Oops! Thought I posted this months ago! Here goes...(from August 2020) Hubby and I agree the room is decent for what is included. Do not expect a modern hotel with all the perks! It is a good option to reduce travel time (& save gas) to/from NTC. We needed this break after driving across country. It's ideal if you're new to here and want to learn about the area. For under $100 a night, this is the best, safest place to stay for our family! If you're looking for 4- or 5-star comparable amenities, then go to a nearby city that has 4-star and 5-star hotels! This will disappoint you. We saw other hotels 45 min. away, but they all cost more. After reading reviews of how others' experiences were so poor, I wanted to share. Maybe it's just me being quite forgiving these days, but we all need to be during an unpredictable world pandemic! I'm satisfied with the condition of our room. It is obviously an older hotel and is undergoing some improvements (slowly). It's a small hotel, so easy to navigate. Took me a day to learn which elevator to take. Even if you make a wrong turn, keep going and you'll end up right where you started! It's a big square. The stairs are marked with Exit signs, but it's much safer taking the elevator with my toddler and heavy luggage! I was happy with the cleanliness of the room and pleasantly surprised by the bathroom. The clean shower had good water pressure and a tub that drains well! I hate standing in bath water! I've stayed at nicer hotels with clogged drains! Ick! The shiny tiles go from the tub all the way up to the ceiling with white grout lines. Looked new or just kept super clean. Cleanest bathroom tiles and the whitest grout in a hotel that I have ever seen! [I've traveled to many states (25+) and countries (10+) staying in many hotels of varying star levels (2 to 5)!!] No tears/stains on the shower curtain. The tile floors and grout were clean also. Just redone maybe? No dust bunnies under the bathroom counter. Light fixtures looked new. The carpet is hotel carpet, but looked clean and was dry. I hate stepping on wet carpet (happened at a "nicer" hotel at Barstow Outlets)! So gross. Here is the part that took stars away: 1) The clean kitchen had a couple loose cupboard doors. It was awkward requiring both hands to Jenga them shut. Mini fridge is not large enough for a whole family staying a week, but was sufficient for basics (like milk, juice) & for freezer packs plus a few frozen dinners. 2) No stove, no cook plate, no toaster, etc. so, no cooking in this "kitchen". Microwave oven only. Ugh. With the limited restaurant options right now, this was inconvenient! We like cooking or grilling out and missed that with our stay here. We thought the suite with kitchen meant a full kitchen. Nope! No plates, no pots or pans, but a sponge and dish soap was provided. That was useful for my baby's sippy cups. The coffeemaker is a mini size with the plastic pullout drawer. It worked in a pinch! Better than that tiny in-room coffee maker is the free coffee available 24/7 in the lobby. The FCFS continental breakfast each morning was a good surprise. (Add back 1/2 star for that!) Most hotels we stayed this past week, even if free breakfast was in the room description, did not offer any food at all! Here, we had a choice of pastries (the mini muffins were yummy), bread & bagels, fresh fruit, cereals, yogurt, boiled eggs, and choice of apple & orange juice plus coffee and herbal or black tea bags. My little one loves the mini blueberry muffins - so that's a WIN!! Abundant free fresh fruit for the taking (bananas, apples, oranges) during our last week's stay! Just need to wear your mask, keep a distance from others, and clean your hands! Masks and hand-sanitizer are available. The suite (3rd floor) has a sofa with pullout bed. Everything looked clean despite being a little dated. I was not expecting much, so I was not too disappointed. No USB plug-ins for charging phones or any electronics. Walls had regular outlets and appeared newly painted. Everything was in great working condition, especially the old air units. One in each room, so we stayed comfortably cool for the entire stay! It's been 100+ for most of August! Desert heat is rough. So, I will give this place an 3.5 review because I am happy to be well and rested! The king bed is big and comfy. The staff was friendly and helpful. Plus, the courtyard offers a safe and semi-shaded play area for my little guy - a wooden playground to climb up and go down the slides plus a turf area (fake grass) along the building with benches to sit in the shade. However, it was closed the last few days we stayed. There is a BBQ grill area in the middle also with two grills. I took our little guy out there every morning for 20-30 min. before it hit 100! read more

