    SOUTHERN TEA!
    Samantha C.

Story time: About 7 years ago, one of my best friends got married in Alabama where she currently resides. Her wedding was just stunning as it was held in a barn with so many remarkable things to describe that I can't possibly do it justice here. But one thing I can focus on is they hired Piper and Leaf to create an Iced tea bar and it was pure genius. Years later, while visiting that same friend, when driving around Alabama, we pass a tea place and when I ask to stop there my friend says "You know that tea place, they were at my wedding. They moved locations since!" We make a pit stop to at a cute little tea shop with various different types of loose tea and kitchen essentials. They have many types of tea but I got a jar of Piper Mint Blues and a new kitchen towel. While checking out we got to chat with the counter person who was super sweet and very knowledgeable about the tea I was purchasing. You can also order a beverage to go! What a great spot. Going to make this a regular during my visit.

We made an overnight stop here through Harvest Hosts, and it was the perfect retreat after a long day of driving with our 5th wheel. It was a peaceful, welcoming spot to relax, enjoy a delicious meal, and sip on several cups of hot tea and cider. They offered a cozy menu of turkey and chicken salad sandwiches, each served with your choice of chips. While we were there, they also had a beautifully lit Christmas tree lot, adding a charming festive touch. If you're traveling by car and need a halfway point, they also offer an on-site Airbnb rental. Whether you're passing through or just in need of a restful stop, this place is definitely worth it--especially for fellow tea lovers like me!

Such a peaceful place to stop and enjoy a tea. Wrap around front porch with rocking chairs. Friendly service every time. They aim to please & are glad to redo a tea, if you don't like. Such a cute shop with an abundance of natural tea flavor options & bakery goods.

This little restaurant is kinda out in the country, but an easy drive from south Huntsville. It's somewhat easy to miss but definitely worth a visit. They primarily serve breakfast and lunch (though I think there's a dinner service once or twice a week) and it's country cooking/American classics. We came for lunch. The restaurant is obviously owned by community-minded folks; it seems they regularly provide opportunities to give back to the needy, such as free meal services on certain nights. They also have partnered with a church in Uganda, which owners and staff members visit to provide both practical and religious services. This religious commitment is evident inside the restaurant and there are interesting pictures and stories shared from their trips. Our waitress was warm and polite and happy to share her experiences with my ever-curious dad. Our food was cooked quickly and to our specifications. We all had heard good things about their burgers and wanted to try them. We all three got a 4 oz cheeseburger each. We appreciated the smaller size for a more manageable lunch but if you're hungry they also offer 6 oz patties. I added bacon to my burger. It was a simple but tasty old timey style hamburger with nicely melted cheese. My bacon was a teeny bit burnt but I still enjoyed the flavor. Our fries were crinkle cut but fried freshly and were nice and fluffy. They have several dessert options, all of which sounded good (coca cola cake!), but we weren't quite hungry enough to justify it. Maybe sometime in the future. All in all, a pleasant experience that I'm glad I had. I bet they serve a good breakfast, too!

This is a cute little coffee shop / gift shop type of place in downtown Decatur. Being that it's downtown, parking is a little bit of a hassle. I didn't have a hard time finding a spot midday on a Wednesday, but be careful backing out as you're backing right into the street. Inside, the shop is spacious and decorated nicely. It felt airy and peaceful and I could easily see myself catching up with a friend or reading or something. They have a midsize coffee menu, serve Piper and Leaf tea, and have some typical coffeeshop snacks (pastries, etc). One nice feature is a fridge with take and bake type meals and appetizers. That can prove really useful in a pinch! Service was extra nice here: welcoming smiles, patient with questions, and working efficiently. I appreciated that you can actually order a small iced coffee here. Many places only do iced in medium or large portion sizes. The small was just enough to perk me up for the ride home, but not so much I'd have to stop for a restroom, lol. I ordered an iced peppermint mocha as that's pretty much my favorite coffee drink of all time. This one was a good one! Not too strong on the peppermint and a discernible - maybe even stronger than average - chocolatey taste. Like a liquid thin mint! :) I enjoyed my drink on my drive home and look forward to returning for more next time I find myself in the area.

