I have been staying with this business for more than 10 years since before the renovations.And now , recently , since after the renovations. I had loved it before for the rustic charm and now I love it even more. The staff is exceedingly friendly and courteous, especially the front manager j. (Nice family guy cute kids) they have wonderful rooms, and especially the group rooms.AKA the cottages , I would strongly recommend them for groups of three or more , since they have kitchens and large living room areas. I have such amazing memories of this place, and it's so amazingly maintained and beautifully kept.I hope we can continue to give our money to this place as the grounds are beautiful. Truly a well kept secret.But i'm hoping to bring more business here , so people can enjoy it as much as I do. I was very pleased with my stay at the Lamp Liter Inn. The room was very modern, and the grounds were immaculate. I understand they spend about $30,000 on each room they renovate. All the rooms close to the lobby on both sides have already been renovated. I would definitely stay here again. read more

I reserved a room for 2 with the expectation of a clean, convenient accomodation not too far from Sequoia National Park. Upon check in, we were pleasantly surprised by the lovely lobby and a warm, and helpful check in person. We stayed in one of the 4 cottages available and it was wonderful!! Recently renovated, we had a spacious living room, bedroom and bathroom with two closet spaces and two flat screen TV's. I'm guessing that the sofa was a pull-out which would make this perfect for a family. We enjoyed the patio table and chairs and there was also a fully enclosed back patio which would be perfect for small children to play. The pool area was inviting,and parking was convenient. Also, the bedding was high end. I will definitely stay here again when I am in the area! read more

Please stay away from this site. Me and my wife booked a room through booking, 120.60 for 1 night. We arrive and the first thing we hear is the manager on the phone with booking arguing with them to remove a negative review, one that stated they added extra charges and had dirty rooms. The man checking us in first attempted to charge us 287 but he didn't know why when we asked. The manager stated it's a deposit of 150 refundable. We stated booking did not mention a deposit fee. The manager stated booking and them are different, we asked if they received our reservation with the price we were offered, they confirmed they received our booking. The manager finally got off the phone, We asked why would the not honor the pricing, the manager stated "We are different and use booking to bring in customers, if you want a different price book with us directly don't use booking". The manager then stated he will honor the room rate with the 150 deposit, making the price 270, he even read the number slowly out loud to my wife as if she was dumb. As we are about to pay we see the price set to 285, the manager stated "it's taxes". My wife did the math getting 270 and as she was he rudely asked "So what are we doing?" Trying to make sense of the extra charges we asked why we have to pay taxes on booking and then through them. The manager ultimately refused our stay stating "you complain about the rent. I match the room and you complain about deposit. I'm refusing you two, you can deal with booking to cancel". On top of all of this, a woman walked in and demanded a room, the same manager gave her a room without question or deposit for 100 dollars flat. We excuse the check in clerk, perhaps new. But the manager, actively trying to remove negative reviews; even boasting to whomever it was on the other line that he "has been able to remove negative reviews before and one bad review spoils the bunch". This business is not pleasant and a far cry from great customer service and transparency. Please do yourself a favor and do not give them your business. There are far better options. read more

DO NOT BOOK HERE. Cockroach infested, blood/fecal stains on sheets, air conditioning hardly worked and when we called the front desk to repair the AC unit they sent someone from maintenance and all that guy said was it takes about 6-8 HOURS to cool the room down. The next morning we woke up to find cockroaches crawling on the floors and walls. We pulled back the sheets to see if we could find bed bugs, and ended up finding what appeared to look like dried blood stains or possibly fecal stains. We immediately packed up and went to the front desk wanting to speak to the manager, who also happens to be the owner (from my understanding), who was not even there. The front desk worker had terrible people skills and didn't help us at all, but gave us a false promise that we would later hear from the manager within an hour. We never heard from the manager, so I called to speak to him. I let him know the situation I had dealt with in one of the rooms, to which his response was "you stayed there all night and I will not be giving you a refund". I asked for a refund and was said his behavior was highly unprofessional to which he hung up the phone on me. I have time stamps from the photos of us finding these cockroaches, stains, and even a used band aid in the trash below the trash liner, the following morning after we stayed in this hotel all night. GROSS. The manager is extremely unprofessional, rude, and it is absolutely criminal that this inn is STILL in business after all of the terrible reviews and the very obvious infestation of bugs. Please save your money and do not stay here. Lamp liter inn used to be a visalia gem but under recent new ownership within the last few years, the inn has gone downhill. Despite its outdated rooms, I would actually recommend this hotel. Rooms are clean and comfortable, the layout of the room I like most coz it has a room for privacy (atleast the room I was in). It has this bit of space or entryway to the shower room that's covering the rest of the room. I also like the beautiful landscapes of their garden and pool outside. Whoever their gardener is, is doing a great job! Overall, me and our group was satisfied with our stay. Fantastic for one or two nights stay. The location was fairly quiet at night and about 5mins drive to places to eat. read more

