The food was amazing! I got a vegetable combo and the golden tibs. This was my first time trying Ethiopian food and this restaurant did not disappoint. The food was extremely flavorful. The service was phenomenal. The waitress was very friendly and attentive. The ambiance of the restaurant made it very authentic. The lighting was dim but the decor and style made it feel genuine. There's an Ethiopian restaurant next door with white table cloths and seems a lot fancier than Langano. I've never been to the other restaurant but by the looks, I would choose Langano any day because of the real authentic feel.

Langano was the first Ethiopian restaurant I went to in Silver Spring as I joined a few friends several years ago (back when I lived in DC interning for a summer), using a restaurant.com coupon. I remember the food being excellent and the service slow but it was on a busy Sunday evening. One of our best friends who is now sadly gone took me and my fiancé back here a few times in recent years and the food was still great (perhaps better than before) and service has definitely improved. After trying most of the places, this became his favorite and one of ours. My father came in late this past Thursday night and my fiancé and I came back with him as it is now open past midnight again, and among only a couple places that are. It was quite busy (being the the night before Juneteenth), yet our server was very prompt and attentive. We were very impressed with what ordered Yebeg Lega Tibs (one of my late friends favorite), Yebeg Girogiro (my personal favorite), and Fish Dulet. All the food was excellent as always. They even took a restaurant.com coupon when the platform rarely has been used since the pandemic started which was great. I think both Langano and Debab are now our top two favorites, followed by Beteseb. We'll definitely be back and are grateful for Langano and the many other excellent Ethiopian restaurants in our neighborhood.

Langano is one of a few Ethiopian restaurants on the Georgia ave. strip that has a variety of choices. Have been here a couple of times for takeout. For dining, you have a mix of low & high top tables as well a bar area with a TV. We ordered the veggie combo & Special Kitfo (usually order the regular). The two types of seasoned Ayeb (cottage cheese) take it to the next level! Also served with Kocho (fermented bread). Their Kitfo is also excellent-right amount of seasonings/spices although a little heavy on that decadent butter. Veggie combo was a nice complement with a good variety of items from Shiro, Messir, greens & beets to name a few. The ladies at the bar were friendly & offered coffee/tea while I waited for my order. One of the best for Eti food in the area!

We stopped in for lunch today and had a great meal! The restaurant was almost empty, so plenty of booths available. The restaurant itself is nice- coffered ceilings, huge stocked bar... it's clearly a nightclub at night... but a nice one. The food was really good. We got beef tibs, and it was so crispy and flavorful. We also got the veggie platter with six different vegetable dishes. My favorites were the lentils, and the potatoes and green beans... but honestly they were all great. These two dishes easily fed me and my husband, and while we didn't finish everything, we were totally full and very happy with our meal. The kitchen was fast and our server was friendly and efficient. We will definitely come back!

I don't recommend ordering this via Uber eats. I was hoping the sides/mini dishes would be in a different container than the injera. It wasn't at all presentable. The food still tasted great but the experience is so much better in person. I had ordered the meat and vegetable platter.

This place is my jam! I literally crave it every other day. I'm a pescatarian so I didn't think I would enjoy Ethiopian food like others who get the beef tips but man was I wrong. I've been to the other Ethiopian spot on this strip but this was the winner for me. Their Gulash fish with rice paired with the veggie combo is undefeated. The servers are nice all and Ethiopian. They do take some time to make the food but it's okay to me cause the ingredients are fresh and the food is delicious. If your getting take out call ahead of time. You'll be waiting 30 minutes even if the place is empty. I see people drinking here all the time seems like a spot for regulars. I haven't had a drink her but seems good to the regulars. I 100% recommend this place.

My friend and I came here on a Saturday night and were immediately greeted at the door. The host sat us at a table and took our order. We ordered vegetarian sambusas, a vegetarian platter and the fried fish to share. Everything was flavored to perfection. The food was super good and super fresh! Also everyone seemed to work as a team. Various waiters would come to our table to check on us and see if we needed anything. I really appreciate the good service we received here and I plan to return.

I had the best night ever at this spot! All my years growing up in the DMV area I did not know that this was here. After a fun night at the "Hey Frase" live podcast show at the Fillmore the crew that I was with wanted to continue the night of fun so the gentleman that we were with led us to this spot. First of all the live band was so good. They played a little bit of everything; not just Ethiopian music. Oldies, newbies, EVERYTHING! There was a good crowd of people dancing and vibing to the music. I cannot remember what we ordered but it had a little bit of everything on it. I have a picture to post. The bar is fully stocked so they had our cocktails flowing. The food was so good. I mean the meat was out of this world! I have had Ethiopian food before but this was so homemade that my tastebuds were in heaven!!!!!

