Our discovery of Tooth Buds was what your might call a "happy accident." We needed emergency dentistry after our older son (who was 9 at the time) broke his tooth while playing at the park, and Tooth Buds could see us right away. In spite of that trauma, our son felt so at ease with the doctor and in their office, that he asked if we could switch dentists so that he could always come here. We did, and 4 years later both boys have always had excellent care here. The staff knows that dental work can be scary for children, and they have the right tools and techniques to keep them comfortable. We've been bringing our kids to Dr. Roy since they got their first teeth, and we've had nothing but an amazing experience every time. Her office is warm, calming, and clearly designed with kids in mind--there are plenty of toys in the waiting area (though we've never had to wait long!), and TVs on the ceiling help keep the kids entertained and relaxed during cleanings. Dr. Roy and her team are patient, gentle, and genuinely great with children. They explain everything in a friendly, reassuring way that puts both kids and parents at ease. My kids especially love getting to choose from two different types of prizes after their visit--and the fun character toothbrushes are always a big hit! It's such a relief to have a dentist we fully trust who makes dental visits something our kids actually look forward to. I would give a negative star if I could. This dentist doesn't care about their patients at all. My kids didn't see a dentist for 3 years, because the dentist didn't contact us to schedule the next appointment for 3 years! When I asked them why, they responded saying they ditched Delta Dental's network and weren't sure whether we would continue to come as we had Delta insurance. They could have called me and asked, but they didn't bother. So after 3 years I called them to make an appointment. They called me 6 minutes after our appointment time when I was stuck in traffic, telling me that if I don't show up in 4 minutes they won't see my child. I was literally 2 blocks away and they wouldn't give me just 1 more minute. The dentist used to be late for our appointments - in the past we had waited for 10 minutes after arriving on time. But this is not reciprocal. If the dentist makes the patient wait for 10 minutes there is no consequence. This is ridiculous especially given the price charged. See the attached receipt - they charge $509 for cleaning and x-rays. Stay away from this overpriced dentist that doesn't care about patients at all. read more

My children love Dr. Roy and the Lamorinda Tooth Buds staff. We've been with her practice since it opened and couldn't be happier. Her office has a great energy - it's incredibly clean, has the latest technology, my kids like the movies, there's a cute play area, etc. (I enjoy the coffee station and comfortable chairs while my kids are being seen.) Dr. Roy is gentle, patient, knowledgeable and goes above and beyond to take care of her patients. A few years ago, on a Friday night, my daughter chipped off half of her tooth on our trampoline. I called Dr. Roy in a panic and she (along with several staff members), rushed back to the office to help my daughter. Dr. Roy successfully rebuilt her front tooth and it looks incredible. Dr. Katie Kim was fantastic in doing my daughter's first ever dental cleaning at age 2. She was warm, caring, and sang her the ABCs to calm her down and did a great job cleaning my daughter's teeth, flossing, getting rid of plaque, and applying fluoride. My daughter got a rubber ducky prize at the end, which she loved! Front office staff is wonderful as well. Highly recommend this practice to anyone with young children! read more

Look no further for a pediatric dentist! Our daughter needed an urgent visit for an unusual procedure, and after several visits with other dentists who declined to help, Dr. Roy offered to see us on very short notice. Dr. Kim performed the procedure, and I cannot express enough how fantastic the experience was. Our daughter was not only comfortable but is now excited to go back. Dr. Kim's child-centered approach, paired with her professionalism, was truly touching. From start to finish, Dr. Roy's staff made both my daughter and me feel at ease. I called to schedule an appointment and was told the wait time was more than 3 months. When it was a week before the appointment, they told me that the appointment had to be rescheduled without providing any reason. On the appointment day, the wait time was more than 30 minutes. Due to the Covid time policy, those 30 min were spent out side the office/building. Because of the inconvenient time, I had to bring my other kid with me. But they don't allow the sibling to go inside. So I had to alter between the waiting room outside and inside during the treatment. It was the first time for my son to take an X-ray. Only 3 pictures were needed, but they actually did 6 times because the sensor was not plugged for three times. So my 4 year old had three times unnecessary radioactive exposures. Would not recommend and will find another option in the future. read more

