It hit all the hipster notes in terms of aesthetic and when we walked in, people were playing Settlers of Catan at their table non-ironically...lol. Oh, Lamplighter. I just love you! The beers, perfection! The events, spectacular! The pop-ups, outstanding! Lamplighter is my go-to place for a fun night. There's always something going on. I've been for a number of their collaborations with restaurants and they are always well-planned and fun. My friends and I recently went to their Love's A Drag drag brunch and it was SO fun! I'm hoping this is an annual event because it was the perfect thing to do with a Valentine's Day hangover! It is a brewery so I will quickly say, I love all the beers but the dark beers are perfection. I love the After Midnight and Coquito. This is such a fun spot and with the addition of Pepita during the day it's an all-around great spot to hang out! read more

Favorite brewery in Cambridge! Lamp has a good selection of beers and a few options for other types of drinks. I love their kombucha but its very limited menu for those with gluten intolerance. Also ask for bar snacks- they have little jars filled with animal crackers or cheese it's for noshing while you drink (fo freeeee). Great space with lots of people - earlier in the day you can find people doing homework or work on a computer, in the evenings it fills up and can get pretty busy and loud with people playing games and just having a good time. There's a room in the back that people sometimes don't realize exists. They also have tonsssss of pop ups and events. Also the people working there are so friendly and nice if you talk to them. If you really love it you can also join the luminary society which is a membership bottle program to get limited edition small batch brews that don't make it to the main menu. read more

I am honestly not a beer person. And yes , I asked if they had wine. They don't. They said they had a bear that tasted like wine so I got it. A friend was paying so I don't even know the name of it. It was drinkable:) and boy did it make me tipsy. I never in my life finished a beer before. I finished this. It was very sweet! I don't know how to discern "hoppy" from "malty" so I'm no help there. I'd get it again. Anyway we came last night (a Friday night) to celebrate my BFF's bday. This is her favorite place. It's quite an interesting place. Packed ...people waiting on tables like vultures. People who have tables are playing board games. Someone even brought in a pizza. The only food they have are pierogis. We bought the all but the kielbasa. I only happened to taste the potato and cheese. Delicious. Very inexpensive. We got there about 6:30 but by about 8:30 they ran out of most kinds. So get your fill early if you want some! My girlfriend and I went to Lamplighter last night for a drink. We had a great time! What stuck out to us was the atmosphere. So much better than some crappy pub where recent college grads go to get trashed. This was a nice place with people in their mid to late twenties and early thirties. You can tell they care about the quality of their drinks. We had an apricot sour that was, well, sour, but delicious! Would definitely recommend. Nice spot for a casual drink with friends. This brewery is aesthetically pleasing. I'm obsessed with their geometric decor and lighting. It's very well put together! The area is large and spacious. There is plenty of seating area but can be super crowded if you're coming during a busy hours, or I would assume when people get off of work. I came around 5pm on a Wednesday and it was packed. It was very hard to settle down for the 4 of us. It took us a while to get our drinks since everyone was thinking of the same thing. Nonetheless, I really like the vibe of the brewing company. Considering it was super packed, I was still able to converse with my friends and not have to yell over each other lol. They have a large selection of beers named after illumination terms. It's super cute. I went on and tried the "Euro" flight which consist of 4 5oz glasses for a total of $8.50. I enjoyed all of them, they were very unique for my tastebuds. I've never taken a brewery tour before, despite my unyielding love of craft beer. So it was a wonderful treat to stop by Lamplighter for a few pre-dinner drinks on Saturday night. I'm very loyal to Belgian-style beers, but if I'm at a place that predominately serves local beers or better yet, an actual brewery, I'll opt for variety every time. I hadn't heard of Lamplighter prior to this most recent trip to Boston, but I'm glad I've finally been introduced to it in the best way. Lamplighter is a great option for a casual night out with friends, just be prepared to stand if you go at a peak time. Lamplighter is laid out in a pretty awesome way. Behind the bar, you'll find windows as opposed to walls to expose the craft (no pun intended) as it happens. Massive tanks of that goodness. Enjoy your beer, with a view. The bar area is long and winds down to the back of the space, with a number of hightop tables/communal, garden-style tables taking up the majority of the space. If you're able to snag it, there's also a nice little nook with couches up a couple stairs