We stopped by Lambert's Restuarant on our way back home this evening. The food was awsome, delicious, served hot and big servings. Nobody can ever say they didn't get enough food or that they left hungry! They were very busy however seated us without any wait at all. Turner, our server, was the best ever. He greeted us, took our beverage and food order and in no time at all was carrying it to yhe table. Turner was very attentive, polite, smiled continuously and was just an all around gentlemen! We definitely will return not only for the great food but also to see Turner again for his exceptional kindness and for treating us like friends. read more

As always, delicious & fast. It's a wonderful family spot, kids can be as loud as they need to be. We are always surrounded by wild families & it just adds to the excitement in the atmosphere. Great stop on a road trip. It will take the restlessness right out of you. We live about 2 hours from this location & like to make it a day thing every now & again. We always come here during our annual staycation & never regret it. The pre-meal pass arounds are delicious, I love the okra & fried potatoes. Rolls are always fresh & hot, and are wonderful with the free pass around molasses & apple butter. Never had bad service, things run super fast & smooth at Lambert's. If you're a first timer, just go to the front desk & they will give you a number that will be called when your table is ready. Our first trip to Lambert's. Extremely popular place, so we had about a 30-40 wait. Our server, Adam C., did an outstanding job. Food portions are huge. We had meatloaf w/ mashed potatoes, greens, potato salad, yams, chicken pot pie. Pass arounds included fried okra, black eye peas, noodles and tomatoes, and of course rolls. Food was good not great but good. Maybe we are spoiled by our home cooking. Now ROLLS, when the bread person comes out in the dining area, everyone raises their hands. When the guy makes eye contact with you, be ready to catch a roll, softball size rolls, fresh and warm. If you're 5 feet away or 50 feet (across the diner) the roll will soar through the air, to your outstretched hands. First roll I caught was from about 30 feet away. These people have enough practice, they judge the distance perfectly. Second roll was about 25 feet and when I caught it, it exploded, told you they were warm and fresh. So he tossed another. It was a fun eating adventure, plenty of leftovers. We carried out enough leftovers for another meal. Price was about $43 for two including tip. The only thing, the young lady outside, handing out entry numbers and telling everyone, 30 minute wait time no matter how many people there, needs to learn to eat with her mouth closed. This was a hoot! I read "home of throwed rolls", so my initial reaction was, "what the heck is a throwed roll"?! Answer: they hurl bread at their patrons! A young guy came out, announced "hot rolls!" and hands shot up all over the room, hoping to catch a roll. Just to back up a little bit, when you first arrive, its a little daunting. The entire porch was packed with people. My husband said, "This is just like that Hickory Park (Ames, IA -- awesome place) you like!". He was right. You get a number from the gal at the front door and then wait. I think our wait was about a half hour, exactly what she said it would be. When they call your number, work your way inside to the host station and then they'll usher you to a table. The decor is a hoot. The walls are covered with old license plates and the tables have old photographs on them featuring past roll-throwers. A young guy came over to take our drink order was really friendly. The drinks come out in huge plastic travel mugs. I suppose they don't have to worry too much about refills if they start you out with a gigantic serving. The guy who took our order was robotic and just seemed bored. The menu has a lot of southern home-style meals. I chose the meatloaf and my husband ordered chicken gizzards. Someone came to offer us fried okra, and then the roll dude came out. I've gotta say, he's got a pretty good arm. My husband caught one and we split it. It's a huge popover and it was piping hot! Once you get a roll, someone else comes over to offer sorghum molasses or apple butter for your bread. (There are single-serving butter or margarine cups already at the table.) The wait wasn't too long before we got our food. The portions were generous. I'm not terribly crazy about the plastic plates, but they throw food. Glass is a liability. :) The meatloaf was great. The mashed potatoes were good. I had corn and my husband had green beans. Both were probably canned, but at least they were warm. He got turnip greens with his plate o' guts. Not for the faint of heart, he tells me. Then he got all excited because he got a liver with his gizzards. If Andrew Zimmern ever needs a "Bizarre Foods" partner, I know a guy. Mr. Roboto brought us our bill and disappeared. When he finally returned and we told him that he could keep the change, he stuffed the $40 in his pocket! I really hope they pool tips because the gals walking around with the pass-around foods were working harder than the guy who wrote down my order. When you exit out to the left (there are gigantic yellow footprints on the floor, just follow the feet), they have a small gift shop. We got a few souvenirs including a stress roll. :) Both the restaurant and gift shop are cash-only which is kind of a pain. The ATM was some uncommon bank, so I lost three bucks on fees just so I could buy my gifts. This was a fun place. This isn't where you go when you're looking to have quiet conversation or a light meal. Come here with your rowdy friends and come hungry! read more

