This review is specific to the pool, and family swim. Eisenhower should consider retraining their janitorial staff, or coming up with a specific cleaning regiment. I know Eisenhower has janitors, but I've never seen them do anything besides run a mop over the floor. To maintain a clean healthy place to swim, I would highly recommend the following * Clean the lockers (aerosol cleaner and wipe down) once a week. * Water vacuum the hot tub. There is sand and soot on the bottom of the hot tub that gets stirred up Everytime the jets are turned on. * Use clear silicon caulk to adhere the loose metal rings, around the shower heads, to the tile shower wall. * Clean the glass in the pool area, sauna, and locker room with Windex at least once a week (locker room should be done daily). * Pull the rubber mats out of the sauna and clean the sauna floor once a week. * Rub the cedar wood, in the sauna, down with teak oil, or similar natural protectant, yearly. * Use a natural bristle pool brush to scrub the walls of the pool. This will scrub off the algae and keep the pool water looking blue instead of greenish-blue. * Pressure wash, or buy a pool Zamboni and clean the pool deck nightly. Don't simply use a mop... This just pushes the bacteria around. The reason I'm going through the effort to write all of this is because I like Eisenhower. Unfortunately, year over year, I'm watching the facility deteriorate. Without regular maintenance, I'm not sure how much longer this community resource will be in operation. Lastly, I would highly recommend extending family swim nights from one night a week to three nights a week. People love family swim, and I very seldom ever see anyone swimming laps on other evenings. Yearly passes are pretty expensive, so family swim night is a great, inexpensive, way for parents to get their kids out of the house; and I am sure it is a great source of revenue for the Park District. Who doesn't like making money?! It's a win win for families and the park district. read more

I recently encountered a problem when trying to sign my daughter up for swim lessons. The receptionist is so rude and will talk over you if you have any questions. We last took swim lessons at lan oak in 2019. Due to swim classes being in high demand we sometimes have to find other places to take them on top of that the pandemic shut most classes down. I was told that my daughter would have to start from the class she last attended with them (which was preschool... she'll be 7yrs old in 2months) When I asked if they would assess/test her skills to find the proper class I was rudely told "no" and when I asked if I could call the swim/aquatics supervisor to confirm I was told "THIS IS THE CALL"... idk if this is some sad attempt to get more money out of people by putting a child that has pool experience in a beginners class or if they're too lazy to test the kids. Whatever the case the receptionist is out of line and needs to learn how to interact/communicate with customers. read more

Lan-Oak Eisenhower is slimy and desperate for money! Signed up my child for play school which I unarguably now regret. Provided a deposit and only paid for the first month. If you didn't know Lester Crawl will test and accept your child free of charge if they qualify for their state granted program. The child typically has to show signs of delay with no guarantee of being accepted as my other children once tested and were not accepted. It's a process. Two weeks prior to the end of our paid month, Eisenhower staff barred my child entry because we did not provide a voided check and signed a signature to the policies to continue with the program for the following month. Leading up to this, it was communicated to staff the possibility of being accepted to another school. They reassured us it wouldn't be an issue. We provided the check not knowing if we were going to continue going to Eisenhower. They informed us not to worry, simply notify the superintendent. Which is exactly what we tried doing which later became a debacle after we were accepted to the school that can address our child's needs with speech therapy. Things did not end well as this heartless superintendent refused to make herself available by person or phone. She threatened us with collections via e-mail basically holding our 3 year old hostage for another 9 months if we dropped out of the program. Emailed all 5 board members to intervene, none replied. I decided not to blast Eisenhower on social media for the last 2 months waiting to see her next motives. Well, I just received a collection notice today for 2k the full amount of 9 months plus fees obligated by a contract. The contract aka signature that we would read the policy that states "can be changed at any time" and strangely also says "not a contract" has the original monthly authorization payment form. We never provided the signature until our child was refused entry by orders of the superintendent. That should have been an indicator of red flags but staff once again made it seem it wouldn't be a big deal. They probably knew it was a trap. We stopped going a week early of the already paid first month and they decided not to take out any monthly payments out of our account. We will never give them a dime or business ever again. We have been very pleased with the classes and programs that the park district has to offer. There are also team sports, special events, and the usual things you would expect from a park district. In addition, the park district office hosts a decent sized gym with monthly fee that can be paid to utilize their facilities. It's relatively cheap compared to a brand name gym, but it has a nice pool, a decent amount of machines, free weights, etc. They also have a really nice preschool they call "playskool". I have been very pleased with our park district's offerings. It isn't as fancy as suburbs with more money, but there are still lots of classes and activities to choose from. I would highly recommend trying a class and checking it out! read more

This park district summer camp was such a disappointment. There are 2 sessions and for each one for one child it's a $415 for residents. I had to pack a lunch everyday. In the beginning they didn't have a calendar ready to tell you the events that they were going to do. When I did get it was only for one week and I didn't get nothing else after that. I think the only good thing was going to the pool once a week. My disappointment was that for $415 my daughter didn't go on any field trips they had what they call "in house field trip" a magic show. The older kids had field trips all the time. My question is what does $415 go towards? They did finally say a trip was planned the last week of the session for bowling but before that happened a kid tested positive for COVID no notice was sent out. They never said anything about kids wearing mask until after the fact and my daughter caught it. So I feel that this summer camp wasn't worth the money. I have rented space there for children with disabilities to do things and this time I'm being denied rental space and being accused of running a business on there property and that not the case I rent a room cause it gives the kids more space to do things and I'm currently working on a fashion show for inclusion. My family uses the fitness center and Playskool (Preschool) and we have signed up for several different classes and events through Lan Oak for the last few years. We LOVE everything about it. The prices and quality are great. The preschool follows a curriculum and my son knows how to write all his letters, recite the pledge, recognize the difficult shapes (ex: hexagon) and is picking up great social skills even though kindergarten is a year and a half away! Ms. Sheila and Miss Care are amazing teachers and I feel totally at ease leaving my son with them. The Park District offers lots of other classes, like gymnastics and Mommy & Me programs, which we have thoroughly enjoyed. They have a good amount of machines in the fitness center (though not as many as your typical dedicated fitness center), but the prices are great and I've never had to wait to use a machine. They also offer massages and have a sauna, but I've never used either one. I think the Lan-Oak Park District is one of the best in the area! read more