Pretty gross beds and pillows. They had stains all over the bed and pillows, (probably sweat stains), one of the pillows even had a dot of a blood stain. Maybe it was from a bloody nose, but still, was absolutely disgusting. When I brought the pillows to the front to be replaced they were not that amenable. They said they didn't keep any extra supplies (at night). The next morning I asked again, and the front desk said room service would be right over. We waited to no luck. I guess you get what you pay for... Check in was fine the lobby was clean and the service was fine however when we got to the room there were cockroaches on the mini fridge!! I was not brave enough to open it to see if there were more. I went back the lobby and the receptionist did change our room however was extremely rude and didn't seem worried about the fact there were bugs in our room. We we're changed to a room upstairs and thankfully found no more bugs. However to room was old and and dirty again you get what you pay for I guess. I think the most irritating part is that we had to go get out room key re activated EVERY NIGHT!!! This place is very unsafe and dirty. I booked a room with double beds. When I arrived to check in I requested a ground level room, it took the person at the desk 15 minutes to make the change. In the mean time there were guests coming to the desk complain about issues in their room and deactivated room keys. We arrived at our room (which by the way, was located in the back of the hotel) after 12:00am. There were several people in the room next door, 3 men lighting pipes and smoking (and it wasn't just plain Pot) and what looked like prostitution was also invited to the party. We left and called from our car, and demanded a refund. We were told we had to return our keys before a refund could be credited. I wanted no part in returning to that horrible place. We visited Visalia and thought it would be nostalgic to stay at the Lamp Lighter Inn. Not so much. Very sad to see what the place has deteriorated to, our room was disappointing to say the least. No secure door lock, only the deadbolt, bed was so hard my shoulders and arms fell asleep so I tossed and turned all night. There was patchwork and bare drywall tape on the wall. Spackle drops in the sink. Room smelled of 50 years of room deodorizer. And I don't even want to guess about carpet. We stayed at the Lamp Liter Inn for a week while visiting California, we received a great welcome from the front desk and I am sad that I have to leave a 1 star review because the front desk staff was awesome. . .unfortunately their efforts do not make up for the issues we faced. I selected the Lamp Liter because it was cheap and close to the family we were there to visit. I know, in my review for Pacific Marina Inn, I spoke of matching your expectations to the cost of the room and, in doing so, I gave that business a rather high review in comparison to others. The difference between these two very similar properties is that the Pacific Marina Inn is at least functional. The problems at the Lamp Liter started on the very first night. We were originally in room 277 (yes, I said originally, I'll get to that) on what I am going to call the "unrenovated" side of the property. The room was old and tired, you could see every year that it had been in service through the walls and floor, but, that is what we paid for. The issue is that the floor in that room is uneven somehow, especially in the transition between the shower room and the area that holds the sink. Our shower was also putting out an insane water pressure that we could not adjust, was set at chest level, and was dripping constantly with a tap tap tap tap tap tap tap sound that was driving us mad. In addition, the shower pan is inadequate for holding the water in so the bathroom floor got soaked and we had to use most of our towels to mop up the water that had escaped. The second issue are the things that were not mentioned when I made my reservation and when we checked in. For one thing, the onsite restaurant (which is one of the reasons I booked here) was closed, and it looks like it has been closed for a while, for another our sliding glass door was screwed shut in multiple places so we couldn't open it! We wanted to open the curtains and the doors and just chill in our room with the fresh air and do some research and work but we couldn't! Why would the doors be screwed shut? If I want to let the air into my room I should be able to. Without usage of the doorway the only options you have for air are a tired fan and a heater that makes more noise than a Honda Civic with a blown muffler doing 40 mph at 5KRPM down a highway. Lets move onto the room service. The individuals performing room service need to pay way more attention to what they are doing. They totally skipped our room when we had the "Maid Service Requested" sign up, which means we didn't get a refresh on the towels we used to clean the floor because of their shower, and the next day they were hammering on our door while we were trying to sleep with the "DO NOT DISTURB" sign displayed. Like. . .hello? What's the point of giving us the ability to put up signage if you're just going to do whatever you want to do anyway? That's like one of the basic hallmarks of housekeeping, so that the guest occupying the room can control when it is ok and not ok for the staff to be present. We came back from our gatherings one day to find that all we had access to was FREEZING cold water, mind you that at this point it is almost 1AM. I called the front desk and they said that a water pipe had blown and they had to move us to the other half of the property. Whoever I was talking to on the phone followed this up with "We'd been trying to reach you all day." Umm. . .no you hadn't, that is a straight up lie. The front desk had my cell phone number an email on file, and I did not receive any calls or any attempts to contact me through email, and now, at literally 1am we had to move to the other half of the site? Had there actually been an ATTEMPT to reach us they could have done so easily, we hadn't left Visalia that day, the whole time we were no more than 20 minutes away and we could have easily returned at any point to move rooms. Then we got to the new room, the "renovated one" First thing my wife notices? Spiders in the shower! So I relocated the spiders outside the room and went to take a shower and the "new" shower in 225 was worse than the old one in 277! There was something wrong with the showerhead and it was sending water everywhere, once again flooding the floor out and requiring us to use our limited towels to clean it up. We also noticed that, in the 1am rush, we had left a couple of items in the refrigerator of 277. I called the front desk and asked them if these items could be brought to the new room with the housekeeping service the next day since we would not be in as we were driving to Riverside in the morning. The person on the phone said "Yes, I will make a notation in the system and we'll get it over to 225." We ended up spending the night in Riverside AND went to the Huntington, Monster HQ as well as my families house before returning to the Lamp Liter, we were gone for a full 2 days. . .no house keeping and no items. I advise that you do not stay here. read more

