My son and I were there Sunday the 19th to visit my sister and her husband and my parents. We could not locate my parents so we went to the front office and a young gentleman drove us right there gave us a map cause that's where I'm going to be is with them when I'm needed to be put in a grave. Trying to preplan a burial site for a disabled relative in another state to be placed next to his mother in Mount Vernon memorial park in Fair Oaks CA. The crypt was transferred from ex step father to disabled son. We were told all was in order, now we are told person we were dealing with no longer works there and no documentation can be found. In hopes of helping the lack of communication we were receiving from this establishment we got our funeral representative from the state we live in now and the one doing the preplanning for the disabled son, to contact Mount Vernon Memorial. Hoping another constituent in the same field might prompt some professionalism and a return call. Sadly it was a waste of time for not only us but this funeral planners time. No one has the time to talk or return calls. Communication is extremely poor. We have decided not to put our loved one in their care and are opting for other options. We purchased preplanning from Lauren and not once not twice but three times we explained that we need to have the person's body cremated in California, and then the cremation sent to Texas. She assured us 100% that two locations could be used as long as they did in fact, use part of the dignity memorial pre-service. Both of the places we selected did however they flat out refused after they did the removal of the body and had the body. They refused to cremate it and ship the remains. However, they agreed to ship the body where they could make more of a profit and up charge from the pre-covered cost. I can't endorse this business. They won't call us back. Something is a very mess here. A Better Business Bureau complaint will be filed. If they don't handle this issue within a few business days this is just a bad time and they're making it worse. read more

My father passed in 2014. I paid for a funeral insurance plan while he lived with me. After he moved in with my sister, he passed away. I was told by a representative that I was to be ignored when inquiring any information regarding his arrangements, per my sister as she was his DPOA. Yesterday, 11/13/25, I discovered that any DPOA expires with the death of the person. Mount Vernon had no authority to disenfranchise me from my father's funeral arrangements and added to my grief during the early days of my father's death. It was not professional and did not reflect the compassion to surviving family members I thought that Mount Vernon claimed to have. I encourage any family member with any type of difficulty in communicating with Mount Vernon to be diligent in resolving their issue or to contact an attorney. read more

I have been contacting them for 2 1/2 months and they don't return phone calls, voice mails or any other messages. My mother that passed away had purchased the Urn and Niche and it took two emails before they responded acknowledging that they resceived the contract and receipt and said that the are researching their records. I was given Matthew and Mark to be my contact persons. They are never availible at the time you call and do not return calls unless you demand to talk to the Director, threaten to file a claim wth the State Board or attorney. I told the receptionist that I filed a claim with the State Board. Afterwhich I received a call from Matthew and was finally told about the service times and scheduling. The passing of my mother is difficult enough but adding this is totally disrepectful. As she was a veteran I asked about an Honor Guard Service and was told by Matthew that he doesn't help with that but another person within the business does. I will be doing this myself as with the service I have received I would not begin