Want to get your stuff stolen by the cleaning ladies? Perhaps sleep in a bed with dirty sheets next to a room full of screaming kids? Then this hotel is for you! What a dump! Not only is this place over priced and always at full capacity, but the room service people will ROB YOU while you are gone! My watch was stolen while I was out of the room at work! The best amenity of this hotel is the fact that every damned dryer in the place is broken, so you will have to go to a local laundramat to get any of your clothes dry. Oh and yes, the washers are always being used so expect to wait at least 2 hours for one to open up - this means hanging out in the laundry room like a stupid private in basic training while you waste away waiting for a free machine. Oh also there are two elevators for the whole hotel in the most awkwardly placed location and one is always broken. They are on opposite sides of the hotel, so if you happen to get to the broken one....well hey, now you must continue to the complete opposite end of the hotel - at least you will get a workout in while staying in this dump. A real architectural mastermind designed this place. I cannot imagine how the hell no one has done anything to improve Ft. Irwin in the decades it has been here - no wonder this place is despised by everyone in the military - The facilities are under staffed, decrepid, unkempt and the people that work here are rude. I think a congressional investigation into Ft. Irwin should occur as the quality of living here is worse than that of a deployment to any middle eastern hell hole. So like any other military based "hotels" it's a bit outdated. I can tell that they tried to spruce up the place but it still lacks. The rooms comes with a decent size mini fridge with a little freezer which is nice to keep snacks drinks inside. They have a microwave and a mini coffee/hot water maker. Rooms come with iron and iron board and the light fixtures have a place to plug in your charger for your phone/laptop. Going based on previous reviews I had to check the sheets and it was clean. I did a "white glove" sweep with the whole room... not bad.... only issue that there was accumulated dust in fire alarm and smoke detector. Other than that the room was kept clean. Me being extra I used several wipes just to make sure. There's a continental breakfast in the morning. I haven't had their breakfast yet but will definitely update when I do. So far the room is okay. It's nothing fancy and for the price I don't feel it was worth the price but you do feel more secure being on a military base. Will update. read more

The Landmark is okay for what it is. The rooms are a bit dated and they don't come to clean the rooms often. I stayed here for 10 days while waiting for temporary housing. They allowed my dog without issue. They served breakfast in the morning. Customer service was generally good as well. I would recommend--however it is kind of your only choice unless you want to stay in Barstow or Victorville (45 min to an hour away) read more

