't for you. But if you want to hear the truth, are "man" enough to accept it, he's the one for you. I actually have been a patient twice (I saw them about 6 years ago when I lived near the office) and have come back now that I've moved back to the area. They are competent in the office and I do like having the tv to look at while I'm there. I haven't had problems with billing yet - the girls I've worked with at the front desk have been pretty accurate with the estimates they've given me. The office doesn't want you to be in pain at all. We have been going to Lakeforest Dental since we moved to MD about 6 years ago. I have had 3 root canals done, which were necessary, and they were super helpful both in scheduling, dealing with insurance etc. I find their staff competent and friendly. I usually see Dr. Zaner, but have also had work with Dr. Dafthari. I found both dentists to be funny and very friendly, but still professional too. I feel lucky we have found them read more

My husband had a cleaning and the dental technician said Zaner should look at a blemish on my husband's tooth. Three other dentists had said it was nothing to fix. Zaner looked at it and went right in with a drill and went down to gum line and then put posts and a cap on it and I had to pay for it. He didn't even ask my husband what he wanted. He told us a story that he was sorry he married his wife because he could have married a rich woman. He is totally greedy and incompetent because he does work that is not needed. Dr. Daftary, and the entire staff are very professional and committed to making me feel like more than just another customer. I've had to have a root canal and two crowns recently and Dr. Daftery took as much time as I needed to understand what he was recommending. In a nutshell, these guys are awesome. From the ladies at the reception desk to the two dentists with the quirky senses of humor, this place is well worth a visit. The ladies at the front desk are very polite. I've never met such nice and even-tempered women before in my life. Trust me when I say these ladies have a LOT of patience. The dentists are none to shabby either. Dr. Neil Daftary repaired a botched oral surgery performed by a previous dentist (namely, Dr. Jun Tae Bae at Family Dentistry of Maryland - STAY AWAY). He not only corrected the root canal, but did it with minimal pain. He also straightened out my bite within a minimal number of months. Dr. Daftary was always professional and very polite. He is very knowledgeable about his field and is able to sufficiently answer a variety of questions - no matter how many of them you have. Go check these guys out. You won't be disappointed. read more
