This is the second time that I had to take a very sick and dying old cat to them. I remembered how the doctor did not pressure us into costly tests and therapies at that time. I would love to continue going to this Vet but he is a good half hour to 45 min drive from where I live...I just can't justify that drive since I have a great Vet closer by. She was so full of life and was a wonderful part of our family. We took her in to get updates on vaccines. One month later she started to vomit then had diarrhea. in the morning, we noticed she was bleeding rectally. We called as soon as they opened and was told we could bring her in 3 hours later. I questioned the receptionist about waiting and she said the doctor said it was fine. we were getting ready to take her to the ER when Kern vet called back and said to bring her in now. My husband and daughter took her there. the doctor stated she had gastritis, and she needed fluids. she said she should stay there overnight for observation, but they didn't have anyone there that night. so, she sent my husband home with food and gave our girl some fluids. she never said to call back if she got worse or give any other recommendations. A few hours past and she was not any better, so I called the vet to inform them. at that time, they said to take her to the ER in Lansing. I asked what her diagnosis was, and the vet said it was HGE a very deadly virus that needed antibodics and hospitalization. She ended up getting double pneumonia and dying 12 hours later. She could have had a chance of getting better if given the antibodics asap, and hospitalized. The kern vet did not acknowledge any wrongdoing. Even if she would have told us the right diagnosis the first time, we would have taken her right away to the animal hospital. We lost our baby because of the careless act of a vet that we thought we could trust. The vet that treated her never called or apologized for what happened. Don't trust this clinic with your pets. They don't care about anything but the money.

Our family needs a Doctor with old school values. A Doctor that really cares about animals. A Doctor who will see them when they're sick. Horrible place for blatant animal abuse!!…read more These poor dogs spend their entire lives only to be used for blood draws and are confined for about 23 hours a day to small dirty cages. This imprisonment causes them to suffer from hair loss, calluses, infection, and pockets of accumulated fluid under the skin. Several dogs, desperate for human attention and affection became injuried when they wagged their tails enthusiastically against the metal wire of the enclosure when they saw people. It's heartbreaking. These injuries were sometimes so severe that they led to amputation, leaving dogs with just a "stub" of a tail. The staff said that it was "very common" for dogs' tails to be injured. One employee said that they had broken a dog's tail by shutting it in the kennel door, and that it was "dangling by a little nerve just a string." This is unacceptable--and people need to know this is a house of horrors. Any positive reviews are obviously fake and from employees, as most people wouldn't happily write about animal cruelty. This lab needs to be closed immediately.

I said yes we did as a f/u to today. And you told me that I could get in if i got here before noon. She kept insisting that I could not get her seen. After all the money I spent there. Each visit no matter what it was always costs almost 200.00 and they don't even give out complimentary nail cutting. Dr. Howe used to do that. I mean this business spent millions revampin g the place then raised their rates. I had beeen a client for over 10 years and probabvly put millions into it. Her and her staff are great with them. Even through their protests, the staff are at least able to get them somewhat under control, to get the job done, but they are still difficult. One of my labs has a bad hip - and Dr. Rode is great at helping keep her pain under control and keeping her comfortable. Office hours are excellent and I can always find a time to fit my schedule. I took my 14 year old cat in for what I suspected was a UTI. The vet was offering me a "geriatric lab panel", which included urine and blood draw. I told her that I wanted to see how she(my cat) did with the urine collection before drawing blood. They took her back to get it, and 15 minutes later came back and said my cat went into cardiac arrest from the stress. She was dead and they were doing CPR. I found out they had also drawn the blood. It was a horrible experience and I can't imagine how scared my cat must've been. My sweet cat would still be alive if I hadn't taken her there. Also, the longer haired woman at the front desk is rude.

One was the middle of the night where my elderly dog (17) was suffering and in pain. They were very compassionate and gentle with her. Just recently they took care of my puppy who had a bowel obstruction and needed surgery to get out the object. They explained everything in great detail and kept in constant contact with me on the progress. My puppy is home and doing well. When I was in to pick up my puppy up someone rushed in with an emergency. They handled everything swiftly, professionally and with care. I would highly recommend this place. They saved my dogs life.