if you stroll along to the back of the venue. My single gripe here was the lack of seating for the traffic, overall. We managed to find a little space at the very end of the bar on which to place our drinks, but it was not easy. Even proper table space might require you to stand. So maybe don't wear heels if you're planning on camping out here for a while. This all said, we went around 8:15/8:30 on a Saturday night, so this may have just been a function of day/time. In any case, we still managed to have a great time here. As far as libations are concerned, Lamplighter has a really nice selection of beers on tap. I tried just about every beer on the menu and was impressed by the variety/flavors/creativity. Definitely had some interesting sips. Not everything impressed me, but the overall impressive was very, very good. Not to mention the prices are hard to beat. I live in NYC full-time, so I'm used to a pretty abominable price tag when it comes to drinks. At Lamplighter, you can get a flight of four beers for $8.50, which is a great deal in my book. If you'd prefer to commit more and get a single beer, they offer two sizes (as every craft beer bar should, honestly) with two tiers of pricing. Average beer will go for $5 if you want 8.5 oz or $7.50 for the largest size (sizes vary depending on ABV, as usual). The bf and I started with the "Welcome to the Jungle Flight", which is comprised of the "Group Theory", the "Lumens", the "Werewolves of Cambridge" and the "Birds of a Feather". Least favorite was the Group Theory, my favorite was either the Werewolves (a porter) or the Lumen (a Belgian blonde, so not surprising that I enjoyed it). I also tried my dad's first beer, the 'Round Midnight, which was varied and yummy thanks to the addition of some cold brew. My favorite beer of the night was the "So Much For Subtlety", which is a pretty complex DIPA. Overall very impressed with the product here. And if you're looking for a little nosh, the pretzels here look bomb. Next time I won't come prior to a dinner reservation! read more

Parking is very hard to find! You'll probably have to find a lot that's a mile away or if you're lucky, you'll be able to find parking on the street. Came here on 3/14, which is also known as pi day!! They had a pie pop up event when I came so there was a huge line waiting outside, it also happened to be a freezing cold day when I went, so it was awful waiting outside. However when I got in, I was not disappointed, their beers are very delicious and the atmosphere was great. Was able to get a table for my party of 6 and we hung out there for a few hours and got to enjoy the delicious pie too! This is hands down my favorite brewery in Cambridge. If you're considering stopping by, just do it. What I love about Lamplighter is that you can find customers sipping coffee and working on laptops, or enjoying a beer with friends. You can ask for samples of beer and they always have an interesting new beer on tap. The back room (keep walking down the hallway with bathrooms) features much more seating, a darker ambiance, and a second bar. Love Lamplighter! Beers: they have a great variety of rotating beers and 2 options for flights. Since the space also features a coffee shop, a couple of the beers are made with espresso or cold brew which is always an interesting and fun change of pace. They're definitely a bit heavy on IPAs, but have plenty of non-hoppy options for people like me who prefer wheaty/malty beers. I will say this isn't the spot to go if you love heavy, earthy, session beers. They have one porter that's pretty mild in my opinion and no stouts. It could be that they have more diversity in the winter though. I've only been in the spring/summer. Non-alcoholic: I've only been after 3pm, so Longfellows cafe hasn't been open for me. They do have a few coffee options available even after 3pm though, a regular or a nitro cold brew. I had the regular and it was awesome but potent. Drink slowly or get the jitters. They also have carafes of water and glasses you can help yourself to which is awesome when you don't want to flag down a bartender over and over. Other options for the non-drinkers include homemade sodas and kombucha. The tumeric kombucha was tasty but maybe a liiiiiittle overkill on the spice level. Still liked it though. Food: they do NOT serve food here, but they encourage you to bring your own or have delivery. They DO have free bar snacks which is awesome. They're mini mason jars of goldfish/pretzels/etc. and you can grab as many as you'd like from the bartenders. Apparently they also occasionally sell some small snacks from pop-up vendors, but I haven't gotten any either time I've been. Space/seating: It's not a huge space so you usually have to wait/hover for a while to get a table or some bar space. I wouldn't recommend coming with a group larger than 4 or 5. The ambiance is industrial/casual with lots of natural light. They also have tons of board games you can play, as well as decks of cards. Bathrooms: maybe this is TMI, but I was super impressed with the bathrooms. They buy really nice toilet paper. Like, the double-plush, super expensive Charmin toilet paper. That may seem like a weird/stupid