One star for the sides and roll. IF I ever go back that's what I'll have is four of the sides plate $12 and the pass around of okra, fried potatoes/onions and skip the macaroni and tomatoes ( tasted like made with Campbell's tomato soup) sides we liked were corn, carrots, greens, white beans. What we didn't like were under seasoned ribeye, ( $25 ribeye unexceptional and rubbery) chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes and packaged white gravy. Sorely disappointed after all the hype. It's always fun at Lambert's, but I can definitely tell that the food portion sizes has changed. The fish pieces are usually bigger and a bit more in quantity. The chicken fried steak used to cover the entire plate. Although the portions are cut down the food was still tasty. I do wish that the pass arounds were really coming around. The potatoes and onions are my fav!!!! The sorghum and apple butter is always the best part of having a delicious hot roll. I will be back. read more

Food is usually great but they have times when it's not. Lambert's is know nation wide. The service is always friendly, when busy sometimes you have to ask for certain pass arounds. I'll never understand why they leave a section closed with 100+ people waiting outside. Gets rather loud at times. I rarely write a negative review. Pretty much ALL of the food at our table looked amazing except mine. We were a large group, so I didn't say anything to the server, who might have fixed it, but I was brought the most sad looking plate of fried chicken I've ever seen. It was actually dessicated like it sat under a heat lamp for hours. We were there for lunch around 12pm, so there's no reason why that should have been. The place was hopping and the service was very slow, but the thrown rolls and the sides were tasty. My entree was just truly awful. If you go, I would highly recommend against the fried chicken plate. read more

Visiting this cafe has been a bucket list item for me for years. Mission accomplished! While driving through in Dec-2019 my wife and I took the time to stop for lunch and it was the visit did not disappoint. My wife had the Chicken Tenders and they were cooked perfectly and tasted very good (her words). The portion was large enough that she took some home and had leftovers for two days. I had the Meatloaf and it was very good as well even though the tomato sauce was a bit overwhelming of the flavor of the meatloaf itself. A good portion and fantastic mash potatoes saved the dish. The "Pass Arounds" really make the experience one that all should try. You can stuff yourself with great sides that are tasty and plentiful. I am sure that many come and want to witness the "throwed rolls" and it was entertaining. While I was not on the receiving end, I can attest that it does happen. When you are first seated they will arrive at your table and offer you one of the rolls - you will amazed at the size! It's why my wife and I only had one. With all of the food available to you there is no excuse to leave hear wanting anything. If you haven't been, I recommend that you put it on your bucket list too. read more

We have been sadly disappointed the last two trips to Lamberts. The food was cold and undercooked both times. The touted "pass around" dishes were scarce to absent. Our server was very nice and knowledgeable, but other service was cold to the point of resentful. The rolls did come out frequently and were hot and delicious. We expect more than ambiance and entertainment for the price we paid. read more

OMG the absolutely most filthy place I have ever been to. If I had seen the kitchen before we sat down I would have thrown up. The tables were filthy underneath and beyond disgusting! Food all over the floors. NEVER and I mean NEVER again! I think I need a tetanus shot after eating there! Another note, the food is less than fair. No flavor and they slop it on like you are cattle being fattened up for slaughter. There should be a negative star rating. I'm sure the rats have a buffet at closing! Keep driving people! I get what the fuss is about. Got here at 11:45 and there was a ton of people waiting outside. They give you a number and tell you the wait time. We waited 30 minutes, (told 30-45) so that was good. Inside decorated with license plates from all over the US. We got our drinks right away in JUMBO tumblers. Once you order your meal, it comes out fairly quick. Good ole' Southern cooking. The "fuss" is not just about the hot fresh jumbo rolls they toss at you, but all the "extra's" they bring out and add to your plate, called "pass around's", fried okra, black eyed peas, fried taters, stewed tomatoes w/ elbow mac noodles, molasses for the buns, and probably a few other options. I had the fried catfish which was delish, choice of two sides as well so I opted for the mash potatoes and gravy and the chunky applesauce which was delish. Got a few hush puppies on the plate as well. My son ordered the country fried steak which was as big as the giant platter they served it on. He said it was delish as well. Didn't have room to try the banana pudding this trip, but will keep it in mind for next time. Again, this place is worth the wait and runs like a well- oiled machine. This place gets a -1star on customer service. We called ahead and asked what time they stop serving food and seating people they said 9pm. I said ok, our gps is staying we won't be there until 8:50 they said that's fine, just come on in we will seat you and feed you! We showed up at 8:51 doors were locked they told us to go in through the exit. So we did and then they told us they closed early and had all the food put up! We had just spoke to the girl on the phone 20 min prior and she said nothing about being slow and closing early. We drove out of our way bc of what she told us on the phone! If your hours are 1-9 for the sake of your customers it needs to be 1-9 not 1-8:52. What a disappointment lamberts! You failed us! read more

