I just had the easiest root canal experience at Lakewood Dental with Dr. Regina Serafica, DDS!! I have had a real fear of dentists throughout my life, requiring some kind of anti-anxiety medication beforehand. Well, this appointment came up from a cancellation. So I didn't have time to get anxious. Besides that, I had filings done last week, without needing novocaine! Yes, the anxiety neurotic that I once was, found a dentist who explains everything she is doing before doing it. She is calm, relaxed and very kind!!! I literally got the call of an appointment opening up and I went without hesitation! She used novocaine and was very conscientious in making sure I had no pain during the root canal process. It wasn't an easy process, but it was harder on her than me. She was so caring and compassionate! I am overwhelmingly grateful to have found her!!! Absolutely criminal that this office is allowed to remain in business. Contacted the office to inquire about getting a root canal on a pre-molar. Was already 100 percent sure that I needed the root canal, as I had already been in the process of having another dental office do the work, but had to back out due to their failure to communicate with my insurance. Came into the office for the appointment. Despite having already spoken at length to a man on the phone - the same man who was assisting me in person- he had no idea why I was there or what the appointment was for. So I reiterated the issue and he told me immediately "Just so you know, we won't be able to do anything to help you today." This was alarming as I had communicated over the phone that I was already in alot of pain from the tooth that needed the root canal and I was attempting to have this done as quickly as possible, which I had been assured on the phone that they would take that into account. Got back into the chair and the man- honestly not even sure if he was a dentist or not? He never clarified his position to me, and I never interacted with another person- performed the most basic oral exam possible. Didn't even look at the area I told him was bothering me other than to confirm it was a premolar and tell me I had given him the wrong tooth number over the phone. No percussion, no little mirror to look at the tooth, just a brief visual inspection from the outside. At that point he asked "Are you sure you need a root canal? Is the tooth even hurting?" Honest to god I thought he was being sarcastic or something because YES THE TOOTH WAS HURTING. He did the xrays and complained throughout that he was unable to get clear images of several sections of my mouth. When he did the xrays of the tooth that was bothering me, he immediately commented that both of my upper left premolars were visibly infected on the xray. Despite there being a visible infection and my stating multiple times that I was in excruciating pain, no antibiotics or pain medication were prescribed. I was told that the doctor would submit a request for approval for my root canal and then they would call me to schedule a follow up appointment once they had the approval. Within a week, the infection in my tooth had progressed to the point that it was impacting both my vision and hearing. I had to contact emergency medical services at my primary care provider and beg for an antibiotic because of how swollen my face was. I called Medi-Cal as well to try and inquire about expediting the approval process. I was told that there was no approval TO expedite- they had not received anything from the dental office. I called the dental office back and spoke to the same man and was floored at how rude he was to me. Interrupted me multiple times while I was trying to explain my situation and pretty much yelled at me that it had only be 6 days since my appointment so there was nothing the office would do for me because obviously there wouldn't be an approval from Medi-Cal after only 6 day. When he finally let me speak long enough to clarify that Medi-Cal said they hadn't even received an approval request, he told me I was wrong and that the request had been sent in by mail so it would take at least 2 weeks for Medi-Cal to receive it. At this point I was actively sobbing from pain and asked him if the root canal could be done out of pocket, and he said he would go to his desk and look into it and then call me back. Which he never did. Ultimately I had to seek out the services of an emergency dentist in Healdsburg who was able to see me same day. I spent nearly 7 hours in the dental chair and received local anesthetic 13 different times due to the severity of the infection resulting in the acidity consuming the Novocain as it was administered. The work was spread across 3 visits and cost 4500 dollars out of pocket. Several weeks after my initial appointment with the emergency dentist, I received notification from Medi-Cal that the request for the root canal had been denied as the submitted documentation suggested I was in a stable medial condition. I was stunned- how in the world was a dental infection so severe be considered "stable"? So I called Medi-Cal again and asked what was going on. Turns out the dentist had submitted the paperwork with the low quality xrays that they knew WHILE THEY WERE TAKING THEM were too low quality, and when Medi-Cal reached out to let them know the xrays weren't good enough, they ignored the request for additional documentation. Medi-Cal never received anything from the office. The office never contacted me to schedule better xrays, or to let me know the approval had been denied. Medi-Cal was upset on my behalf, provided me the number to file a complaint with the dental board, and paperwork to submit for total reimbursement. You know it's bad when Medi-Cal is telling you a dentist was incompetent. read more

