What a phenomenal old theater in wonderful condition. The architecture is opulent and stunningly decorative and beautifully done. You don't even really need to see a show to want to just come see the building itself. I did of course come to see Get the Led out a Led Zeppelin cover band that did a great job at playing as close as possible to the original. I love that this venue is available close to home. Syracuse has lots to offer. This theater is palace waiting to be discovered. read more

The stairs in the balcony section are steep but I found the seats, themselves, to be quite comfortable. The sound and view from my seats were also always excellent. Gorgeous theatre in downtown Syracuse. Parking is available on street or at several parking garages surrounding the area, be prepared to pay extra for event pricing if you go with a garage. The venue made check in quick and easy which was appreciated. The theatre did feel crowded at times but we were able to navigate to our seats with no issue. Bathrooms located on upper and lower level were clean. Food and drinks were available including beer and wine. Food options were limited to candy and snack items. The sound carried well for our concert and the seats were okay. Not the most comfortable but I understand it is an older theatre. I only wish we had more room for dancing during the show, as it was a tight squeeze. The theatre has many striking features that give it a grand feeling. You can look around and see history in the design. Overall, a good experience seeing David Byrne in concert here. read more

A really stunning theater that dates back to 1928 under previous ownership. Restored and renovated in later 1970's by SALT. The architecture is absolutely exquisite. You could spend hours marveling over the details. I was a guest of a friend that has season tickets for Broadway shows. Great seats on the center first upper floor. Easy to enter and exit. Wine and beverages available to purchase. I have attended other events at the theater including Halloween Parties. It is rumored the theater has been haunted since 1930's when a women fell from a balcony, Clarissa. And is now said to still roam the theater in a white gown. They offer guided tours and group investigations. read more

So I went to the landmark again last week for another concert. This time I sat in the Loge left side, all the way at the front, And for the most part it was a great view. However when the main act came on (In This Moment), there was a light that was at the back of the stage that was directed straight at me and literally blinded me the entire set of the band I came to see, to the point that I literally had to watch it through my phone because I had to look down. I could not see the main singer, I could not see what was going on, it was so bright that the only time I enjoyed it was watching my videos afterwards. I am super super upset about that. I love that band, I've seen them I think eight times at this point, I went to the show last year at the landmark and sat middle center Loge with no issue. However I paid extra for these seats to be good seats and it was not. It was not. I was actually pulled up on stage for a costume contest that they were holding during this tour, and my boyfriend couldn't even see me. In the recording, the light is so bright that I am obscured. It is very frustrating. read more

Always a lovely time when catching a show at the Landmark Theatre. The venue is beautiful and the seating presents great viewing regardless of your seat location. Depending on the show the acoustics can sometimes be so-so but for the most part it's ok. With its downtown location it's a short walk from a number of restaurants and bars in armory square. Arrive early to get a good parking spot. There is street parking as well as parking lots that are close by. Drinks can be purchased in the lobby but note there are no tables so you will be standing unless you go to your seat early. The lobby area is a bit small so it can get a bit crowded during intermission and leading up to the show. read more

I really enjoy going to see shows at the Landmark. I started when my wife introduced it to me for the first a few years ago. It's classy, it's classic, and entering into the theater transports you, which is a feeling I love when going to see a show. It's well kept and over the years improvements have been made, most notably the seating has improved and that was a very needed and welcomed change. My primary attendance to the Landmark is Broadway in Syracuse and my wife and I are season ticket holders, and I feel so grateful that in city so close to me we get to see top level talent performing my favorite shows and introducing me to some I've never seen. They have all kinds of shows though year round for a variety of ages. I will say the Theater can certainly feel expensive (so are the drinks and snacks) but I'm so thankful I can see top level talent locally without having to break the bank on actually going to Broadway. They have basic security which I appreciate for safety, staff and ushers are kind and helpful. You're in the city of Syracuse so there is a lot of street parking, there are lots nearby for typically a small price. You may find yourself walking a few blocks if you get there just on time. I recommended getting into the city early, enjoy a meal, check out the local shops and nab that early parking spot. Or I see others getting dropped off by Uber/Taxis all the time to just avoid that hassle altogether. Either way I hope you find a chance to go and as always Enjoy!! read more

