I am a regular and have had the upmost, fabulous experience here for years, except on September 17, 2025. BEWARE: DO NOT TAKE OFF YOUR JEWELRY or leave it at home! I requested for a French gel tip when the nail tech (I don't have her name) suggested, "take off your bracelet for a massage" It was a huge and costly mistake but at the time I assumed she was going to give a massage where my bracelet would get in the way. I found out later, taking it off was absolutely unnecessary. Instead, I received a short 1 minute lotion rub - which is absolutely fine but there was NO reason for the nail tech to ask me to remove it in the first place. Either way, I'm kicking myself in the butt for taking it off and losing out on my anniversary diamond tennis bracelet worth thousands. Let's just say, after my nails were done I didn't clasp the hook on properly and the bracelet dropped at the salon while I was paying/handing out tips for two nail techs for the mani and pedi. I called two days straight after, and they said it wasn't there. Tip for owner: unless absolutely necessary - your employees should not request for bracelets/jewelry to be taken off. Every single time I have come here, something has gone wrong. I am not a difficult customer, and I gave this place chance after chance, but this was absolutely my last time coming to Vibrant. They say they take appointments, but appointments clearly mean nothing here. Every time I have called ahead, they confirmed me, and every time I have walked in letting them know my name and appointment, they still have no clue what service I wanted, and then I wait 30+ minutes to be seen anyway. There is no point in even making an appointment. What pushed this visit over the edge was how unprofessional they were about a basic request. I specifically asked for a soak-off because I spent the past year not getting my nails done, trying to grow out my thin nails after repeated filing had damaged them over time. They refused to do it and told me soak-off "doesn't work." I explained that it does work if you file off the clear top layer first and then soak. Instead of listening, they responded with, "How do you know?" That alone was unbelievably rude and dismissive. I literally had to say "I've been doing my nails my whole life." I was not asking for anything unreasonable. I was asking for a standard removal method because I did not want my already thin nails to be filed down even more. They refused to do the service I asked for, acted argumentative when I tried to explain, and made the whole interaction so unprofessional that I ended up having to leave the salon without getting my nails done. I have left this place upset and honestly on the verge of tears more than once, and I should have stopped coming back a long time ago. I came here at a friend's recommendation and it lived up. Not as crowded as the nail salon down the street, however I had no problem calling the day before for a reservation for 2 people. It did get crowded as we were leaving. They offered me a hot tea which was lovely. They have a great array of colors. $70 for a regular pedi and a gel mani. The pedicure chairs were clean and comfy but not the most powerful massage. The nail techs were nice, quick, efficient and did a thorough job on the cuticles. A quick leg and hand massage was included, but nothing too crazy. Overall, a solid option! I was pretty distracted talking to my friend, but def would come again and see the other options. read more

I really wish I would like this place but sadly I looked at my pedicure today after getting them done yesterday and the guy that did them did not do a very good job. You can see in the pictures that the paint was not layered on correctly and not painted over my entire toe. This is pretty disappointing. I thought I could trust their work but you can clearly see that they can't fill in properly. The fact that they did this on multiple toes is very disappointing. I've been coming to Vibrant Nails and Lashes for about a year now, and it's become my go-to spot in Berkeley. I've tried a bunch of other salons around here and in Oakland, but I keep coming back because it's affordable, super clean, and the staff are always friendly/ accommodating and talented! I usually get almond Gel-X with a French tip and a design, and every time I've walked out happy with how they turned out. I've had a different tech almost every time, and they've all been consistent with quality and attention to detail. I'll admit I'm pretty picky when it comes to my nails. I pay attention to whether the Gel-X is placed straight, if there are any bubbles, how the shape looks, and how clean/even the French tips are. If something looks off, I'll ask them to fix it, and they've always been really kind and patient about making sure I leave satisfied. They also have a huge selection of colors to choose from. I've even brought in my own shades a few times because I'm particular like that, and it's never been a problem. One tip: definitely make an appointment, since they can get busy. If you're detail-oriented like me, I think you'll love it here! read more

The last time I went the manicurist rushed, got paint all over my cuticles, was rude and short when I was placing my hands in and out of the gel polish dryer, then didn't give me the sugar scrub on my arms, barely put lotion on my arms toward the end and then rudely asked if I wanted to have a hot towel or leave the lotion all over my arms? Then, was like, "Do you want to leave or let your toes dry?" Well, I dunno, I'd rather them be dry? Wtf? I paid, left disappointed. The young woman who did my pedicure was great, but the woman who did the manicure was terrible. She had a star tattoo on her arm and seemed young but had the worst attitude ever. With so many nail salons on College I'm just going to take my business elsewhere. Why do the bare minimum? And if you hate your job, leave it and find something better, don't make customers feel like they're in your way. read more

My GO TO in the Bay Area! I was never a big nails girlie because they never lasted when I'd get gel done at my local Happy Nails in SoCal, but I really wanted to feel polished during my last semester in college. After spending hours on Yelp and Reddit, I nailed down this spot as the salon that would redeem all salons in my eyes (and cuticles). I was able to take the 51B bus directly to the shop--it literally stops right at its doorstep. My appointment was scheduled for 2, but I showed up early just in case. The staff were super sweet and offered me drinks and tea, and my appointment with Kevin was right on time! At that first appointment, I got gel. I went on an impromptu 12 mile backpacking trip two days later and the nails SURVIVED! They stayed nice for three weeks even with my active lifestyle running around in the dirt and grime. I got them redone after those three weeks because my nails were starting to grow out, but the polish was still immaculate. A month later, I got my first set of acrylics for my graduation photos and ceremonies! They were almond French tips, and turned out so classy and durable. I was shocked how inexpensive and high quality the manicure / pedicure package was, especially considering that the acrylics are labor intensive. I miss living in the Bay Area and getting my nails done with Kevin, and will have to stop by when I visit next! read more

