They previously handled my grandmother's arrangements many years ago, and at that time my parents made pre-need plans. Sadly, when my father passed on February 28, 2026, those plans came into place. From the very first moment, Miller Funeral Home guided us through everything with extraordinary care and steadiness. I want to especially recognize Alex and Vlad, who came to our home the night my father passed. They arrived promptly after the hospice nurse contacted them, and from the moment they entered, their presence brought a sense of calm to an otherwise overwhelming time. They treated my father with profound dignity and respect. Every movement was gentle and deliberate, carried out with a sense of grace that is difficult to put into words, but left a lasting impression on our entire family. They gave us the space and time we needed for our final moments with him, and because of that, those memories feel peaceful rather than traumatic. That is an extraordinary gift. I also want to mention Nick, who was incredibly kind and supportive when we later came to pick up my father's death certificate. Every interaction with the staff reflected the same level of compassion and professionalism. The environment at Miller Funeral Home is calm, nurturing, and thoughtfully maintained. It is also a beautiful setting for services, as we experienced when honoring my grandmother. I recommend Miller Funeral Home without hesitation. They handle every detail with care, dignity, and humanity when it matters most.

Quick Summary: Beautiful facility, wonderful reception space, and genuinely kind and attentive…read morestaff overall. Unfortunately, Doug was the glaring exception. He was consistently rude, rigid, and contrarian, making an already difficult time unnecessarily stressful. It often felt like he was looking for reasons to say no or make things harder rather than help. As someone who worked in events, his attitude often felt opposite to the best practices I had seen (and came to expect) throughout the years. It's a shame, because nearly everything else about Green Valley - and everyone else we worked with - was lovely. More Details: We recently held my father's memorial service and reception at Green Valley. The facility is beautiful, particularly the reception space, with lots of natural light, large windows, a fireplace, flexible layout, and the sound of the waterfall outside. It was a warm, peaceful setting. The food was okay - the taco menu was a little unusual for our tastes because of the sweet chicken - but all the ingredients were high quality. The serving staff were wonderful: kind, attentive, and unobtrusive, keeping everything refreshed and clean. Nearly every staff member we encountered was warm and helpful. Unfortunately, our experience with Doug, who I believe is the director, was very different. Throughout planning, Doug had extremely strict parameters, some of which felt unnecessarily rigid or arbitrary. I understand they host services constantly and have valuable expertise, but recommendations often seemed to become rules. For example, Doug recommended limiting our slideshow to 40-50 photos. We worked hard to reduce ours to 90, allowing about seven seconds per image. He reluctantly agreed but charged us $5 per digital photo above his 50-photo limit as a "production fee." Hundreds of dollars to add digital images to a simple slideshow felt excessive and difficult to justify. In the end, the timing worked beautifully. His fees felt like petty price-gouging to an already expensive event. More troubling was his demeanor during setup and the event itself. Nearly every interaction made us feel like we were an inconvenience. We had previously confirmed that additional tables would be available, but when we asked for them, he resisted because he didn't want to put them away again if we didn't use them. Our setup window ended at 5:00. At 4:20, he came in and announced that it didn't look like we would finish in time and emphasized that we had to leave right at 5:00. Rather than a friendly reminder, it felt presumptive and confrontational. We were completely finished and out before 5:00. We were also told we could arrive early the next morning but cautioned that we couldn't just be "standing around" or "loitering" and needed to be actively doing something. It was an oddly adversarial way to speak to a grieving family preparing for a parent's memorial. Then, before the service, we were suddenly told everything had to be cleaned up and removed by 3:00 p.m. This had never been communicated. Green Valley's own event information (listed online BY Doug) said our reception would be from 12:00-3:00. No one had explained that 3:00 meant guests gone and cleanup completed. Had we known, we obviously would have planned accordingly. There were also interactions with guests that came across as rude - enough that guests independently mentioned them to us afterward. I worked in events for years, so I understand that venues need rules, timelines, and boundaries. But there is a difference between setting reasonable parameters and making clients feel like an inconvenience. And this isn't an ordinary event venue - these are grieving families planning funerals and memorials. Kindness, clear communication, and basic hospitality matter enormously. Despite this, we ultimately had a beautiful memorial for my father. The venue was lovely, the reception ran smoothly, and the rest of the staff deserve recognition for their warmth and attentiveness. It's unfortunate that one person's demeanor added so much unnecessary stress to an otherwise positive experience. Green Valley has so much going for it, and our experience could easily have been exceptional. I hope this feedback is taken seriously, because families coming through these doors deserve the same compassion from leadership that we received from the rest of the staff. Observing him throughout the day, Doug came across as an anxious micromanager who seemed to turn even small interactions into a power trip (with both staff and guests). My advice to families considering Green Valley would be to be prepared to advocate for yourselves and be assertive with Doug; otherwise, his rigidity can easily steamroll your preferences at a time when you're already grieving and particularly vulnerable.