This place does not deserve the single star I'm required to give them. If you go in without a fear of dentistry, they will give you one. If you are already nervous, they do nothing to put you at ease, and instead confirm that your dread was warranted all along. This dentist's methods are careless and medieval at best, outright sadistic at worst. When I went in for my extraction, there was exactly one dentist, Dr. Regina Serafica, on staff. There were NO other patients, no hygienist... I don't even remember there being music. The office was eerily silent and it did not bode well. I told her, before she began, that I required extra lidocaine... that my regular dentist gives me twice the usual amount because I have larger than average nerves in all my teeth. So she gave me a couple of badly placed shots, then, without waiting for the anesthetic to kick in, she started sticking and jamming the tooth and surrounding area with something sharp and asking if it hurt--and did not believe me when I said it did. "Is it pain or it is pressure?" she kept saying, and she grabbed at the poor infected premolar with a clamp and wrenched it back and forth. I asked her if she planned on injecting the back of the jaw, as this is what my dentist does to fully numb the area, and she ignored the question and instead attacked the gums some more with her syringe--tons of rapid sticking motions, far too short to actually do any good. Well, the pain was only getting worse not better, so at last she gave me the requested shot (much more sloppily and painfully than my regular dentist), then left the stall to deal with a newly arrived patient. While I was waiting and my mouth was filling up with blood, it occurred to me finally to check out their yelp page. So I dug out my phone and did just that, only to discover some real horror stories from others who'd had similar experiences. I got up and left. That's right... walked out the door with my bib still on. I'm no stranger to dental work. I know roughly how things are supposed to go down, and this was not how. I was in agony, and I had to make an emergency visit to another dental office. This was almost a week ago now, and my gums are still torn up, discolored, swollen, and painful on that side. The tooth bleeds and is looser than before. Luckily I am having it extracted next week by a qualified professional. It is also worth mentioning that before they work on you, you're required to initial an extensive waiver essentially exempting them from all legal responsibility should you end up with an infection or a fractured jaw or a chipped tooth next to the pull sight. It was also clear, in reading the description of the procedure, that they don't even stitch you up afterward, just leave the hole open to form a "blood bubble." And to think they are listed under oral surgeons. Ridiculous. Anyone would be better than this... Russian River, Western Dental, your creepy uncle with a pair of pliers... literally anyone. Worst dental experience I've ever had, and I had braces for 3 years and had the roof of my mouth rotted out when I had them. The first and only time I went there, it was the first time I went to the dentist on my own (without my parents, we tend to book our cleanings together). It was for a routine teeth cleaning. The receptionist was very nice and pleasant. That's where the pleasantness ended though. After being lead to a chair, I waiting for 30 minutes (there were no other patients there). The dentist and her assistant finally showed up, and dove right in. The assistant shoved the suction thing into my mouth, up into my gums. It hurt. He never moved it again for the rest of the cleaning. They both talked with each other over me and basically acted as if I didn't exist. I don't even know why he was there, aside from putting the suction thing in my mouth, he didn't do anything else. Stuff started to dribble out of my mouth and onto my face, chin, and down my shirt. They didn't even put a bib on me. When they were done, they just walked away. Didn't say a word to me. I waited 10 minutes, then finally walked out. My entire mouth hurt, and my teeth felt gritty. I've never had a dentist be so rough and uncaring before. My mom had the worst experience. She had a deep cleaning and the dentist only stabbed her with numbing a few times and started right in, not even waiting for it to take effect. We nicknamed her Dr. Torture. First, I want to state that I am grateful for all dentists who have been open and treating patients during the pandemic. My own dentist wasn't so I was referred out to Lakewood when a childhood filling of mine failed and needed replacing. That said, I have never been treated more rudely by a medical professional in my life. Dr. Regina started the appointment by telling me she was going to spray water on my tooth to check for sensitivity. Instead of spraying water she just started drilling my tooth. She started the appointment by lying to me, putting me in a position where I had to let her continue because my tooth was now drilled open and my regular dentist wasn't able to fix it themselves. She was also doing all of this without ever injecting numbing. She did eventually numb me after I told her I would be more comfortable if she did before drilling more. On top of that she had no assistant to spray my mouth with water. By the time I was able to close my mouth it had been open for nearly an hour drying out. When I was able to moisten it again the skin on the roof of my mouth was peeling off. I was so terrified throughout the whole appointment that my legs kept shaking no matter what I did to try to calm myself. This was met with annoyance. I am fairly certain that she drilled my tooth for much longer than needed (about 45 min of drilling) which caused me to need to go back to my regular dentist, when they opened back up, and get a root canal to fix it. My current dentist is no longer referring people to Lakewood because of the number of complaints the received. I honesty just don't understand why Dr. Regina is in this field at all. After reading all the other reviews recounting very similar experiences it is clear that she wasn't just having an off day with me, and that this is very common behavior for her. I would hope Dr. Regina would either change careers or work on her emotional health and not cause any more patients to suffer. read more