3.5 stars. The quality is actually 3 but this really is the only option at Fort Irwin. I was initially really hard on this place but for what it's the only hotel on this base and it provides a decent comfortable stay for a family visiting Soldiers, Soldiers and families waiting for housing or Soldiers visiting on official government business. The nearest hotels off base are over 40 miles away in Barstow. Standard amenities with a coffee pot and requisite ersatz (ooh a GRE word) cream and sugar, craftily folded hand yield, shampoo, conditioner, soap, iron, ironing board and an open hangar. The television is a little 30 incher. I initially thought "oh cool! They have a desk top computer here, but, no, that was the small little flat screen TV I was looking at. A nice view of the asphalt roads and concrete courtyard in a bleak base in the middle of the sprawling high desert. You'll even see an emaciated (another GRE word. I'm awesome) coyote walk by while you're jogging. The hotel is walking distance from the 24 Hour Shoppette for all your basic needs: beer, wine, liquor, calzones, hot dogs, cigarettes, e cigarettes, cigars, dip, muscle magazines--yeah, basic essentials. Down the street is the Town Center with Subways, Pizza Hut, Starbucks and Game Zone. Keep walking and you'll hit the itty bitty park which is really just a small pretty space for dogs to poop. If you keep walking, you'll see nothing but the bleak, out dated Army structures where great, amazing things are happening inside. Great and amazing things. Don't be fooled by the 30 Soldiers walking around in the parking lots picking up cigarette butts. There's a track nearby to go running and other shopping needs (PX, Commisary) are just a short drive as well as the gym. This hotel truly is a landmark because it's the only place to get a room. It's either here or walking into the desert as it calls to you. I can't seem to shake the sense of stale motel-esque musk in here. Note: Brad Pitt and Shia Lebouf (narcissist) came to Fort Irwin to receive two weeks of tactical training for World War Z II, which I'm sure made them absolute spartan special forces seal team delta ranger ninjas. Working construction here on the Fort. Been here for 5 weeks, different room each week. 3 of the weeks the A/C in the room was not functioning right and didn't keep up with the demand...also the A/C in the lobby and hallways has not worked in a couple weeks now so in the morning when you want to have coffee at the breakfast area you actually start sweating before you take your first drink. The WiFi in the rooms is inconsistent and we had trouble with it 2 out of the 5 weeks I've stayed here....it is so weak that you cannot play short videos on your tablet etc because they won't download quick enough. Our troops who get stuck here, sometimes with their families, deserve better.... read more

GROSS! This place deserves zero stars and to be shut down. What an absolute dive. And what a disgrace that this is the only option for US servicemen and their families! After initially checking into our room, we were overwhelmed to the point of illness by the overpowering air freshener. It smelled like an industrial freshener was dumped on the floor, which was sopping wet. We were moved to a 'suite' and I use the term very lightly. The sofa in the suite had massive rips on the seat cushions and giant sticky stains. EW! The bed was unbearably uncomfortable with springs sticking out. My husband ended up sleeping on the floor. Although the 'suite' had a kitchette, it was completely bare with no cups, coffee mugs, utensils, plates, NOTHING. This place was run down and disgusting. I'd recommend sleeping in your car before EVER staying here! read more

Stayed there for two weeks with one kid and two kids awaiting on base housing. Pretty good breakfast selection if you get down there right as they serve it at 6am, otherwise you're better off going to Subway or Starbucks. Cleaning crew will only come during working hours (8-4), and when in there your animals has to be in cage, which is highly inconvenient if you're a single parent working fulltime. For being a pet friendly hotel I expected them to be more flexible. I got a bit of attitude when I told them I wasn't willing to lock up my cats in small airline carriers for 8h/day. I ended up taking my dirty towels and linen down to the front desk to get new stuff and made our beds myself. read more

I give the staff 5 stars but the hotel itself lacks many amenities you would expect to find from the average hotel. No Conference room: This was a shocker to observe the number of senior Army officers and civilians required to stay at the Landmark Inn without the conference room capability. No color printer capability: Again, to conduct business during your stay at the Landmark Inn will be without a color printer. No VTC capability: Let's first address the conference room and do the right thing Army, add the color printer and VTC. Smoking Area: No standardization area for smokers to enjoy both drinking and cigars without forming out front of hotel. Dog Area: Gravel rock with some plastic bags is not much of a dog area. Let's add a small fenced in play area for them too. Coffee machine: This may sound trivia but let's upgrade the coffee machine not only quality but size to support more quests. Morale is an important factor on this subject. No on post shuttle for newcomers without transportation. Again, to rely only on sponsorship is a mistake on this matter. It goes back to morale and taking care of our Army families. Child play area: The location needs to be review for possible relocation inside and out of the bad weather. The Landmark Inn has a lot of potential to make your Fort Irwin stay a lot better and affect the morale of Army newcomers and guest. It will take the garrison commander to get involved. The nearest motel room is 40+ miles away, when you are here for work and don't feel like driving back and forth every day this is the only place for you. The lack of options and the fact that lodging is now privatized means they can get away with the bare minimum. The wifi was slow if it was working, the wireless nodes were going down at times, my 3G aircard was faster than the wifi at times and more stable. The linens and towels could use an update, the continental breakfast was very bare bone. PCSing rate is still $63 for a double or $69 for a suite (living room area where the couch folds out to an extra bed). No breakfast or in room cooking facilities unless you're crass enough to count a microwave (use one of the two dining facilities if you're living long term--more on that below). Rooms are on post which is their biggest benefit. As of 1 May 2011, pets are no longer allowed in the Landmark!! They have a local kennel (SGT Fuzzbuddy's) where dogs / cats can be boarded. This kennel is dog centric but my spouse did check out what they had for cats and it was not nearly as bad as we imagined (penned up next to dogs, etc). DFACs: long term the way to go unless you want your family eating fast food the entire time (Landmark doesn't allow crockpots or burners in it). DFACs accept all people here and are not the normal in that all food is sold ala carte. Sounds like a bad deal...but it isn't as I normally feed a family of three for $5 to $8. Seriously. I still want my house and the cooking therein, but it is the best alternative until we move in our home. read more

