While Silver Spring has several Ethiopian restaurants, I decided to try here for dinner after reading several reviews about good pick-up orders. As the restaurant was quiet with a simple outdoor sign, I a little bit wondered whether this was the right place or opening. Anyway, my order was ready on time and still warm when eating it home. We got a veggie and beef combo, and the stews and toppings were wrapped with a lot of injera. The flavors of each item were pretty solid. The yellow peas and spicy lentils had great texture and went well with injera. It was my first time trying injera, which looked like spongy crape and tasted like sour bread. Tomato salad and collard greens were simple but refreshing. The biggest surprise was the portion, which was huge and could be easily shared with two people.

Ordered a veggie combo for delivery, came with a generous portion size including an ample amount of extra njera. All items were great, my favorite was the spicy lentils but definitely not for those who can't tolerate spice. Beets, spinach and yellow lentils were more mild, and the dishes all complemented each other well in terms of flavor and taste. A tad salty for me and felt bloated afterwards, if you're OK with higher sodium content I'd take it up from 4 stars to 5...

I've ordered delivery (through doordash) twice from here now and both times the food was great. The items are always packed well. The food is so flavorful and yummy. They give plenty of injera bread too. I've gotten the yawaze tibs, which are delicious. I've also gotten the side of lentil sambusa which is also super flavorful and yummy. My boyfriend has gotten dullet and loved it. He liked it so much that the first time he ordered it he told me to make sure we remember this place so he can keep getting it. You also get a lot of food. I don't know how in person service is, but for delivery my experience has consistently been good. You also get a free can drink with meals, which isn't even stated on doordash, so that was a pleasant surprise.

Delicious traditional Ethiopian fare with generous portions! With such a modest storefront, you would look past stopping by this great local family-run small business. BUTTTT, please be advised to not do so.....because you would be missing out on some of the best Ethiopian cuisine and meals in the entire DMV! Rohobot Ethiopian Restaurant is a gem. The food here is so fresh, flavorful, well-balanced in spices and simply put....Delicious!! I've been here twice now and have not experience a bad meal yet. The owners and chef are very friendly and are eager to help cater a meal or tone down the spices to your liking. My go to here is no doubt...the Beef Tibs (#21. Yawaze Tibs). This dish is full of flavor and the portions are generous. Definitely enough to share or spare for another day as leftovers. Tender cuts of beef are cooked in clarified herb butter, then simmered-down and stewed in onions, tomato, garlic, berbere spices & jalapeño. It is served with a generous portion of injera and a side of tomato salad. No fork needed....You just break off a piece of injera and it's an all hands, stuff your face, lick your fingers experience from there. The veggie combo entree is another favorite at this restaurant for me...and a winner! The balanced, affordable platter is a blessing to those who have difficulty deciding what to order, and to others who want to sample a good fraction of an unfamiliar menu. It's made up of a mix of vegan curries, lentils, greens, chopped and stewed vegetables served on a plate of injera. The colors of fresh veggies and brightness almost make you not want to eat it because it looks like a piece of art. :) They serve many other variations of Ethiopian cuisine and veggie dishes, but it's the Tibs for me. Haven't had Tibs better anywhere else than this place around the DMV. In all great food and friendly service. Great price point and portions as well, compared to some of the neighboring Ethiopian restaurants in the same vicinity. Give this place a try, when craving some good authentic Ethiopian cooking! You will not be disappointed.

Food was great!! I got Yawaze Tibs which are listed as spicy but the spice is quite mild. While I feel like more meat should have been included in the takeout box, the food was flavorful and very delicious, would order again. The service was somewhat slow so definitely anticipate a wait whether your dining in or taking out. The environment of the restaurant was very relaxed.

I have never written a negative review of a restaurant before, but this was quite honestly the worst veggie combo I've ever had. It's 8:30, I haven't eaten all day, and I was looking forward to this meal. At this point the only silver lining I can find is being able to spare someone else this horrible experience. Literally every component was off: the injera was extremely sour and undercooked. the cabbage was undercooked, unseasoned, and swimming in oil. The beets were undercooked, unseasoned, and swimming in oil. The kik alicha (yellow lentils)? You guessed it...undercooked, unseasoned, swimming in oil. The greens were unseasoned and swimming in oil but, for a refreshing change, overcooked to an oily paste. The only non-oily component was the misir wot (red lentils), which were pretty much raw but seemed to have been seasoned with pure chili and salt, not berbere. Just so we're clear, I am not a picky eater--I can pretty much always find something to appreciate about a meal. And I love Ethiopian food. In my life, I've eaten many things that weren't to my taste out of politeness, but I couldn't eat more than a couple mouthfuls of each component of this combo because the greasiness made it challenging to want to swallow. The one component I did eat more of (the non-greasy misir wot) gave me stomach cramps...because the lentils were raw. Genuinely, what a shame. I don't want to tear down a local business, so please, go support local businesses by going to any other Ethiopian restaurant. Every other one I've frequented does an excellent veggie combo, and I truly cannot imagine any of the ones I haven't tried could be worse than this.

*Updated review* I just want to say how much I love this place! I found them initially from Yelp and I'm so happy that I did! I previously gave a 4 star rating but after having been here several times since that review, they deserve 5 stars across the board, hence this updated review! They seem to be thriving even during this pandemic. Still no dining in, but they have many loyal customers (other than me) coming for take-out orders. They are very friendly and the food is amazing! The portions are generous! I place my order in ahead of time. I usually request the lega tibs (no onions) and they always honor my request. Also, I request extra injera and I get an entire container filled with injera and they barely charge anything extra! Thank you Rohobot!

