I was referred to Lan by a long-time customer and I'm so glad I followed through with making an appointment. I called on a Sunday and she was able to get me in the same afternoon. I have long hair that I've been growing out for a few years and my last cut was about a year ago. Lan did a fantastic job cutting off the dry ends, adding in some long layers, blow-drying, and styling my hair!! She also took the time to give me tips on how to keep my hair from falling towards my face at work all day, and I ran right out to buy the clips that will work perfectly. Amazing value and service. Also, they have always gone the extra mile to be COVID safe. All the staff wear K95 masks & they're all fully vaccinated/boosted. The salon is spacious with high ceiling and they're never too crowded because of the salon's layout. All customers follow the mask mandate and staff politely enforce it. I'm very COVID cautious and I genuinely feel safe here I get pedicures and gel manicures, and they always take their time/do a great job (and are extremely affordable!). They have an unparalleled color selection, including OPI, mood changing colors, and a ton of other top brands for both gel colors and regular. If you are in a hurry and tell them, they will be super efficient and finish by the time you need. Otherwise, they are happy to pamper you and let it be an extra relaxing process, if you have more time to spare. All of my haircuts I've gotten from Lan have looked better than $100+ boutiques. So this is a bit of a mixed review because the people who work here are very nice and accommodating, however, they are able to do so at the expense of cutting corners. I came in for a haircut when my own hairdresser was closed for a week due to the holidays, and I figured I'd try LAN Beauty Salon again (I used to go there a lot when Tina worked there). Lan, who owns the business, was good enough to squeeze me in since she was waiting for the color on another client to process. I was very thankful for that, but unfortunately, she did not do a good job with my cut. She took three or four phone calls in the middle of my cut (which, mind you, was in the middle of another person's coloring appointment). During my hair appointment, I saw items reused between different stylists without sanitization in between which I would think is a no-no. Anyhow, it's been many weeks now, and I am still finding chunks of hair that were not trimmed to the same length as other bits of my hair, and I've had to take my own scissors to clean the bits up. I wish I had not gone there in the first place, and just cut my own hair since I would have done a better job and saved my money. Overall: Very nice people working here, but they need to manage their time better and to say no to walk-in clients like me if they don't have the time to do a thorough job. You can work fast and sloppy in some fields, but beauty is not one of them. read more

I've been going to Lan's for quite some time now, although I haven't had an opportunity to visit Lan over the pandemic. I have to say, she is an absolutely fantastic and talented stylist. I have thinning hair, so cutting my hair is always a precarious situation. However, I definitely trust being in her chair. She's done wonders with my highlights!! That being said, to Jessica A. from Westborough, I'm not sure how anyone with a conscience would find it okay to receive a service and then refuse to pay for services rendered. That level of brokeass scumbaggery is up there with being human garbage. I don't know how you have the audacity to go into a business, particularly one hard hit and impacted by the pandemic, and then cheat them by refusing to pay. I feel bad for Lan and any of the other workers there who were traumatized by your petulance and entitlement. Your hair will grow back but the trauma you've inflicted on Lan may last a lifetime. You asked for a haircut and then got mad that someone cut your hair?? Make it make sense! Do you go to Fentons and then get upset when they give you too much ice cream? I will likely come back try explore more of their services since their rates are so affordable. I dropped in for a manicure and a pedicure, and the service here was great quality. I dropped in for a nail appointment and I was all levels of disappointed. My biggest gripe was that I saw the woman use the same exact file on me and pass it to her partner to use on another person. Luckily I didn't get an infection but that's unacceptable. My nails came out mediocre, and I got a discount and she fixed the couple that were really bad, but I will not be returning here. I am very displeased with this service and I wish they didn't try to work so fast. Also I got nothing like the original design, it was really bad, so I just went with solid black. I would have rather she told me she couldn't do the design. I've been going to Lan's for years to get haircuts, manicures, and pedicures. Lan and Quyen are both amazing hairdressers (and amazing people)! Lan's taken me from black to platinum blonde, and Quyen's styled my hair so many different ways, from cute layered cuts to an edgy sideshave look. I've gone to many