My kids run into the door going to Aloha. As a neurodivergent mom most appointments are stressful. But, Aloha made my kids feel empowered, educated and most importantly had fun at their appointment. We are new to the area and I took my special needs (ASD) son here. The assistants, hygienists, and Dr. Ameneh are the most patient, warm, kind and gentle professionals I've ever met. My son had a full blown meltdown during his first visit and I was getting so frazzled and embarrassed. While the hygienist started playing with my son and showing him the equipment, Dr. Ameneh literally put her arm around me and reassured me that this was nothing unusual for them, and that we would get through this, told me funny stories, and validated everything I was feeling. I started tearing up. (If you are a special needs parent, you know where I'm coming from with this!) And in the end, they did get my son to cooperate for an exam and a quick cleaning. On our second visit, he was so much more at ease and they were able to do more than the last visit. I recommend this place wholeheartedly, and I'm a bit jealous that adults don't get to be patients here! read more

My adolescent daughter has seen Aloha dentists since preschool, but her current dentist, Dr. Ruehe, is the best! I've never experienced such a kind, patient, and thorough dentist; even though my daughter has tremendous anxiety about going to the dentist, she's more than willing to see Dr. Ruehe. Clinically, Dr. Ruehe has worked hard to use preventive strategies (beyond regular cleanings and fluoride) to keep early decay from progressing. If only they took adults!!! The environment and staff is geared for making your kiddos relaxed and ready for their cleaning, etc. The team really gets kids and knows how to set them up for success in the chair. Having recently been on the search for a new dentist myself, one of the challenges I've ran into is finding a lot of the new generation of dentists recommending huge treatment plans. It can be like the car dealers service center. I've never seen that or even sensed that behavior at Aloha in Orinda. My first child has now been there three times and we just brought the younger one (2 years old) who is a special needs kid. They didn't even flinch and were not only thoughtful about the basics of a first visit, the dentist (Ameneh Khosrovani, DDS, MS) had a lot of empathy for the situation and even took it upon herself to ask to follow up with his pediatrician to be part of his extended team. His teeth have been very slow to come in (common with intellectual disabilities) and she was reassuring that things were fine and what to expect. read more

Aloha dental provided my high school and middle school children a very positive experience- minus the revelation of cavities. Very disappointing. We have been patients for a few years but the office is so busy that you get lost in the crowd. Front desk scheduled us for services that weren't the main reason for the appointment and took off from work to make it. When we got there, they made no attempts to address the situation. Decided to give them second chance. Tried to make an appointment several weeks before and left a message requesting callback. No one ever called back. Then called determined to speak to someone but finally hung up after 45 minutes on hold. Wrote an email giving feedback and requesting assistance and now 5 days later, no response back. We will be looking for another family dentist. Unfortunate as the dentists all seem friendly enough. read more

We had a great initial experience two years ago for our son. They were on time and spent lots of time getting him comfortable. They met with me and him to talk and get to know each other and he had a great visit. Our second visit went well also. Two years later it was time for our daughter's first visit. We had booked at 9:30 and the day before they just changed the appt to 9:15 without asking. I couldn't make that time so had to call them and shifted it back to the original time. We got there a few minutes early and waited about 25 minutes to be seen. Once we were seen, the hygienist went with my daughter to brush her teeth. Since she's one, she wasn't excited about it. The woman expressed great concern and said the dentist would talk with us about it. We waited about 10 minutes more while she showed us the different materials they would use. I tried to take a picture of my daughter and she said I couldn't because of hipa. I'm, she's my daughter. Anyways, the dentist finally came over, made no attempt to connect with my daughter, made her cry so they could get into her mouth then put some fluoride on her teeth and that was the end of that. He spent about 3 minutes with us. I'm not even sure if he said anything about her teeth. Today, I went back for an appt with my son and was 15 minutes late due to horrible tunnel traffic. They told me I needed to reschedule or I could wait and they might be able to see us in an hour. What place that works with children, especially toddlers doesn't have a way to deal with someone who is 15 minutes late but ask said 3 year old to wait for 1 hour with his one year old sister in tow? I'll never go back again. read more

