I had Dr. Brian Damitz for my ankle surgery in December 2024. After a 4 1/2 hrs surgery. He never came to talk to my husband. 3 months after my surgery. He told me to not wear my walking boot, just a regular shoe. We'll 1 hour later in a regular shoe. Took it off and stood up on it. And my ankle popped, MRI showed several tears. I went to him to see what he was going to do. He said everything was fine. Its just a little hiccup that just put you back a month. He said to me, he wrote a note to my therapist while I was in his room. Starting that he talked to my therapist about my new orders, what to do for my ankle. When I got to therapy. My therapist never received or talked to him at all about my new care plan. I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO HIM. HE RUINED MY ANKLE. ITS WORSE NOW THEN BEFORE MY SURGERY. Lakeshore Bone & Joint prioritizes profit over patient care. The prior authorization staff failed to submit a second authorization request for an MRI (insurance denied the first one because I had not done physical therapy, and the doctor submitted a new authorization request afterwards), called the day before the procedure, told me insurance denied it, and said I would need to either self-pay or reschedule. I called my insurance, and they told me the second authorization request was never submitted. Bet! The doctor's assistant went to bat for me, and once the paperwork was submitted it was approved. Meanwhile, the prior authorization manager LIED and said she personally asked the doctor to do a peer review with insurance and hit it approved for me. The doctor and the insurance company both said that didn't happen, and peer reviews only occur if they are appealing a denial, Their intake paperwork states that patients are responsible for obtaining all prior authorizations, never mind that we lack the resources to submit paperwork to do so, the chief operating officer dismissively told me it doesn't really mean that, but apparently it does. They ordered an MRI for my son's knee and told me they would call within 24hrs to schedule didn't get a call for 4 days then the day before the appointment find out they sent the wrong name and information to the insurance. I showed up to an appointment that we scheduled together in my last visit but they did not have it in their system. So I drove out and back for nothing. Also, they are unable to take appointments when you're in their crown point location. I'm getting to the point where it may be time to find a provider that's easier to do business with. They were unable to reduce my neck pain and so I had to see a pain management doctor. She was able to get rid of my pain with a cortisone injection. The pain didn't return for 3 years. When it returned, I went to ATI Physical Therapy in Chesterton and they got rid of my pain and restored my full range-of-motion. Go to ATI in Chesterton, instead of here. As sole caregiver to my 93-year-old father, I interact daily with a wide-variety of medical professionals caring for him. The care, compassion and support he has received has been overwhelmingly positive. That is until went to Lakeshore Bone and Joint Institute located in Chesterton, IN and sought medical care and support for my father from Dr. Nath and her team. Dr. Nath relegates critical medical evaluations and diagnosis to Krista Nguyen, NP. Krista, in my opinion, has proven to be highly incompetent in providing medical care, direction and guidance. Based on my experience, her incompetence is only surpassed by her arrogance and insensitivity. It is unbelievable that as a patient under the care under of Dr. Nath, my father was never given the opportunity to meet with her face-to-face. Rather, my father only met with Krista. It would be impossible to detail how poorly Krista managed my father's care - there's far too much to document. However, in summary and again in my opinion, Krista should be ashamed of herself for how she performed and acted when entrusted with the care of my father. I shared this sentiment with Krista upon leaving our most recent and last visit with her - I would never subject my father (or anyone) to this type of poor and unprofessional behavior again. I am taking this opportunity to memorialize my assessment of Krista in this review. Krista's lack of competent care for her patients and her unprofessional and insensitive attitude causes me to suggest she find another profession - one in which there is no human interaction. This story has a happy ending. In no time at all, my father was referred to a new (and competent) pain doctor. In less than a week, he's been properly treated by a physician who is caring and knows what he is doing. This after working with Krista for several months and getting nowhere! If you or a loved one is seeking pain management care and direction, go to any doctor other than Dr. Nath and her staff. You won't regret it! read more

I'm fuming. I went to Lakeshore Bone & Joint in Chesterton to take my Nonnie to get an MRI. She has a very hard time getting around and she can't hear very well. She was wearing jewelry so when the tech called her back I reminded her to take it all off, which even that small task is hard for her. She was also wearing a wire bra and jeans, so when she was told that she had to remove them she knew it was going to be a task, but she didn't have a problem with it. The tech that took her back was SO impatient and basically ran in front of my grandma who walks with a cane, & she didn't help or even offer to help my Grandma with her clothing. To top it all off while I'm waiting in the waiting room for her to finish up the tech goes into the room with the front desk receptionist and I hear her TALKING SHIT about my grandma. She's complaining about how my grandma wore jeans and a bra and how she was having a hard time taking them off and how my grandma asked if she could keep them on because it's hard for her to remove them herself. So, I walked into that room and told her how dare she talk about my grandma like that. She's elderly, she's had multiple surgeries, and she can't hear out of one of her ears. How dare you talk about a patient in a facility where you are supposed to care for patients and their needs, and how dare you talk about my grandma in front of me with the door open. This is hands down the worst experience I have ever had at a medical facility where a patient is just receiving an MRI. read more