Literally stay away from this place. I've seen nicer homeless encampments then this place. At first glance when checking in the lobby it smelled of cleaning chemicals (is that good or bad? You decide) The lady at the front desk seemed decently nice but had somewhat of an attitude like she didn't want to be there. That's typical but besides the point, we are only here to have somewhere to sleep for the nights we are here not to hang out in the room all day. Upon entering the room we inspected it per usual any place we stay. I have a blacklight flashlight so I checked everywhere and it looked decent enough in the main room and most of the bathroom. The toilet seemed fine but when it was turn to inspect the shower it was filthy. Hair everywhere and we even found contact lenses in the shower caddy. After seeing how hideous and obviously untouched the shower had been led me to believe there was more than meets the eye. We were lucky enough to have a decently clean room unlike the other reviews but it smelled of cigarettes the whole time. No clue where the smell was coming from but we would get huge whiffs of it constantly throughout the night. Another issue is the electrical, it's so terrible one of the lights on the night stand wasn't even plugged in and had no plug near it for it to work. Also the plugs in this place are a joke. They use these very old looking power strip surge protectors that look like it's been made in the 80s. If you wiggle any electrical wire whether it's the microwave plug,tv plug, night stand light it will flickers on and off like if you make any movement to the wiring it turns on and off intermittently. The ceiling fan was extremely noisy and sounds like it's going to collapse off the ceiling any day now. The wall unit is nice but is way in the corner of the room which is very inefficient. There is a switch on the wall that's labeled (heating/ac) why is there a switch to turn on what I already have? I tried turning it on and there are 2 vents in the ceiling one intake one outtake. It blows air through but what is on the a/c or heater I cant tell? I can't tell there's no thermostat in the room so what's the point in this switch. My final straw was when on the last night of our stay (3 nights total) we were gone all day and we arrive back at our room and it looks like house keeping never came into our room at all. So I go to the front desk and the front lobby was locked. I had to go all the way around to the front where there was a teller window for the person working the front desk. I told her house keeping hadn't stopped by our room but that it's ok we just needed 2 towels for the shower. (We stopped by the store and bought disinfectant spray btw) The lady told us there were no towels in the lobby and that house keeping is gone for the day so she can't get any towels until the morning. I asked her if there was any sort of towels any kind at all and she said nothing come back in the morning. That was my final straw. I held my tongue and didn't voice my displeasure as I have read on other reviews that this place will find any reason to keep your $100 deposit. STAY AWAY FROM HERE!! read more

