This was our first intro into oxtails which was brown, fall off the bone. The sauce separates into a lot of fat (this is a given with braising oxtails) so its best to eat hot and fresh! The mac and cheese was on the baked side of the spectrum with a warm heat from the jerk seasoning. Rice and peas were a great and fulfilling base, I have also seen people order a side of cabbage and definitely will try that next to balance better with the oxtails. read more

The gentleman who answered the phone was extremely kind and patient and actually told us that for the number of guests we were hosting, we only needed half a pan of rice and peas, rather than the whole pan we requested. And he was right! When most companies try to upsell customers, this was an unexpected and much appreciated surprise! The food was ready when promised and he brought it to the car for us. It came within the expected time frame (has nothing to do with the restaurant itself), but I was pleased to see that the bag was sealed, and the food was still warm when it arrived. It came with steamed cabbage & rice & peas (the two options I picked)... and... it was nothing short of delicious. Idk how long this place has been here or why I'm just now trying it but they have the best Jamaican macaroni and cheese I've tasted in Maryland. The consistency is great, it's not dry, and it's super cheesy. We also tried the oxtail which was rich and hearty. Lots of flavor. This place is on the corner of Georgia and Eastern Avenues and is hard to miss with its colorful island colors, Jamaican flag and pictures of food on the wall outside of the restaurant. I ordered the Jammin' Jerk platter (chicken, fried plantain, rice 'n' peas) and a side of steamed cabbage via Door Dash. My pickup time kept being extended on the app, so I decided to just show up to the restaurant to collect my order after thirty minutes. My order was ready and one of the employees explained that there was something wrong with their system. I wondered why they didn't call to update me, but the female employee who greeted me was pleasant, so I didn't make a fuss. The chicken tasted like baked chicken; no jerk flavor. I didn't appreciate the taste of cloves in the rice and peas. The plantains were sweet and delicious. The cabbage had a nice smell, but something on them -- not sure if it was butter or oil -- didn't sit well with me and I wasn't able to finish it. Stumbled on a great find yesterday. Reggae Vibe Qzine.....get's a thumbs up from me! It's good authentic Caribbean food. The restaurant is a standalone location that you can't miss with its bright "Jamaican Proud" exterior. It sort of reminds me of a roadside Jamaican spot that you would while visiting Jamaica and definitely stands out on a the block. This place has all the main Jamaican/Caribbean food staples.....Jerk Chicken, Oxtail, Curry Goat, Brown Stew Chicken , Callaloo.....you name it! It's all here and from the dish I had....the flavors are too. Certain foods they will prepare fresh for you like the curry shrimp or curry fish or seafood dishes. The kitchen is somewhat visible from the ordering window open at the front and you can watch them prepare the meal. Along with your main entree most meals comes with two sides: peas and rice, cabbage, baked mac and cheese, greens...to name a few and and are already prepared. Being that this was my first time here, I went in on their Jerk Chicken and Curry Goat as a test to see if it was authentic and if the flavors were there!! I am happy to report they were! A true test for finding good carribean eats around the DMV is to put a restaurant's Jerk Chicken and Oxtails (which they were out of) to the test. If either dish lacks flavor, kick, the gravy seems watered-down, or the meats are bland or tough......run for the hills, save your $$$ and don't look back!! LOL This was not the case at Reggae Vibes Qzine. The Jerk Chicken was tender, juicy and seasoned to the bone. It had a nice flavor and mild heat....nothing spicy although that's the way I prefer it. The winner of this dish tho' was the sauce! They added a Jerk Sauce that had me sopping it up between each bite and licking my fingers until it was all gone. The only thing missing was more chicken!!...I asked for dark meat and received two pieces of chicken (Thigh and Leg) on a $15 dollar platter. The Curry Goat was delicious as well. A great balance of curry spices and tender goat...all stewed together with potatoes and carrots. It was a great hearty meal and the curry provided the right heat. The sides were a winner too. The peas n' rice had great flavor and cooked true to how it is supposed to be done in coconut milk, thyme and spices. They did used large kidney beans though which I thought was a bit odd...lol... but it was still good. The cabbage was another side I tried that was cooked just the way I like it....a little on the al dente side. Not mushy or overcooked and seasoned perfect. In all, the food was really good. The customer service was great as well. The price point was average to moderate for most of their dishes. The only call out on the downside is the portions. The portions were just okay....not a lot of food for the price in my opinion. Would I go back!??...mostly certainly if I am ever in the the Silver Spring, MD area looking for good Carribean eats. Great curried goat and jerk chicken, I really liked the cabbage, rice and peas and plantains sides we had. It is carry out window only, but very quick prep as most of it is already done. There is a park nearby but we took it home. Sign said the seafood dishes take 30 minutes since they are made to order. Hubby and I both got two meals out of our orders. Prices reasonable. One great thing about the goat was it was mostly meat and only a few bones, sometimes in the past at other places I have found it to be mostly bone. Bones give it flavor though :). This had the flavor, it wasn't super saucy but since we had 30 minutes before we ate it is possible the sauce just soaked into the rice. The jerk chicken by itself is very flavorful, but in my opinion they put too much jerk sauce on it; the flavor of the sauce doesn't add to the chicken but rather take away from it. If I could order the jerk without sauce, I'd come back for that repeatedly, hands down. The sauce reminded me of uncooked walkerswood. The curry had good flavor. Plantains a lil dry. The curry chicken was cooked perfectly and had just the tiniest kick to it, but just right on the spice level. They use the chicken thighs (the best part of the chicken next to the wing). If you're a chicken breast person, then rethink your life please. Don't come here asking for a chicken breast. It ain't happenin. The rice and peas were delish and not dry at all! The cabbage was also cooked and seasoned perfectly. I also ordered a few beef patties, which was wonderful! My partner and I were fighting over the last one. So let that tell you how good it was. He ordered oxtails. I tasted his oxtails and they were also delish. I will say one thing: I typically like my oxtail gravy just a tiny tiny bit thicker and a tiny bit sweeter than theirs. I definitely wish I'd gotten some rice to go with mine, one because the curry was a bit thin and tow because it was so good! I ended up using the veggie patty to sop up the curry juice off the plate. My patty was just okay. Kind of light on filling and I've tasted better dough. I loved all the veggies in the shrimp curry. Cabbage was solid. My boss ate all her food without complaint or much talking. So there's that. Big portions of delicious jerk chicken, peas and rice on the side and the cooks were gracious enough to tuck some peas and rice under the chicken! The curry goat was also delicious. My only critique for both proteins is the white meat pieces were drier than the dark. (There's a trick to getting that white meat nice and tender!) Also, I would love for the fat on the goat to be rendered more so the texture would be more melt in your mouth! All was yummy. The one piece of chicken didn't have too much meat on it, but the other side was great. Spices were good and yummy. My only reason I held back a star was there was a few different things on their menu that weren't available. All 3 of us had been wanting to try their butter rum cake and they also mention tofu on the menu but don't carry it anymore. Would absolutely get food from there again. The price was standard for the area and a goat platter will run you around $15....The 4.5 star rating received so far is well worth it.