Stayed 10 days and didn't have any problem here at all. Staff super friendly. A few things did kinda get me though. One was our service would literally come at like 5pm everyday which was odd for it to be so late in the day and second the suites didn't have a kitchen in it so staying 10 days there we had to eat out. Note the elevator hasn't been inspected in over 2 years and the permit expired in January sooooo take that for what it's worth. My brother, his wife and myself were sharing a room and we are all in the military just in town for my brothers basketball game. She didn't want to give me an extra room key even though my name was on the reservation, I don't remember her name at all because I forgot at that very moment, All I know was that she was young and obese. The crazy thing was is that she called the mps on me acting like she didn't know who I was when i had a 30 min conversation with her early about the bar around the corner even though we never went too also we introduced ourselves to each other as well so I didn't understand how and why she switched up on me like that. I definitely won't be coming back here hopefully and I don't recommend anyone staying here as long as she's here or if any employees aren't paying attention to the people they come in contact with. I will predicate this by saying, I feel railroaded into having to stay in this hotel due to proximity of the nearest option. I have spent more time in hotels than I care to count over the last 12 years and between Army Lodging and Air Force Inns, the move towards privatization has been good for the Army. IGH hotels have made San Antonio pretty amazing. The Landmark Inn is cheaply furnished and poorly run. We recently stayed in conjunction with a PCS move, what I suspect to be a large amount of their business (as well as contractor TDY for training rotations). ~Firstly, there are 2 baggage carts at the entrance, but no automatic doors. Trying to move bags, much less a wheelchair or stroller is a pain. UNFRIENDLY TO WOUNDED WARRIORS! NOT ADA compliant or user friendly since every traveler has bags. ~Secondly, the pet policy criminalized people without cause. $25 PER NIGHT, plus an inspection of the room upon departure which only made me feel more criminal as i was not even allowed to conduct the inspection WITH staff due to "policy." This was after my pure bred, fully trained and certified animal was only in the hotel for 12 hours and had been boarded days before check-out. All the hotels, civilian and otherwise often charge a nominal nightly fee and then a pet deposit (usually a set fee around 30-50 for duration of a stay or a few dollars a night), but $25 per day is excessive. It seems even more criminal and questionable when informed you cannot keep you pet in the hotel unless the privately run kennel down the street ($23 per day) is full. I dont know if they are in bed together but it seems like they are taking advantage of their position and location. They require a $2500 damage agreement be signed for your pet for any and all damage, and won't clean the room daily if you have a pet, yet included is the entitled ability to check your room for damage at any and all times. They know the pets leave for the boarding facility the next morning (the only pets we saw were those who checked in after 5pm and the next morning boarded their pet) yet they continued to not service our room regularly and won't do the final pet check until you check out. ~Furnishings were NASTY, popped seams in the couch, stains and a smell of smokers even though they also have a sign for massive charges if they 'suspect' you of smoking in the room. We were informed that the bedding for our pullout was "in the tv stand", after we were unable to locate any. It was nearly impossible to tell how old they were, but they were NOT clean or recently provided, but wadded up in a drawer. We requested new sheets as a result. We also had to request adequate towels even though they knew how many the room was booked for. What was provided was not enough for each member of our family and they were not folded the same or stacked straight...making us question the cleanliness. ~Breakfast was the reasonable high point, there were hot and cold options, better than some. Bagels, muffins, yogurt, waffles, boiled eggs and juices. Sadly it was served in the main hallway where everyone is trying to walk. ~The staff was only half knowledgeable. When we checked in, the woman couldn't answer even basic questions and asked for our credit card and ID and began to charge us without so much as discussing the fees and totals. They were not welcoming and/or helpful about our arrival. As the first faces PCS family and guests to Fort Irwin encounter, it was a sad representation. It really comes down to the fact that this is the only show in town unless you have a prius and are willing to spend 2+hours daily driving in and out of Barstow or further. Like many of the facilities, it is the only option and thus they cut corners and courtesy and feel free to charge you for it because they know once you arrive you will have to pay. read more