The room itself was dated and filthy. Drain flies were abundant. Stains, chipped paint, dirty walls, baseboards, door frames, stinking carpet.... Everything you fear. Check in was fast and the receptionist is friendly. Gave me a map of the hotel with the wifi password. The parking was great and they provided a basket of hygiene care product like shampoo, lotion and a soap bar. I stayed here for a night and it's not really a good experience. Found hair in the bathtub and saw 2 cockroaches; 1 chilling on the side of the bed and the other in the bathtub. I also made some eye contact with a sketchy person in the hotel, thankfully, nothing happened during my stay. There's no clock or telephone provided but the room was quiet at night, so the sleep was okay. They do require a $100 deposit that will be returned after you check-out. The hotel does have great potential if they work on remodeling, fumigating and hygiene improvements. read more

7/10-7/14/20 I stayed here for a few days as I was traveling and taking a weekend off to explore the near by parks. My company booked this hotel, and at first glance, it looked like a run down motel. But honestly, it's not the worst place. It did have a funky smell upon entering my room, maybe the outdated carpet and bedding had something to do with it. But thankfully, no bed bugs, as I always check. The shower is a bit short, and I'm 5'6", so I can't imagine how it would be for someone taller. The water leaks out onto the floor, so there's that. I was also woken up by housekeeping when I set out the sign and adjusted the very old fashion door sign that was clearly ignored. I liked this place because it looked cool during the daytime, there's a large garden and pool but of course it was closed due to covid. Overall, it's not the best but it's not terrible. For the price, I'd stay here again, just check your room. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. read more

The onsite management uses a nearby neighbor to "police" the property. The "security" fellow is very belligerent and I have witnessed harassment to other motel guests . Room was ok overall but did smell like smoke . Property maintenance needs to be worked on, lots of trash and cigarette butts onsite. I called front about what I saw with "security" harassing and threatening other guests and desk associate on phone didn't seem interested at all. I complained to the property owner. and 3 weeks after checking out I got a call back from assistant manager I was called a jerk for complaining to the owner of business . Call it what you want verbal threats and attempted intimidation due to complaining . I was suggest not staying at this property due to concerns of my own and other guests near me. This hotel was okay. We stayed here for one night since my fiancé had a sleep study procedure and didn't want to drive home at 4am. And this was cheap and close to the medical office. The mattress was super springy and left both mine and my fiancé's back hurting. There's also not many outlets to plug things in. So it seemed outdated. The outside of the hotel was cute though. This motel isn't really clean or safe! Went there this past Friday because my friend, and I wanted to go see Sequoia National Park. At first glance the place looks cute, but it's just not safe. There was mildew on the shower tiles and the chairs were dusty. The queen sized beds we were promised, were actually full sized. Ok. No big deal. I mean we weren't going to Visalia to stay at the inn. We went to dinner and when we got back, our room was like an oven! We called to get this resolved only to find out that the temperature system is automated, and the temperature in the room is guided by the temperature outside. The place basically does not let the guests control the room temperature! We were then told to leave the windows and door open to get cold air in! I don't know about you, but I don't feel comfortable leaving the door or the window open for just anyone to come in WHILE I AM ASLEEP! This is where I'm basing this one star review...the window in question was a sliding door that opened right into the open public hallway! To tell your two female guests to leave the "window" and door open while they're asleep is just a huge recipe for disaster! It's just not safe! How the heck are we supposed to sleep comfortably when ANYONE can waltz right into our room and steal our stuff or cause us harm! Plus, to add a maraschino cherry on top, the front desk worker "Chris" was not helpful, just extremely rude. Have stayed here several times because it's the most reasonably priced motel in Visalia. It's not fancy and it definitely shows it's age, but is perfectly adequate for a night or two. Fridge and microwave in room. There's a pool but never used it. Nearby to restaurants and shopping and close to highway. Clean and good rates. read more

I purposely did not go to the office as we were mad, very disappointed, and I didn't want to raise my voice about the condition of our room, #257. This is a room that should be immediately closed off until repaired and updated. In addition to the old and decrepit room, there was a loud mechanical and consistent banging of heavy pipes from the roof above our room. Shower was filthy, scum-grout, chipped and very old sink basin, old filmy acrylic faucets. Faucet in sink dripped and we could not stop it. Ended up putting a thick washcloth in the sink to buffer the drip, drip, drip. Not enough outlets. We have stayed at the Lamplighter for over 20 years. Never again. read more
