This location can be pretty busy on the weekends but it's the perfect spot for some work and a coffee on a weekday. This place is very cute, well priced, and the staff is super friendly. No wonder every seat in the cafe was taken on this beautiful Saturday morning! My wife and I had a vanilla latte, which was great, and a dirty chai. I didn't clarify whether the chai was spiced or not before ordering it, which was totally my mistake. It ended up being spiced chai, which I'm not such a fan of. This is not to say you might not like it, just not my fave. I decided to walk around and noticed the coffee shop in the corner of a building. I decided to check it out to grab a hot drink as it was a cold day. First impression, it's a pretty good size. Nice furniture and minimalistic decor. There's a comfy sofa to relax on. The ambiance is nice and felt very comfortable. My visit here was year Jan 2020 pre-pandemic time. I ordered the chai tea $3.60 and almond croissant (don't recall the price). They both were delicious. I forgot to take a picture of the croissant (was a little hungry LOL!) When I need to escape the hustle and bustle of Seattle coffee shops I come here to relax. I went here countless times while living in Tacoma and I never had a bad experience. The staff is consistently friendly, the coffee is solid, and there are some tasty food options. They're a micro-roaster so they offer some retail in-house roasts that range from $16-$21 for 12oz (love to see affordable quality coffee). This time around I ordered their Los Dos Socios Guatemala on espresso which was very well balanced and the sausage egg breakfast sandwich which was neither dry nor bland. The seating options were mostly full since people have gone back to school and need a place to study, and even though there are a ton of seats I wish there were more comfy couches to relax on. Overall, I highly recommend this spot if ur craving good coffee, good food, or just need a place to get some work done. read more

This coffee shop is excellent for your macchiato fix. Slightly less bitter style/coffee than other legitimate coffee shops, but what the drink lacks in espresso punch it makes up for with complex smooth flavor. Nutty chocolaty flavors in their espresso. (Perhaps they could go a little lighter on the milk) What pushed this over the top to 5 stars is the friendly barista, $1 cheaper than other hipster joints, more than just pastries available , AND sparkling water for your macchiato that is actually carbonated, and not from last Monday's jug. If you're looking for espresso with all the bells and whistles, this is your place. read more

Heading down from Seattle one afternoon to beat the traffic, this was just the kind of place I was looking to spend a few hours doing work before dinner with friends. Lander was a little more off the beaten path and I stumbled onto when the shop I had researched was packed to the gills. I am glad that was the case, because this was more my vibe: spacious modern interior design with big windows, lots of seating for setting up your solo work or hanging with a friend. The barista was super sweet and friendly, they have a succinct drink menu and I was able to get a decaf Americano to sip into the late afternoon. By the time I arrived, most of the food was gone, but what they had looked tasty. The only thing that could have made it even better was if they were open until 6PM instead of 5PM to bridge into the evening. But 5PM is still great, and later than a lot of the places I frequent up north. I will definitely visit again when in Tacoma! read more

My husband and I went with our son during a busy part of today, a Sunday afternoon. The beautiful lady who took our order was also very kind. They were out of many items that time of day, but we were able to get some good eats and drinks. The place was packed, but it didn't feel busy. We shared a table with some people who didn't seem to mind, which was cool. There was a mix of folks, some working on school stuff, others planning the rest of their day. We discussed bike riding and pattern-making. My son ran to get water three times. The menu is what you may have come to expect from a Tacoma coffee shop, but there were more alternative drink options for milk and some cool-looking cookie bite options. The place looks like a large living/family room, and the music was nice. It's a great place to go and hide from your responsibilities, like we tried to do before heading to Safeway. I Am a frequent weekly customer at Lander, i have all but amazing experiences, customer service has been great, atmosphere is so comforting, and the coffee is always yummy. A few days ago i came in and brought a friend to show off my new favorite coffee shop to study and do work at. But to my unpleasant surprise you are allowed to bring in a food or drink item from another business, i was not aware of this rule and i was kinda told rudely that i was lucky to not be getting kicked out because of it. And i think the only reason i didn't was because I ordered a coffee for here which comes in a mug. So since i'm not a problematic customer and i would love to keep coming here, i kindly took my edible item from another store out to my car and came back and went on with my visit, did school, drank the coffee, and left after 20 minutes because for the first time I did not feel comfortable. I love this shop and want to continue being a regular customer, but if a business is going to have such a rule then maybe they should post a sign up at the door to make unaware customers like me's life a little more easier, and to make the business happy. read more

There is a distinct flavor that I can't quite describe. It stands out compared to nearby competitors like Olympia and Bluebeard. Must come back for further tastings. Enjoyable brew. Coffee is worth purchasing and drinking, multiple times. Miscellaneous: Studying here might be a good idea. Sofa-like seating is a nice touch. High ceiling. Large windows. Conclusion: Lander is Dope. Too my knowledge the third incarnation of a coffee shop in this space. Each coffee shop that was here definitely had it's own unique recipes and vibe! Lander Coffee Roasters is the new tenant at this address and it provides a more sleeker feel before which is refreshing! I have been here twice now and have gotten their version of the vanilla latte which is a favorite coffee drink of mine. Lander's version of the drink is a success and I enjoyed it very much! The pastries they sell are very good. A favorite I like here is the almond croissant! The service here is always friendly and prompt and I can see myself coming here quite a bit on the handful of rotating coffee shops I like to frequent in town! read more

This place has one of my favorite interiors of the Tacoma coffee scene. It is simultaneously bright and cozy. Plenty of parking nearby. Baristas are quick to help and do it with a smile. Friendly people - great place to sit and work or meet with a friend. And they have a great little play area for kids. Wish they roasted their own coffee, but they do use local beans. Also I ordered a chai and it was trash. Chai can be hit and miss and this was a definite miss. My husband's coffee was pretty good. I will be back - hopefully as they settle into their space, the drinks improve a bit. read more