thing to mention in a review, but compared to the crappy tissue paper-like toilet paper so many bars buy, it's just a nice touch. Also, the soap in the bathroom smells amazing. Legitimately. I had a friend compliment the scent of my hand lotion thinking it was mine and not just the lingering scent of freshly washed hands. From an asthetics standpoint, Lamplighter is a goergous brewery. Their taproom overlooks the brewhouse, which is less than a year old. The taproom itself is clean and well lit, has little plants hanging from the wall, a true respite for a millenial after a long day of doing...millenial things? But...this is Cambridge, and in my short time here I've learned that the good people of this town are smart. And smart people can see through the facade of a nice front, they want the substance. Lampligher, in my opinion has it. The beer: Lamplighter has an eclectic selection of beers that can please the palate of just about anyone. They have their crowd pleasers, such as my favorite, Ele, a saison that is as textbook saison as you will ever find. However, they also push the envelope and are willing to experiment with styles that other places might wait to see if the jury is out on it yet or not (for example single hopped orion 7 beers...the absolute worst in my book). It does get very crowded and loud, but if you can catch this place at a tamer time - It is wonderful. There are games you can pick up and play with friends, free snacks and a huge bar. My coworker recommended this spot among others and I am so happy that we went to this one. After getting our ID's checked and our hands stamped with a lamplight, we walked up to the bartender to order a flight. We then asked for a recommendation based off my boyfriend's preferences. We ended up with the Not McKinley and their first flight option on the menu, All of the Lights. We were happy to get a flight of the lighter beers and something hoppier for him to enjoy. I loved getting to try a variety of beers and liked them all, but definitely preferred two of the drinks in the fight more than the others. This brewery has a very comfortable atmosphere. Funky art is all of the walls - even in the bathroom! They had a whole bookcase of card games (like Exploding Kittens and Cards Against Humankty) and board games (like Risk) which made for a great way to pass the time while enjoying our beer. We found a little corner with a counter, a lamp, and some stools all to ourselves. I went to checkout the game shelf and was so excited to see Othello, a game I grew up playing with my father, and brought it over. I got to teach my boyfriend how to play, schooling him on his first game, but just as our chess games go, he managed to turn the tables on me in the following games and beat me. It wasn't until the end of our time at this brewery that I noticed it had a whole back room past the bathrooms which was louder in ambient noise; people were chatting to each other and laughing. If I was looking to meet someone new, I would definitely head back there to strike up a conversation with a stranger. Overall, a totally awesome place to enjoy beer and good company. I respect that, and blame myself for being unprepared; the Easy Tiger may be a divisive brew that strikes the nose with a stanky cheese fragrance before drinking smoother than you'd expect. Same brew gets barrel aged, and mellows out the ripe scent in Astral Weeks (only avail in the taproom). Thrilled as a gose fan to see Metric Systems, and while the mild salinity and lactic pungency made for easy drinking, I didn't catch the coriander or other herbal flavors you'd associate with this style du jour. Heavier than a session but just as sippable, it's a perfectly pleasing brew that serves as a great entree to those hesitant on goses. Lamplighter is a great place to hang out with a few friends and have some drinks. The staff is very friendly and fairly quick, there's no food served (but they usually have some kind of pop up restaurant in the back corner) and the open space makes it feel both cozy and cool on hot days. This place does get fairly crowded with the 'after work' crowd on weekdays, but if you stay long enough they clear out in about a couple hours. It does get tight during these times but I never felt so packed that it was uncomfortable which is a plus (and rare at these smaller breweries). There's also a few scattered board games which I saw at some tables but didn't use - maybe next time :) The brunch stout was my favorite, but the jungle flight was a good way to try a few different beers without too much commitment (in both appetite and spending). It is definitely well worth the price and money to buy a rack(4 cans), crawler, or why have you, then to go to a packie and buy the mass made and produced swill water called beer. Lamplighter is the first, if not one of the first ones to step up to the plate and help out when tragedy strikes. When the big 10 alarm fire hit the neighborhood 4 years ago, they were there, ready to help. When the fire right around the corner on Columbia Street happened a few weeks ago, again, Lamplighter was there to help as always. There was something about the yeast they use that threw me off. It had a