If I could give them zero stars I would. My 18 month old son was referred to this office by his pediatrician for an evaluation and possible treatment. The Xray tech and the doctor were both condescending and rude to me. I felt like I was defending myself and my son's pediatrician for being there. The doctor flat out asked me in the rudest tone what the pediatrician was hoping to accomplish by sending us there. He made me feel like I was wasting his time, and even if he felt my son would grow out of the condition that we were referred to him for he didn't have to be such a dick about it. read more

The majority of people at LBJI are kind and helpful. Unfortunately my specific experience has been with a nurse practitioner at the Valparaiso location who is less than professional. Natalie Eddy talks down to her patients and their family members and my observation is that she is quite rude to her staff as well. She would rather not answer patients' questions and first asks if they are relevant to the patient's healthcare. (Really?!) What else would we be asking about? The cost of refrigerators in Peru? Please avoid her at all costs; ANYONE would be more helpful than her. read more

My family member saw Dr. Kovalow-St. John several times for debilitating pain and disfigurement of several fingers. Dr. Kovalow-St. John referred her to a neurologist and when the neurologist wasn't able to come up with a diagnosis, she was referred to Dr. Kovalow-St. John again. Dr. Kovalow-St. John didn't offer any treatment or offer to refer her to anyone else. She was abrupt during visits and failed to timely return phone calls. Dr. Kovalow-St. John's failure to effectively listen to my family member symptoms to diagnose her condition resulted in many more months of soul-crushing unending intense pain and marked increase in the degree of deformity in her affected fingers. My family member gave up on r. Kovalow-St. John and sought treatment with another physician. A more competent doctor diagnosed her with lupus in one visit and recommended surgery. read more

Nurse more helpful than doctor. Ruptured achilles tendon that required surgery. I requested an MRI because i wanted to see what had happened. Had an appt to review the MRI a couple days before surgery He cancelled appt and said it agreed with what he diagnosed. (Which I still wanted to see what had happended), Not to mention every appt I had was moved to a different time. Then the day surgery was scheduled I am on table and he comes in and says he cant to surgery bcause me knee was swollen and filled with blood which everytime I went to office visit I pointed it out and it was very obvious. Si I had to leave there and go have blood drained off my knee and reschedule surgery. Then went to phusical therapy and dr appt and was told the numbness in my foot would go away when the selling went down. Which the swelling did go down however my left side of foot was totally numb. Went to Rush hospital and was told my nerves were dead and would never come back, due to the fact that I was cut a little off of where it should have been. Now year and half later I have to have recontructive surgery to fix my tendon, and sill still have permanent nerve damage. read more

I can't express how grateful I am to finally find someone who LISTENS to you !! Who honestly cares deeply about her clients and went beyond to help with my pain management. Helped me find some relief and diagnosis me with another problem that I had and was treated for. It truly Disgust me when you finally find a GENUINE NURSE OR DOCTOR and because of whatever reason they leave the practice. I was totally devasted to find out that Stephanie Andree will no longer be at LBJI. They have truly lost a very gifted, caring and huge asset to this organization. read more

I am very disappointed in the Valparaiso Lakeshore Bone and Joint. I had an appointment on the 13th but could not find my CD of xray so I called them and the girl who answered made it sound like no big deal...either come in (if I find it) or don't! I told her it probably would be best to make another appt and she suggested the following Wednesday. So I did find my CD and took off work early to drive to that location and when I got there they could not find me for an appointment. In fact, I was told that the previous week I was a NO SHOW! Even tho I had called! I was shocked and very disappointed. I won't be returning. The docs are good there from what I've heard but the staff leaves much to be desired. They know who was working that day...they should of apologized to me! read more

I have been to many of the physicians here and they are all amazing.I see Dr Nenadovich for my neck and back. Many orthos want to dive in and do surgery he is not one of them. His personality is great too he is very caring. Dr Nath and NPR Stefane Andree for pain management are both awesome. They are actually fun to talk to and their humor actually makes the wait worth it. Dr Nath does my cervical injections and I have to say I have no fear when I am there. She makes it very easy to get through. I just recently saw Dr Bruell who performed a surgery on my bone spur on my big toe..it was quite the surgery and the first 2 days were hard but then it was just as he explained. I am 4 weeks post surgery and walking normal. A friend had the same surgery elsewhere and she said it took months for her to feel right. The great part of this place is the family atmosphere from all of the physicians nurses and staff. They all talk together and really care about each patient. The wait times for the orthopedic appointments are usually pretty long but that must be because of the time they take with each patient. I highly recommend LSBJ for any of your Bone and Joint needs. read more

Went in for my shoulder came out with a shot of cortisone. I saw the doctors assistant for 10mins then the doctor for 2mins. I didn't go to the doctor to see an assistant still training!! Never again will i go back to this office! Also recommended was to do physical therapy, when i called their office they said no we dont have time for you and we dont take that insurance. The girl on the other end was such a bitch to me! I find it odd that the Dr can take my insurance but not the physical therapist?!