You will not leave hungry. I almost see Lambert's like my grandma's house...you will leave feeling like you don't need to eat for another week!! We first experienced Lambert's in Foley, AL. I'm actually not really into the thrown rolls. I'd rather them just pass the rolls around instead of test my uncoordinated catching skills. But overall, the food is great and plentiful! I expected to wait in a long line since they are notorious for long lines, but we were pleasantly surprised to see that there were only a few people waiting to be seated. We literally arrived just a few minutes before the massive line formed! It's usually at least a 39 minute wait, but it's worth it! The wait staff come around with "pass arounds" that consist of fried okra, fried potatoes, apple butter, and more. The portion sizes on the meals are ridiculously huge. You can definitely take home leftovers for an entire meal later!! I love the chicken livers here. My husband ordered the hog jowl and it was amazing!! It's like a cross between bacon and ham. I would definitely recommend trying it!!! All the sides were great! Our waitress was exceptional! I love how they serve drinks in massive cups, too. I honestly really like this restaurant. This was my 1st time to come here and I didn't know what to expect. This place is awesome, you better be hungry. When ordering I got the meatloaf and she said pick out two sides. In the meantime they brought other sides. I told her that was enough, but she said it was part of the meal. So I ordered the sides. Normally I love Lamberts, but I was disappointed this visit. My cucumber salad was soggy, my mashed potatoes were dry, and it took forever for the freebies to be passed around. Food was good but service had A LOT to be desired. The "sides" never came to our area unless we got their attention which was not easily done. Our waitress disappeared and rarely came back. I had to ask another server for to go boxes and our check. But still didn't get it for 15 min at which time our waitress finally showed up. She then Said we had to pay her so again I had to chase her down just to do that so we could finally leave. Definitely the worst service we have ever experienced here. I was driving back to Illinois from my Southern States road trip when I saw a sign for the most unusual restaurant. The sign read come to Lambert's Cafe "Home of the Throwed Rolls". I could not pass up an opportunity to check out this strange place, so I turned off the highway to my next stop. I pulled into the lot that revealed a huge building. The number of people that were waiting in line was astronomical. I walked up to a worker that was by the front door. I asked her how long the wait was for a table for two and she told me it was a 3-4 hour wait. Normally, I would not wait this long for any ordinary restaurant, but there had to be a reason everyone was willing to wait this long. The worker also informed me that I could wait in my car and my number would be called over a huge mega speaker that could be heard through the whole parking lot. I put down my name and waited patiently in my car. The wait was pretty boring, but it gave me some time to relax from the full day of driving that I had done. I sat waiting to hear my number. I looked at the time and about two and a half hours had passed. I was just about to sit back and wait the remainder of the time when I heard my number called. I hurried with my wife to the front door so as not to miss my spot. The hostess walked me through the massive restaurant to our table. The place was absolutely wild. The noise level was very loud. I walked to my table trying to dodge rolls being thrown past my head. I have never in my life seen a restaurant like this. I watched as workers hurled rolls across the restaurant for patrons to catch. They also had workers come around to give patrons free items to eat. The items were apple butter to put on your rolls, fried okra, pasta in a tomato sauce, fried potatoes and onions, and black-eyed peas. These items were called the "Pass Arounds" and they were not that bad. The real star was the throwed dinner rolls, they were delicious especially with the honey butter. As I was enjoying my warm dinner roll, a roll beamed me on the side of my head. A patron next to us missed catching it. I definitely was shocked, but I laughed it off. I ordered the rib dinner that came with a potato and a vegetable. My wife ordered the chicken, mashed potatoes, and corn. The dinner items were also very good. The real reason to come here though is for the "show", watching the workers and patrons throwing and catching the rolls and the mishaps that might happen. Lambert's Cafe is an awesome restaurant with a crazy theme. I really enjoyed my time here and the food was also good. read more

This place is very cool, the decor and gift shop were awesome! There is also an arcade that we loved, it had a bunch of quarter pushing machines and a claw machine where you win each time. There was even a pressed penny machine! The food was good as well, we ordered the chicken tenders to share. The thing is that the food is very expensive, but they do give a good portion. They also come around with different sides .The thrown roll is a neat gimmick and they were actually super tasty. Piano player, wall decor and all the young people serving food. Delayed our trip no ones fault but our own. would definitely go back even for the wait. Ever possible to give less than one star I would from start to finish one of the worst restaurant experiences that I've ever had. We were seated fairly properly, but then had to ask twice to get a server wants to server came the food took forever to get there, and when it did, it was basically inedible, my son got a hamburger with tomato, ketchup and pickles. That's what he ordered anyway what he got was just a simple plain hamburger. My wife and I ordered a rack of ribs. It came out as a half slab which they replaced with a full slab that was basically so chewy, as we couldn't even eat it, the best thing to be said of the meals and the coleslaw didn't suck. No offense, but they can throw those roles all day long and they're still average at best. read more