Gorgeous antique bohemian theater right in the middle of the city. Just looking around the lobby would keep me happy for hours. The ambience definitely makes any show you see here even better. Love the addition of the new bathrooms, cuts way down on wait time. Concessions could have a few more options but that's minor. There are certainly repairs that could stand to be done if you look closely, but preserving something like this takes a lot of time and a lot of money and they're working on it. I highly recommend seeing a show here if you haven't before, it's definitely a whole experience! read more

The Landmark Theatre is a fantastic location to see a show or live event. The location of the theatre is wonderful, and the inside of the building is a sight to behold. Preserving the architecture and art of the location is clearly a priority. You can also find parking in plenty of nearby locations. Because of the style of theatre, you want to make sure the seat you're picking works for you. They can be smaller in style, and if you're someone who's shorter then having something on the aisle is the best option. I've never had an issue finding my seat, but theatre staff are also readily available to provide directional assistance to anyone having an issue. Generally speaking, I've always found the staff here to be wonderfully pleasant and welcoming. read more

My wife and I attended the matinee of Charlie & The Chocolate Factory, and it was both a welcome return to live theatre and the Landmark itself. We'd been looking forward to the upgraded seats, which definitely were more comfortable, cushion-wise. However, I still had my knees jammed against the seat in front of me (I'm 6'"4). Ah, well. Anyway, the theatre looks gorgeous, the house was packed, and the show was fun. We look forward to seeing the rest of the Broadway shows with our season tickets. read more

Saw / heard Jon Batiste tonight,a Thursday at at 8pm at this iconic Landmark Theatre in Syracuse NY. A little talk , a little song "Butterfly " and a lot of piano jams playing scales and repetitive notes. A one and a half hour show , with no intermission. News man outside had a video set up for channel 2 and 5 coverage. Jon has a following to a nearly full house in this ornate eclectic high ceiling building with a nostalgic closed circle ticket booth outside and a box office tip here: Will Call is outside in the next building. Staff was friendly including ticket agents. Seating comfortable with good views. Why 3 stars? The piano clearly was out of tune and off pitch. Mr. Batiste stared with a version of "Over the Rainbow " from the Wizard of Oz. (1939) He played it in high notes only, as I winced when his finger hit those clearly out of tune notes. He has been written up as a musical genius and he noted music channeled thru to him. So I was surprised that he didn't immediately stop to adjust the tuning or adjust to cords and play in other keys.But then, I'm not the musician. His fans however didn't seem to mind and he was happy with the audience response. read more

The Landmark was clearly a magnificent place back in its heyday. It's a well maintained facility despite being an old building. It's very ornate and must have been the "it" venue in years past in Syracuse. We went for a comedy show and had fun. The staff was friendly and helpful. Everyone that worked there was seeing to being sure everyone had a good time. The age of the building and fact that it's not likely ever to recapture it's former glory is the reason I would rate it as a 4 and not a 5. The Landmark Theatre and its role in the history of Central New York, architectural design and our nation's culture has been well documented in a wide variety of industries. From being listed on the United States Park Service National Register of Historical Places to being reviewed by Cinema Treasure, the Syracuse treasure is noted for its historical and cultural significance. Started in 1927 as Loew's Theatre by Marcus Loew, the theatre would go through several sales, closings, reopenings and renamings over the next 5 decades before it finally became the Landmark Theatre. I've been to the Landmark several times for various different things, from a beard show fundraiser, to seeing the Impractical Jokers perform, to seeing the Broadway Lion King Play. What more can be said about the inside of the theatre? The place is beautiful, absolutely amazing architecture inside. Not only on the first floor where the stage is, but the upper floor as well. Sound quality has always been great. There isn't a bad seat in the theatre. My only gripes are size of seats (especially in the balcony) and how absolutely stifling it can become at a sold out show, but those are challenges all old theatres present. Overall, it's a great place to catch a show and take in the amazing architecture. read more

