Tru by Hilton Gaylord - Breakfast Area

This was our first stay at a Tru hotel -- and we loved it! Having travelled for work quite a bit…read moreover the years and experienced different brands, I've been very happy with the Hilton brand for decades. I find Tru to be a lively refinement of the traditional hotel experience. The color scheme of the lobby sets Try apart from other Hilton brands. Fifteen years ago, I enjoyed the minimalist theme of Four Points by Sheridan, but today I feel Tru by Hilton is more energetic, sophisticated, and more on point for me. While I think Tru was intended for young travelers, I feel Tru suites me in my early 60s. I very much liked the complimentary breakfast better than what is served at a Hampton Inn. I liked the pancake machine over the waffle maker. The Lavazza coffee was a welcome feature too. The rooms are a bit smaller, but still comfortably fit a king-sized bed. There is a small refrigerator, but no microwave. Exposed rods, pipes, and pegs replaced dressers and armoires. The shower was full glass with TWO glass corner shelves, so for a change I didn't have to store my toiletries on the floor or bend over to pick up them up. If you need a microwave, there's one in the lobby at the snack counter. The rooms and lobby were CLEAN. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

He's got his own personal board game collection he brings in for guests, which is such a fun and unexpected touch. Wish I had more time to check it all out, definitely appreciated it as someone who loves board games. Breakfast was solid too, would stay here again.

Our room had a bay window with padded seats. I'm picturing how much fun a little one would have sleeping there. We just enjoyed the view. The bed was comfortable and the bath/shower facilities were more than adequate. Excellent shower pressure. The cable selection was terrible but not a big deal for us. The hotel is in a great location. Right off the highway and near the only Tim Hortons for 50 miles! The staff were extremely friendly and had easy access to things like a mop for our sticky floor, or batteries for the tv remote. The place even had a door in the back for our convenience. I hope we can stay here again. 06/23

Nope, first impressions are everything and this one failed. We come to Gaylord often (from Hawaii)…read moreand usually stay at another hotel but this trip brought our cat so needed a pet-friendly stay. Our other hotel graciously booked us into Baymont, when we arrived about 1pm it was cold and rainy and we had luggage in the exposed bed of the pickup. Front desk tatted-up lady the "Manager on Duty" named Michelle or something was a total c***. "No you can't check in, no I ain't got no rooms clean" and "no place for you to store luggage" (the empty dining area in front of her was dark and wide open). "I don't care what you paid for the room, it will be an extra $50/night for the cat", "I ain't got no way to change that", "you have to come back after 3pm". I've stayed in hotels enough to know that some are cleaned before 3pm and there's always a place to store a traveler's luggage while they wait. At least try to accommodate. We left. "No refunds allowed" she said as we walked out. We made a couple calls, refund obtained. Avoid this place.

Not a big issue but kept the wife awake because I had to have the lights on in the room...Free breakfast was a joke of an offering with nothing much at all to offer.. Coffee was not good. This could easily be remedied. I also thought that we paid prime dollar for a no nonsense room off season. Just saying..

This place was obviously a well-loved mom & pop hotel at one time. It's a little worn around the edges now, but I had an acceptable night's stay there. Pluses: 1) They have hot water radiator heating system, and while it took a while for the room to warm up, I like water-based heating systems when it's cold and dry out. 2) It's reasonably priced, maybe $10 cheaper a night than big chain hotels. 3) The decor was subpar but the room was clean and the bed was comfortable. Minuses: The "continental breakfast" was a wrapped donut and bad coffee, and the room & service are stripped down and basic. There is a TV with cable, but no in-room coffee pot, for instance. Bottom line: You can probably find a cheaper Mom & Pop place nearby or pay a little more for a chain hotel, but this place was fine in a pinch.

On Saturday, when we returned to our room around 7:45-8:00 pm, I noticed 2 towels on my bathroom sink that I did not request. Housekeeping entered our room between the hours of 2:00 pm - 7:45 pm without our permission!! Definitely noticed my candy missing!! When we got home, we unpacked, thought maybe the candy fell in our bags or something. I called on the following Wednesday 01/29 and talked to Crystal. Told her what had happed. She sounded shocked and told me that they have Zero tolerance for that! I left a message for the manager, Mariah, to call me back! They wanted to check their hall cameras. I waited 1 week 02/05 to call back because they haven't contacted me yet. I spoke to Brianne, asked her to leave a message for Mariah. Today is 02/10 and I'm STILL waiting!! It's definitely not about the candy, what if they got something of more value?? **Stay very far Away**

We mentioned the problem to a housekeeper when leaving in the morning, and I tried calling the front desk yesterday to follow up, but no one answered, and they never returned my message.