We had to stay here for a month and it was a pretty good stay. The PCS rate is about $63 per night which is too much when you have to stay for long since your BAH wont cover it. I really wish they calculated your price based on what the military gives you for housing since you don't really have a choice. They have breakfast that includes, hard boiled eggs, fresh waffles, toast, muffins, cereal, fruit, yogurt & cottage cheese. Housekeeping is great and everyone is very friendly. They allow pets if the kennel is booked but it is $20 per night per pet which is very expensive if you have more than one pet. The kennel is cheaper. There is no pool or workout facility but the post is so small that you can drive just a couple of minutes to one. There is no funky smell and everything is clean. They have a small playground outside for kids too. A small stove would have made it great. read more

Stayed at Landmark Inn for 9 days. Next place to get a room is about 40 miles away. Decent hotel but there are better ones on other bases. Dogs are allowed as long as you clean up after them. The staff was nice, especially the night staff. There's a small business room with 2 computers, but you can get wireless inside your room. As with most hotels on a base, be sure to make reservations well in advance as space is limited. read more

Housekeeping was VERY RUDE. Did not clean room as it should have been. Kept putting dirty sheets and pillows back on the beds! Keeps leaving trash. didnt even bother changing sheets on beds at times, didn't make beds after we asked them to. Toilet was not cleaned either, there was still per on it after my child had went to the bathroom and they didn't clean it off. Had to ask multiple times for them to come in and clean and told us that they were doing everything that they can. Told us that they were not able to move the trash that was on their tray from breakfast so they left it on the bed and didn't bother taking the tray even though at times they took it. Counters that had an empty spot was not wiped down. Told us that we had to keep coming to them to ask for service. They wouldn't even come clean our room after we would tell them that we needed it and that we were leaving for a few hours so that they can clean the room. Very bad experience and we just pcsed here a week ago. Not happy at all about it. The manager Marie had been rude to us from the start and still continued to be rude. Definitely would not recommend Landmark INN. Room had been properly cleaned maybe 3 times. read more