Ordered online. It was made fresh to order, came out steaming hot. The owner was so nice she offered a complimentary drink. I had ask in my order to include the spicy powder. She made sure to mention it as I picked it up. They gave plenty of injera as well, as you can see in the photo. HOWEVER, upon my second visit, read my con. Pros: -fresh -delious food -huge portions Cons: -miss or hit with customer service 3.5/5 overall rating -came back a second time. They were rude to customers waiting. Not addressing people who ordered online. A guy had to yell at him to get him to come out he kitchen. If I hadnt pre-ordered and came a little later than my selected time I would have waited behind 3-4 angry customers

[Coronavirus review] The stay at home order-which allows you to leave home if you're going out to get food-inspired me to do something I don't normally do: Ethiopian takeout. I was concerned that it was the sort of cuisine not amenable to takeout, simply because the variety of stews and soft breads would likely turn into a muddled mess. I wasn't entirely wrong about that, but it was nonetheless a good experience that got me a flavor mix I can't make at home. This place was removed from downtown Silver Spring, just on the Maryland side of Eastern Avenue, and seemed well-prepared to do takeout business. It didn't look like much on the inside, but everyone was gloved and masked and I got my takeout order having paid online without having to touch anything. The good news about getting their veggie combo to go is the mentality is clearly to pack as much into a takeout container as it will hold without breaking. A pile of rolled injera sat dry atop the selection of lentils and vegetables, a pile I wasn't quite able to finish, perhaps because I also ordered a lentil sambusa, which was tasty. The veggie combo gave a real variety of tastes: a strong ginger note in the sautéed cabbage, a heavy dose of chili powder in one lentil preparation, and the heat of fresh jalapeños in the salad. The bottom injera did get rather soggy, but overall it was what I'd hoped for, both in convenience and taste.

Extremely disappointing experience at Jollof Etcetera…read more My coworkers and I visited today at 11:30a during our lunch break. Despite the restaurant advertising that it opens at 10a, the lone employee on duty appeared completely unprepared and disorganized. She could not clearly explain the menu or pricing, and it took an excessive amount of time just to place basic food and drink orders. The situation only got worse. Drinks were handed to us still in the can, and one contained a visible piece of hair. The same employee repeatedly touched her hair while handling food, which was unsettling enough. But, the final straw was when she delivered the pepper sauce and stuck her THUMB directly into it, then still charged us for that same sauce. As for the food: the jollof rice was undercooked, the beef was dry and overcooked, and overall the meal was not worth the nearly $30 per person we paid. When we asked for to-go boxes so we wouldn't completely waste our money, we were given absurdly tiny containers that couldn't even hold half the food. What should have been a 30-60 minute lunch break turned into a 2-hour ordeal. We work in the area and make a point to support local businesses, but this experience was unsanitary, inefficient, and frustrating from start to finish. We will absolutely not be returning, and cannot recommend this place to anyone looking for a quick, clean, or professionally run lunch spot.

The ambiance appear to ask for a more upscale vibe, and there were hints of it, but it fell flat. The hostess stand looks different than the actual restaurant when you enter. It's not cohesive. Hostess stand looks rundown while the actual dining area is nice. Despite everything I listed above, the food here is not bad at all. Both locations offer taste into Nigerian cuisine that comes off as authentic but still palatable to the masses. I had the pounded yam and beef with ogbonna soup (my fav) and it didn't disappoint. I've been going to this restaurant for YEARS (Lanham) and each time I have enjoyed their food. Items I have had: okra soup, white rice and stew, Jollof rice, fish, moi-moi, puff puff...all the Nigerian popular dishes. Each one 100% SLAPS (very good). I simply deducted the rating because of decor, location (both) are in sketchy areas with interesting characters hanging outside.

This is a very humble establishment that runs on African time but serves really authentic cuisine. Go here solely for the food. Better if you can do a take out order. I had grilled lamb with spinach, jollof rice and sweet plantains. Just amazing. I also did a take out order of Ndolle (goat with some bitter leaf gravy). Loved it. There are too many issues with the restaurant. Outdated ambience, super super slow service, difficulty communicating with the staff which resulted in some extra side dishes I ended up paying for, their website doesn't work, the prices they charged were a bit more than what was on the menu (basically outdated menus) and the list simply goes on. Inspite of all these issues, I would still go there because none of those issues seemed intentional. I didn't see foul play. The manager/owner Patrick and the server/cashier Agbenfa both seemed naive and humble. They tried to make sure I enjoyed the food. I also feel I may have gotten lucky because the food that was served to me was hot. (Not cold or room temp like some of the others mentioned) I went on a Friday night. I would have to try a few more times before judging if the food is consistent. But the two entrees and the three sides I tried were all phenomenal. It also helps if you know what you are getting but I like to try new things especially when I am going to authentic places and I don't mind taking small risks. Oh the portions were huge. When it took 30 mins for the lady to come take my order, I was all set to leave the place and was prepared for a 1star experience as I started reading the reviews. But I'm glad my patience served me well. I wasn't in a rush. It was a lazy Friday evening. Lazy enough to stick around long enough to try their food.