Dr. Regina P. Serafica I was there today 10/28/20 at 9:00 am to finish up a root canal. When I made an appointment with you prior to this incident, I requested to be injected with anesthesia (Lidocaine) in order to have any work done. I had explained to you and Peter that I experience extreme dental sensitivity and upon agreement that you would inject me with anesthesia I would proceed with seeking attention in your dental office. Yesterday you did not anesthetize me, you caused me tremendous pain and discomfort to the point I was nauseous and feeling like I could faint. During the procedure, when you had me screaming and squealing from the pain, that was a good indication that I needed to be anesthetized not just apply the topical gel on me, which you saw did nothing to ease discomfort and pain. You kept dropping pins on my face, you dropped an instrument and you picked it up and only wiped with an alcohol wipe and used it on me. When you both had me laying down and taking x-rays, Peter bangs all the metals I had in my mouth with the X-ray arm. All this cause me tremendous pain. I also let you both know that I had my wisdoms removed Saturday and that I was still swollen. This was not taken under consideration when you roughly grabbed me by my cheeks to reposition my head or when you angrily used your saliva ejector almost sucking my left side where one of the wisdoms was extracted. Once your 11:00 patient arrived, you also tried to rush your work on me, only causing more pain and not caring to stop regardless of my vocal expression of pain and discomfort. You left me with a filling that is rough almost sharp, not to mention the amount of tenderness and pressure and pain it's giving me. I am terminating future dental work with you and seeking completion of treatment elsewhere. Someone else has to clean up this mess you left me with. It was, by all means, a traumatic experience, which has given me a great deal of emotional distress causing anxiety, pain, and discomfort. I came to you with private insurance, it's not like you aren't getting paid to be providing such horrible torturous service to patients. Hopefully, this won't have to be escalated to seeking legal help. Horrible place !!! I filed a complaint with the DBC, hopefully, more people will do so as well and get her practice shutdown. After recently getting medical I began calling around and asking dentists how far out their appointments were. This was the soonest I was able to find booking me an appointment on November 6th. A couple hours later they called me and said they could take me the next day. (Only reason I am not giving 1 star) The receptionist and the assistant were very nice. The dentist on the other hand was pretty off putting personality wise. I was pretty nervous because I hadn't been to the dentist in a few years. I had x-rays and a super deep cleaning which left my mouth sore all day. I kind of expected this but I feel as though the dentist was very rough and didn't care if I was in pain. Fast forward 4 days I have another appointment to get a few cavities filled. She starts drilling and I ask if she was going to numb my mouth. She said I would be fine because they were just small cavities. One side of my mouth was fine (uncomfortable but not escruciating pain.) The other side was HORRIBLE. I told her to stop and to numb my mouth. She gave me a couple of quick shots and then went right back to drilling. I have only ever had fillings done one other time and I don't remember it hurting this bad. I'm pretty sure they numbed me right away and then let me wait for about 15 min before they started. This dentist did not do that. I'm not sure if it was because I had medical or what but she seemed to want to get it done with as fast as possible. If you HAVE to go to he dentist and have a very high pain tolerance you could probably get away with going here. If not I would be very persistent about them numbing you before they do any work. Beware, Dr. Sarafica, took our money ,I believe she is a scam dentist. My mother 89 years old lost her 3 front teeth when she feel. We went to Dr. Sarafica , she said she could fix them, I told the doctor my mother had dementia and the teeth dont have to look like a movie star , but she needs something for a better email and so she can eat. The doctor put in 3 teeth made out of some kind of wax, I asked is this strong ? and was told not to worry , when we went to pay I was charge $2000.00, and after I gave my visa card they said tell your mom not to use the new front teeth or they will fall out."What !!! ? These new teeth she put in my mom were only "very temporary" and my dentist said they should last three months at best. Well he was correct, 3 months later they feel out. I have called many times and no one from the office will return my call. They should have told me 1) the new teeth are a quick fix not to last more then 3 months and 2) the cost will be $2000.00 before she did the work. Lakewood is