We didn't want to leave this review. In October, we reached out to Lan with an upholstery project: two small chairs, and we had the fabric to recover them. He was very responsive, and was willing to work with us even though we wouldn't be purchasing fabric from him. We dropped the chairs off in mid-Nov, paid a deposit. He said he could have the chairs ready by the second week of December, even though he had other projects ahead of ours, and was planning to move his shop. A week before Christmas, we reached out to him- no response. When we still hadn't heard from him a couple weeks into January, we began to worry. Lan works on his own, and we were genuinely concerned he was unwell. By the end of January, we had: physically visited his shop, left voicemails and multiple texts, emailed his business address, and mailed a physical letter to his home address (the address for his business on the payment app). It wasn't until we finally contested the deposit on the payment app that he reached out to us. He was very apologetic and said he had health issues, including a hospitalization over Christmas, and was just getting caught up. He promised the chairs in two weeks. We told him that was fine, and after three weeks checked in. He told us they would be ready for pickup the next week. We asked to schedule a time- no response. Now, it is Apr 26 and we haven't heard from him in over a month. Though the payment app refunded our deposit, we are out two armchairs and over 9 yards of upholstery fabric. We are leaving this review in the hopes no one else has a similar experience. read more

Service and quality! I had to have a door panel on my truck reupholstered. When I brought the truck in, Lannie, the owner, said that he could take the fellow who does vehicle work off what he was working on so the job could be done within a couple of hours. This worked out well for us because we live an hour away from Spokane. Removing the door panels was a lot more difficult than expected but he got it done. When we returned a couple of hours later, the job was done and done well! He had the perfect fabric in stock. Remounting the door panel with the reupholstered section was a lot easier than removing it. I am extremely pleased. The price was not cheap but it was reasonable. Lab did a beautiful job making 4 cushions for my little camper. He was even able to get them finished sooner than promised when I told him that I was planning on taking the camper on a trip. I bought 7 yards of fabric at the annual Pendleton Woolen Mills fabric sale (every September all fabric is 30% off at the factory store in Portland--an amazing deal!). Wow! What a great find. We've use Lan's for two recent jobs. The first was to reconfigure four floor pillows we had had made from some Japanese textiles into smaller bench cushions. Lan did a great job, salvaging and showing off the original textiles while cutting the pillows down in size and increasing their loft. We then had Lan reupholster two swivel barrel chairs. Because Lan buys up odd-lots of fabric, he can provide fabric from his own inventory much less expensively than from the commercial catalogs he also offers. We ended up with a great price for a superb job in just the color we wanted. Can't recommend highly enough! read more

I cannot recommend this shop highly enough! I found Lan's after having a horrible upholstery experience in Salem, involving my 92 year old mother's chairs. The Salem shop had her chairs for over a year and kept extending the finish date when I finally got them back only one chair was complete. Lannie Keihn does shoddy work, regardless of years of experience, website, & reviews. I had previously purchased fabric and a cushion, so he quoted $275 and 2 weeks to complete my chair. For the 2 months he held my chair, he immediately stripped it (smart move), then refused to let me see it & would ignore my calls for progress updates when he was beyond the due date. He also did not initially inform me that he was in the process of moving his business, so he was preoccupied with other priorities. He admitted to not starting my chair until 2 days before it was "complete." I was mortified to see the end result; but if I didn't give him the $275 cash, he wasn't going to release it: mismatched corners/finishes, exposed staples & frame, fabric dimpling, you can feel the frame in some areas (pics have been uploaded to Yelp). There's over 3 yards of fabric leftover, so the work doesn't make sense. In hindsight, I would have paid $300 more to have it done correctly by a professional the first time. I'm now going to have to pay another upholsterer to fix this crappy work. Lann's Upholstery has moved from The Shop People Warehouse and is now located on 3200 N. Lombard. read more

Lanny recently reupholstered a set of 6, 3rd generation Danish teak dining chairs for us. We inherited these chairs from my wife's grandfather. It was very important to us that we return these chairs to their previous glory. We considered doing the job ourselves but became quickly frustrated and decided we needed a pro.