hair salons in SF and Oakland at all different price ranges, and literally will always choose Lan. The quality and cost there is unmatched imo. Recently, I got my brows tinted and an eyelash lift there by Nu, and I'm super happy with the results. My eyelashes are short and really straight, and it's really hard for them to stay curled. I was really surprised at the lift she was able to get! Lan tinted my brows, and they look really natural, which is really awesome as someone who doesn't like to wear that much makeup and is getting tired of doing my brows everyday. Anyway, I love this salon and also have noticed that their business has been growing over the years. As I sit on my bed, eating my chocolate ice cream, I think back to two hours ago when I was sitting in one of the few black waiting chairs at Lan Beauty Salon. I drove up to the salon and found parking across the street in a "pay to park" spot. ($.25 for 10 minutes). I went into the salon, which looked mediocre from the outside but pretty stylish inside. To tell the truth, I was extremely nervous. I've had my share of botched hair cuts - all which make me cringe to think about. Anyways, my heart was pounding and I could feel my face getting hot; I was tempted to run out of the shop and never look back...BUT I knew I couldn't because my hair was in dire need of a date with some silver scissors. I waited for a good 30 minutes (there were 2 guys getting haircuts and 2 women ahead of me in line) before I was called up. My knees wobbled as I walked to the hair-cutting chair and stepped over the balls of hair on the floor left from the previous client. I took a deep breath and so it began. I told LAN (the woman doing my hair) a general idea of what I wanted. She was so friendly and nice and we had a good conversation. I was still slightly nervous, even though I should have been put at ease by Lan's demeanor. 20 minutes later, I stood up and shook my head around and fondled my hair - it was perfect: it had flow and it didn't look like a curtain of black hair, but a cascade of black water (excuse my tackiness). Lan did everything I asked and even cut it to the exact length I asked for. My total came out to be $20 + $5 tip and it was well worth it. I will be visiting Lan Beauty Salon again. **for the record, I have really long, straight hair. It was about 13 inches past my shoulders and about 11.5 inches after my cut. ALSO, they do everything from cuts to color, perms, eyelash tinting/perm, waxing, facials and nail care. read more

This is now my go-to hair salon. I've gotten my hair cut by Gina a few times and she always does an amazing job! They don't wash your hair before cuts (is this a California thing?), but that's okay with me. It's hard to find a place that can cut Asian hair without making you look ridiculous, but Gina does a great job. She's fast and I pay $30 (before tip) for my medium length hair. I've also gotten a gel manicure here and the woman did a beautiful job! The color selection is a little small, but the work she does is superb. The owner sometimes brings her two small dogs in here and they're pretty cute. I've been able to pet one, but the other is a little more hesitant to be pet. The ladies are nice here, that I won't complain about. But after further inspection of my nails when I got home, I was not impressed. Each nail was a different shape, not very happy with my acrylics. From afar they look good most likely due to my neutral nail color. But I'm a bit of a perfectionist and these nails don't cut it. They aren't terrible but they aren't perfect either. I will have to have the redone when I get a chance. And for the price I paid I'm not to thrilled about that. Three stars for cleanliness and they took me right away. After reading a very recent review on Lan's Beauty Salon, I decided I'd come here over Lhasa's. I looked into both and read through the reviews, they both seemed pretty good... I wish I looked into it a bit more now. I brought some pictures of the hairstyle I wanted, but Gina showed me other pictures from books she had. I don't think she was clear on what I wanted, and she ended up giving me a lot of layers for a short cut. In the pictures I showed her, the hair wasn't really layered much, more of a straight cut. Also, I didn't expect the cut to be $25. I thought it was going to be $20. I wish she had told me earlier that it would be five dollars more for BLOW DRYING and styling. She didn't wash my hair or anything. I was a bit unhappy about that part, especially given that I wasn't exactly happy about my haircut (it didn't really look like the picture I had shown her). Sometimes my hair looks okay, but I was really expecting more from here. My bangs are not the length I had asked for. And you know that bangs take a while to grow out... so I have to pin them up sometimes. Aside from the haircut, Gina is nice and the place is pretty big. They do nails and waxing too so maybe they're better in that area? I wish I had gone to Lhasa's because I saw that they solely focused on haircuts after passing by it. read more