I was TDY here for three nights and enjoyed the nice big room and huge bathroom. Everything was great in my room and Savannah at the front desk is awesome. She is very helpful and knows her job very well. My only complaint is the walls are thing and heard my noisy neighbors from mind night to 1:30 am one night. They left the next day. I'm one of those persons that rarely writes a review, but based on my experience at the Landmark Inn, I in good consciousness, could not not write a review. Starting with check in it was obvious that things weren't right. I had reserved a room with two queen beds. At check in I was informed that I would be receiving a handicap room with one queen bed; they even said someone had called and changed my room. I informed them that it wasn't me, and that I had my printout of my reservation that clearly showed my proper reservation. The person at the desk was insistent that I had changed it. I asked to speak to the manager, of which I was informed that she was the front desk manager, so I asked to speak to her boss. She ignored my request and continued to explain the hotel was full and that I'd have to take the handicap room. Now ordinarily I wouldn't complain about a handicap room, but I was staying for 52 days TDY to the Landmark Inn and I didn't see having to mop the bathroom floor for the next 52 days because the shower has no barrier in order to allow a wheel chair to get beneath the shower head--thus, allowing water to spread across the entire bathroom floor every time you shower. So I asked again for what I had reserved. She continued to work on the computer without acknowledging my presence or my repeated request to speak with the overall hotel manager. After about five minutes of standing there in awkwardness she finally hands me a new door key. I asked what had just happened and she said she was giving me a new room that wasn't handicap and had two queen beds. I said thanks, and asked once again to speak to the manager; which she finally did. The manager apologized but it was a bad beginning to a hotel that only would prove to get worse. As to the hotel; the rooms are very old and run down. The daily cleaning service does not really clean the room like a regular hotel service. Yes, the beds are made, but the room floor, sink, tub, and bathroom counter consistently wasn't cleaned (sometimes for days--I really don't think my shower was ever cleaned in the 52 days). My room went seven days without getting vacuumed, despite it needing it. The walls are paper thin; you can hear a person speaking on their phone in the next room through the wall as if you were in the same room. Also, ask for a room on the third floor (top floor), because the ceilings are thin too. You can hear every step the person above your room makes. The facilities are rundown and in need of better up keep; door knobs not secured properly (even on emergency doors they door knobs hang loose--clearly a hazard), carpets are not secured to the floor properly in the hallways. The complimentary breakfast is laughable; I would not recommend drinking the coffee--it's awful. Be advised they let patrons smoke just outside the doorways (not the 50 feet away from the door like federal law requires); which smoke drifts back into the lobby and eating areas. It also seeps through the windows where people sit outside, just opposite of where people sit inside to eat. That brings me to the fact this hotel has only three tables with two chairs at each table for the entire hotel to use for eating breakfast--pretty sure that isn't enough. You can sit outside at the four other tables, but you'll be eating while others smoke around you. Also, if you're a family thinking you'd just take the food back to your room to eat, just know that you only have a desk and one chair in your room to use to eat on. Although there is room for a table with two chairs that you could use to eat at--the room doesn't have it. You'll have to sit on your bed to eat and let one person use the desk. I will say the Direct TV in the room is nice to have compared with other hotels TV services. But, Ft. Irwin command should be ashamed of how poor the military lodging at the Landmark Inn accommodates Soldiers and their family. Ft. Irwin is already a difficult pill for service members and their families to swallow as a new assignment, but this facility takes a difficult transition time and makes it much harder to accept. We've been here 4 days and counting. We're still awaiting our home on post so a stay at the Landmark Inn will have to do for the next 2 weeks. They do not allow for pets unless the kennel on post is full, or as per our situation , our dog has never been boarded in a kennel before, therefore, we had to wait the weekend to get kennel cough vaccine before boarding. Which meant our dog would stay with us under those conditions through the weekend til the vet clinic opened the following Monday. This hotel is obviously more convenient than others that are 40 miles away. However, having been here 4 days so far, I requested our room to be cleaned once. Their idea of cleaning ( I'm not asking for white glove service) is vacuuming one of two rooms in our suite, leaving us with no towels after removing our soiled ones, not leaving enough toilet paper for the large family we have. utensils, cups, paper products are provided upon request, if you choose to hassle the front desk every minute for these things. The Wi-Fi is choppy. We actually brought our own Linksky's modem and requested a hardline wire from the front desk., which after setting it up from the wall line to our modem, made the internet run super fast and we were able to connect to our own signal. All in all, it wasn't the worst experience ever. However, I have had better elsewhere. My suggestion if you don't have to report in soon after you arrive, make accommodations elsewhere. read more