to trust them to be able to communcate to me about it and arrange it without months of the same bad service and lack of communication. Only after telling about contacting the State Board and posting this review have I been receiving calls, having calls returned or any other communication. They did a wonderful job helping us set up a memory table and put together the music. Her service exceeded my expectations, and the staff was polite and respectful. The live stream was a big help to all my mom's out of state relatives, and they even had a recording of it for those who missed it live. I couldn't be more pleased. My mother recently passed away and we chose Mount Vernon for her cremation, funeral, and placing her in a beautiful Niche. They handle everything so sweet from picking up your loved one to funeral arrangements etc. The evening my mom passed, two ladies came to pick her up. They gave us as much time as we needed and did not rush the process at all. They took great care of her when having to transport her. That experience made my heart happy and I knew my mother would be in good care. Our funeral director Ashley helped us a ton. She treated us like family. She took care of anything I needed or had questions on. I received quick replies from her always. I was having trouble making a decision of keeping my mom's ashes as a whole or putting some in jewelry. Ashley knew it was a hard decision for me so she let me know I didn't have to make the decision right away. She gave me literally the latest time so I can make sure to make the right decision. She also made my sister an I a pillow from the goodness of her heart that was made out of my moms gown and blanket she used. It also had a laminated picture of my mom and in the back it said "This is the nightgown and blanket I used to wear. Whenever you hold it, know that I am there" Love, Mom This was the sweetest thing anyone could have done for us. It really puts me at peace when I am missing her a ton. I can't end this without also thanking Oscar. I hope that was his name. He works outside and when my dad and I went there one day he offered to show us other beautiful resting places in that area. He did not have to as it was not his job but he sure went out of his way to show us and we are very grateful for that. Day prior to my mom's funeral my dad wanted to make sure her Niche he purchased was cleaned and ready for my mom the next day which was her funeral but not the day she was going to be put to rest. Oscar said don't worry he will make sure everything is cleaned and fixed up and said he'd make sure he would do it himself. The next day we arrived and everything was perfect and cleaned. The funeral was beautifully put together. They made it so easy for us. They put out the flowers and decorated everything before we got there. We had an open casket for my mom before cremation and this may be odd to say but she looked beautiful and well dressed in her outfit. They put together a video of pictures we provided them. There was well over 160 photos that they had to individually scan crop and put together in a musical video that was shown at my mom's funeral. There was also a sign in book they provided and in that book on each page at the bottom was a picture of my mom that we provided. The rest of the 100+ photos were scanned in back of that book. I was amazed with all the details. That day I did not only cry because I missed my mom so much. I cried because the whole ceremony could not have gone any better. I know my mom would never have expected something this amazing. The help of all the staff from beginning to end made our experience wonderful. I need to also mentioned the ladies at the desk when you first walk in the door are always pleasant and offers you a drink and gets you help right away. Everyone that help put the funeral together I would like to say thank you from the bottom of mine and my families heart. You all are the best! read more