very professional, it's clean they did everything that we wanted them to do which was exams x-rays and cleaning. While I'm not sure I would trust them to do extensive dental work they are providing an essential service during the pandemic . They except Medi-Cal, and it is not a huge hospital like environment more like a beauty salon environment. The advice of the hygienist was very honest and spot on. She told me I better fill these cavities sooner than later! The appointments were easy and fast and staff were extremely responsive about forwarding our records to our regular dentist. So I had scheduled an appointment again with her to get the root canal well now she doesn't do root canals( of course right) but I went in anyways cause she said she could help the infection she wouldn't let my boyfriend in the room she literally started drilling on the tooth with no numbing at all!! I moved to Sonoma County last year from Seattle. My dentist in Seattle has served me well for many years, but I was in need of some basic dental work and had to find one that accepted my insurance. I made an appointment to get a filling replaced, after arriving on time for my 2 pm, I waited in the chair for 20 more minutes for my dentist to finish her lunch! How un-professional. I told her assistant that I would require anesthesia, he said the dentist does not usually do this, really? I'm getting drilled here! They acted like I was making an unusual request. After much agonizing in the chair she finally gave me the needle to numb me up, but she acted like I just ruined her day! I'm the freakin patient here lady! When she finished up, she abruptly left me sitting there in the chair without even telling me she was finished. Was I suppose to guess? Her assistant then told me she was done, and he acted rather strange as he hurried me out and busied himself for there next victim, I mean patient. The worst experience ever and I wasn't even the patient. My Girlfriend was getting a tooth removed for over an hour and I heard her screaming in agony while being drilled on and Regina Pronstroller Serafica, D.D.S. was telling my girlfriend it's not pain its pressure and my girlfriend said it was massive pain and Dr. Regina ignored her and kept drilling. This went on for the rest of the time and I even stopped the dentist and told her she shouldn't be working on a patient while in that much pain, it's unethical and told her to inject more novicane but the dentist Regina asked me if I wanted to take over her job. Then I told her to at least give my girlfriend a break, but the dentist Regina didn't like that idea and wanted to keep inflicting pain, trying to save a buck not to use any more novicane. Then she continued to drill while my girlfriend was still crying out asking her to stop and dentist Regina ignored her again and kept drilling. After she finally got the tooth out she sent my girlfriend out with a list of things to do and a prescription. I tried apologizing and Regina just starred at me with a frowny face. My girlfriend ran out with blood all over her face and tears down her cheeks. On the drive home my girlfriend told me there was no assistant helping and she kept getting blood and tooth particals flowing down her throat during the procedure. She said the dentist was in a hurry "even though there was no patients waiting with me in the waiting room." My girlfriend also said she was only injected with novicane a few times just on the surface of her gums, not deep down near the roots like your supposed to do. The male secretary dissappeared for the rest of time once my girlfriend started crying in pain. It felt like a very weird atmosphere for me, must have been a nightmare for my girlfriend. My girlfriend was still in massive pain on the ride home and is still in pain now after taking a painkiller. I do not recommend anyone to visit this Dentist for any reason, even for just a standard tooth extraction! I should have read the Yelp reviews before making an emergency appointment. Lakewood Dental was the only dentist that could take in my girlfriend within a 30 hour period, probably because it's patients never come back. My Middle Child Never had Cavities, My oldest needed braces and they told her to wait, and my little on got a root canal. Well today I took them to a pediatric Dentist!! My youngest should have never got that root canal. Now they have to remove 2 of his teeth, they are so beyond damaged. He has 7 cavities. Both my oldest and middles have cavities as well. I took my 3 year old daughter here because I was concerned about her teeth. She obviously was crying because well like most 3 years old do. The dentist just looked at her mouth and said oh they are just stained get an electric tooth brush. A few months later my daughter is complaining about her teeth so i took her to another dentist. They did actual x-rays and found a tooth that needs to be extracted, a few cavitites and the front teeth that lakewood said were just "stained" actually need to be capped. Very shady business. I have insurance that FULLY covers one checkup and one cleaning per year. I went to Lakewood for my checkup and the dentist told me I needed a deep cleaning, which would take several hours. She told me a regular cleaning would be a waste, and that I needed to go next level. She told me my insurance would not cover it all and that I would be paying $250 out of pocket. I scheduled the cleaning, and the babysitter, and went on with my life. Cleaning day came, and I showed up early. They asked me to fill out lots of paperwork, which was weird because I filled out a ton on my previous visit. No big deal, I'm easy going. They ran 15 min late. No big deal, I'm easy going. I finally