I went to get a haircut, I was infront of the mirror, sitting down when I explained how short I wanted it to be. I wanted my hair washed so she told me to get up and I started walking to the washing station. During my walk, she told me to stop (I thought she wanted to fix the cutting cape she put on me... she cut my hair... all of it from behind me while I was standing up) She said something before she cut my hair but I couldn't listen she was wearing a mask. I was so shocked when she held my bundle of hair right infront of my eyes. I stayed calm, I was about to cry but I waited until she washed my hair and blow dry it (I thought it would look longer dry) NO. It was way shorter than what I intended it to be. Her reason for cutting my hair standing up on the way to the wash station was "your hair was dry you don't need it anyway" "it will be hard to comb if you have that long hair" but that was still my hair. As a Salon hair stylist would you do this to your clients? I have never had a hair cut this way. It was always infront of the mirror, sitting down when my hair stylist would confirm me "is this the length you want" before cutting. I know this place was not as exquisite as other salon, but I didn't mind the money I was in the area and I wanted to give this salon the benefit of the doubt. Well I had an important job interview to go to so I decided to get a haircut to look presentable. I had been at this salon before and Lan cut my hair. My first experience was OK, nothing fancy, but not too horrible either. I am not picky and when I get a haircut that looks decent I consider this to be a satisfactorily experience. When I give a business one start it is because the experience was pretty awful. So I walk -in, (walk-ins are welcome) and ask if I can get a haircut. They say Lan will be available in about 15 minutes. I ask do I need an appointment they say no, just wait. So I wait. For half an hour. But that's not all. Another person comes in and they tell her to wait too. We wait. Another person comes in and they tell him to wait too. The lady who came in after me says that she wants a hair coloring (more expensive than a haircut) and Lan takes HER first. I am a little annoyed, but I do need that haircut for the interview the next day. So I keep waiting. Lan tells the guy she will take him next. What? I was there first; I let the lady with the coloring cut in, now the guy too? Lan says: "Well, he had an appointment..." Didn't I ask to get an appointment? They told me I didn't need one. The guy gets tired of waiting and leaves. I give myself mental props for being tough and resilient, not like the guy. I think, " See, I out-waited you guy with an appointment" Hair coloring takes forever! " Gee, the guy was smart to leave." It is getting dark. It feels like I have been there the whole afternoon. I contemplate giving up on the haircut. Lan waives at me and says "You can sit and I cut your hair while the color on the other person is setting." " Nice!" " I think, so practically she takes me to fill in the time. I show her a picture of what I want. She disregards it and says it's not going to work. She will cut my hair the way she wants to. She has barely finished the back of the hair when the lady with the hair color comes in and says she is late and needs to get the coloring finished fast. I can see Lan is about to dump me again and jump to finish her. I finally speak: "No. I am late too! I am not going to wait another minute; you have to finish my haircut. " Lan sees that I mean business. She tells the other lady that she will be with her in a minute. I think it is a figure of speech... It is not. What happens next reminds me of Benihana - bits of hair fly up in the air, sharp objects swish around my ears with blazing speed, chop, chop, chop, cut, cut, cut, a-and Done! She does some trick with the little mirror, I don't see anything in the back, but the front looks pretty awful. Some kind of a furry animal is sitting on top of my head, a blob with no shape; it is shot and puffy, just bad. I look like a homeless lady. No offense to anyone. Lan pushes me toward the cashier's desk, quickly before I spend too much time in front of the mirror. I think she senses that no tip is coming her way. She whispers something to the cashier. They charge me MORE than the listed price. All in all a pretty awful experience. Oh and that job interview...You guessed it I didn't get the job. I looked pitiful; no amount of product could tame the mess. The hair will grow back eventually, but I am still suffering from a post haircut syndrome. read more

I LOVE this place!! It is the only place I go for a quality and affordable haircut. Kim and Lan (yes, how narcisstic of me to get my hair cut here!) have been cutting my hair for the past three years. At the advice of Kim, I chopped off 6 inches of hair last November. Despite my extreme hesitation, she reassured me that the cut would look good because of my face shape. Needless to say, I put my full trust in her hands and walked out a very satisfied lady! These ladies are the only ones that I trust to maintain my short 'do... even if it is just cutting an inch or two off. I'm a big big big fan of their other services..