I love this place!! My girls go to Dr. Uritani and she is the best. She was so amazing with my daughter when she had to put in a filling for her hypoplasia and she told her she drew Cat boy character on it, she was sooo excited and opened her mouth wide and proud the whole time, she didn't want me to even be by her side for it. Spring 2014 baseball bat injury to mouth of 12 year old after hours on a weekend necessitated emergency intervention. The doctor took my call, accepted a cell phone pic of the gruesome injury, and told us to meet him in 45 minutes at the orinda office. When we arrived he had assembled a dental asst to assist in temporary front teeth reconstruction. I can't say enough of how clutch this office was a dealing with my sons emergency. They took a really bad situation and through their skills and willingness to drop everything after hours on a weekend take an emergency appointment for a patient, made a really bad situation better. All three of my kids had their check up today at Aloha with Dr. Ameneh Khosrovani at their Orinda office. She is a gem and I don't use that word loosely. She has been seeing my kids for over ten years and I can't imagine going anywhere else. Like many people, I often have great experiences and don't bother to sit down and write a review. On a whim, I decided to write a review that is most overdue. First of all, I am shocked at some of the lower stars here. Aghast is more like it. I have heard from business owners how frustrating it can be to have unfair and inaccurate reviews. As I read some of the lower rated stars here, I am speechless. We usually see Dr. Ameneh but have had to see others as well. She is sincere, smart, perceptive and caring. Whether she is speaking to my 16 year old,14 year old or special needs 11 year old, she is spot on in her communications about preventive care and next steps. She will never rush you or your kids. She is persuasive - she will talk to them in a way that makes them follow proper hygiene. As others have said, it's that demeanor that has made my special needs kid, who is very quirky and sensitive, want to brush well and want to get his teeth cleaned at the office. She can reach kids. Maybe you can save 20 dollars elsewhere, maybe not, but her care is excellent and her results are superlative. If that weren't enough, she is also a wonderful human being. She worked with me so I could continue providing care for my kids when I was going through a tough financial period. She didn't have to but she cares AND acts on it. I can go on and on, as can many devoted family and neighbors and friends, but I will stop. If you are in the market for pediatric dental care, go see Dr. Ameneh at Aloha. You will be impressed. Best pediatric dentistry in the East Bay! We had a great apt today with our Dentist Ameneh and Nurse Theresa. Ameneh is thoughtful, very gentle, and speaks with respect and kindness towards my daughter, creating a safe atmosphere. Theresa welcomed us with such a wonderfully energetic and personable attitude, my daughter felt comfortable with her immediately! Throughout the apt, which was a cleaning and filling, they were 100% attentive to my daughter's concerns, and very supportive along the way, while doing a fantastic job on her teeth. I could go on and one about these women, and this dentistry! I give them 5 stars all the way! Unbelievable! This office is ridiculous. I called them to ask for my xrays so that we could go to a different office with a better front desk and billing staff. Maybe because they are in Orinda they can charge an arm and a leg and people will pay. The estimate for my daughter's extraction and filling was several thousand. Good thing I got an estimate first. We found a wonderful pediatric team in Walnut creek with a friendly staff that we've been going to ever since. This office gives discounts if your paying out of pocket. read more

Ever have a doctor or dentist talk to you like they're talking to a child? That's what you get here. It's nice for the children, especially walking into a beautiful, expensive, office with lots of bells and whistles but honestly, to have to pay for everything up front, with top of the charts orinda prices is just brutal. the fact that doctors and insurance companies screw the patients over and over again is a sad fact of life these days but there are choices. you get what you pay for a whole lotta flash but i think you can find a very good dentist who can make children feel comfortable (that is part of their job right?) without paying an arm and a leg up front. read more

Aloha is great! I went to Dr. Wampler as a kid and now my kids see him and Dr. Katsura. They are really good at getting the little ones to feel comfortable and cooperate (helps that they have the best prize box in town).
