I love Lamps! It's one of my favorite places to go when I'm out in the burbs visiting my friend. She has a few friends who work here, and while they can't drink on the job, it's fun to all hang out, even though they are working. I've only been here once during the weekend and it was extremely crowded. We try to spend most of our time outside, as it gets really hot inside when there are a lot of people. However, most of the time we are there during the week, so there's more room inside to drink, play darts, and hang out. What I love most about Lamps is how laid-back it is. It's not a high-end, fancy bar where everyone is super dressed up and dancing. You can go in sweatpants and have a few beers after work, and no one is going to think less of you. read more

I went for the first time last night to check out their open mic. The building is adorable and every staff member was SO nice. Decent beer selection and fair prices. We didn't eat, so I can't tell you about the food. If you are interested in the open mic, it's pretty cool. Rick and Steve do a wonderful job. It takes place on the second floor in a spacious yet cozy room. You get 3 songs or 15 minutes, whichever happens first, music only. No poetry, no comedy. Every Wednesday. Very fun place to go and hang out with friends, watch a spots game, or celebrate a special occasion. They have two totally different atmospheres there too. The top level is where the dancing is and the bottom level is more of a spots bar area with darts and other table entreatment. This is a great place to grab a drink at after work also or get lunch in the afternoon. They have great food. You can order anything and you will be happy. read more

I get carry out from Lamplighter from time to time and always like their food. I would recommend the Lasagna. It comes with a salad and garlic bread which are both really good as well. The only thing I did not like was the meatballs which are optional. Food is always ready pretty quick and the employees are easy to deal with. read more

This bar gets pretty packed during the weekends. The service is pretty good considering how busy it gets. Definitely a younger crowd after 10. I've been working with the management at Lamplighters for an upcoming fundraiser. They have been amazingly accomodating and helpful. I have been to Lamps on many occasions and love it - this place is especially great in the summertime when you can sit out on their patio and enjoy lunch or dinner. Great drinks and bar style food, growing up in Chicago more like a neighborhood bar. Cheapest drinking spot in downtown Palatine and still getting great service. If you want to be randomly CHOKED OUT by the joke of security there, go to this place. Nov 18, a fight ensued and while trying to walk away from the drama 3 innocent civilians were choked out (not grabbed, not head locked, CHOKED OUT to the point of nearly losing consciousness). Why don't you try hiring security personnel who don't have a superiority complex and actually have a grain of intelligence! This is the place to go if you are looking for good food, laid back atmosphere and friendly staff!! They have indoor and outdoor seating, good music and a large menu! Since they opened up for breakfast, my family and I have made a point to go there every weekend! The food is excellent and the prices are very reasonable!! The only downside, is that a LOT of early 20-somethings hang out here on Friday and Saturday nights, so if you are looking for a *quiet* place to drink and socialize I'd avoid the main bar on these days. Place is awesome! I have been coming here for decades. Back when I first turned 21 and now as a mom of 2 we come for family fun night to enjoy music outside and the face painters. The people who work here are hard working family people who work tough jobs dealing with the public (drunk public). They have kids who go to the local schools and play sports. They get involved in the community with various fundraisers hosted throughout the year. Lamplighters is a contributing part of the Palatine community. The DJ who usually plays upstairs is absolutely awful. Doesn't take any requests and doesn't really know what's up when it comes to current music trends. The saddest part is that he's just there to entertain himself and thinks he's making everyone vibe when he's playing bass hunter and ratchet playlists all night. This place turns into a young kid hangout as the night goes on... I asked the bartender how often they clean the taps for the beer, and they looked at me as if I was speaking a foreign language. So last night I decided to stop at lamps for a drink with some friends. I ordered a shot of whiskey. My shot came out hot... Not warm, hot! I asked the bartender, Brian, for an ice cube. He immediately snapped at me that he was busy with something else and that I should wait for the other bartender. I told him I didn't appreciate his tone. I feel as a paying customer, I do deserve some amount of respect. After voicing my opinion, quite amicably, the bartender waved a bouncer over and had me removed from the building at which point they called the police. The officer showed up and asked me to leave, which I was fine with, because I don't intend to give any more business to this bar. The way this situation was handled was absolutely uncalled for, but I guess I'm not surprised when I consider the bar and their employees reputations, as well as the bar/bouncer atmosphere in palatine. Needless to say the cop was not necessary, and he even saw it as being more than a little ridiculous to be called for something so trivial. Lamplighters does not value its customers, they don't do a good job serving, I've on a few occasions gotten wrong orders, and on more than a few, have gotten a lot of attitude from this establishment. So good job lamps, one less customer and one more bad yelp review. So fair warning to any potential patrons of this establishment, expect to be disrespected and expect subpar service and goods. Took a friend here for breakfast today with hopes of mimosas and omelets. Turned out to be an awful, embarrassing mistake. Literally took 10 minutes for the waitress to bring our coffee/tea. After another 15 minutes we had to call her over so we could place our orders. Never offered refills on our beverages and we never bothered to order mimosas as we would probably still be waiting for them. The omelets were oily and flat, and the peppers, onions and mushrooms inside were over cooked. The only saving grace were the potatoes, which were decent. Surely it is the bar that keeps this establishment afloat as that is by far the absolute worst breakfast and service I have ever had in a restaurant. read more

This is the one bar I would consider driving over an hour to get to each week. The atmosphere is nice and friendly downstairs as it is throughout the bar, but Karaoke Thursdays (and the occasional Karaoke Saturday) upstairs is where the real party happens! From the bouncers, to the bar tenders, to the crew that runs the Karaoke... everyone is so welcoming and friendly. Another bonus comes at the end of the night, when you realize you haven't had to spend a small fortune to have a good time. read more