Once again, visited family gravesites at Mount Vernon (Four Gospel area) only to find it an absolute mess. Lawn not mowed,several vases with dead flowers left in them, dead lawn and just overall ugly. This is the second time I have left a negative review. There is no excuse for the lack of upkeep especially since the cost to be buried there is very expensive. We drove down there to speak to them and she was always busy! I visited Mount Vernon Cemetery today (5-31-23) to place flowers on some family gravesites. The grounds were absolutely horrible and ugly! The lawn where my family is buried was mostly dead, the lawn was full of weeds and had not been moved for a very long time. In the areas we're there are pavers it was riddled with weeds And the nearby garbage can was overflowing. I had this same issue about four months ago and when I complained they apologized and said it would be taken care of. Today I spoke with the "Manager" who said they had been having problems with the previous landscaping company and we're going to get a new one. However when I said I would be back in a few weeks he told me it would NOT be fixed by then. They can afford to build a brand new mausoleum for people to buy plots, however, they can't seem to figure out how to work a lawnmower and show respect to the people buried there and their family. During my mom's funeral I didn't play a big part in her burial but when it came to my father's funeral I helped out on arranging his funeral. (BTW this is all pre-covid so business was resuming as usual) Believe it or not, on the day of the funeral AND during the procession to the burial site, I was tipped off that Mount Vernon did NOT have the correct date of the burial down and nothing has been prepared despite multiple emails confirming the exact date and time. I'm not sure if the people I was working with were just high, incompetent, or both, but I absolutely would not ever use them again and will tell others the same too. Yes the ground are beautiful but that's all there is about it. My family currently has another outstanding issue and my family has been working with them on and I refuse to deal with them as yes, I'm still upset and its been 7 months. My mother passed away in March. She and Pop prepaid for everything, including Mom's name being added besides Pop's name to the headstone. I guess in hind sight that I should have gone over every detail listed in the Pre-need contract. Our experience began with a conference call that one member was late to. Not only late, but unprepared. We were asked questions that were answered in the contract. The day we witnessed Mom's ashes being laid next to Pop her name was no where on the headstone. I've been told they found the details regarding her headstone and will work to make right. Unfortunately, we just learned it takes 6 to 8 months for marker to be made. During one of the most difficult moments in my life, I was blessed to find Mt Vernon mortuary and funeral home. My husband passed away very suddenly and unexpectedly. In a very short period of time, I had to make a lot of important choices and decisions. I called several funeral homes and personally visited quite a few too. None of them even came close to Mt Vernon in the level of excellence they offered. From the grounds, to the building, to the staff and the options available to me, it became very clear, very quickly, that Mt Vernon would be the best choice to appropriately honor my husband's life. The staff responded quickly to my questions both online and in person. They made sure we were comfortable (even had warm chocolate chip cookies and bottled waters available while my family and I completed the paperwork needed to set up my husbands service). That may sound trivial, but when you have so much to do, you don't have the mindset to stay hydrated and fed. They make sure you have these things available. My family appreciated it. It brought such comfort. I had the privilege of working with Haley throughout the whole process. She is the most compassionate, patient, understanding, well educated person. She took time to explain every detail of the process. She listened very closely to everything that was said. She even picked up on some things that I mentioned about my husband and incorporated beautiful special touches into the plan for my husband memorial. She accommodated me and my family with anything we wanted to do to make his celebration of life the most special event it could have ever been. Haley never tried to hard sell us options we did not want or need. She did offer many options, but never made us feel obligated to do them. She literally helped us tailor what would make us happy. She handled things professionally, effectively and in a very timely manner. Her follow up was 100%. One of the many things they provide is a "memories book". Haley allowed me to take a little extra time to post pictures and memories on line. Now my family and I have a beautiful book to share with generations to come. It is a book of honor and tribute to my husband. The chapel was just perfect for our needs. The staff designed it to really reflect the essence of who my husband is. I was able to bring in various items that remind people of his hobbies and interests and the staff made it look stunning and honoring. I have made new friends through their accommodating staff. I don't think that would have happened if I would have chosen a different funeral home. You really can't go wrong by choosing Mt. Vernon Mortuary to handle your funeral home requirements. Driving in the cemetery I noticed the well manicured lawns, what you see from the busy street. Once you get to the Court of Honor things change drastically. Literally bury your loved one anywhere else. If I could give zero stars I would. They are so quick to get their money but never respond. Been dealing with them for 3 years and still not finished. They lost sentimental pictures of my dad after I sent them to them. The person I was communicating with left the company and they never followed up with us on next steps. We had to continuously call them to figure out what was going on and they would never respond. Not to mention, during my dads funeral they were more concerned with selling me a plot for my mom and grandma than helping with any arrangements. We buried my mom at this cemetery in 2017. Little did we know the space they sold us has a MAJOR geese problem because the gravesites in this area leave full plates of food for their deceased loved ones. I have called numerous times, visited in person and emailed and everyone just passes the buck. NOTHING has been done. They have turned off the fountains in front of the cemetery with hopes the geese would go away. Which is sad because the fountains make it look nice. They've brought in dogs to scare them off. I'm not suggesting that the geese should be harmed because it isn't their fault. But when there are FULL plates of food left for them all around the area my mom is buried in, of course the geese are going to keep coming back for more. Last time I was there I saw geese eating fire Cheetos out of bag that was left. Is that even good for them?!! My moms headstone and bench is sometimes covered in goose poop. I have to wipe down the soles of my shoes because I have so much goose poop on them. If my sisters and I had known that this area of the cemetery has this issue, we would've NEVER EVER buried her there. Other areas don't have this issue. I can't even sit at my moms gravesite without being chased down by geese. I have photos. I have videos. I will not stop telling everyone about this until they give me a resolution. read more