The interior is decorated really nicely, kind of cool and funky vibes with a surprising amount of space available to hang out. Cute merchandise for sale too. I had a little bit of trouble finding the menu but eventually found it on a paper card placed somewhat inconspicuously near the register. I was only interested in coffee but they have a decent selection of cafe-type food and other beverages. They have seasonal specials and more standard, always-available house specials. I selected one of these and got a small iced Turtle latte, which had chocolate, caramel, and praline flavors. I thought service was a little standoffish and put-upon seeming, but I wouldn't say they were rude; just not super welcoming. My drink was made and served quickly and I got back on the road. The drink was good! Nice balance of ice to liquid and a yummy, sweet, rich turtle flavor. There was a slight artificially nutty aftertaste that I'd guess was the praline that I didn't love, but overall this was a solid drink that I'd probably order again. Give them a try if you're in the area.

The staff still seemed irritable and not friendly, which again made us feel more like an inconvenience than customers. We had to ask multiple times about our drinks and food, which was frustrating. Again, the HIGH prices... On the bright side, there's a nice bookish vibe that gives it that cozy feel. With the exposed bricks/ductwork, mismatched secondhand furniture, and a small selection of books, it does seem like a good spot to relax and chat with friends... Still, I'll be looking for a different coffee place next time! Somewhere the employees attitudes match the chill atmosphere.

The interior is still clean and feels thoughtfully designed, so despite its small/moderate size everyone can find a spot that feels "right" for their needs. I've come to socialize with friends and also to read/write and regardless of the presence of other guests, I always feel the right amount of privacy and quiet. There are a few new touches that make it feel even cozier and homier, such as their choice of background noise/music (often, you can hear Bob Ross painting softly on one of the tvs) and art. There are also a few activities for kids to do, like coloring sheets. The owners themselves can often be found working behind the counter and have always treated me with warmth and courtesy. They're a younger couple who are obviously working hard to figure out ways to improve the business. I've enjoyed using my punch card. :) Their coffee is delicious and they are regularly dreaming up new flavor combinations for the season. My favorites in the past few months have been their banana pudding matcha and, currently, their latte made with fresh figs. It's so incredibly well-balanced and delicious! The syrups are made in house and it shows. They also offer a variety of freshly baked pastries; I finally tried one (a pumpkin spice scone) and it was also delightful! Perfect texture and the extra sweetness from the glaze gave it a great punch of flavor. I encourage all Cove and OXR residents to try this business if they haven't already, or try again if you went prior to the re-opening. It's honestly worth a drive from elsewhere in the city if you're a coffee connoisseur. I'm so happy to have this place and look forward to many more visits. :)

My husband got a half chicken salad salad and a glorified grilled cheese. We also got a pretzel salad to try. Portion sizes were great, the food was delicious and inventive. I loved the ginger citrus dressing that was for the salad, I even asked them where it was from. We were told they make it in house. The pork in the grilled cheese tasted so fresh & flavorful. The girl who took our order was incredibly friendly, and the service was quick from the moment we walked in. I ordered Dad's Egg Sandwich, and Mom got the Vegetable Frittata. The bacon on my sandwich was the standout--nice, thick, and perfectly cooked. My only complaint is that the menu mentioned garlic, but I honestly couldn't taste any. If you're going to promise garlic, I want to taste garlic! Mom really enjoyed her frittata, although I think she's getting a little tired of egg dishes lately. She especially loved the toast and whatever butter they served with it. It almost tasted like maple butter, and it was delicious. The fresh fruit was also excellent (I happily finished Mom's!). My only real complaint is the size of the restaurant. It's a cozy space, but I can see it getting crowded very quickly during the breakfast rush. Overall, everything was wonderful. Friendly staff, fast service, and a delicious breakfast. We'll definitely be back!
