There were only 3 children signed up for the "Kids Clay workshop", so there was plenty of opportunity for the teacher to provide one-on-one attention to them. There was not much direction or instruction from the teacher on how to prepare the clay or proper painting technique to use on clay. She did demonstrate how to attach items to clay by scraping. For this age, we felt there should have been more instruction on designing of the objects and directions on how to paint the clay, so when fired, the color would be more vibrant. The color of the completed pieces was very washed out, almost if they had been just painted with water color. The teacher said the project would be ready in 7 to 10 days and that we would receive a text when the pieces were ready to pick up. It took 21 days and we were never notified for pick-up. We had to personally check 3 times to see if project had been completed and was ready to pick up. Very disappointed in the service after paying over $80 for the class.

Now that I have moved back to NM and live in ABQ, I am elated to have an Artisans Store in my neighborhood. The new owners are super polite. Upon my entry, they gave me a warm greeting. The staff is terrific to work with and attentive. Although the pricing is a bit higher than buying online, the advantages of being able to see before I buy and the convenience of being local outweigh the disadvantages of buying sight unseen. Plus, who needs to make Bezos any richer? I prefer to support local and family businesses whenever I can. Then there's the social aspect of running into other creative peeps! The staff are all artists themselves and are conversant in their individual disciplines. It's too bad there isn't a way to expunge the old reviews that do not reflect the values of the new owners.

Unfortunately, the checkout experience completely ruined this visit. There were only self-checkout registers open and just one employee assisting customers. When one of the registers double-scanned an item, I needed help to fix it. It took nearly 20 minutes to get assistance because the single employee was overwhelmed helping multiple people. I understand staffing challenges happen, but waiting that long just to fix a scanning error is frustrating and unacceptable. If the store is going to rely primarily on self-checkout, there needs to be adequate staff available to assist customers quickly when issues come up. Great products, but the checkout process seriously needs improvement.