What appears to be an old dilapidated house is actually the original St. John the Baptist Church, established in 1857. Apparently, it was Folsom's only Catholic church for over 100 years. The building across the street, which currently houses The Bridge Community Church, was built as a new location for St. John's, but was later sold when the newest location on Montrose was completed. According to St. John's website, this old building, which is now considered a historical landmark, is still used for special occasions, such as weddings and holiday masses. Personally, I haven't seen the inside of the church, but the outside is in serious need of restoration. To me, the most interesting features of this landmark are the historical tomb stones. Some of them have fascinating inscriptions. Some have tacky gates around them that look like they belong in a cheesy Halloween movie. And some appear to be forgotten and neglected in the back of the yard. The grass is very overgrown, and the property does not seem to be very well maintained, overall. Other than that, though, this is a cool cemetery with a chill history. EDIT: I'm not sure why it was edited, but the correct address is, in fact, 1100 NATOMA STREET. The address that it was edited to on Montrose is the address for the replacement church that was built many decades later.

It's a bit of an exercise in trust having them pick up your loved one's remains and then, without even a final viewing, cremate and return the ashes in an urn. Sutter updated me throughout the entire process - when the remains arrived at the mortuary, when the cremation process began, when the death certificate was issued and when we could come by for the pickup. I have also chosen to be directly cremated when it is my time and I would not think twice about having Sutter Cremation perform this final act of service for me.

Very odd experience with this business. I'll begin my review by saying I first called Green Valley…read moreMortuary, and after being quoted nearly $3000 for a basic cremation, I decided to call other businesses. Before I hung up, the woman at green valley mortuary cautioned me that other places will "ship my loved one all over the place to do the cremation" and stated that they would treat her remains so much better because they do their own cremation..... this info ties into the rest of my review so keep it in mind as your read. Fast forward to the next day, spoke to "sutter cremation" and was quoted a more reasonable price for the service we were looking for. We gave all of the needed info over the phone and went in the next morning to sign paperwork and pay in full. We paid for specific services, including expediting the cremation and courier service to go physically get the death certificates we paid for. Throughout the whole situation "sutter cremation" never ONCE reached out to us to update us about what was happening. After several days without hearing from them we called and asked what was going on. We were absolutely horrified to learn that they hadn't picked up our loved one from the hospital and they blamed it on the coroner. We had been in constant contact with the coroner AND the hospital and were well aware that the coroner was not holding up any release of our loved ones remains and that her body had been cleared for pickup hours after she passed away. Several more days passed and we called again to find out what was going on and were told they "thought" they had picked up our loved one but would call back after checking. They never called back and after a few more days I called again because the week to week and a half turn around time we paid extra for had long passed. When I called I was informed that the cremation had taken place and we could pick up the remains- if we hadn't called, we probably would have never known. We had made them aware that we lived hours away and needed to plan to be there but they simply didn't care. I spoke to a "manager" and let them know how disappointed we were in the whole experience. The last thing you want to do after losing an immediate family member is deal with failure to communicate and lack of professionalism. I told them we expected to be refunded the amount that we paid extra to expedite the cremation and they said they would ask the owners and call me back. Now HERE is where things get interesting. When they called back, they left a message saying that yes they would refund us..... however, the woman identified herself as working for GREEN VALLEY MORTUARY. So seems like green valley mortuary owns sutter cremation and they try to get the inflated cost from people who simply call the mortuary but offer the cheaper service through sutter cremation to those who think $3000 is a bit much for a simple cremation. Since green valley mortuary told me they do all their own cremations I would assume they do all of sutter cremations as well. Just seems very shady to me and like they prey on people and try to get more money out of them. In the end they did refund the cost we paid to expedite the cremation. When we picked up the remains we all just wanted to get out of there but we noticed when we got home that the urn had tons of scratches and rust spots. We didn't want to deal with this shady company anymore so we just let it go. My family member died well over a month ago and we haven't ever received the death certificates (which we paid extra for and also paid extra for the courier to physically pick them up) nor have we received any further communication from sutter cremation whatsoever. I could NEVER recommend this company and we are very unhappy with the entire experience.