One of my favorite places to see show be it a concert or a show. I have been to the landmark about a dozen times and have never encountered any negative experiences. From the outside it is an unassuming multistory building. But once you step in through the double doors, you're transported back to a time where attention to detail, art and wood work was valued/appreciated. The inside of the theatre is amazing. It is hard to believe that something so opulent is in such a drab building. Checking is seamless. Yes sometime there can be a wait for drinks/bathrooms before the show and during intermission but what place doesn't have waits? I do think people forget there are bathrooms on all floors. The basement is the largest one. As far as seating, it can get pretty cramped if you're not on the aisle. The theatre was built in the early 1900s and is deemed a historic building with no renovations to the seating area in terms of size of seats. I've never had a problem with sound in the theatre. I do think it can get a little hot if it is to full capacity. Otherwise I think the space is gorgeous with its opulent wooden works, murals, and lights. It's a shame that some of the fixtures were sold off when the theater was in hardship. read more

I've seen a couple concerts here, as well as two comedy shows. I have never been disappointed by any of my experiences at the Landmark. For the concerts, sound was great and since it's such a small theatre, you feel very connected to the musicians. The same goes for a comedy show, I had the pleasure of seeing both Jerry Seinfeld and George Carlin here and the view was fine for both - as were the acoustics. I only have a couple complaints, and they are very minor. One - if you see a show here, plan on standing in line if you get there a little early - and if you are seeing a show during the winter months, you'll be cold. The other complaint is the concession area, which seems to get bunched up pretty easily, and I don't believe you can bring food/drinks back to your seat. Both of my complaints are due to the size of the Landmark, so this is expected. The trade off is worth it when you can see performances in such an intimate place. read more

A stunning and gorgeous Theater in downtown Syracuse. The interior is beyond description in words. Well, perhaps someone like Kurt Vonnegut could do it justice. Let's just say you will be awe-struck when you step in. It reminded me of the Mariinsky Theater all the way in St. Petersburg, Russia. If you've been there, you know how beautiful it is. Despite the Theater having a large capacity, all balcony and aisle seats will give you a decent view of the stage. Perhaps you could benefit from some binoculars if you're all the way back, but I think you'll be okay either way. I'm not sure how much all the alcoholic drinks are, but I do know that a ginger ale was $3, which is pricey but not as crazy as $5+ as the prices for non-alcoholic drinks reach during some sporting events. If you're looking to get some coffee or a sandwich nearby, Cafe Kubal is a good option. Check-in was flawless. We were quickly scanned in and had no problem finding our seats. If you have a chance to see a show here, do it! read more

The Landmark Theatre is a beautiful, historic icon of Syracuse. Unfortunately, it is one of the most uncomfortable places to see a movie or show. Born in the roaring 20s, the opulent interiors are spectacular. Ornate gold leaf moldings frame huge murals. Tapestries, filigrial chandeliers, and exotic furnishings adorn the expansive lobby and grand staircase. When you step inside the theater, the impressive interiors continue. They recently renovated the classic space, and it looks great. However, its rich history is also the theater's key challenge. Old, small seats, set in tight rows, make sitting in the theater uncomfortable. In the steeply sloped balcony, the rows are even more narrow. For all the shows I've experienced, I've been very uncomfortable (and I am a man of painfully average height). Also, the large theater has a wet reverb, so it's not the best for viewing movies (it's a little difficult to hear). The quality of the programming depends on your taste. I've seen some incredible off-broadway shows there. Sometimes they have "standing" shows (like Primus), and that might be your best bet for experiencing the Landmark Theater. read more