funky taste I wasn't a fan of. I recently gave them another try. This time it was better. Racist!!!I am a 25 year old black woman and this was a dominantly white bar. Keep I'm mind that many of my coworkers had expired IDs and I was the ONLY one they were watching and TARGETED! I went with my coworkers and boss for a company happy hour. They first REFUSED to let me in since my ID was a month past the expiration date. However, after speaking to management they let me go to my work event. During the event I had a drink and the assistant manager immediately snatched my drink from the table and forced me to leave. The bar didn't even use an ID scanner to make sure IDs were valid. They also did not restrict other non Black or white attendees with expired IDs from drinking which means I was targeted on purpose. read more

We went here around noon on a weekend and it was packed. Local brews made on site is the key attraction for all. Most people were there for coffee/small bites but my group was there for the beer!! :) The interiors are very industrial looking and the attraction of the place is the brewery which is in full view from the bar. The bar itself has a distinctive tile facade and is an interesting interior feature. Drinks have to be ordered at the bar and they are very particular about checking ID's. Must carry a US issued ID here because they asked for my passport ( which no one carries around!!) The menu has a good selection of beers,small bites and coffee. The most popular thing here is the Beer Flight ($9.50 or $11.50) to get a taste of many brews at once. I tries the Cuppa beer ($4.50 8oz and $7.50 16oz) on draft and it was really really good 10/10. The flavor was great and I could taste all the ingredients mentioned. My friends also tried the Kombucha ($4.00) which was delicious too hence the non alcoholic options are worth a try as well. The prices in my opinion were actually really good for the premium product and it is value for money for sure. Note: The 8oz. is a standard size glass so it is not small by any means. They also have Beers to go !!! Score. I did not try the food this time but will go back to try it and the other brews for sure .Overall it was a great experience and I recommend this place to all. Hung out at Lamplighter Brewing on Saturday afternoon. Ordered the Welcome To The Jungle Flight and tried four other beers they had on draft. Quality Lamplighter Brewing has managed to generate a good amount of buzz across the brewery scene, so I knew I needed to stop in during my visit to Boston. I started how I always do, ordering a Flight. Rather than build-your-own, they had two pre-set Flights, which personally I was not a fan of. Nevertheless, I went with Welcome To The Jungle, which came with Jagged Little Pils (Foeder Pils), Milou (Belgian Dubbel), Birds Of A Feather (NE IPA), and Kieran (Barrel-Aged Barleywine). During my visit I also tried Brunch (Nitro Breakfast Stout), Rabbit Rabbit (NE Double IPA), Brothers Antitoi (Wild Beer), and Riley (Barrel-Aged Mixed Sour). First, I have to say they are brewing the right beers. With hazy IPAs and sour beers dominating the menu, they clearly are paying attention to what beer lovers want. But more than that, they are doing the beers well. Brothers Antitoi was absolutely incredible with strawberry flavor, lots of tartness, and, as described, a funky flavor. Rabbit Rabbit was a perfect NE IPA with excellent mouthfeel and a wonderful fruitiness. Brunch too was a hit for me, a beer that easily could go with brunch. The only beer I did not love was Kieran, just too heavy and sharp. Still, such an impressive showing and so many hits. Quantity Even with a massive crowd, they poured every beer well. The challenge however was trying to navigate the crowd without losing too much of it. Value The pre-set Flights were $10.50, while full pours cost between $7.50 and $9.50. Very reasonable prices for the beer they are churning out. Ambiance Lamplighter Brewing is located in Cambridge, Massachusetts. I believe it was formerly a garage space, but the brick building that houses it is gorgeous. Inside they have two sections, the tap room and then the brewery itself. The brewery area also has a to-go shop for those not willing to deal with the crowd. The tap room is relatively large and has two areas, but it still was not enough. In the front they have their main bar, which actually doubles as a coffee shop in the morning. Around the bar they have high tops and a raised lounge area. A narrow hallway on the right wall leads to a second room, which was just as busy. A smaller bar sits here with slightly less choices. Benches fill up the middle of the room and the walls have bar space, just with no seating. What was strange was different music playing in each area. The front was indie rock, while the back was blasting late 90s and early 2000s teen pop. This also meant more drunk individuals singing along in the back. Crowd I believe Lamplighter Brewing was the busiest brewery I have ever been to. It was jam-packed when we entered with no seats in either area and minimal room to even lean. Yet somehow over the course of our visit it got even busier. I think if not for the massive crowd