All the rooms were decorated beautifully, and the Christmas decorations and tree added a festive mood. Our room was very comfortable and spotless. The plush robes were an added luxury. Come to the breakfast table hungry for you will be fed a delicious, gourmet, breakfast. Fresh fruit, homemade blueberry muffins, and a "Dutch baby" pancake that was so very tasty. And homemade sausage was a treat! Top that off with hot coffee as you gaze out the window looking at the lake. All this plus wonderful conversation with our hosts made our stay at the Loch House one that we will always remember. We highly recommend a stay at the Loch House.

We were greeted on arrival by two super friendly but well behaved dogs, Buddy and Bella. Our room was very clean and serenely decorated with it's own bathroom (nice claw foot tub). The sheets felt like a thousand thread count sheets if there is such a thing. No in room TV, but Linksys WiFi was there so I watched Netflix with earphones. Nice in room fireplace for ambiance. The breakfast was amazing beyond words. Everything was expertly homemade and served on a well set dining room table that sat 6. First, fresh fruit cocktail with raspberries, nuts, melon, grapes and pineapple. Second, sticky buns the likes of which I've never had. Third, croissant made with egg, potatoes and Canadian bacon. Fourth, challah French toast with local syrup. It was Mother's Day and all the ladies received a rose. Very nice hiking to the top of Mt Severance nearby. You'll love the view. The Inn is run by a lovely couple Cheryl and John who couldn't have been more helpful. We originally reached out by email, which was respond to quickly. Then the email was followed up with phones for payment, which was extremely reasonable for this over the 4th. After speaking with them it felt like we had known them for years. It was relatively easy to find, even in the dark country roads, and her hospitality was warm and caring. The grounds are truly beautiful and her rooms were very comfortable. Laura made us a big breakfast and even satisfied our picky 12-year-old by making his eggs different than ours! This place was like finding a special gem. Positives: Contactless check-in: I booked online and received an email with my room number and door code the day before. We were able to arrive at our convenience and got into the room without any issues. Ambiance: We stayed in a 2-queen room, which was clean and modern. There were thoughtful touches throughout that made us feel welcome, like decaf coffee pods for the Keurig, a mini fridge with a freezer, a microwave with cup o' noodles and oatmeal packets, and a small entryway table. Beds: Very comfortable with plenty of bedding--sheets, a fleece blanket, and a comforter, making for a cozy winter stay. Parking: The parking right outside our room was incredibly convenient, especially with all our luggage for our brief visit as part of a much longer itinerary. We also appreciated that the lot was kept clear and well-plowed despite the snowfall. Location: Just a short distance from downtown Schroon Lake, with nearby restaurants and Lake Placid within an hour's drive. Opportunities for Improvement: Odor: There was a faint smell in the room--nothing overpowering, but noticeable. After a while, I stopped noticing it, though every time I returned, it would remind me it was there. Inconsistent water temperature: After a cold day outside, I was hoping for a hot shower but could only get lukewarm water. Later, the water from the bathroom faucet was scalding, which was frustrating. Bathroom: The bathroom could use some updating to match the rest of the room. The walls and tub were a bit yellowed, there was some dirt and dust in the corners, and there wasn't any counter space for toiletries. Overall, this is a solid place to stay if you're looking for somewhere comfortable and affordable to rest during a weekend of adventures.

A couple of warnings: you are staying in a house that was built over a hundred years ago. All things considered, it's in great shape, but as of now, the exterior drastically needs a paint job. The Victorian nature of the house makes it look a little like the Psycho house. Don't give up, just go inside! However, once you are inside, you are in heaven. Karen is the nicest person you could imagine hosting a B&B. She was very excited to be sold out for a special event at the Star Trek tour. The place looks great inside (see my photos). We stayed in the Rose Room. The room was huge, with a very good bed. The bathroom is large as well. We loved everything about it, except for two small things. The jacuzzi tub does not have a shower. I did not notice this when reserving the room. Of course, a bath is fine. The only other complaint I have is that the wifi did not work in our room. It's a very big house, so I was not completely surprised. Our cell phones worked fine (Verizon). Wifi worked fine in the living room, which is also a very comfortable area. There is a flat-screen TV with Hulu in the living area (which happens to have the Star Trek episodes...). There are very large lawn areas outside the house, which would be perfect for events like wedding. I saved the best for last. The breakfasts are amazing. All home-made. In four days I put on three pounds! With my wife being vegan, we are used to getting no choice for breakfast, but she gave multiple vegan options every day we were there. KAren is really sweet and tries very hard to make everyone happy!
