We've stayed at The Darling a few times now as we have family in the area. We tend to gravitate…read moretowards boutique hotels beyond "big box" properties and The Darling definitely fits the bill in that regard. The rooms are always clean, the Elderwood is an ice touch, and the vibe is always fun. During this trip, all was fine when what sounded like the HVAC system above our room started to knock. It's an old historic building so, things happen. The knocking though quickly turned into a roar. We contacted the front desk and this is where the true professionalism of the hotel crew, and particularly Maria, shined through. Maria quickly came upstairs, assessed the situation, triaged with other teams inside the hotel, and identified a solution within 20 minutes. Given the scope of the repair was unclear at the time, she moved us to another room and even upgraded us (even though she didn't have to!) for the inconvenience. Things happen, that's not an issue for us, it's how the team addresses them when they come up. The Darling team rose to the occasion with flying colors so seamlessly in this situation, especially Maria. So for us, just underscores a series of positive experiences at the hotel. This isn't an ultra luxury 5-star hotel, so don't come here expecting that. But it's a great place to stay in Visalia with a premium, boutique vibe, great restaurant, and clean well apportioned rooms. We will be back.

Room service was good quality, appropriately priced and arrived quickly. The only reason I couldn't give this 5 stars was there was no internal secondary lock on the door which made it feel a little unsafe as a solo traveler and also there were not clear instructions about how to enter the gated parking lot upon checking in. Otherwise I had a good stay and would consider visiting again just to eat at the restaurant.

The shower situation didn't help. The tub spout simultaneously pours out more water than the showerhead, so while you're trying to shower, the tub starts filling up due to a slow/clogged drain. Check-in was quick and friendly, which I appreciated. However, we were given incorrect information about the nearest EV supercharger. There are two chargers in the parking lot, but they're extremely slow. If they're occupied in the evening, expect those cars to sit there overnight because they'll just be left there. Let's call it the overnight special. UPDATE NEXT MORNING: "Lead foot" upstairs kept going well past midnight, then started up again around 6am. We were getting up anyway, but still. Lesson learned: request the top floor if you stay here. On the plus side, the continental breakfast was decent. Standard options (eggs and sausage) plus a few extras like a pancake maker, warm cinnamon rolls, and biscuits and gravy. Also nice choices for folks on the go, oatmeal packets, Chobani yogurts, hard boiled eggs, etc. Also worth noting, the Tesla destination chargers are free, which is a great perk if you can grab one. The fitness room was well equipped with treadmills, an elliptical, rowing machine, weight benches, and dumbbells. There's also a water refill station in there, which is convenient if you have a bottle with you. Would we stay here again? Sure... just on the top floor next time. 3.5 Stars.

We decided to find an alternative place to stay for the night and during our search came across Best Western. Customer Service assisted us quickly and thankfully they had a room available for us. Reserving was quick and easy. When we arrived we checked in at the front desk--it also went quick and smooth, with no issues whatsoever. Pricing was fair for what we were getting and the room was spacious, clean and comfortable. Tv had plenty of channels to browse through, the bed was very comfortable and we had a great night's sleep. In the morning, before checking out, we went downstairs to their breakfast, included with our reservation, and it was basic, but good!! We filled up on waffles, eggs and sausage, though they also carry cereals, yogurt, bagels and other items. Overall had a wonderful experience here and would definitely come back!

Included a microwave, coffee maker, fridge, 2 TV, centralized AC. Beds were comfy. -Sequoia shuttle service right across the street at the convention center -Weekend staff was welcoming and nice (didn't get the guys name at the front desk in the evenings but he was awesome) -Complimentary early breakfast buffet 5-930am -Free garage parking Cons: -Only 1 very slow elevator for 4 floors -Weird smell in the hallways upstairs but not in the room luckily -car reving their engines at night in the parking garage for no reason?? lol -when we checked in they didn't give us breakfast tickets so we weren't aware we were supposed to have one but we were told it was free and where it was located. On Sunday they didn't ask for tickets but on Monday they did and we were confused. I only had key cards to show and the lady was nice/understanding and let us eat anyway

From cars revving their engines for the sole purpose of setting off car alarms in the parking structure, to the loud partying going on and this was every night we were there. When I asked the morning desk clerk if the noise was every night the response was "pretty much". ~A glass framed picture just fell off the bathroom wall and shattered on the floor which next to my friend's foot the first morning. She had just walked in and it fell. She had a small cut on her heel from the flying glass. Tried to use the room phone to call the front desk but it didn't work so I had to google the hotel phone # and use my cell to call down to get someone to clean it up. I believe it was a manager that came up and brought some alcohol wipes and a couple of bandaids and apologized. ~Came back to the hotel after a long days of hiking and the bathroom was cleaned up but housekeeping took the shower floor towel and didn't replace it. So I called down to the desk on my cell and we were told we could come get one! Not someone will bring one up, we had to go and get it!! ~Signs around the hotel stated that they were doing some renovations. Not sure if our room was in the process. Rust on interior of the bathroom door, errant white paint marks on brown wall by window, faucet base set so far back you couldn't get your hand under the water stream without getting water all over the back of the vanity. Bathroom door handle had paint or caulk on it. ~The shower head had a high pitched tone when you turned it on that remained as long as the water was on. ~Hotel has 4 floors and 1 elevator and it's the slowest elevator I've ever experienced. Sometimes if it was full you'd have to wait till the next time it came. I tined it once and I waited 9 minutes and 28 seconds. Had a long drive and wanted to break it up, so we stopped here for the night and were pleasantly surprised when they threw in an all you can eat hot breakfast of bacon, eggs, hash browns, toast, waffles, coffee, juice, fruit and other things that escape me. Considering what it costs to eat out these day, that is an added value we could not overlook. Best Western Town & Country Lodge was the nearest location to the event, safe neighborhood, and that was rated more than a 2-Star. For a 3-Star hotel, they meet the standard amenities. They even have an outdoor pool and hot tub. The hot tub was out of service at the time of my visit. PROS -Self parking on the premises with cameras. -Near my event with restaurants nearby. -Reasonable price. -Free breakfast. CONS -Noise at night from the busy road. -Walls are paper thin. -I smelled Coffee at 6 AM! Why? -No blackout curtains. -Loud AC unit made random clicking sound. Overall, my stay was fine for one night. If I was to stay more than one night, I would ask for the a room in the back of the premises because I was woken up a couple of times by sirens and loud noise. I'm also a light sleeper. My room was on the second floor near the front desk. Although the room is dated, I can tell it was recently painted and upgraded with new furnishings. Well maintained and clean. The room is spacious and had all the basic amenities, plus a microwave! Complimentary breakfast 6-9 AM daily with a good variety. Coffee, tea, juice, waffle maker, toaster with bread, bagel and muffin, cereals and hot items like scrambled eggs, sausages and biscuits and gravy. I didn't have much interaction with the staff but they seem friendly.