While being a minister for over thirty years who has done hundreds of funerals, I thought I would be able to handle the witnessing of my father's cremation with resolve. Instead I found myself in need of compassionate understanding. I found that caring, comforting concern from Mount Vernon's location manager Kerri London and the staff of Mount Vernon. There is a comfortable room for viewing next to the cremation area. A room much more well done than any other mortuary I have been to in all my years of ministry. As I was very concerned about getting my father's ashes appropriately, they gave me every proof possible that I was receiving his ashes. I have to give Kerri and all at Mount Vernon high marks for respectfulness, kindness, empathy and a job WELL DONE!! read more

Considering it's a grave you would assume the people who work here are nice to their customers but not at all. I spoke to someone on the phone regarding grave cleanings, and she was immediately giving attitude - Not helpful and was also being really sarcastic. Also this grave's only form of communication is signs they put on their gates regarding grave cleanings.They don't even bother to post the cleaning schedule online, so it makes it hard for everyone. This place needs to do a better job of communicating and being more friendly. read more

On the morning of my father's passing, the staff from Mt Vernon came to my mother's home to take my father to their facility. They were respectful, professional and allowed the dignity my dad deserved. We then met with Grace and Marta, who helped my family through the difficult process of planing my dad's services. He was a retired military, which came with additional honors for his service. They were accommodating to our specific needs and requests. During the entire process, Grace and staff were always keeping us informed on the progress of each phase necessary to proceed with my father's funeral. Once you bury your loved one, you might as well forget about respect and service. Once the burial is over, no one seems to care, especially Jeffrey Forrey, the general manager. He never calls the family members back and never addressed issues. Every time you ask the "Member Service" representatives to ask him to call you back, he is either on vacation or not available. They always say:"You can call and leave a message for him and he will call you back." Needless to say, he never does. During the Winter time, there are so many graves and stones that are under water that is unbelievable, especially the South East side. You can tell those graves are the old ones and sunk into the ground that no one bothers to readjust and bring up to the surface. In the Summer time, the grass is mostly dead or very close to it. They didn't even have a fence to keep unwanted folks and thieves out until last year when hundreds of vases were stolen from the graves. When the families asked the Park to replace them, their response was: "Our insurance does not cover it." Is that the families' responsibility if you under insure your property? It is still your property, isn't it? Putting a small bench by the grave site will cost you a couple of thousand dollars because you have to buy the plot first and then you can only order from their catalog that is extremely overpriced. I am not surprised by the rating of this Memorial Park. There is no respect for your loved ones there. Just pay them and go away. That is what they want you to do. They simply don't care. read more

My grandmother passed away earlier this year. It was really rough at the end and my mom and aunt were a total mess trying to take care of Gram. When she passed, I came up to help out. Lucky I did, because the hospice company, for reasons I can't fathom, had arranged for Gram to be taken to Mount Vernon. These people had the gall to charge us not only $600 for the ride from our house to them- less than a mile- but to try to extort FOUR THOUSAND dollars out of my family for a simple cremation of a tiny old lady. I can't imagine how they can sleep at night. We bailed Gram out of there as soon as we could and took her to a lovely little family funeral home. They charged us less than $1000 for cremation and the pickup was included free. I'll never forget the look on that funeral salesman's face when we told him we were taking Gram back from them. He looked like I had taken a crap on his shoes. Please- for your sake and your family's sake, do some research before committing to a funeral home. Mount Vernon ruined my godfathers funeral! During the whole planning process the funeral directors were extremely unresponsive. During the service, they couldn't even play a simple slideshow presentation. Our funeral director came to the service with a SANTA CLAUS HAWAIIAN SHIRT AND FLIP FLOPS!!! The assistant Emily gave the worst attitude to the situation and was highly unprofessional. Even after the service they promised they would contact us for the next steps but we waited all day and we still HAD TO REACH OUT TO THEM! We believe we could trust Mount Vernon but we were wrong. This whole process was exhausting and painful for the amount of time we as a family dedicated to make this service the best to our abilities but the staff were completely at fault. Even during the service, I have to run the whole service myself and go back and forth from the service to the back room to get the service running. The staff were not in the room assisting to make the service go smoothly. Just unbelievable and the service was extremely embarrassing. I know my godfather would not have wanted his funeral to turn out the way it did. I do not wish this pain upon on anyone else. So please do not honor your loved ones here. I am in the process of helping my 100 year old mother do a pre-paid burial. She purchased her plot in 1985. We were told that he vault was waiting there. Now we find out the only thing she has is a patch of dirt. If I want to have her put in my Father's vault I have to over $5,000 property fee. Outrageous. The woman I spoke 5 days after visiting Mount Vernon couldn't even remember me, my name (I repeated it three times and my Mom's). Her excuse.