we would have stayed all night. Clearly there is no secret that this place has quality brews. Service With the massive crowd that had gathered, it was clear they were just doing the best they could. I was impressed that they still allowed Flights when it got so busy, but that definitely slowed things down even more. It is hard to fault the staff when there is such an overwhelming number of people visiting. Parking Street parking appeared to be the only option and not much was available. I would suggest public transportation or taking a car service. Extra Lamplighter Brewing is simply great. The worst thing about it is that everyone else seems to know. The space just couldn't handle the large crowds and it eventually caused us to leave. However, even as we left we grabbed a few beers to-go. read more

Loved the space and vibe( I hate to use those words but it's true) Great lighting, friendly service. Many different languages and accents, ages and styles going on here. That in itself is exciting to be apart of. The adjoining table spoke beautiful French all evening. Lots of conversations and laughter. Inviting seating areas of couches, sleek wooden picnic type tables and hi tops plus the huge wrap around bar. I beat Lee in a very long game of Scrabble that went on forever because there were many sets of tiles in the little bag. Fun !! We had a tough time deciding where to order food from and if we lived here I would certainly plan ahead and prepare an elaborate charcuterie plate garnished with fruit, figs and nuts... but this is not the case, so we decided on the Fig pizza from All Star and it was delivered in a very short amount of time. I could easily spend hours at Lamplighter with all the board games they have! Their calendar of events is always loaded with collabs with restaurant pop ups like tacos and pierogis; on Valentine's Day we got these awesome waffles with fudge from Longefellow's Cafe which shares a space with Lamplights. The cafe is open in the mornings every day (weekdays 7am-2pm, weekends 8am-3pm) and the taproom opens later (Tues-Sat 11am-midnight, Sunday 11am-10pm). They don't offer food, just bar snacks, so all the pop ups with restaurants is a great way to introduce local restaurants and have food available for guests although they do allow you to BYOF (bring your own food) and even have a list of some restaurants nearby to order or pick up food from. I recommend trying their tasting flights to get four samples of the beer they offer. There's two: 1. Welcome to the Jungle (Gestalt, Simon Says, Lumen, Lucid Nonsense) and 2. Funk It Up (Subtlety, Easy Tiger, Metric, Astral Weeks) Personally, I liked the Funk It Up flight more that had more beer with fruity tones, and the Metric was definitely my fave since it was a gose. Went when they re-opened indoor seats a day before. It was quite packed but was able to snag seats. I ordered a Lazy Tiger and was amazing. I don't think they sell it but if they do, I would get this in a heartbeat. They have a wide selection with unique names to their beers. read more

I came for picklefest on 7/27/19. It is such a cute and aesthetically pleasing place. There is a front and back, definitely a good place to grab a beer with buddies. They have board games as well. I'm not a beer person but they have a good variety of beer for decent pricing. It is hard finding parking around the area because it's mostly permit parking. The place also doesn't have AC (or at least I didn't feel AC) and I was lowkey sweating. Awesome beers - tried a NE IPA, Porter, and the Quad...all were outrageously good. It's a fun place, too, with lots of games to play. Only downside is how crowded it usually is and that seating is very limited. read more

A great Brewery and coffee shop. We enjoyed the beer and lunch menus. We really enjoyed all the IPAs. A wonderful selection and very tasty. When we travel we look for local breweries. We use the untapped ap to log our beers to keep track of what we have tried and how we liked it. This was a great find outside the city and away from the chaos of tourist groups. We wanted to wander around Cambridge. This place was quite busy on Saturday at noon. We lucked out and got seats at the bar. The lunch is small but has a bit of everything regarding breakfast, soups, salads or sandwiches. A good amount of vegetarian dishes. We tried the egg sandwich, the cauliflower patty and turkey sandwich. Good sized sandwiches which you could share depending on your hunger level. All served toasted on the same bread. read more

Cool calm and collective. Saturday morning we came to meet old friends. When I moved out of Cambridge, this place was an auto repair shop - love seeing the new option! The nitro cold brew caught my eye, but the cold brew flight was really fun and tasty. The seasonal cold brew was my favorite with fruity and floral notes! The jasmine sparkler green tea cold brew was awesome. Ambiance is comfortable, hip, not pretentious. Staff seems nice, but service can lag. Price point is fair. Kinda wish we hadn't moved knowing that this place has opened! On a side, we also came the previous night during bar hour. Free snack from the bar and it gets crowded quickly! read more
