It was packed when we arrived for breakfast on a Sunday, but the waitresses were hustling, friendly and attentive. Breakfast was great-eggs, hash browns, bacon, toast, all cooked perfectly and seasoned just right. So easy to over salt a meal like this! Decor was modern and appealing. The service is amazing -- prompt and very friendly. Breakfast is good, but I am used to veggies in an omelet being cooked a bit before they beaten eggs are added. These veggies are raw so onions are strong, cheese barely warm. You could make a big improvement with a little more time at the grill. Nice comfortable atmosphere with lots of travels and regulars. The Lakes Café gets everyone's vote as the best breakfast in town. Located right on Main Street, with plenty of on street and off-street parking, the dining room is huge. The breakfast menu is no different from most small town diners, with the exception that items listing "hash browns" are over the top: the portion is huge, taking up half the plate and providing a pillow for my Country Omelet. I am a local and have been here many times. The staff and food is good. But I will not go back until they decide what their hours are. I don't have a problem with the food, but when you walk in a whole hour before closing to be greeted with " we may be closing early". Looked around and there were about 4 other tables seated and being served. So I aked if we would be served. "Yes, you are ok. There is no gravy or mashed potatoes, we always pull them at 2:00pm." What? They close at 3:00pm. No chicken fried steak, not biscuits and gravy, no hot sandwiches. So driving into town for the chicken fried steak means nothing. If they don't want to be open until 3, they should just change their hours, but don't be mopping the floor around my feet because I happen to be there in the last "open" hour! This makes me feel very unwelcome and frankly ruins my day. Sick of it! read more

Food is delicious, you can also order online! It doesn't have Doordash yet but you can pick up within 10-15 minutes!

We try to have breakfast here at least once every time we are in town. The service is always friendly and efficient and the food fresh and hot. Today two off us ordered the special: Biscuits and gravy with American Fries. We added an over easy egg the the plate for a bit of added protein. The sausage patties atop the biscuit was really tasty and the dish was as good as any I've had in the south. Schweety had the Everything Omelette which came with crispy hash browns and thick cut rye toast. It was almost too much for him to eat! The atmosphere inside is also really nice having been recently updated. Good coffee on top over everything else makes this place a winner! read more

I try to eat where the locals do, and this is my favorite place for a relaxing lunch! I always get the walleye sandwich because IT'S THE BEST! I'd give 5 stars if they served house made chips instead of Ruffles with the sandwiches. I could get fries for an added $3, but I usually pass. They serve water in juice glasses so be sure to keep requesting refills. We also ordered the chicken bacon ranch sandwich which was also good! Dessert was rhubarb custard and turtle pie! Yummy lunch and I will definitely go back when we are in town again!! Service was prompt and friendly, as always! The Lakes is a MUST!! read more

We walked in at 2:30 and the staff wasn't thrilled because they close at 3:00. Nobody greeted us in any fashion and we finally sat ourselves. The chef stood at the counter staring at us as we ordered. Between 2:30 and 2:59 three more customers walked in and again the staff weren't thrilled. Our waitress Nicole wasn't friendly either and every question we asked was an annoyance to her. The food was only OK. Unlikely we'd come back again. read more

Great breakfast and great service.. It's not that easy to get an over-easy egg from the kitchen to the customer (me) without over-frying it on a sometimes too-hot griddle (like my corporate cafeteria), and coordinate the toast and hash browns. Which is why I always make the 20-mile round trip from the family cabin for breakfast when I'm Up North. PLUS! You can get anything off the menu any time so I have egg/browns/toast at 9 a.m. and my friend can get a very good burger and fries. read more

This is a classic, old fashioned type cafe. Extremely clean, great service, fast and delicious. We had breakfast and it was amazing. Blueberry fritter French toast, bacon, sausage, polish sausage, eggs, regular French toast, juice and coffee. We will be back to try the lunch/dinner menu for sure. No reviews yet, what the heck?! I am convinced this is the best breakfast in the world! The hash browns here are to die for. Their lunch offerings are equally as delicious. They have daily specials that are hard to pass up, and the pies and cookies are as good as it gets. Service is usually spectacular, we see the same people working every year. Horrible customer service. Went in with a large group. Asked to move two tables together. They refused to let us move tables together. Even though there was only one customer. Then they offered for us to sit separately. Lost business of 13 people. read more
