Lindsay emailed me asking if I could come in for an interview, and when I saw the job title "Director of Legal Division, Recruiting", I decided to google the company.... which is, of course, when I learned that they are a staffing agency. In general, I don't like to deal with folks who aren't upfront and this felt like a red flag but I scheduled an interview because I felt like it couldn't hurt to go see what they're about. (It is worth noting that I was asked to bring two forms of ID for payroll and that felt shady too.) I used that opportunity to for a bit more about the position via email and was told that it was in the early stages and that they needed more information themselves. Um, what? At that point, I became ill and had to reschedule the interview. I sent another email requesting more information. Lindsay said she would "try her best" to obtain it, but that I would need to come in anyway. Finally, I composed a professional but stern email, basically calling them out and stating that the lack of transparency was making me uncomfortable, and that I needed to know exactly what was on the table. At that juncture, I received a lengthy email explaining that yes, I applied to the Office Manager position, but that they have two to three available and would need ID because they're temp to perm, and the agency issues your pay for the first three months. She copied and pasted an example of a job description she was referring to. I wrote back thanking her for the clarification but never received a response. Though she was very nice, I feel like there was dishonesty from the very start, and that I had to do a lot of insisting and digging to get any actual facts. It doesn't make me feel like they'd be very useful in placement, negotiation, or back up - and at that point, I'm better off on my own.

Vanguard was one of them. I don't know/or didn't know if this place was for people looking for full time and temp work or just temp work. I just got a nice call from a guy named Brian and came in the next day, filled out an application (although I was confused by that, since I wasn't applying for a job with Vanguard) and had a nice discussion with said Brian about what I was looking for. Fine so far. Then, he proceeded to present me with so much paperwork, I thought I was being arrested or signing up for sex reassignment surgery. I didn't actually think much of it but didn't have the time to sit there and go through it, as I had another appointment that I was already late for. When Brian was nice enough to e-mail me the stuff to fill out, I looked at it carefully. Why do they need to have my DIRECT DEPOSIT INFORMATION???? I want a FULL TIME job. I DO NOT WORK FOR VANGUARD. This is really ambiguous and a bit decieving. There is absolutely no reason why they should have any of that information unless you are tempting through them. Just a warning. I'm not sending any of this stuff back. Obviously. What's your favorite employment agency, btw? It's been about 10 years since I've looked for a job!

I say ok and of course never heard from her yet again. When I contacted her to let her know she wasted my entire afternoon, she then responds with a lengthy rather bizarre phone message apologizing and saying " I know you must hate me" and an email saying "I absolutely understand you're furious and for thinking the worse of me."It seems like I can give you a hundred reasons and it won't be enough, but I just wanted to say I am sorry from the bottom of my heart for "wasting your time" and whatever inconvenience I have caused you, and for accommodating my schedule." No offense but I don't even know you. I was traveling to Japan the following day and said I would be in touch when I return and she tells me the position I was inquiring about will most likely not be available when I return. Yes, which is why I wanted to speak before I left! All very strange, beyond frustrating and completely unprofessional. If she had just communicated from the beginning it wouldn't have been a problem but to go through all of this was a total waste of my time. Especially when I was traveling the next day. Initially, at the onset of the conversation, I specifically asked to speak with Gerry Sheridan. She's the person who I saw on my LinkedIn feed yesterday and I had already taken the initiative to send her an introductory email last night. In hindsight, seeing the wonderful reviews about Gerry, I wish that I had spoken with her instead of the insolent woman-child who answered my call. I informed the person of my very unique situation being new to DC and she immediately began interrupting me in mid-sentence. I guess she assumed that what I had said was more than enough for her to hear. Eventually, when I was able to get a word in edgewise, I told her that the interruptions were a COMPLETE turnoff. I also informed her that 40 hours is actually considered the maximum amount of full-time hours and anything over that was considered overtime. I don't understand how this individual in employed with a staffing agency and doesn't understand that, under the Affordable Care Act, 32 hours per week is considered full-time. Of course, she wouldn't let me continue the sentence to explain that much to her. And what was her excuse? "Well, I have another call coming in 20 seconds so I was trying to rush this conversation along..." WHO SAYS THAT TO A PROSPECTIVE EMPLOYEE?!?! If this is the first point of contact for anyone who calls your office, she is doing a major disservice to your company. I have NO intentions of calling back and I will definitely inform everyone that if they want to receive subpar customer service at the onset, call C-Suite Assistants. I'm beyond disgusted.