get into the chair and 20 minutes later, after a very basic cleaning, she said we were done and walked away. I asked the receptionist why we were finished so quickly, and he told me that she must have decided it was better to do a regular cleaning now and do the deep cleaning later on. I explained to him that she had told me that was a waste, and he said she must have changed her mind. So, first of all, bye bye unnecessary babysitter money. If you have kids you know that you can't just show up early and pay less money. If you book for 2-6, that is the minimum you pay. A month later I got a bill from Lakewood for a cleaning. Since my insurance FULLY covers a regular cleaning I called bs on it, and called my insurance company. The insurance company informed me that Lakewood billed for a more in depth cleaning that wasn't fully covered. That is bullsh*t. After speaking more with the receptionist, I realized they were not going to do the right thing. In the end I paid it because it would cost me more in time and babysitter money to take them to small claims court, which is what I would have had to do to thwart their dishonesty. read more

My daughter has awful anxiety when it comes to visiting the dentist. Dr. Regina was BEYOND kind and patient with her as she had a full blown panic attack. Dr. Regina wasn't able to fill her cavity because my daughter wouldn't cooperate, but it meant so much to me how nice she was to my daughter and I throughout it all. Her and the gentleman in her office are very genuine and kind and in our experience, that is hard to find in a lot of offices. First off, I would strongly suggest not to go to this dentist. I was forced to go here because they accepted my insurance and my old dentist didn't, I went in for a check up and a cleaning and it was all fine up until the lady started working on my teeth, it was horrible, she was to aggressive with that tool they use to scrape at your teeth and it was unpleasant but that was not the worse part. I went back a week ago because I've been having pain in my gums between two molars and when I went in I told the lady the problem I've been having and all she said was "you have cavity" so I decided to get it over with and let her work on it. She just began drilling in the molar without anesthetic, it didn't hurt at first but then it was very painful. She then asked me if I was uncomfortable and I said yes it's painful and I guess she didn't care because she kept on working on it while I was sitting there making weird faces because it hurt so bad and I can swear I heard her assistant chuckle while I was in pain making faces. Then after she finished and began filling the molar she kept on blowing cold air into the molar which hurt way more than the drilling until they finally filled the molar properly. Then it was uneven so she had to drill off some of the filling and it took her a few times to get it right and every time I told her it was still uneven she looked like she was getting more and more frustrated. Days later the molar began to hurt which it didn't even hurt in the first place as I went in for gum pain and now it hurts when I drink anything any temperature or chew anything so now I have to find another dentist and see what they did to me. This dentist is very rude. Im 35 years old, and on medical, and alot of dentists don't accept medical. She was the first dentist I could get in with the earliest.. Shows you why... No one likes her! I have a very small mouth and other dentists would use a block to help me open my mouth, I shouldn't have to tell her she should of used one. And she would get upset when I would start to close my mouth and I would tell her I'm sorry, but my jaw hurts. It seems like she would get frustrated with me , and then she works on my mouth for like 2 hours, that's way too long. I never had anxiety going to the dentist, but it seems like when I go to her I start sweating and shaking really badly, and I know it's cuz I know she doesn't help you be more comfortable. She doesn't numb you before she works on your teeth and I have to ask her, but then she doesn't even let it kick in, she will work on your teeth right away. One thing that bugged me I had a bad toothache on the bottom right, so I went in for an emergency appointment and she worked on the left side... Which it didn't make sense. This dentist was my normal dentist for the past couple years. Over that time things have declined. They have cancelled appointments on me and then charged me a ridiculous amount for failing to appear for an appointment without even asking what I had going on. My mouth always hurt after visiting here. Very rough and I feel like they nickel and dime you. Would want me to pay before my insurance even had a chance to pay. There are many other dentist in the area. This place treats you like a number rather than actually caring for you as a person. Be aware. read more

I made an appointment with Regina Serafica at Lakewood dental for a routine teeth cleaning. My teeth and jaw hurt for two days afterwards, and the first day I was not even able to chew on the right side of my mouth. This has never happened after a cleaning before, so unless you enjoy pain, I would definitely keep looking for another dentist. read more

This dentist is horrible. She has no emotions. She doesnt tell you anythings. She just pulls out drill and starts drilling with no numbing!!! She did not even tell me how many cavities I had. I started getting upset because it was hurting and she became very annoyed and treated me like I was being a baby. I guess she thought because I had medical I did not deserve to be treated like a human being. Who does that? AVOID AT ALL COST!!!! read more