My kids had routine appointments during the pandemic and I wanted to write about our great experience. First off, the office and chairs appear to be sanitized to the highest degree. Most impressively, in the whole 30 mins I was there, I literally saw the observed staff and nurses santizing the previous patients' dental chairs and areas for a good 25 mins at least. Chairs, surrounding surfaces, replacing covers, workspaces - it was an exhaustive cleaning (and probably also kinda exhausting for the staff). Masks and face shields are used. There were at least 2 air filters running, and that's just what I could see. Next, the experience for my kids. My older 3.5 year old loved it. There are TV screens on the ceilings to distract your kid while the hygienist/ Dr Roy do their work. My 1 year old was less cooperative but they were so nice about it. Our experience at Lamorinda Toothbuds was truly outstanding! My daughter broke her tooth during an accident at school. We didn't have a dentist in the area and were desperate to find someone to see her. We are so grateful that Dr. Roy and her team were able to get her in right away. Dr. Roy and her team were incredibly kind and patient with us. Dr. Roy explained everything about the procedure and answered all of my questions. And, she did an excellent job repairing my daughter's tooth! Dr. Roy's office is very clean, and it is well-equipped with TV's and headphones for patients. A highlight of the visit was meeting Buddy, Dr. Roy's therapy dog. Buddy sat in my daughter's lap during her procedure, which was incredibly comforting for her. My daughter walked into Dr. Roy's office scared and traumatized by the accident she just had. When we left the office, she was smiling and happy. I brought my 13 month old for his first appointment, and was blown away by the care and attention to detail that is put towards this business. I liked the fun music in the lobby, the decorations for Valentines, just a lot of thought put into making the client comfortable and relaxed. When my son was laying on my lap and Dr. Roy was opening his mouth to see where new teeth may be emerging, she started singing to him to help keep him calm. Gavin was the hygienist attending to my son, and his enthusiasm and positivity definitely emulated his passion for his job. An extra bonus for my son was Dr. Roy's therapy dog Buddy. I just want to take a minute to Thank Dr. Roy. My son struggles with adhd and can be very difficult to sit still. Of course, he had three cavities that needed to be filled before a bigger problem occurred. Thanks to Dr. Roy, we were able to try twice to fill his cavities. Dr. Roy was patient and understanding making sure to not leave my 5yr old with a negative experience. We had great success on the second attempt to fill the cavities WITHOUT physical restraint. Worst customer service and the doctor is just so so. Every time I tried to make appointment , it will be at least two month or even more, The most recent time is for my daughter's treatment, we have an 8:30am appointment, we are about 15 min late due to unexpected traffic, and I was told that I have to go back and reschedule . I took my time and my kids school time off trying to fit into their schedule, and many times, I also waited in the waiting room for the doctor, so I just don't understand why they can't wait for the patient for one time. Then the next appointment is another two month away. Had enough with this place. read more

Dr. Roy and her team are incredibly helpful and respectful. They are focused on helping the kids feel comfortable and making sure they have a positive life-long association with dental work. I was so impressed -- they want to make sure the kids don't get traumatized by any of their experiences there and actually focus on what's best for the kids, rather than on making money and pushing through a tricky appt just for income or anything. Love Dr Roy, her staff, the office, everything! My son has no qualms coming to the dentist, which is more than I can say for myself! Visits have always been pleasant, the hygienists have always been super patient with my son, talk to him directly about his tooth care, & really take the time to discuss any questions, issues, etc. Last time we visited my 18 month old daughter was also with us, but I had not scheduled her for an appointment. They let her test out the chair, check out the instruments, & even sent her home with a balloon & tooth care goody bag.