I've been getting my nails done for over 10 years, and this was hands down the worst experience I've ever had. For $80, I got nothing but a sloppy job. First off, my cuticles weren't even cut--apparently, they charge an extra $10 for that (but didn't bother to tell me until I complained). My thumb nail wasn't glued on properly, and they used almond-shaped Gel-X tips on all my other nails, except my thumbs, so the tech had to shape those himself. He completely butchered them. The tip and my nail didn't even align, and it looked ridiculous. On top of allll that my middle finger nail is slightly crooked. When I went back to have them fix it the glue and I quite about cuticle services, the front desk guy just shrugged and told me about the $10 up-charge for cutting cuticles. Why wasn't I told that from the start?! When I tried to tell the guy at the front desk about my poorly glued thumb nail, another customer walked up, and instead of finishing our conversation, he just abruptly stopped and helped them, leaving me standing there like I didn't matter. After the other customer paid, I showed him the messed-up thumb nail. He did re-glued it, trimmed cuticles on maybe 3 or 4 nails (not even all of them), slapped some oil on, and told me to wash my hands. When I came back, he had disappeared! No apology, no one came back to check on me, nothing. I waited for a few minutes, standing there; it was clear no one gave a damn, I just left. For $80, this place is an absolute joke. Terrible service, lazy techs, and zero customer care. Don't waste your money here--there are way better salons that actually care about doing a good job and treat customers with respect. read more

I came here with a friend so she could she could get mani-pedis for the first time. It was a great experience! Everyone working with us was super helpful and friendly. They carry a wide selection of polishes, even a holographic one that changes color in the light (top left in the photo) The leg scrubs and lotions they use smell so good. They gave us massages on our legs and hands as well. In addition, the chairs they have are massage chairs, so it was overall a very relaxing experience. On my nails, she was able to file them to the exact even shapes I wanted across all my nails! I chose kind of a sheer polish, so I did need to ask her to add another layer before the top coat. It was my first time here and they honored appointments, but were also willing to accommodate walk-ins depending on the service and party size. The staff is friendly and the salon itself is clean. They also offer water or tea during the service. Emma did a thorough job on my mani and pedi and will definitely be my new go to! There's a wide selection of polish colors as well. Street parking can be pretty tricky since they're right on College Ave, so plan accordingly. I didn't see a booking service online, but calling to schedule was a breeze. read more

This place is nice. It's located in a good area. When I first started coming here, Great. The service, the quality of my manicures/pedicures. Good. Gradually over the few times I've continued to go, the experience changed for me. The quality of my nail service started to get less and less complete, if I would ask a certain cut on my nails or certain steps to be done they would get dismissed, I shouldn't have to come home and refile or cut my own nails to the shape I want after paying. So as much as I would like to leave a 5 start I would have to leave it at a 2.5 Others may have great continuous experience at this location and with over all the staff. But the quality of the service towards my nails have just gotten less and less for me. I do thank them for the first great experiences. read more

I wouldn't recommend this place because the service isn't good, especially if you're a person of color. When I walked in I stood at the counter and not a single employee looked up. I had an appointment at 4pm so I was surprised they wouldn't acknowledge people walking in if they were expecting a customer. When a white woman walked in behind me the staff looked up immediately and asked if they could help her. I was surprised at the difference in response and concerned that the location would not be equitable to customers of different backgrounds Although my appointment was at 4pm I was asked to wait 10 minutes. At 4:15pm I asked if there was an update and I was told that the wait time would be another 5-10 minutes. Kevin told me I would need to wait until 4:30. It's currently 4:42 and I'm hopeful that they might honor my appointment in the next few minutes. If not I'll have to go on my vacation this Friday without my nails done. I would have a better experience if Kevin had been honest with me upfront about the wait time or if the salon called and said they were running behind. Unfortunately, they strung me along with different wait times and still expected a tip at the end of the nonsense. I don't think I'll be back, sadly. Although I waited quietly while Kevin said 10 minutes or 15 minutes, whenever I asked for an update Kevin seemed annoyed. I would strongly suggest you all do not come here. read more

I called in to see if they were available to take me in for a gel-x set 10 mins prior to coming in, and they were super accommodating. I also absolutely love being offered water or champagne from a salon, so that's a huge plus. Sunny helped me that day and he was so efficient and precise with my service, I was able to come back to the office with time to spare to stuff down my lunch! Beautiful space, great setting and superb service. With that say... They completely destroyed my nails. I'm not sure what's going with the trends where they do not put tips just place the nails directly on top of your natural nails. That process destroyed many layers of my nails and they are now so sensitive that I cannot even touch them. Along with that, my beautiful once healthy nails are not brittle. I wish they could have just done tips instead of saving time by doing the new process. Would I go back? Yes, I would. Knowing what I know, I would be more careful and advocate for myself instead of being silent. I don't live in Berkeley anymore, but if I do move back; I would be willing to give them another chance because the service was pretty good. read more

Update on first set: Several of the stones on the first set fell out, some within the first 3 days, but they fixed it for free each time. The third time I went to get replacements, I asked them to put the top coat over the stones. After that, most of them lasted 3 full weeks with the exception of a couple that fell off after 2-2.5 weeks. Second set: I came back after a little over 3 weeks because my nails grew out a lot, the polish was coming off, and one of my nails got a couple cracks on the nail bed (my fault when I was opening a cabinet). They fixed my nail with dip powder did a new set. The blue is super pretty! read more
