In just a few days the work crew had cleared out the jungle, laid down beautiful turf, removed 3/4 of the deck and built beautiful new stairs, and planted the trees! It's like adding 700sqft of useable space to our home. Working with Alvaro and Anna was a breeze. The whole process was trouble free. Each of the landscapers who worked on the job was professional, hardworking, and did a beautiful job. I will recommend Blue Cypress to anyone needing a job done. Owen and his designer came over and looked at the property then gave us a quote about a week later. The quote was very hard to read as it had quite a bit of legal jargon. I emailed the designer and I said I am having trouble reading this it looks like it was written by your lawyers. Oh my how these two flipped out. They were on a group email and did not know it. The designer told Owen what we said and Owen responded to him by saying "lawyers, WTF this guy is a dumb ass, I knew they couldn't afford me to begin with." Who's the dumb ass now. Any way we fired them and got a terrific landscaper who we are absolutely happy with.

We obtained other bids, but ultimately selected Owen because of how personable, professional, and knowledgeable he was. We couldn't have been happier with the end result. The ten-week project included a concrete patio, retaining walls and steps, irrigation, drainage, lighting, fencing, pergola assembly, gas and electrical lines, plants, ground cover (gravel and mulch), and fire table and hot tub installation. Owen's crew was skilled, friendly and hard-working. His foremen Al and Nestor were amazing to work with and did an outstanding job leading the project. Owen was closely involved every step of the way. He provided numerous suggestions that either weren't in the original plan from the landscape design company or were an improvement to the original plan. This was one of the biggest reasons we're glad we worked with Mitchell Landscapes - Owen's combination of strong design and practical sense resulted in a landscape that far surpassed the original plan. Owen was also honest, transparent, and fully committed throughout the project. Even after our project was completed, Owen and his crew came back several times to check plants and irrigation, as well as to unload and carry a 600 lb fire table into our backyard. After the outstanding experience we had working with Mitchell Landscapes, we will definitely use them for all of our future landscaping projects.

They finally sent the proposal at the beginning of September with apologies. So four months later I received a proposal that was 20% higher than the next highest. I think they were pricing themselves out of a project they didn't want to do. They could have just told me so in June. Today, with a different contractor we started the work of replacing the 2,500 SF driveway plus we are adding a patio and replacing our 50 foot public sidewalk and street curb for less than the total from Sonoma-Marin provided for just the driveway. I think Sonoma-Marin needs to treat ALL potential customers with the same respect they treat customers with bigger projects.

One thing that really stood out is that they noticed our old driveway had the wrong slope and that the approach up to the front porch was too steep. They corrected the driveway so it now has a proper slope toward the road and added a new step for us -- at no additional cost. That was not something we asked for, but something they caught. Everything was done exactly on schedule and exactly at the agreed price. No surprises. They also worked smoothly with another contractor we had on site at the same time. Not only was Novara the most knowledgeable, they were also the most professional. Impressing me with their due diligence and knowledge of everything about both construction and landscaping. They were the only company who even mentioned laying gopher wire and knew about Ditra membranes. Seeing Stephen Garcia on social media cinched it for me. He knew his stuff. This was a company that I could tell would care as much as I did. I came to them with a full design in mind. Lots of landscapers don't love that because they want to do their own thing or because clients don't understand engineering, permits, etc. That said, Novara not only brought my own vision to life but they improved upon it with their experience and passion. I had nothing in my yard but a lot of dirt. Now I have a stunning porcelain paver landing with lighting, a patio and a pergola, DG, irrigation, lighting and a stunning plant design that is flourishing! There were a few…read morethings we were looking for when choosing a contractor: reasonable pricing, professionalism, competency, and great communication. Drainage was our biggest concern as there's a slope going to the house. Addressing the engineering - not just aesthetics - gave us comfort that this company knows what they're doing. Quote- found them on Yelp, read the reviews, asked for a quote through Yelp projects. They offered next day coordination to view the project. Steven was pleasant and professional. Understood our drainage concerns. The emailed quote came the following day, and it had every detail requested. This punctuality and attention to detail already says a lot to me so we hired them. The job- Started on schedule and the team went above and beyond! We requested the excavated soil to be set aside so we could use it on another part of our property - they so kindly placed the soil in the areas we needed. We saw the engineering of the small gradation for water drainage. The channel drain and French drain were installed for longevity. The 1000+ sqft of pavers were meticulously arranged by hand to include border pavers. Timeframe- this massive job was scheduled for 5 days but extended into 10 days due to the manufacture shorting the border paver count. Clean up- the team did well to smooth out the rest of the excavated soil, gave us as much left over rock and pavers as we wanted and even relocated it to our convenience. Lastly, they swept the patio for immediate use and took any remaining debris. We very much appreciated Steven and the Novara crew for the long days and great work! We love that this a local family business doing great work. The patio looks great and it has us excited to extend our living space!