Favorite Ethiopian place so far in Silver Spring, and there are dozens so that is saying something. I've been to Langano several times, first with a friend from Ethiopia as my initial introduction to Ethiopian food, and another time after the Women's March. Both of those meals were made 100% better by the excellent company and camaraderie, so my review might be inflated for nostalgia, but nostalgia is great and so is the food and service here, so 5 stars it is. Also Silver Spring desperately needs more places that are open late (does no one else crave food after midnight in this city haha??), so that is another perk of this joint. Huge portions, great service, and tasty food!! The vegetarian sampler is my go to of course, and I love the variety of the platter options. The missir wot (lentils), shiro (powdered peas- soooo good) and kik alecha (yellow peas) are my favorites. The website has photos of the food and descriptions which are very helpful if you aren't familiar with the names of the dishes you like but know what they look like. Service deserves a special shout out, specifically for our visit after the women's march. We were a party of 7, and had been on our feet all day (15+ miles because we couldn't get on a metro until Noma) so we were very tired, hungry, and thirsty. The servers at Langano's kept the glasses of water coming from the moment we sat down until we left. In order to be able to sit, they rearranged several tables for us as well. Even though the place was packed, the food came out in a reasonable amount of time, and service continued to be excellent. Thanks Langano's for being my first for the wondrous thing that is Ethiopian food as well my great finale on a day for the history books.

Pros: Amazing food Cons: Customer Service My Best friend invited me to this place to experiment on my sensitivity to spicy food. I like to mention that I am not a great fan of spicy hot food, but if it's fun once a year or so. Ethiopian cuisine for me is vastly different from my native Central Asian and allows for an exploration of differences between cultures. We ordered veggie combo (which I absolutely loved, especially cabbage and lentils) and Yebeg Girgiro which is a lamb dish served in a clay pot that has a fire under to keep the food warm. The lamb was very spicy for me but I loved the tenderness of the meat. Overall the food was extremely good, although I needed a gallon of cold water to stop the fire in my mouth. The worst thing that happened that day was the fact that we left a gift bag inside under the table and accidentally forgot it on the way out. When going home I realized and called the restaurant right away. What happened was they mentioned to me that they don't have it and after checking they stated that nothing was there. When my friend called (who is Ethiopian) they willingly checked again and "found it". I was very disappointed in this outcome. I did get my gift bag back, but I still feel the negative residue from this situation.

It was easily 4 people's worth of food, but more importantly, delicious. The veggie combo had the best shiro and collards I've had in awhile as well as delicious beets, two varieties of lentil (misir wot and another name unknown), cabbage & carrot gomen, fried potatoes, salad and yellow split peas. I am usually not as keen on yellow split peas but we thought these were better than average. The doro wot was excellent and for the first time ever, came with two drumsticks. I seriously have never gotten more than one drumstick anywhere else. It was easily twice the size of other doro wot portions. It had a decent amount of heat but probably not as much as our other favorite places. It was by no means bland though, it was excellent, just not as spicy as others (still very spicy by Marylander standards, be warned). The veggies though are mostly milder while also being well seasoned. You get a choice of injera; local injera is a blend that is not gluten free and is included in the price. You can get the 100% teff for an upcharge of 3.50. We aren't celiac so went with the local and it was still good for our tastes. We stuffed ourselves and still had probably 2/3 of the food left so will be enjoying it for a couple more days. The meal came in under $50 and seemed a bargain comparatively when balancing quality and quantity. We will definitely return! Oh, I should add: Service is very friendly, but this is not a super fast place so plan accordingly. It is very clean and attractive, bathrooms clean too. They have a couple small metal tables out front if you want to enjoy the weather, but it might be a little loud as it's right on the street.

This made it perfect for getting an Ethiopian fix of legit Ethiopian food in the area while being in town but also still stick with my plan to only try new dishes I have never had during visits in cities with lots of international options. I tried a "lifer" dish special they had until Christmas: Hilbet. My Realization on the connection to the word Hilbeh from Yemeni/ Yemenite food somehow didn't hit me fully until later on even though I immediately thought of Yemeni/ Yemenite Hilbeh when I tasted the fenugreek in the Hilbet! I am familiar with Hilbeh form Israel where it was brought to by Jews who came to Israel from Yemen like my aunt and of course Hilbet is related! The Ethiopian and Eritrean hilbet, just like the yemenite one is a naturally vegan dish. Unlike the yemenite Hilbeh that is only made with ground fenugreek seeds, the Ethiopian and Eritrean Hilbet has fava beans, fenugreek, and lentils, all ground into a powder, cooked, and whipped to a cream like texture. It was definitely whipped and maybe a little sticky. It would take a little getting used to for me but definitely super interesting and super fun to try. It came with shiro next to it that I was very happy with (one of my favorite Ethiopian stews!). The hilbet was topped with a salty (a tad too salty for me maybe) tomato based sauce. There were pieces of fresh jalapeno on the hilbet which I really liked with it. I really liked the presentation of the dish. The injera was good which is the most important part for me in Ethiopian and Eritrean meals and the food was well spiced-- both, and the injera in particular, have been a source of disappointment when eating Ethiopian food in the limited amount of Ethiopian restaurants in Tucson while living here. There was a woman in the restaurant roasting coffee beans and doing the coffee ceremony which added to a nice ambience. With providing some less common Ethiopian and Eritrean dishes, especially around the holidays I think this restaurant is a real gem and definitely a good one to prioritize trying some special less commonly found dishes at! This is what earned a 5 stars from me which I now tend to reserve for very few favorite outstanding places. My general rating system: 1 star: I would stay away 2 stars: Has some good things about it but I generally don't recommend. 3 stars: Pretty good. I wouldn't go out of my way to go back but a decent place 4 stars: Great place. I would go back. 5 stars: I highly recommend stopping whatever you are doing and making plans to try it out! An Evie favorite!
