Have been a few times. Very fun and always appreciate the recommendation on how to drink the tea. The sweets and savories are tasty. I understand that much of it needs to be prepped ahead of time, but my only issue is sometimes food items are a little dried out (especially anything sandwich like). My mom and I were having tea at Lanier House when a tornado warning went off. There was a large bridal party also there, that became very anxious and concerned. They tried to fit their entire group into the bathroom like it was a clown car at a circus! The staff was amazing, and remained calm, handling the situation with aplomb. They encouraged everyone to remain until the warning had passed. The tea service was excellent as always! read more

This is such a cute place! My mom took me for my birthday and they had a place card at our table for me. We donned their tea hats and had a lovely tea that was Downton Abbey themed. This place is so cute and such a great experience! First of all, the decor inside is absolutely adorable. There's several different sitting areas, each of which is somewhat unique but they all tie together beautifully. Honestly, just a million different spots to take cute pictures in. Initially, I wasn't so sure about the price tag for the tea service, but it is well worth it. We got three different teas, all unique, tasty, and delicious. Our server explained each tea and the best way to drink it. You also get a tray of snacks to eat along with it - sweet and savory. The menu also changes seasonally. It is WELL worth the price. The staff is also very friendly. I came here for my sister's birthday and enjoyed it so much I decided to throw a friend's bridal shower there later. Both events were a hit. They can accomodate parties - you can rent out the whole place, or simply make a regular reservation for a group up to 19. The teas are on a regular schedule, and you are limited to your 1.5 hour time slot. I recommend making reservations as they do fill up quickly. They are located in downtown Madison. Parking is pretty limited and fills up if you come too close to your start time (but they won't let you in before the start time). You could find parking nearby and just walk a little. I highly recommend this place for a really fun experience, and also to support a local business! read more

I loved the theme for April - Swan Lake. The three different courses and the accompanying teas were all delicious. The ladies that were attending to the guests were so attentive as well. This is such a unique little gem! I love that their menu changes monthly and that the pairings are so well thought out, and then explained as you get to reach round. It was through my experience here that I learned not every tea can have the addition of milk. I loved getting to dress up a little bit and enjoy a chunk of time just experience the ambiance, food, tea, and company. When my husband and I aren't hitting up coffee shops, we LOVE having afternoon tea at the Lanier House. We've been several times and will continue to patron this tea house. Their teas are great, and their treats are amazing! A perfect English tea experience. Note: This is not a walk-in establishment. All visits require a reservation in advance. Pros - Cute location - Cozy atmosphere. The whole tea house is decorated with plush chairs and sofas, dainty tea sets, and bowers of flowers and lights. - The service is amazing. A staff member brings you a new pot of tea for every course and explains how it is best taken (sugar, cream, etc). They also explain all the snacks that come with your tea. They post a new menu and theme every month. If you try it one month, you'll have a new experience next month, so there's plenty of reason to go back. I loved their autumn and Christmas-themed teas. - You can reserve private tea parties for large groups or reserve a regular tea for two. - All the staff and everyone who attends tea dresses so adorably in cute dresses and hats. I don't think there's a required dress code for patrons (so I don't think you "have" to), but everyone seems to love dressing up for the occasion, and it really adds to the atmosphere. I, personally, always wear a cute dress to attend. For the St. Patrick's tea, my husband and I both wore green. It's a fun opportunity to dress up a little if that's what you like. - They have a Facebook page and a newsletter, which I highly encourage you to follow so you can be updated as soon as their monthly tea menus are changed. - They have tea for children, too. They even had Santa for kids at Christmas. Cons - This place is usually booked (which shows you how good they are). So, if you want tea on short notice, you probably won't get it. Most reservations have to be made 2-4 weeks in advance. I advise to follow their newsletter or Facebook page to be notified of their new menus so you you can decide ASAP if you want to book for that month. Sometimes you have to book fast, or you won't get in before the menu for the month changes. They booked so quickly for February (Valentine's month) that they had to temporarily add extra days and hours so more people wouldn't miss out. - They're currently only open Tuesday through Saturday (except for that busy February, where they also opened on Sundays). If they want to do a 5-day week, that's fine, but I'd prefer if they did one less weekday so they could be open for both Saturday and Sunday. The tea is an afternoon experience, and most people work on weekdays, which means Saturday is the only day for a lot of people, and that day is always the first day to have all the reservations taken. Overall, they're amazing, and I highly recommend them. read more

Such an amazing experience. Everything was clean and ready when we got there. As long as you have a reservation, there is no wait, even for the food. The servers were swift with every request. As soon as we sat down, the food tower was given to us, along with the tea. The desserts and savories are to die for. Everything was beautifully crafted and extremely flavorful. Went with a friend for tea this week, and it was a bit of a let-down. The house is charming, the servers friendly and helpful, and the tea itself was good. But the food--oh my. It needs some help. A ramekin of dip with only a single cucumber slice to scoop it up, a massive meatball, a dry scone, a small pecan tart with a crust so thick it took up the entire tin. And so many sweet options--2 sweet breads and 3 desserts. It really would be easy to do better. But we did enjoy our time there. read more

We went there for Daddy/Daughter Tea. They charged up front and preemptively added the tip. That would not be so bad except we kept looking for staff and my daughter said, only if we can find someone. The food is another story. The sweet foods were okay, but not special and the savory food were as dry as the dessert. Someone needs to learn how to bake properly. Their was not enough tea to drink to make those tolerable. At least we got a photo out of this ordeal. I strongly do not recommend this place for any kind of event. read more

Seems necessary to have a reservation, they have specific times that tea starts. So everyone gets there at the same time. There is a set menu and you get 3 different types of tea. Bottom plate goes with the first tea, middle with the second and third with the top plate. They only had one caffeine free option so my little girl only got one kind of tea and it wasn't supposed to have milk added but she wanted to add milk since we were adding it to ours and it curdled so that was a little disappointing that she didn't have other options. I had requested the dairy free option but it was somehow missed, I asked about it when they brought out our food and they said they would have it out soon. Took a while and they were apologetic and took it off our bill. Menu changes monthly everything we had was good. I liked that they had cute food items for kids pbj, ham and cheese, and grilled cheese. We had a lot of fun and would definitely go back glad we have a spot like this in town! read more