My seat purchased on Ticketmaster was double-booked by a season ticket holder. Actually, it wasn't. The other person admitted to lying, since their friend had switched seats with someone else. The event organizer still forced me out of my seat (I had traveled 3.5 hours and had booked a hotel and planned a mini vacation around this performance). She told me I was getting an "upgrade" (in a patronizing tone) and then brought me to the front of the theater and offered me a chair at the very front on the side of the theater. A chair. Not a theater seat. Only after I argued with her that I had paid for a center orchestra seat did she look on her app and find me an actual theater seat. Humiliated, frazzled and stressed, I took that seat (what else could I have done?), though it was tough to enjoy the show after that experience. No compensation was offered since they claim I had been given a "comparable seat". Actually, it wasn't nearly as good as the one I had paid and traveled for, which was in the exact center of the theater with a perfect view of the entire stage. This new seat was closer, but to the side. If you're looking to get a ticket to see a performance in a beautiful theater, this is certainly a gorgeous theater. Just don't depend on your ticket actually being honored when you get there. read more

Sometimes I get so frustrated with this venue for silly reasons. The ushers are kindly old ladies who don't really know where your seat is. There's a lot of pointing and "in that area" is about as good as it gets. The bathrooms are insanely dirty, although recently refurbished. Also, that basement bathroom is straight out of Blair Witch. No thanks. I've seen lots of shows here and it surprises me how Syracuse is able to keep their shit together and really enjoy artistry as a community. I've seen shows other places in town where this doesn't happen and the crowd alternately talks over the musicians or stages an impromptu fight club. Must be the higher ticket prices... I digress. There is so much potential here. Serious, serious potential. I hope someday to see it fulfilled. It is a nice venue in Syracuse and could be really awesome under some strong leadership. read more

The Syracuse War Memorial (a hockey rink) was were all the concerts in Syracuse were held. Not exactly the best venue for music. Then the Syracuse Landmark Theatre started to book music acts and it really made a difference. All the seats were good and the building itself is a beautifully restored old Loews' Theater. I have seen the Kinks, Bob Dylan (Slow Train Coming Tour), Rossington-Collins Band, Elvis Costello (X opened for them without Billy Zoom) and several others. Every show was enjoyable. Our first time here was to see The Lion King. The architecture is gorgeous inside the theater and in the hallways! You can tell they've done a wonderful job of preserving the original art although there are some spots on the banisters and ceiling that were chipped/falling off. We had seats up in the balcony which provided a nice overview of the stage. The stage was smaller than I imagined and I feel bad for the kiddos sitting next to me who had to sit on their feet to see. When they say limited leg room they mean it. Beefy boyfriend was quite squished. It can also get a little claustrophobic since there's 0 windows and ventilation. So by 10:30PM it's 300 degrees up in the balcony. Anyway I loved the show and the experience. I'd come again and try different seating for different views. read more

This is a great place to go for a show, definitely. The look and feel of the building is awesome and I love that. My biggest complaint is that the seats are incredibly small. I'm 6' 1" tall and my knees were wedged into the seat in front of me. With a packed show I couldn't do anything but sit perfectly straight with both knees dug into the seat in front of me. The ambiance and the great plays cannot override the discomfort of the cramped uncomfortable seating

The Christmas show was excellent. However, the seating is PAINFUL. The seats are narrow and my knees rubbed on the seat in front of me. I'm 5'2". Two short people in my row were also very uncomfortable and one man disappeared after intermission because he said it hurt to sit there. For $70 a ticket after all the fees, I expect to be more comfortable while watching the performance. read more

Starts off with no local parking. A 4 block walk with a panhandler thrown in next to an abandoned building. Get to the entrance and the heat hits you. Doesn't this place have air conditioning? I can answer that it DOES but they didn't turn it on! So you walk around sweating! The drinks I got were WARM and someone comes running in to the mens room saying they are gonna close the doors if we don't hurry. The bathrooms are disgusting dirty and someone does not know how to polish the chrome. Or replace the toilet seats! We get to the seats in the now 80 degree place. There is no breeze or air movement so someone forgot to turn on the exhaust for the show which had flames, pyrotechnics and more flames. By the end of the show you could taste the smoke and your clothes were smelling. Not the best night out and you will be hard pressed to get me to go to anything there again until they get their act together. There were Syr Fire marshalls there, but they turned a blind eye to the lack of exhaust, the smoke, and the heat. read more
